Hi, my name is Celeste Bradley and I write "brain chocolate." That is, I write fun and sexy escapism is for hardworking women everywhere. We deserve a little man-candy, too!

Reviewers like to say I write about misfit heroines getting the man of their dreams. Maybe that's true, but don't we all feel like misfits sometimes? Even if the rest of the world thinks we have all our balls in the air, aren't we juggling like mad on the inside, desperately trying not to drop one?

I love this manic, scattered life I lead. I love to write, craft, garden, bake and mother, even if I don't always do it all perfectly. I love living in the Southwest, with its big sky and vast desert views. I love venturing out of my quiet life to meet readers and other writers, and then I love to come back to my haven, full of ideas and renewed passion and creativity.

Maybe one of those times I'll meet you!

Hugs,
and thanks for reading!

Good premise, a definite page turner, up until about the halfway mark. Started floundering at the pervy house party. Stanly-Stanton come off as an uptight, nitpicking Nancy-pants rather than the tortured soul he was aiming to be. Garrett, the flamboyant ladies maid, was made of sterner stuff! The witty repartee between h/H I enjoyed so much in the beginning disappeared. It turned into angsty bologna:

"Please love me! "
"No, I'm emotionally constipated due to childhood issues. And this one girl was mean to me."
"Trust me."
"No! U R liar. Everyone is liar!"
"But I love U. Let my love open the door to your heart!"
"I be mean! Go away U lying whore."
"Buh bye."
"Never mind, U melted my frozen heart. I'm all warm and fuzzy now."

Sheesh! Is this the "worst (or best) 2 out of 4"? Books 1 and 3 of the Royal Four series were wonderful, books 2 and4 (this one) were AWFUL - and for the same reason: Each of these two stories deals with men who treat their women abominably throughout the entire book while the women do all in their power to please the man.

In "Seducing the Spy", Alicia has been framed, judged, ostracized, abandoned by her family and is barely surviving day to day when Stanton (Lord Wyndham) enlists her aid in hunting down a spy. He then treats her with such abhorrence, disgust and cruelty that it is hard to read. Once again, Ms. Bradley's writing is so well done that the reader feels, cries and hurts right along with her. As the story progresses, the cruelty she receives from society pales in comparison to the cruelty inflicted by the man she loves, climaxing in a near rape (horrible and disgusting because it's not seen as such since she doesn't fight to stop him.) I truly cannot understand any woman actually enjoying reading this kind of story. The only partially redeeming value would be that in this installment (unlike book 2) the man is at least partially aware and sorry for of his offenses in the end.

Who is Celeste Bradley and why haven’t I heard of her? And why isn’t everybody reading more by her? She is wicked funny and writes a steamy, angsty romance. Or rather, I now know that she wrote one steamy, angsty, funny romance and although I accidentally read the last in the series first, I’m anticipating a full-on, Celeste Bradley spy novel binge in my near future.

Him: He’s the dark and broody archetype who possesses a mysterious ability to sense when someone is lying. He’s serious and reserved and has been deliciously celibate for the past decade because he believes his unnatural passions are a deviation from the norm. They’re actually not, but ludicrous misunderstandings about basic facts of life are to be expected in this type of genre and in this case it worked in his favor. Meow!

Her: She’s the eldest daughter of an earl and a fallen woman who gave it up to someone she shouldn’t have. As a result of those premarital actions, she was subsequently cast out of her family and forced to support herself and her elderly nurse/governess in a unfashionable part of town. To her credit, she realized that living independent from society’s rules was liberating and that self-reliance afforded her a unique opportunity to be free to be herself. It actually made her one of the most honest characters in the book but unfortunately for Himself, who had always relied on his truth-detecting spidey sense to judge someone’s character, she was immune to his gift so he didn’t recognize her integrity until the very end. Dun, dun, dun.

Other ridiculous things I loved:
--the evil French spy.
--Alicia’s lady’s maid is a gay man. Wait, what? He was flamboyant and fabulous.
--the book is set almost entirely at an orgy party. Seriously.

The story was ridiculous in all the right ways, hot in all the right parts, and incredibly funny.

I really enjoyed this book. It reminds me why I love this author. I believe she is criminally underrated among the historical romance authors. She writes very sexy historical romance that also has substance and wit. Her characters are appealingly quirky and flawed. This book is so in that vein.

Lady Alicia is Ruined, with a capable R. It wasn't her fault, but that doesn't make it right. My heart hurt for Alicia. I tend to like my heroines virginal, but I also like a heroine who has had a bit of life experience under her belt, and she is a survivor. In other words, I don't think possessing a "V" card is enough to make a successful heroine. A heroine should be three-dimensional and she should have substance and character. That was so Alicia. I loved her. I rooted for her to get her happy ending, and I really wanted it to be with Wyndham!

Now Wyndham is more of the Darcy type hero. Cold, composed and remote. His reasons for being so make a lot of sense. You see, Wyndham always knows when someone is lying to him. Except for Alicia. It drives him crazy that he can't read Alicia. Especially since he has began falling for her shortly after they met. I liked how Alicia brought out the wilder, emotional side in Wyndham. But how he fought it. At times, I felt his behavior towards her was very unkind, and I wanted him to realize what a gem she was. At the same time, I loved how Alicia demanded respect. She didn't lay down to be abused by him. Even with her diminished circumstances, Alicia stayed true to herself and was her own person. She won her hero fair and square.

Even though it's taken me years to finish this series, I felt like the ending was perfect. This book is a great combination of light humor and wit, sexy and emotional romance, and a nice dose of suspense and intrigue. It's an excellent conclusion to the Liar's Club series and its crossover The Royal Four. I enjoyed catching up with the other characters from The Royal Four, and they made me nostalgic from my days of reading The Liar's Club.

This book is several years old, but I think it's worth tracking down.

Overall rating: 4.5/5.0 stars.

Meh... it started off interestingly enough, but it all kinda went downhill from there. I was really excited to get a better look at Stanton (the Falcon), as he's been a pretty mysterious outlying character in the last 3 books. And it LOOKED like it was going to be good at the beginning.... But then he just started acting like a jerk, and she was WAAAY too forgiving...

It was really just another case of the girl falling head-over-heels for a guy for no reason other than he turns her on. Well whoop-di-doo... Great basis for a long-lasting, meaningful relationship...

Anyway, by the end of the book, I was just like, "All right, already! Can this be over yet??" I've read the whole series now. A bit of a waste of a week... Book 1 was good enough...

I liked this one. The heroine is totally incorrigible - vengeful, intelligent, sour, vivacious, unstoppable and witty. She has absolutely no respect for the society that spurned her scornfully and succeeds in driving the hero bonkers. He is morose, dark, tortured, verging on dour and has no idea how to get a handle on a woman who has no time for society's conventions. Some parts of the plot were downright silly, and the four heroes appear scarily incompetent as a collective, but it's a fun story anyway.

Started off on a promising note. A strong heroine, almost as good as Willa. Hero's talent reminded me of " WHITE LIES " by Jayne Anne Krentz. Didn't appreciate how the hero morphed into a suspicious, arrogant, and unbearably cruel guy towards the end. shades from " WHITNEY, MY LOVE"

I'm not sure why I put off picking this one up, but this apparent conclusion to the series was very good indeed. In fact I almost completely missed a meeting when I picked up the book during a ten minute break and looked up twenty minutes later! It was during the rather action packed ending, so I suppose there were mitigating circumstances. On the whole though, I quite liked the notorious Alicia pitting herself against the overly staid and formal Stanton, and the adventure was suitably adventurous.

When Stanton Horne, Lord Wyndham, the member of the elite Royal Four as the Falcon, receives the visit of Lady Alicia Lawrence, the disowned daughter of the Earl of Sutherland, he’s extremely weary of her story about a conspiracy against the Crown. Not because she’s a woman, but because she’s a notorious woman — five years ago she was shunned by Society and labeled a notorious liar.

Stanton’s ability to spot lies and liars, so convenient in his work as the Falcon, fails him, when it comes to Alicia. She’s completely unreadable to him, but her "proof" — the mention of the scarred man — is the one thing that keeps him from completely dismissing the woman.

Since she’s convinced she could identify the man plotting to kidnap Prince George if she heard him, Stanton, very reluctantly, agrees to attend a house party (read: orgy) and bring Alicia along as his pretend mistress.

Their "mission" is fraught with danger. Not only to track and stop the deadly French spy, but Alicia and Stanton might have found their match — she a man that might actually believe her, he a woman to finally melt the ice surrounding his heart.

The prologue itself hinted to a great read as Alicia hilariously opened her first letter to Wyndham with: "I am writing to you because you appear to be a somewhat lesser idiot than other gentlemen." This one line showed Alicia’s true character and promised a riotous book.

Despite the fact her family considered her dead and Society pretended she did not exist, Alicia didn’t lose her youthful vitality. She was sassy, spunky and had a wicked sense of humor. Granted, she might have appeared bitter at times, but that was understandable attitude adjustment she went through after the hurt and betrayal.

Stanton was portrayed wonderfully as he found himself completely out of his depths with the whole situation and especially Alicia. He too had been betrayed by his own flesh and blood, but instead of enfolding himself in mockery and sarcasm, he chose to lock himself away from the world.

The characterization was absolutely sublime. Here you have two people deeply hurting for quite similar reasons, betrayal by their own family, yet they deal with those feelings in two completely different ways, yet cannot help but be drawn to each other in a last attempt at salvaging what is left of their souls and heal each other in the process.
As is obvious from the epilogue they didn’t change that much (the servants still thought of Wyndham as "inhuman", only in a better way than in the first chapter *wink*), but what little they did change was for the better.

As for the plot, the pacing was utterly to the mark. There was no single dull or breaking moment in the book. The sparring between the two leads was entertaining and cute at the same time, the interaction between characters was splendid, the humor was there, the adventure was there, the drama, the action…What more can one want from a story.

It was a lovely tribute that Ms. Bradley brought back the couples from previous books for more than just a cameo experience. This "reunion" and the just demise of the Chimera brought the entire series full circle.

This book could be read as a stand-alone, but if you want to really enjoy it fully (all the subtle nuances, the relationships between characters, their interaction…), you have to read the series in an order.
Bottom line — this entertaining and frolicking read is definitely a keeper. If you like your romance laced with humor, action, a little drama, a whole lot of sensuality and a pinch of adventure, this is definitely the book for you.

P.S. If it were possible, I'd add half a star to my rating above.

This is the (dammit) last of the Royal Four series, culminating with the Falcon's story. If Celeste Bradley has to write Regencies, I wish she'd stick with the spy story theme.

Stanton Wyndham has a unique gift—he can tell with uncanny accuracy whether someone is lying.

Lady Alicia Lawrence is a proven liar, slut, and general reprobate. So when she sends Wyndham a note warning of a plot to kidnap Prinny, Wyndham is naturally skeptical. When she follows up in person but refuses to remove the heavy veils over her face

…he's stumped. How can he know whether she's lying when he can't look into her eyes?

He wants to dismiss her, but if someone—even a documented liar—reports a plot to abduct the Prince Regent, he is obliged to follow up. And even after seeing her face (albeit a face still lumpy and puffy because she learned the hard way she has yet another food allergy) he still can't tell if she's lying. She claims she can identify the conspirators by voice, so he invites her to the house party where the crime is supposed to occur. Don't keel over from the shock, but she's to accompany him as his mistress, despite the fact that she looks like a

Alicia has the good sense to see this as a way to improve her circumstances. If Wyndham's going to present her as his "kept woman," then by God, he's going to keep her in style. The interactions between the two are hilarious and worth the price of the book all by themselves.

Not to mention Stanton's reaction when he finally sees the "real" Alicia.

Stanton has no idea what to make of her. Is she an attention-seeking liar, or a truthful witness? And what about the pesky attraction between them—can he even trust that? What to do, what to do.

I really liked this one—in fact it wanders into 5-star territory. 4.5

I have to say that book 1 was my favorite and now that I have read book 4 I love it. Wyndham's reasons for being the way he is was a total secret and as the reader you have just accepted it through the whole series. But then half way through the book you finally understand why he is the way he is and understand exactly why he is cold. I really felt my heart go out to him because of the reasons. But enter Alicia who says what she wants and "tries" not to allow what others think or feel about her matter. But like all people what other think or feel about ourselves does matter even if we put up a great front. Wyndham uses Alicia to no end because his ability to know whether or not she is lying is gone. However, due to her past he passes judgement on her. She has to work past that judgement and at every turn his judgement come back to hurt her. Just when she is finally done being the bait in this scenario the 4's lives are in danger and really she is the only one that is able to save them. Yet again her life is in danger but this time there is no one to save her and she has to save herself just as she had to 5 years ago.
I have to say I loved how this book ended. The hero saw the error of his ways and the heroine saw that she really did matter.

(Re-Read June 2010)

After a lot of hit-or-miss books lately, I decided to do a bit of re-reading, and this happened to be the first one I landed on.

I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this story :)

Stanton's "talent" for spotting liars almost borders on a paranormal aspect, though there's no hint in the book that this is the case.. I can easily sympathize though with how horrible it must've been to grow up knowing everyone was lying.

His hesitancy to enter into a relationship with a woman (he's been celibate for 10 years, the poor man!) was a bit tragic to me, especially once we learned of his reasoning.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lady Alicia's "scandalous" behaviors upon re-entry to society.. How horrible it must be to have been branded a liar because of the machinations of other unscrupulous people, but at the same time, she IS "free" because of her youthful scandal.

Prinny is hysterical as he's been throughout the entire Liar's Club/Royal Four series, and the bit about a certain young lady under the table with a lot of fruit made me smile :)

It was also nice to see all the other spouses of the Royal Four again :)

Seducing the Spy was lovely ending to a very enjoyable series, and I stand by my earlier rating of a solid 4 Stars.

Okay, the last of this series gives us a fun beginning. We're introduced to our heroine when she isn't at her best. Later, we learn she has been cast aside by her family and society. Yet, when she overhears a conspiracy that could be detrimental to the country, she goes to the one person she thinks will care. Afterall, the War of 1812 is still raging on, and she wants to do her civic duty.

However, Lord Stanton Horne, Marquis of Wyndham and The Falcon, isn't sure he trusts Lady Alicia Lawrence's word. She has a past which caused her to become a society outcast, and she doesn't make a favorable first impression. So, when her abrupt departure leaves him surprised, and the note detailing what she overheard alludes to the wanted man dubbed The Chimera, things begin to change.

What ensues is a comical a droll, somewhat facetious enterprise into the partnering of Wyndham and Alicia. Their connection causes outrage and confusion, but between the two of them a few sparks fly. What I loved the most about this story was Alicia's "I don't care" attitude. She was honest, forthright, brisk, and unceremonious. She didn't give a fig for society and what it said after she'd learned the hard way that others would betray you. Her feisty personality, willingness to care, and determination to be her own woman were amazing characteristics. Her character was tart, unapologetic, and resilient. I liked her a lot, and she rose to one of my favorite heroines of the series within the first few chapters.

Wyndham had been characterized in previous books as cold, calculating, and a jerk, basically. He didn't seem to have a sense of humor or care what his contemporaries thought, but this perception quickly changes within the first chapter. Here's a man who has a hidden wit, dry appreciation for the ridiculous, intelligence, and reluctant charm. His relationship with his mother is a surprise and quite sweet given all the circumstances. It certainly shaped him and the reader's comprehension of his character. However, I like the tidbits you learn about him along the way and the development of his temperament. He becomes a well-developed, magnetic character. I think the only downside to him was his tendency to be distrusting and harsh at times. There are subtle changes throughout, but I could have done with a little more gentling of his character by the end.

Alicia is refreshing and spirited. Her personal strength is to be admired, and her daring is to be commended. For most of the book, she keeps the reader and Wyndham on their toes and introduces her own spunk and humor to the mix. She develops within the story to become a little less hardened when she falls in love with Wyndham. In fact, there are times when he's a bit too much, and I think she should have stood up for herself more forcefully as she would have in the outset. My favorite part, aside from the first seven chapters or so, is when she slaps the Prince Regent and tells him to pay attention. It felt as if the reader is getting to see the real Alicia again.

The wrapping up of the portion involving The Chimera was nicely done, if stretched out a bit. I liked that Alicia did the saving and helped prevent a quadruple murder. The end brought her core character back, and it was nice to see her stand up for herself. Overall, I prefered this book more than the following two, despite the sensual scenes, since there was more action and suspense. With that in mind, I rate it on average a 4/5.

¿Por qué será que los canallas más misteriosos y serios serán los más atractivos? OMG!!! Adore a Stanton.

Sorry, I could not get into this Regency spy story & DNF at
little over 1/3 in. This had sex scenes. Gave this 2 stars.

The ton perceived Lady Alicia, dtr of an earl, morally loose
because of her 3 alleged sexual partners. Not entirely
accurate. Her parents disowned her. Stanton, Lord Wynd-
ham, a marquess, was a spy for the Royal 4. They sought
Chimera, an evil, scar-faced, French aristo. The rumor on
Lord W.: he was a violent master, a brutal horsemen &
sexual deviant. None true. And he'd been celibate for years.

Lady Alicia lived in St. Giles area w/ her former governess.
She overheard in a public place 3 men plot against the
Prince Regent. She shared this info w/ Wyndham who
dismissed her concerns b/c of her rep & his belief that
"everyone lies." He accused the h of several lies. Classy
man.

He paid Alicia to pose as his mistress at any anything goes
house party where couples paired (or had multiple partners)
for mindless sex and alcohol consumption. Alicia listened
for the distinct voice of 1 of 3 men planning the conspiracy.
Alicia was spirited, smart and earthy & W. fought his
attraction for her. He was a mostly too-serious, joyless
Adonis-type man.

All the books in this series are very naughty.

I chose this series because I like mystery in historical romance. Although there was some mystery, the sex scenes eclipsed it, Wow! This author knows how to push the envelope.
Over all I enjoyed the book, but would have also enjoyed solving the mystery with clues sprinkled in buy thr

Well, it concluded the series. I did not like the hero who is constantly whining that he can't use his lie detector abilities on the heroine. Jeez for a big time spy, you'd think he'd have a pair. It just didn't live up to the other books in this series for me.

This is a generous score for me. It was a definite improvement from book 2 but would have been helped if the Hero had actually grown by the time he got around to proposing. It seemed a cheap ploy to hit word count. If I could I'd give it a 2.5.

Started off really funny and then followed with a captivating idiosyncrasy. The plot continued even though the characters started to stretch a bit thin, but the momentum from their initial interactions kept it going for just long enough.

The last book of the Royal Four =)
Because of an error in judgment when she was still a young woman, Lady Alicia has been labeled a liar and quickly expelled from the Society. But then she discovers a conspiracy threatens Prince George, she decided to go see the mysterious Lord Wyndham to explain her story. Having some doubts but not wanting to take risks, Stanton decides to make her his mistress to attend one of the famous orgiastic feasts of Cross and unmask the conspirators. Except that Alicia is far from conventional and Stanton begins to be irresistibly attracted by her, even forgetting his mission ...
The plot around the Chimera finally comes to an end: driven mad by his injuries but still as evil as before, the Chimera is at the height of his genius and we have a worthy conclusion to this story =D The book was full of suspense, twists and emotions but without forgetting humor and sarcasm =)
Well, I still haven't really understand why Alicia went to see Wydham at first but their relationship (especially their letters) was hilarious =) Alicia is very natural (their first meeting was just magic) and completely unconventional =) Humorous and bold, she shakes the world of Staton who is (let's be honest)totally hung-up x) Okay, he's cute, but his obsession with the truth is a little scary and sometimes he's downright cruel ... But I had a lot of fun watching him interact with Alicia and also with the Prince George who is just AWESOME here (I'm a huge fan of him !! I would have loved to have a short-story about him and his great love =D). And his declaration of love in the end ... Awesome ><
To sum up, the Royal Four and the Liar's Club series are two MUST-READ as much for the fans of historical romances but also for everyone who wish to read a good book and fall in love with a spy =)
