Liquor & Laundry

Hadassah Ibrahim’s high school crush is in town for his little brother's graduation and she is avoiding him like it’s her job.

The last time she saw Ahmad Williamson, she drank too much and spent the night on her knees in his hotel room doing things that still make her blush and cover her face with shame. The last thing she wants to do is relive that humiliating moment. She’d much rather spend the evening at her family’s laundromat; sweeping and mopping the floor as she reconsiders her life choices.

Ahmad Williamson is certain that Hadassah doesn’t remember that night the same way he does.

And he’s spent every night since last summer wishing one of them had been brave enough to call. Was it just a fling for her? Was all that flirting she’d done over the years just a joke?

Confessions slip from lips and clothes hit the floor in Liquor & Laundry.
- high school crush
- #BlackRomance
- jerked chicken wings
- steamy laundromat make out sessions

Loved loved loved! 🥹

This story hit so good! Haddie was so relatable, I wanted to protect her. Ahmad was the most precious, I want to clone that man. What a sweetheart! 😭

Their chemistry was pure fire! I would’ve loved a complete novel on these two!

This novella was everything I needed. I know I’ll reread it in the future.

My first book by this author and definitely not my last!

Liquor & Laundry was disappointing. It started out pretty good but, then, it waned into boring. Haddie worked my last nerve. Her insecurities just about drove me insane. She was entirely too needy for me. Ahmad worked overtime to get Haddie to believe he was attracted to her. With him being an NFL player and her being a BBW, I get why she would question his attraction but, the man shouldn't have to keep telling you you're it for him. Believe him when he says it the first time and move on. It was hard to really enjoy the book because of the grammatical errors. There were missing words, incorrect words, and a ton of spelling errors. Even the chapters were numbered incorrectly. There were two chapter 9s and two chapter 10s. How do you miss that?!!! But, once again, this how you know these authors aren't actually editing their books. Not really sure how this book got labeled as erotica because, it was not. The sex scenes were meh at best and anything but erotic. Liquor & Laundry was my first book by Tasha Harrison and, likely, will be my last. I just wasn't that impressed.

‘I need you to understand something. I like your too-muchness. I’ve always been drawn to it. It intimidated me when we were kids because you always seemed like you were so full of yourself. Like you knew exactly who you were when all of us were just struggling to grow into our fucking weird-ass bodies.’

‘Girls like us, girls that are too much, and have trust issues, we tend to lean on that Too-Muchness when we’re in groups. It’s like a mask we wear to protect ourselves from Rejection and Disappointment. But constantly wearing that mask makes you feel Lonely and Isolated. Right? If you never share your true self, because you’re always so Nervous and inSecure, no one will know who you really are, right?’

This is the romance between Ahmad and Haddie. These two went to high school together, had a thing for each other but it was never spoken about back then. Now they’re adults, Ahmad is an NFL player and one night after a party they have an encounter, then he leaves and neither contacts the other even though they have their numbers. Now Ahmad is back. His brother is graduating and he got a concussion so he’s back home for a bit-this is the set up and when we begin to see him and Haddie’s romance bloom.

Haddie’s thing is, Doing Too Much. It for real is her own type of armor, what she uses to protect herself, her own way of controlling situations. I liked that she discusses therapy for a lot of the decisions she’s made because of it. She tries to pull that on Ahmad and once he peeps game-he doesn’t fall for her shenanigans. He knows what she’s up to. I loved him. I loved him for her. Sometimes you go through some crazy stuff, make a ton of crazy decisions but they lead you to your person. I cried at the end. I will never get tired of reading heroes who woo the heroine (and Me) are crazy about her and are just, really good men. This is my second book by Tasha at this point and she writes them so well! Can’t wait for more from this series!

Well Liquor & Laundry by Tasha L Harrison was fucking great. A hero who isn't afraid to be soft for the woman he's pined for and is a bit intimidated by her in the best ways? Oh yes please.

Hadassah finally hooked up with her high school crush last year at a party. But, they were both drinking and while her blow job was certainly enthusiastic, they left the party without talking about anything, and he never called. Now Ahmad is back in town again for his little brother's graduation, and she's not sure if she wants to see him at all, even if she's been so worried ever since a he was taken out of his football season by a nasty concussion.

Ahmad has been thinking about Haddie too, always. He's aghast to find out the woman he finds oh so confident and to be honest a bit intimidating, thinks he sees her as nothing more than a loud mess. Oh heck no.

Over the course of the days Ahmad is home, these two need to figure out if their high school crushes can become a real relationship.

A perfectly crafted novella that packs a punch for its shorter length, Harrison does an amazing job balancing out the hot chemistry between hear leads, and the various forces pulling them apart. Great secondary characters and just enough football details (including the problems with the NFL and CTE), this was a perfect bedtime snack.

And then reading in the acknowledgements the author is going to keep writing this ampersand series to give fab secondary characters HEAs?! A romance reader's DREAM!

I loved this so much. I think I've discovered a new favorite author and I can't wait to get more in this series, which means that I need to hurry up and consume her backlist so I'll be familiar with the characters that will be featured. This also made me want to watch football again which is a miracle. I loved Haddie and Ahmad so much - I think he's on the top 10 book boyfriend list. So so good! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

Absolutely loved Haddie's "too-muchness"! Apparently so did NFL player Ahmad.

So glad that Ahmad treated Haddie like the Queen she is. Because so many haters did not! And it was a direct hit on her self-esteem and a negative effect on her relationship with Ahmad. But Ahmad is not about to give up on the perfect woman for him. Beautiful story!

I must first say that Ahmad is bae! ❤ Ahmad and Hattie were associates in high school, who secretly pined for each other, and never said or did anything about it. Hattie was the party "it" girl, and Ahmad was the shy one. After a drunken night the year before, they both left each other wondering what if, what was that, and does he/she want more? When Ahmad comes home to his brother's graduation he seeks Hattie out, as she is hiding from him in utter embarrassment. They both made assumptions about what the other was thinking, feeling, wanting without ever speaking and finding out for certain. I loved how when they finally do open up, how they both allow themselves to be vulnerable and spill all of their feelings and insecurities. Ahmad was such a sweetheart, how he would not allow Hattie's deep rooted insecurities to sabotage their future. He spoke positivity and love into her, until she understood that all he wanted was her. Their friend circle was amazing! The all rallied around each other and the support they gave was beautiful. Really enjoyed this read, and look forward to reading more from this author. 👍👍👍

Holy moly did I ever love this friends to lovers romance between dressmaker Haddie and NFL star Ahmad. They were such a great match. The way she shows up for him! The way he addresses her insecurities!!! Sweet and tender and HOT.

There’s no dark moment which gives Haddie and Ahmad time to work through whether a long-term relationship is possible, given his job. Two great people who finally have a chance to act on their mutual crush and see what happens. And Ahmad is great about communicating how he feels to Haddie, even while recognizing this level of forthcoming is new for him. The way he cares for her and assuages her fears brought me to tears. He loves her “too muchness.” I adored this from start to finish.

Character notes: Hadassah is a 31 year old fat Black woman with a nose piercing. Her dad is Nigerian. Ahmad is a 31 year old Black man.

CW: past grade 3 concussion, concern about CTE, fat-shaming (countered), alcohol

This was a bit of a disappointment. Not erotic at all. Most of the peen in the vageen sex happened off the page. And it was hella sappy and I just...wasn’t expecting that. Not when the title claims it’s an erotic novella.

This was my first book by this author and I liked her writing style a lot. I also enjoyed the story and the depth of the two main characters. My only pet peeve was that they talked too much. Between kisses. Before sex. During sex. After sex. Instead of sex. Just nonstop feelings, feelings, feelings. It took me out of the moment a few times. But overall, I enjoyed the book.

This was such an intense read for such a short story! I love when an author can pack a good emotional punch in a novella length. Ahmad and Haddie are highschool friends who always had a crush on each other, but never pursued it. Now, as adults, they finally come together, but both are bringing baggage they need to overcome and learn to trust each other. Sweet, sexy, emotional and enough shared back story between the two to make it all believable.

While reading Tasha L. Harrison’s Liquor & Laundry I experienced a tidal wave of swoony emotions. It’s deeply tender, sweet and vulnerable. If Hadassah and Ahmad were real people I would want to send them cookies.

Hadassah has returned home after dropping out of her master’s program and is living in the apartment above her family’s laundromat. She’s slowly building her couture business and trying to figure out what’s next. Ahmad plays professional football and after several years of being completely focused on his career he is reevaluating his priorities. He suffered a concussion the year before that was bad enough to cut his season short. He’s willing to use his body to lift his family out of poverty, but he isn’t willing to sacrifice his future.

Ahmad and Hadassah went to high school together and share a friend group. Hadassah has been openly crushing on Ahmad for years. The previous year they had a hookup gone awry and he said he’d call, but then he didn’t and she didn’t call him. Hadassah is embarrassed and decides to avoid him when he returns to their hometown for a visit. Ahmad brings a plate of food and a bottle of Hennessy from the party she won’t attend to the laundry.

“Are we getting drunk?” he asked.

“That’s what you came here to do, isn’t it?”

Ahmad stopped short of pouring more of Hennessy in my cup and looked me in the eye. “I came out here because I heard you weren’t coming to the party, and I wanted to see you.”

Ahmad is ready to have a relationship with Hadassah and is willing to be honest, open, and vulnerable with her to prove his sincerity. They have to let go of preconceptions about themselves and each other. They are so sweet with each other and their qualms are more about what they have to offer than what the other has to give. Reading Liquor & Laundry was like cuddling in a soft blanket with a glass of good scotch on a cold rainy day.

It is very sweet and relationship focused with some high heat sex. I’ll be reading more Tasha Harrison in the future.

Pardon Me, Still Sobbing

Whew! I have been in the worst of reading slumps lately. Months of starting books and putting them down, unfinished. LIQUOR & LAUNDRY pulled me out of that pit.

Tasha does not disappoint! She posted a #FridayKiss Twitter teaser from this book and I had to have it. I instantly fell for Hadassah and Ahmad and rooted for them from the first scene. By the end of it, I was jumping for joy. Actually, I’m still wiping tears.

Read this book! It has the perfect amount of spice and feels and triumphs.

this was such an amazing novella!!! it's steamy and so sweet, and i completely flew through it. it's about Haddie and Ahmed who used to have crushes on each other in high school but never acted on them (except for one drunk night that led to a little something), and now they get reunited and things go on from there 🔥🔥🔥

The perfect blend of sweet and sexy! Ahmad is the kindest, hottest hero I’ve read in a long time. No third act breakup. Haddie, the heroine, is complex and well-written, and I fully understood all of her motivations and hesitation about falling for Ahmad.

If you’re looking for a steamy and heartfelt book about an NFL player and the girl from his past he never forgot, definitely read this!

This book held my attention from beginning to end. It definitely captured some true issues people deal with within themselves. I love how Haddie and Ahmad worked through these things. Great read

This was delightful! Low angst and high heat. I loved Haddie so much and Ahmad was such a great match for her. They were a great balance and this novella delivered exactly what I wanted from it - I got all the romance and sex that I expected but also a really great emotional punch I didn't.

I love that Tasha L. Harrison is focusing on the secondary characters of her previous series for this new series. We are about to have lots and lots of great romances to come. Haddie and Ahmad are the first one to show us what is love and let me tell you that I had such a good time reading it. Up until the 80% mark tho... (more on that!)

Haddie and Ahmad are childhood friends. They know each other from high school and have been flirting all through their lives, but never took that extra step. Ahmad went and became a pretty famous NFL player but still has Haddie on his mind when he returns one summer day. Haddie, o nher side, is a fashion designer and she's starting with her own ship on top of her family's laundromat. She's designing wedding gowns and beautiful clothes and she's ready for the next step.

Ahmad is so very soft for Haddie. Since the very beginning, he's whipped and ready to get down in one knee. I love men who know what they want, who they want. Get out with all of the "I don't know what I want from you" "I don't know if I could be good for you". Dude, if you want something, you go for it! And Ahmad was all in from the very first page! I also loved that every single one of their friends knew about their high school crushes and wanted to be together already, so cute!

Ok so at the 80% something mark I encountered this quote that didn't have to best wording. And it let me down. Like, it's unecessary! "They're staring because until this moment, they thought I was asexual or a robot or something. Your presence disproves that theory and they're trying to come to grips with that." You see what I mean? I don't know if it is comparing asexuality and being a robot, but putting them side by side together isn't a good look. It definitely made me sad that encounter this quote here.

This quote:

Was just so accurate I gasped

This short story is about  Ahmad and Haddie they went to the same high school and were in the same circle. They both liked, liked each other but dint approach each other about that.... year later....

We have Ahmad as an NFL player and Haddie starting her own business or more clothing line.

One drunken night, Haddie did something and both thought the other forgot...

Well now is Ahmad's Brother's Graduation which means Ahmad is back in town....

I'm not going to lie, I had to push through this short story because....Haddie worked every last one of my nerves.  I get being Insecure, we all are, to some extent. But her insecurities went above and beyond and annoyed me like drove me insane...and the fact that Ahmad had to pull everything out of her was just exhausting.
Poor Ahmad had to convince her every step like if she needs that much convincing let her go like damn he had so much on his plate, and she wasn't making it easier for him....

Like I get the whole thing Haddie had going on is her protecting her self in some kind of way but damn that was too much armor girl...

Ahmad was just so cute and going to his own Pain but yet so in love with her, he was ready for everything she threw at him like he had answers back to back for her...

My basic facts

Genre:    Contemporary Black romance

Series:    no

Love triangle?   no

Star rating?  2,3

So, here are the things I liked:
-Haddie and Ahmad were cute together
-That they had their own friend groups
-That they liked each other since high school
-The laundromat setting. It's original.

Anddd here's what bothered me:
-Haddie was too insecure and needy. It felt like every time she and Ahmad were having a good moment, something happened then another chapter would be wasted as Ahmad tries to reassure and then convince her that he really loves her and all her flaws. That man was too damn patient lmao.
-The copious amount of misspelled words, or words that didn't have any business being where they were. There were tons of grammatical errors and it really detracted from the mood. It just didn't feel like anyone bothered to edit it. Sigh.
-The poor smut. It was supposed to be rather erotic, but I felt they spent more time talking than getting anywhere. It was very underwhelming, here's an example of what I mean.
They kiss, then talk. They talk then kiss some more. Things get steamy, they stop then talk some more. They finally look like they gonna get somewhere but hold on! They ain't finished talking. Get. Freaky. Already. Please.
-Lastly, how many times do you have to say his deep soulful eyes? We get it, Tasha Harrison. Ahmad has beautiful, soulful eyes. You don't gotta remind me fifty times...

What a great black romance.

A great romance really. Haddie and Ahmad have had crushes on each other for years. A chance encounter was all it took for Ahmad to see if the spark was really still there and if it grew into a flame.

The best part about this book was the growth in this couple. They didn’t know how to talk to each other, but then took that intimate chance in being active in communicating with each other.

This love was years in the making. Time shouldn’t be wasted in trying to figure it all out.

In turn, we get these open discussions of life and love. We also see how Haddie manipulated herself to protect her heart and how Ahmad took all emotions away to protect his.

And you know that flame, it turned into an inferno with these two.

Ahmad is a football player so you get that imagery of how a player is supposed to be with a model type woman. Haddie is not. And the way this was written was good. I loved this so much and I loved how Haddie was confident in herself.

I didn’t feel like the length of this novella was short. I just loved it so much for putting valid feelings into a romance and just making it so passionate and hot.

This was okay. I don't really have many notable feelings towards it.

When I picked this book up, I thought it would be a light romance story between long-time friends, but it's not. It is well-packed with emotions and it definitely touches more on body-shaming and bottle-up insecurities.

Ahmad is really a sweet guy, I'd say he's a gentle giant with the way he is with Haddie and their friends.

As for Haddie, I enjoyed seeing her short journey to acceptance of the love and happiness that she deserves.

In spite of all the things I enjoyed about this story, the romance didn't exactly sweep me off of my feet. Probably it has more to do with me not anticipating how deep and emotional this story would be in terms of the individual struggles of each character. I did have a hard time connecting with their romance, and I wouldn't really say that I saw that they're fated mates .

Nonetheless, the story was okay, so it's still definitely worth reading.

Concept 100%
Execution 10%

This was a very short book that could have been much longer with a more seasoned writer. I felt the writing was amateur and the book escalated quickly quickly without much build up or detail. I felt we need to slow roll this one a bit and it would have been perfect. Better details and descriptions of characters and better character development. I have no idea what the mmc acrually looked like and honestly the fmc either. I had a slightly better understanding of some of the friends.

There were some topics that were touched on in this book that the reader/we the people, could have benefitted tremendously from. Such as the reason why the fmc explored sex the way she did prior to going on a hiatus. We could have used more than that hat was given and it would have carved a better understanding/connection to the characters.

Again, wonderful concept. Cute story. Not so great execution.

I thought was going to be an erotic novella.......it is not! On a scale of spicy or smutty, I give it 1/5.
That aside, this novella is a lovely childhood friends-to-lovers story. I was not expecting how well the issues of healing, effective, and patient communication were addressed in less than 150 pages.

What I loved:
- both MC & love interest had their own friend groups
- even though it was written in first person (lots of I's), it did not feel like a journal & it fits the overall theme of the story.
- how the author addressed the issue that comes with healing and letting the readers know we are all deserving of love.

What I didn't like: It was not erotic. Even though "erotic novella" is literally in the title!!
