Paul Carter was born in England in 1969. His father's military career had the family moving all over the world, re-locating every few years. Paul has lived, worked, gotten into trouble and been given a serious talking to in England, Scotland, Germany, France, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Tunisia, Australia, Nigeria, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Borneo, Columbia, Vietnam, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Sumatra, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, China, USA and Saudi Arabia. Today he lives in Perth with his wife, baby daughter and two motorbikes.
I'm pretty sure this Paul Carter isn't the Paul Carter, as this story was published in 1946, and apparently this Paul Carter was born in 1969. If they are the same author, that itself is a feat more extraordinary than this enjoyable work of science fiction.
On the story though, it is quite excellent - stark, depressing, scary and an intriguing glimpse into how a future wracked with nuclear war might have looked to people after World War II. Drilling through the deep rocky crust of the Earth, a gargantuan piece of warcraft carrying a number an enclosed society of soldiers comes at loggerheads with an enemy craft. A violent battles ensues, but little do the hardened heroes know their efforts are wasted as something terrible has just been released upon the world.
