It Doesn't Have to Be Crazy at Work - The Calm Company by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson

How many times have you heard someone say, "things have been crazy at work"? Maybe you've even said it yourself. But why all this madness? Today, being overwhelmed and exhausted has become a symbol of success for many people. People work more, but accomplish less and less, because they waste a lot of time on trivia. Hours are wasted on meetings, distractions, and inefficient work practices. Chaos should not be the hallmark of the workplace and anxiety is not a prerequisite for progress. Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson are the managers of Basecamp, an application used to organize projects and internal communications. They have created a healthy and sustainable company, and hope to be an inspiration for change. To this day, running a company with peace of mind is unfortunately not the custom. Put toxic standards aside and finally recognize that when it's crazy at work, there's a problem!

A Stress Free & Calm Way to Have Your Business Be A Success

Jason and David's recommendation go against EVERYTHING you and I have been taught as to run a business like it is battle to be won at all cost!

As a long time serial entrepreneur I now realize after surviving from 17 days in ICU and three months in a recovery center from a Pulmonary Embolism at 76 years young, I can't do it the way I have done it before. I have never had employees but I have had business partners, who considered me a driven maniac!

If I did have employees I would follow EVERYTHING suggested in this book! For example, make sure there is NO workalcohism allowed! When it is 5 on Friday send them home with NO homework and do the same yourself! STOP setting up mandatory employee meetings and instead bring in the THREE people most effective by the discussion, who can get things done! Also give them a synopsis of the topic to be discussed in ADVANCE! Determine what amount of time is needed for a challenge in ADVANCE that will be a GOOD NOT PERFECT solution! Perfectionism is an ILLUSION anyway!
