Banking with the Beard: Secrets of a Master Banker

Rate this book
World class bank player Freddy "the Beard" reveals the secrets that made him one of the most feared money players in the country. BANKING WITH THE BEARD actually teaches players how to bank accurately. The Beard's system is the only bank method that incorporates cut angle (i.e. acquired english), cue ball english and force into a simple, easy to understand, yet accurate, banking formula. The section on "AUTOMATICS" alone is worth the price of the book. Banks you now fear will become hangers after studying BANKING WITH THE BEARD. BANKING WITH THE BEARD is a must read for 9-BALL, BANK POOL and ONE-POCKET players and anyone who has ever wanted to make better banks.

This has some interest info, but is very loosely written and is more a book of diagrams and short (less believable) stories about old pool hustlers rather than an in-depth guide to the physics and geometry of banking. This works for the more basic examples, but gets muddy towards the second half. It may be a bit more useful for anyone playing one pocket or bank pool.

I'll probably still use the beginning as a reference, and maybe study an example or two to work out the reasoning. I do appreciate the attempt to reduce aiming into quarters of a ball rather than precise contact points. We'll see what impact that has in real play today.

Not what I was thinking.

Book is pretty much the author talking about great unknown players and the banks they made. It does have some excellent diagrams and ideas on surface conditions helping increase or decrease variables in banking, but this really wasn’t a great book.

Solid banking advice for everyone from beginners to more experienced players. In between the banking instructions are stories about players Freddy the Beard knew which offer a glimpse of the insights provided in his seminal work The Encyclopedia of Pool Hustlers.
