This is the book we all need right now, my friends: no angst, all the romance, sweetness for miles, little lions named Leo, heated kisses, slow burn (Merrick liked Leo so much, he wanted to wait, even though Leo was begging to be "dicked"), humor (Clyde and Shirley's banter was hilarious!), awesome secondary characters, and the best HEA ever.
I LOVED Leo and Merrick, but I loved Uncle Donny and Clyde just as much.
If you like relationship-focused books and are in the mood for a super cute, sexy story, do not pass go, do not collect $200, just read this book right now (and maybe rewatch Ghost because, YES, pottery is sensual AF).
The only reason I'm not rounding up is because this is a short book, and I wanted more.

Throwing Hearts is a stand alone, sweet, sexy, angst free story by N.R. Walker. If you want something to make you smile and for your heart to feel all squishy and warm, this is for you. I live for this stuff and enjoyed this so much.

I love when this happens, when two people’s eyes meet for the first time and that beautiful connection is there. There may have been some shyness, some nerves, but these two both felt it and knew that something special had happened.
“I felt like I was floating. Was cloud nine really a thing? Because I thought I was on it.”
I adored these two together. And who knew making pottery could be so sexy? Maybe that only happens when it’s with the right person? These two were clearly meant for one another. And I loved how they navigated the early stages of their relationship as well as how they dealt with a situation with Clyde and someone else I don’t want to tell you about.
“It was pottery porn, not gonna lie. Porn hub should have a pottery making category.”
This is a bit of a two for one romance. We get our two main characters but also a secondary love story that you’ll have to experience on your own. It made the book all the more special. This was such a fun, sweet book and I’m so glad I picked it up. I can’t seem to get enough of N.R. Walker’s amazing stories.

Unpopular opinion ahead.
Sorry, but I think this book is too long and way too boring, and it's written in such a simplistic way... I like it when I don't have to strain my brain too much with my books, but this one almost put me to sleep.
It's a sweet story, I really like the content. However, I was annoyed that the main characters focused so much on other people. As I said, I like the idea behind it, but Leo and Merrick only ever talk about Clyde and Donny, which really got on my nerves.
At some point, I reached the point where I would have much preferred to read a story about Clyde and Donny. Because these two moved me to tears. And actually, I wanted to give the book three stars just because of these two.
BUT: I understand that it's tempting to include something like that in the story, really, BUT DOES IT REALLY HAVE TO BE THE THOUSANDTH IMITATION OF THE GHOST SCENE????? God, how I hate that.
I really understand it, because that scene between Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore had a big impact on me too. My parents really should have paid more attention to what I was watching on TV. I think I was far too young when I saw it. But I think it's rather poor to find that in a book, because, hello, come up with something of your own. And I mean that with respect, because I love this author. Usually.
So, I'll try to find something great to quickly forget about this book.

Every now and then I want a book that just makes me go awwwww without any angsting, no made up tension, no aggravating plot points to make things drag out.
N.R. Walker's Throwing Hearts is just joy in book form.
It's two people falling in love with a side order of brilliantly supportive friends, unexpected romance in the senior citizens section and a lot of big feels.
I loved it. The Ghost references just made me smile

Pretty much had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading this one.
Leo and Merrick were 100% absolutely adorable together.
This was all hearts and rainbows, no angst to be found. So it won't be for everyone.
But given everything going on right now, I was okay with some fluff.
Bonus was that pottery wheel scene....totally worth the wait!
Pretty much had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading this one.

This was a really cute and fun story. Lovely setting, lovely characters, maybe a bit too sweet at times, but I didn't mind at all. It definitely put a smile on my face more than once.

This is as super fluffy and light as a perfect souffle.
And yes, I did have a smile on my face for most of the book.
Unfortunately, this is also a bit on the sweet side - for me, that is.
As much as I enjoyed the banter between Leo and Merrick, and their serious cuteness, ‘all’ that happens here is that two lovely men meet, are massively attracted to each and fall in love.
The only ‘hurdle’ to their relationship is the question when to go all the way in the bedroom. And, tbh, I have no idea why Leo is misinterpreting what Merrick's saying. Merrick is perfectly clear about it all.
If you love totally angst free romance, this is your cup of tea for sure.
To me this felt a bit like meditative yoga … all chilled and happy and relaxed, with no tension at all. Not that there’s anything wrong with that whatsoever, but it didn’t really do it for me in the long run.
I wish real life was as uncomplicated and wonderful as Leo and Merrick’s.
And I loved the side story about Clyde and Donny, but all in all I missed something here, something to make my heart beat faster, I guess.
This is cute and sweet and happy, and one to keep for a time when you need cheering up.

Okay, I think we can all agree these are some pretty shitty times we’re living through at the moment. And if you’re anything like me, you’re looking for a bit (a lot) of escapism and goodness in book-form right about now.
Look no further people, you have found that book.
This was just *sigh* so incredibly lovely and wholesome and good and full of butterflies and joy and no angst, nothing heavy at all, no other shoe will drop.
It’s just a simple story of two beautiful men meeting, going on dates, kissing a lot and falling stupidly in love. Period. Add in some pottery scenes from Ghost, an ode to the older generation of queer folks who’ve paved the way, found family and Hawaiian shirts and you will be smiling and squealing and hugging your kindle to your chest from page one, just like I did.
Maan, I needed this. 5⭐️
Look no further people, you have found that book.

Oh god! I don't even know where to start. I'm ugly crying while writing this review. If you were wondering if a book can make you ugly cry because it fills your heart with all the feelings, the answer is yes. Yes, yes, yes.
Throwing hearts is romantic, adorable and absolutely perfect. I fell in love with Leo and Merrick. And I am so happy I got to take this journey with them while they found their love for each other.
I love when Miss Walker writes light, funny, romantic and angst free books. No one does it like her.
This is going to be a favorite of mine for a very long time.

Just making ceramics.
I’m disappointed.
My rec? If PWP isn’t a concern for you and you don’t require ANY sort of conflict or climax (hehe) in your book, go for it.

That was a very easy read. I laughed so much at the beginning that my cheeks hurt. I liked both MC, but I LOVED Clyde. I adored Clyde in all of his curmudgeon glory. I’m not gonna lie, I would have loved to have had more Clyde in the story. Hell, I think I could read his story. He was one of the best side characters that I’ve read in a while. And his insults? Priceless. 😂

Sometimes I want to work for it. I’ll trudge through blood, sweat, and tears to claim that coveted happily ever after. And then I have those days that I would rather have it hand-delivered, tidy and neat with a bow on top. Life has been hard lately and I don’t always crave my escape time to be equally so. This was sweet with a bit of spice and…easy. It was just what I needed. I don’t dabble in the audiobook world a great deal but what an unexpected treat! I loved the narration as much as Walker’s smooth story and sweet guys. Between the accent and some of the steamier scenes, Lloyd brought heat to my cheeks more than once. In addition to blushing, I found myself grinning and chuckling as the guys muddled their way through their courtship. Yep, this definitely felt like courting (Clyde is absolutely correct), and I was smitten right along with them.
Both of the guys are delightful but let’s start with Leo. He’s sassy, easygoing, and has a huge heart. Anyone that takes care of the elderly by choice without expectations is a good egg in my book. Leo was paired with Clyde through a great community program a few years back and they’ve become quite close. They’re a hoot, a mischievous pair, and I couldn’t help chuckle at their antics. His other bestie and roommate, Kel, was another shining star. He’s been blessed with great friends but not great relationships. I loved his energy and drama queen tendencies. Merrick was drawn to his bright energy as well. Speaking of Merrick, what a gem. He’s exceptionally artistic and steadfast. His sole focus has been caring for his pride and joy, his studio. Running a business requires a lot of time and commitment and he hasn’t found anyone worth trying to add to the mix. Until now. Leo makes Merrick want to master his juggling skills. Patience is the key and not a natural trait of Leo’s. But some things are worth waiting for, right?
Merrick and Leo are adorable together. And their pottery play is sinfully erotic. Plan on crafting, coffee, and picnic dates. Additionally, Clyde and Merrick’s uncle hit it off. The front burner slowly simmered while the back one swiftly sparked. The only drama is wrapped up in Leo and the only angst is in sharing longstanding secrets. They twist, turn and throw more than clay. If you like Aussies and want charming and cute, let me grab a sparkly bow, and…you’re good to go.
Beware of: Grumpy old men are often full of surprises. Honest communication and sexual limits are laid on the table. And prepare for the undeniable urge to listen to Unchained Melodies.
This book is for: Anyone looking for some sweet and simple wooing, Throwing Hearts is just what you need.

Cute, fun with likeable characters

This is pure extra-sugar fluff with a side of innuendo.
Feeling fragile with world events, it was what I needed.
The characters are absolutely adorbs - it's a book that calls for cutesy words and heart eyed emojis of appreciation!
Leo reminded me a little of The Weight of It All's Henry, perhaps because I've only just finished a re-listen to that. For him and Merrick it's insta-attraction, but they take time to get to know each other, there's heat and flirting - who knew a pottery demo could be so suggestive and hot!
And then there's Clyde. Another insta-attraction, I wont discuss for risk of spoiling. Clyde is an old cantankerous grump and I loved him. I loved his romance.
The books comes with a warm feel of community and friendship. It's completely angst free. It's sweet and funny. There's a note of how times have changes and it's meaningful without taking over the feels.
One minor niggle is an agreement between Leo-Merrick that was treated as being unclear. I didn't get this, I thought they'd agreed and knew where they stood, then there was a clumsy attempt to make a point through it - this is really minor, no big impact to the story; just something that I didn't quite get.
It's a simple feel good, very much what I was in need of. Characters that come alive and cause a smile. And the ending *happy sigh*

This was so fucking cute, like I’m dying from the cuteness. Leo and Merrick were adorable and had such great chemistry. No drama no sadness, just a story of pure joy of finding and falling in love with someone. Cute and sexy moments. I have no criticism so it must be 5 ⭐️

This is a sweet feel-good romance with minimal obstacles, and two appealing main characters. Leo meets Merrick doing a community class in his pottery studio, and there's attraction at first sight. The true charm of this story is not the main couple, but the secondary characters, especially Clyde, the feisty senior citizen Leo spends time with, and Merrick's uncle. Both grew up closeted at a time when coming out was far more fraught with difficulty, and the friendship of younger and older gay men has a sweetness with a tiny hint of poignancy.
There's some fun banter, a bit of a slow burn, and a very natural progression. A comfort-read story for when you just want to spend time with good people falling in love.

I usually love books by N. R. Walker, but this one not so much. I listened to this as an audiobook. I didn’t care much for the narrator. He made Leo sound so prissy. I could have looked past that if the story hadn’t been so boring. Fortunately I borrowed it from the library so it was free.

The story was cute, sweet.. no- angst. ❤️But the narration brought this story to shine brighter. Glen Lloyd did a fabulous job doing so many voices. Highly recommended!! 👍🏻👍🏻

This was a pretty good read. Leo Secombe loves his life. Leo gets involved in a LGBTQ+ program called "Bridge The Gap" Leo befriends Clyde who is a 71 year old retired baker is lonely he brings him to a series of classes hosted by Merrick and his studio "Kill'n Time."
This was a good read I liked all of the characters in this book. When Leo shows up at Merrick's pottery business with Clyde to help him become more social they hit it off. Both Leo and Merrick are almost 30 and are good in there careers but both are lonely. This author writes some pretty good feel good kind of stories. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

What a delightful M/M romantic story in Brisbane, Australia! Dark haired Merrick, 29, owns the Kil'n Time Pottery business. This week, he has a new group coming in from the LGBTQ community, Bridge-the-Gap program. Leo, 28, a cute blonde with blue eyes, brings his buddy, Clyde, 77, from the program that helps older LGBTQ folks get back into life in a safe environment. Leo's flatmate is Kell, and she's fun. Merrick brings his uncle to the class. So, really we have two romances, as Merrick and Leo hit it off, so do Clyde and Asian Uncle Donny, who has a secret.
This is a well written, good feeling book that also teaches us about pottery.
I liked the clever bantering, witty quips, the snark and sass, plus the big hearts and true acceptance. Our guys are immediately pretty sure this is going to be a big relationship, and Merrick wants to move slower, so it doesn't fizzle. He and Leo want this thing to go the distance and be a forever love. So, they begin with exciting sexy times, but don't go all the way. When they do get there, it's mind-blowing, sizzling sex, that neither man has ever known.
A fantastic romance, with fun activities, marvelous characters and deep understanding.

This was a sweet, feel good book.
It was light, fluffy and just wholesome.
Both characters were likable and the premise was well done.
these men just worked together, and the sub plot of the two elderly men who also fall in love and embrace themselves was adorable.
I appreciated the fact that they don't jump into anl sex, although I kind of got a bit bored with them talking abut it so much.
I also would have loved an epilogue focused on them alone.
As for the audio...this is the first book I've heard by Glen Lloyd and I loved it! The accents and the different voices and tones he used for all the characters were done perfectly.
Overall, it was a cute read!

I was waiting for the angst because I hadn't really read much about the book but it never came and that was alright. It sort of reminds me of Finders Keepers in that there was just sweetness and light with a side of snark.
I feel a little bad because I thought, at the time, that Finders Keepers was a little boring and now I kind of appreciate the fluffy books more especially during difficult times and this book came at the perfect time for me.

I keep forgetting that I don't actually like N.R. Walker's writing style. Her books typically rate 1-2 stars for me, and often are a DNF. This one was no different.
And while it mainly comes down to writing style, what cause me to throw the towel in on this one was this:
Merrick bids everyone a good morning, introduces himself, thanks everyone to being there and say, "[...] but first we just need to run through some basics." He shows them the essentials. He points out the bathrooms. He runs through some mandatory "OH&S and safey-first stuff" and then has them sit at the table. He tells them they will be making pinch pots. And then after all that, he says, "Let's start with names." Like, you've probably already spent a good 20 minutes talking to them, and then you decided to "start" with names? Long after having introduced yourself? After showing them around and giving safety advise? After sitting them down, telling them what they will be making and handing out the clay? You are most definitely not "starting" with names.
True, that's me being picky, but when you are dealing with a writing style that doesn't suit your tastes, it's the little things that makes me want to move on.
