What’s better than three monstrous hotties? How about four…
While helping the trio of sexy-as-sin monsters who followed me home, I lost my apartment, my sense of security, and more blood than was really healthy. Somehow my new lovers make me feel like I’ve gotten the better part of the bargain.
Unfortunately, their newly-rescued boss isn’t so keen on humans. I get the feeling he’d rather rend me limb from limb than give me the time of day. Too bad for him my mortal skills are just too useful to toss aside. After all, we’ve still got a conspiracy of monster-torturing psychos to destroy.
But between crushing Bossypants’s tests and tracking down dirt on our enemies, the most unsettling thing I’ve encountered might be what’s lurking under my skin. I contain powers no human is meant to wield. What does that make me?
I have no idea, but figuring out how to tap into my supernatural side may be my only chance to avenge the woman who raised me and so many who’ve been murdered since. And the one thing I am sure of?
This crook doesn’t back down.

The heroine:Sorsha - She is very tough and independent and has a pet miniature dragon named Pickle. She spends her time freeing shadow monsters from human “collectors” who know about the supernatural beings and keep them in private collections. After rescuing a trio of higher level shadow creatures she helped them free their boss and is now working with all of them to take down a group that gathers and experiments on them.
The Heroes:Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Higher shadow creatures, the guys are fighting for the rights of their kind. Ruse is an incubus who feeds off of sexual energy, he has been feeding off Sorsha, he can also persuade anyone to do just about anything with his sensuous voice. Snap is called a devourer and his main power is something he is too afraid to use, but he comes in very handy with his ability to taste objects and feel a history of them. Thorn is what humans call an Angel, but he refers to himself as “Winged”. He is a fierce warrior. Omen is the boss and is a shifter, he is able to become a raging beast with deadly sharp claws.
The Story: Now that Sorsha, Ruse, Snap and Thorn have found and freed Omen. They plan to take down The Company of Light, the group that had held Omen and had killed the fae woman that raised Sorsha after her parents were murdered. Though Omen is not fond of having a human female on the elite team that he put together for this purpose.
I enjoyed the acrimonious relationship between Omen and Sorsha. She is so fierce and sassy that she rubs him the wrong way pretty much every time she opens her mouth and he does the same to her. It doesn’t help his dislike of her that his men seem more than fond of her and insist on keeping her on the team. Though when she starts displaying some power of her own, Omen begins to see her in a different light.
The narration on this one was also done by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen and I didn’t have the same issue while listening to this one as I did with the first. Vanessa seemed to do a much better job on the male voices this time around and I enjoyed the listen.
I didn't like this as much as the first, and that was pretty much entirely due to Omen - he was a complete bag of shit. And my problem is not just with him (though, really, fuck him), it is more with the way Sorsha just took all the shit he was dealing out. Why, why, why didn't she throw back in his face that "hey dickhead, of the 5 of us standing here, I'm the only one who wasn't recently put in a cage by these enemies. No, I'm the one who busted your worthless ass out. So if anyone here needs to prove they can contribute to this team, it is YOU."
But no. She just continued to roll over for him, and play his stupid, petty games. And it wrecked her character a bit for me. It also wrecked Snap, Thorn, and Ruse a bit for me that they allowed it.
I've noticed that an issue with almost all of the Eva Chase series I've read is that by book 2, the books are more work than they are worth. The romance and plot are never engaging enough to make up for the constant frustration at not only the situation the characters get themselves into, but also how bland the characters are. If you are gonna start any Eva Chase series, especially this one, you are better off reading the first book and coming up with a conclusion on your own. It'll save you time and annoyance.
This was a mixed book for me. I thought the plot was slower in this one and we didn't make much progress on finding out more about Sorsha and it's killing me. On the other hand, there was more romance and a scene with Ruse, Snap, and Sorsha that I really liked, plus Thorn is getting involved now. Omen is kind of a dick, but he may be slowly warming up to Sorsha as she proves her bravery and usefulness.
For the first half, this didn't move much and I struggled to get through it. Of course it ramps up a lot in the latter half and the ending left me wanting to jump into the next book. I continue to like the premise of it and I hope we get more action, both fighting and romantically in the next installment!
I’m enjoying this series. There’s a lot of action in the books and I find it keeps everything going at a faster pace. The heroine and her dragon pet Pickles are back this time after rescuing her guys’ leader Omen. So far I’m not a fan of him, he’s grouchy, mean and just an asshole at times. Once the stick up his ass is removed l’m all for sorsha being able to really experience four men at her beck and call 😏 Given Omen’s experiences while being held captive by humans I can’t exactly blame him for being so moody or cautious with her. We learn though that the heroine isn’t just an ordinary human like she thought. What she is no one knows but her powers with fire are something magical that’s for sure just like the small bits of shadow smoke that crept out of a wound. 🤔 I’m curious what she is and what role she’ll play overall. Her being a mix breed will certainly help their relationship work better than if she was just human. Now all they have to do is rescue Snap and all the other captured supernaturals and take down a major anti shifter organization spread throughout the country, piece of cake.
. Plot: 1. Sorsha: They check out the site of the facility the day after rescuing Omen. They find the facility gone. While exploring the area where it was, a pair of jeans on fire almost hit her. 2. Sorsha: They visit the hacker they'd used before. They ask her to look for supernatural dealings and she finds one. While there, Omen seems to purposefully cut Sorsha with a sword. 3. Sorsha: Owen gives her a couple tests. First, she has to get back to the city (100 miles away) in three hours. Then, Owen has her steal a cops hat and she does that too. She then heads off and sneaks into Ellen and Huyen's home and tells them about her investigation so that they can help. 4. Thorn: Omen gets upset when Sorsha tells them that she brought the Fund leaders into the investigation. He gives her another task which she easily completes by using a loophole on the rules he set. 5. Sorsha: They go to the supernatural deal the hacker found. They set the Shadowkind free, kill a few of the hunters, and keep two to chat with. They let the collector go telling him to spread the word to others not to deal with the hunter group. 6. Sorsha: They interrogate the two, but don't find out much. She leaves to get dinner at Jades and ask Jade to send any Shadowkind her way that would be willing to lend a hand. Ruse shows up to seduce her, but Omen shows up shortly after and cock blocks him. 7. Sorsha: Snap shows up in her bed that night and this time he fucks her. Then, they cuddle. 8. Snap: He has an argument with Omen about sharing her bed. Omen mentions that she's fragile and he decides he just has to keep away anyone that could harm her. 9. Sorsha: Omen has her do two more challenges which ends with her shoving a piece of pie in his face. She goes to the meeting with the Fund and they decide they'll start looking into where the Company is getting their funding from. 10. Ruse: The hacker gives them a new deal to bust. While scouting the area, Sorsha breaks her wrist. They leave when they realize the deal was cancelled. 11. Sorsha: They get back to the cabin and are immediately ambushed. They manage to escape, but they lose Omen's car. 12. Sorsha: Omen takes the group to meet up with some gangsters in a strip club. They say they won't help with the company, but they do owe Omen a few favors. With them, he gets Sorsha healed and they get a camper van to replace Omen's car. 13. Omen: He also got a tip from Rex for a rift that's patrolled by hunters. Some show up and they grab a few of them. 14. Sorsha: Vivi calls with info she found at a Company fundraiser - potential addresses - and that Jade wants to talk. Sorsha meets up with her and she says to avoid the bar for now because there's suspicious mortals asking questions and also gives her the name of a Shadowkind who might be interested in helping. Then, she notices an ex-lover and hurries to the van before he sees her. 15. Sorsha: Ruse finds her hanging out in the fairgrounds and they end up telling each other about their past heartbreaks. They share a kiss and then head back to the camper. 16. Sorsha: Omen tests her this time by making her think the hunters found them. He's about to show her fire abilities to the others and that she bleeds smoke sometimes too. 17. Sorsha: Omen tries some tactics to bring out her fire abilities, but he only manages to get her to light a tiny fire on his shirt. Just after the group settles down to eat, the hunters show up and destroy the van. Just as they're about to kill Thorn, she makes the flames from the van sweep across the hunters. She also uses her fire to jumpstart the truck. As they drive away, she and Thorn share a kiss. 18. Ruse: Sorsha meets up with the Fund only to find them giving her the cold shoulder for all the death she's left in her wake despite her saying it was in self defence. Ruse listens in when she leaves though and find out the info they were holding out on her - Leland found out trucks were sent to the address in the Warf the day after they rescued Omen. 19. Sorsha: They meet up with the Shadowkind that Jade told them about - Bow and Giselle. One of their friends was taken and they want to help get him back and even have a glamoured bus for them to use. Ruse then shares Leland's info. 20. Sorsha: Bow pulls out weed to celebrate and Thorn decides to join in. Sorsha pulls Snap and Ruse into a room to celebrate too. After they finish, Huyen calls to say Ellen was attacked. 21. Thorn: He and Sorsha sneak into the hospital to see if Ellen is okay. Sorsha finds out no one has been able to contact Vivi, so they sneak back out and run the few blocks to her place. They get there just in time to rescue her from the Company. 22. Sorsha: They find Vivi a place to stay/hide out at. Then, Omen takes Sorsha out for some fire training. 23. Sorsha: The group finished preparations and then heads to the Warf. On the way there, Ellen calls to say Leland is planning to betray her and then something runs into the bus. 24. Sorsha: They escape the totaled bus and are ambushed by Company men. Sorsha almost gets stabbed in the heart, but Snap changes into his devourer form and devours the man's head. 25. Snap: He devours the man's soul and his memories. When the police show up, Thorn rights the bus and they all get on and drive away. Giselle was badly hurt and Snap despairs about his abilities. 26. Sorsha: They realize Snap is missing and Ruse and Thorn go to look for him. Omen and Sorsha train some more and almost kiss. 27. Sorsha: They discuss how Leland's betrayal changes things. Then, Thorn and Sorsha have sex for the first time. 28. Sorsha: She and Ruse go to see Leland. Ruse gets out of him where the Company moved to and messes with him some while he's at it. 29. Omen: Rex and his gang show up to offer help. Rex also mentions a rebel to look out for. Birch is able to heal Giselle enough that she'll live. 30. Sorsha: They attack the mansion. They find and release the Shadowkind there. Rex's tech guy grabs all the data on the computers and then wipes them. Sorsha sets the place on fire on the way out. 31. While going through the data he stole, the tech guy finds that they only took out one branch of seven, that Snap is being held in Chicago, and that the main branch is in San Francisco. Rex's group heads out. Giselle gives them the bus saying they won't need it in the shadow realm.

** I read this as part of the Flirting with Monsters Complete box set.
Twilight Crook is book two in the Flirting With Monsters series by Eva Chase. It’s a reverse harem series with a total of four books to complete the story ARC.
I’m enjoying the series. In Twilight Crook we get a conspiracy of humans, unlike help, and Sorsha grows closer to her shadowkin monsters men. We also learn that Sorsha isn’t just an ordinary human, but we also don’t make much progress on finding out more about her. I’m curious to know!
The guys are great and we get more romance in this novel. The only guy in the gang I don’t care for is Omen. He’s a dick; especially in this installment. He’s the bad boy in the group, but I also think he’s slowly warming up to Sorsha.
There’s a lot of action in Twilight Crook; which keeps things moving along, but the first few chapters are a little slow going.
The one thing I got very frustrated on in this novel is that the bad guys kept finding our gang. This happened over and over and I kept think how are they finding our gang? And, our group didn’t stop to think on how the bad guys kept finding them. It was very frustrating!
Twilight Crook kept me engaged and I plan to read on and see what happens next. It’s not a wow book, but still enjoyable.
Twilight Crook is the second book in the Flirting With Monsters series by Eva Chase.
I really wanted to be consumed by this series. It started out fairly well enough, that I had possessed such high hopes. Alas, redirecting the plot and supposition to focus so primarily on the drama with her individual mates just drove me further away. I will not deny a heavy emphasis on this aspect of the story showcased previously, in the first book, but Eva Chase took it to new annoying heights here.
Snap running off and deciding to TURN HIMSELF OVER to the Company of Light because he wishes to have the monster inside himself removed. THE HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY. Yes, it happened before they realized that the Company was developing a shadowkind disease to wipe out all on Earth and in their own realm. But COME ON! It was obviously heading in that direction from its inception. Why else would there be such a secretive, well structured organization kidnapping and torturing their kind unless they were experimenting how to go about total annihilation?
As well as Ruse’s emotional melodramatics. Which basically account to no other woman ever considering a SEX DEMON might have a heart and emotions and want more than JUST sex. So no earth shattering mysteries in this development either. Simply useless drivel.
Add this to the continuation in stringing us, the readers, along with wondering what the F? our MC is. Where her firepower comes from? What it has to do with this talk of apocalypse on the horizon? Hell related?
I can’t really pull myself back into this series. Because I know we’ll face rescuing Snap, hun discovering the error of his ways, some epiphany sharing, discover little to nothing about her origins, except maybe something that points to not being able to trust someone she knows in the next book. Based on my experience with this work thus far I don’t expect any major surprises.
This book is so fast paced, it's impossible to get bored. The book picks up right where the last dropped off making it seem like I'm just reading Part 2 of the same book, which I like. We get even more of Ruse, Snap, and Thorn with a new addition of Omen. I loved the romantic developments between the original monster group. The tension between Omen and Sorsha is good, too. You can tell they are both developing feelings but still fighting them.
Another action-packed storyline in this fast-paced series. This was one gripping edge of your seat read! There is a ton of action and a nice amount of steam. Everyone needs a snap in there lives... I really enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to see what they get up to next.
Yeah, I'm out. This book was very action forward which I don't mind but I feel like the characters are poorly written and it's probably the most boring reverse harem I've ever read. The plot has some good elements to it but it'll be nice if the characters were also the highlight of the novel, I wanted to learn more from them and not just basic informations. They also act in a way that's very cliché and predictable.
This series is getting a bit boring for me. And I'm super sad about it. Because it has so much potential to draw me in with it's unique concept. But it's just not doing what I wanted it to do when I started the series.
The characters continue to battle the Company of Light in this book. But what makes me feel like I'm falling on the side of disinterest is the fact that this whole fight is one sided, in the "winning" aspect. The Company is ALWAYS one step ahead and the characters seem to be stuck in this endless fight that they seem to never be on the winning side of. Which is quite boring. Then all of a sudden they defeat the Company? It's all quite boring to me.
I like the characters in this series but I feel the story some times gets a little lost. I like the way that characters are being unveiled and we find out about them, their pasts and their powers. I would love to know what Sorsha is, what her powers are and so on. I'm glad they got the fourth man back but he seems like an arse at the moment. As it stands at the moment I can't see him and Sorsha together. He needs to do something big to win me over.
There was a lot of things going for this book but just not enough to connect deeply with the characters. Sure, the start of a physical relationship with her 3 men was awesome. I loved reading about Snap and his point of views. His innocence is a breath of fresh air. Thorn is melting towards Sorcha which balances out his overall grumpiness. Ruse didn’t have to much of a leading part in this book like he did in the first but his presence was still up front. Sorcha, she puzzles me. Her deep anger at Ruse for using his mind reading power on her for a millisecond in this first book and he owned up to it immediately and apologizing. She took forever to forgive him. Yet, Omen can order her on these stupid quests solo, to see if she can last or whatever bullshit he sprung each time. He cut her on purpose and she didn’t really question it. Where was her back bone, sassiness, snarkiness, badassiness, cheeky, quirkiness for her love of lyric singing while trying to bolster her courage? Her back bone of steel. It was missing in this book, and she let Omen walk all over her. They Still haven’t asked how the Compound of Light is tracking them. No one questioned how Snark disappeared, they all Know how he feels about that side of himself. After hearing from a bad guy that he thought they were trying to remove their shadow side, he’s moody, totally unlike himself, and then immediately disappears after. It was easy to connect the dots even without reading his point of view. Omen, just hasn’t given me enough as a reader to like him even a little. He’s not grateful to them for saving him. Didn’t even ask what they had done to save them, and how they started working with Sorcha. It was just blah…. Not sure if I’m gonna read further. I had high hopes.
Saorsa lost her apartment and sense of security while helping the three sexy monsters who followed her home. However, the new lovers (as they now are) make her feel as if she got the better part of the bargain. Unfortunately, their boss Omen who they worked together to rescue, is not at all keen on humans - in fact all he does is test her and try his best to prove that she is not good enough to continue to help them. Too bad then that her mortal skills are far too useful to ignore - after all they have the group of monster torturing people to destroy so they can release all of their prisoners. Interestingly, as part of passing all of the tests set for her by Omen, they discover she has powers that no human is meant to wield which creates the question - if she is not human what is she and can she work out how to use this supernatural side of her nature? After all, this could be her only chance to avenge the murder of the woman who raised her as well as all the beings who have been murdered since. Only one thing seems certain - that she is not going to back down!
Wow - this certainly was an action-packed story that kept me hooked wanting to know what was going to happen next. It was nice to see the relationships between Saorsa and the guys developing and that it felt more two-way that them feeling that they owed her something. The new powers were interesting and I loved the way Omen tried to help her work out how to use them. The ending of this story certainly was dramatic and I can't wait to find out what happens next. Contains some sexual content.
Unicorns, Hell Hounds & Winged Things Oh My! Holy heckish hounds!! This was one gripping edge of your seat read! Things seem to go wrong left and right as we meet new colorful characters and lose one as well. Sorsha is brilliant and determined to free the monsters at personal cost to herself. She's betrayed and left broken hearted as she takes down the baddies. There are passionate moments and close calls around every corner. Her Monsters are fierce and devoted to her safety and her pleasure. Things are just unfolding with more twists ahead. This is one of the best from RH master weaver Eva Chase! She always brings the plot together in unexpected ways that leave you giddy with joy and high on badassery.
In the second book of the Flirting with Monsters series, Sorcha and her Shadowkind men have finally freed their boss, Omen, who now takes control of the mission, trying to stop the evil organization that is attacking Shadowkind.
To start off with, Omen is a complete and utter jerk, and there are points in this book where I honestly wondered why Sorcha just doesn't say "screw him" and walk away from the whole situation. She has nothing to prove to him, yet he keeps making her prove herself. Sorcha's other guys are still great, and we learn more about them, and about the organization that wants them captured or killed. We also get insight into Sorcha's background, which is great.
Plot-wise, this book is better than the first one, but I liked the first one better, because Omen really annoyed me in this book. I hope he gets better for the last two books.
This is the second book in the series, Flirting with Monsters, we find the crew navigating each other (literally) in this action packed story. Sorsha is a pain, if you ask Oman, but I think he starts to see how special she is and could be beneficial to them. Sorsha discovers she has powers but doesn’t understand what that means or who she really is.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I need the next book right now! This book had lots of action and steam! Sorsha just keeps being a bad a$$ and I love her! Im hoping to get to know more about boss man Omen as I continue this series!
Upped the steam factor. Our heroine gets all three in this book. She also realises there is more than some NSA action. I fell into this story and world. Snap is still my fav and bless him. In this book, you see, even the sweetest can be the most dangerous. 4.1 stars
