Bookshop owner and maid of honor Addie Greyborne vows to catch the killer who crashed her best friend's wedding...

It promises to be Greyborne Harbor's wedding of the year. The impending nuptials of Serena Chandler and Zach Ludlow will take place aboard his family's luxurious super-yacht, currently moored in the harbor and the talk of the town. But on the day of the wedding, a man's body washes up on the beach with no ID, only a torn page from a book in his pocket. As owner of Beyond the Page Books and Curios, bibliophile Addie is called in to identify the book, but she cannot.

The morning following the extravagant ceremony, a second body washes ashore and Addie has a sinking feeling that the two deaths are connected. While the guests are held on the yacht as the police investigate, at least Addie can peruse Zach's father's rare books library on board. A copy of Agatha Christie's first Hercule Poirot novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, provides a clue that the killer may still be on the ship—but narrowing down the suspects without becoming the next victim may prove a truly Herculean task...

In this sixth installment in Lauren Elliott's Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series, the big day for Addie's best friend Serena and her fiancé Zach has finally arrived and they are getting married on his family's luxurious yacht, currently moored in the town's harbor. But a few hours before the wedding, the body of a man washes up on the beach. No one recognizes the man and the wedding proceeds as planned. However the next day, the body of a guest is found on the beach. While the murders are being investigated, Addie and the other wedding guests are forced to stay on the yacht for a few days, and obviously, Addie decides to do some sluething.

Another fun visit to Greyborne Harbor. I love how the characters have grown and developed. I am a big sucker for locked door type mysteries, so naturally, I enjoyed the yacht setting in this installment, with a killer on board and lots of shady things going on, including affairs, family secrets, and book forgery. There was no shortage of suspects and twists and turns to keep you guessing until the conclusion.
A great read and I look forward to the next book, especially with the addition of Pippi.

Under the Cover of Murder by Lauren Elliott is the sixth book in the cozy Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. Each book of this series contains it’s own mystery to solve so they could be read as a standalone or in any order. However, one would get to know the characters better reading the series in order with some character development carrying over book to book.

In the first book of this series, Murder by the Book, readers were introduced to Addison Greyborne who had returned to her hometown, a small New England town that had been named for her ancestors back in Colonial times, Greyborne Harbor. Addie had been still recovering from the murder of her fiance, her father dying in a tragic accident and then had found out a long lost aunt had also died but left her whole estate to Addie.

Addie’s inheritance had given her the opportunity to start over and continue to work with books after leaving her job at the Boston Public Library. With her aunt having so many rare books in her collection and the funds to open a shop Addie decided to open Beyond the Page bookstore. Now as Addie is preparing to attend a wedding aboard a luxury yacht a body is found nearby holding a book page then as the wedding is wrapping up yet another death occurs leaving guests trapped aboard the yacht waiting for details.

I have been following the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series from the beginning and enjoy each trip back to Greyborne Harbor. Being an avid reader I love the main character’s knowledge of books and that books are involved yet again in another mystery. Of course there’s some twists and plenty of red herrings along the way to find the murderer which as always kept the pages turning.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I am sorry now that I have jumped in at book 6. There are many 4 and 5 star reviews for this book so I guess that it is one of those series which benefits by knowing the characters and their relationships. I can only judge by what I experienced in this one book.

I enjoyed the setting on the yacht and thought it was a clever way for the author to contain her cast in one place for the duration of the story. Some of the characters were a little OTT and I struggled to believe in Addie's main relationship. I also found the way she gained information by eavesdropping hard to believe.

I guess it was all done the way a cosy mystery goes but it turned out to be a just an okay read.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Addie Greyborne’s best friend Serena Chandler was to be married to Zach Ludlow and the wedding would be held on the luxury super yacht owned by his father and stepmother. Addie, along with a select few, were staying on board overnight after the bride and groom had departed for their honeymoon. But the wicked stepmother had different ideas about the wedding and Serena wasn’t happy.

The following morning Addie found that a second body had been discovered. The first had been found the day before and Addie, in her role as bookshop owner and highly knowledgeable on first editions and classics, was called to the library on board the yacht. Her expertise had her helping the police in their investigations, while everyone left on board was unable to leave. Someone on the luxury vessel was a killer and that person needed to be found before someone else was murdered…

Under the Cover of Murder is the 6th in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery by Lauren Elliott and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were some far fetched sections (where clues seemed to jump into Addie’s hands without much effort) but other than that, the story flowed well, I didn’t guess the killer – even with plenty of suspects – and I liked the setting of the yacht. Good food, fancy drinks and staff to cater to your every need – a luxury holiday if you take away the killer!! Although I haven’t read any previous books in this series, I didn’t have any trouble following the story. Recommended.

Pleasant murder mystery set aboard a family's luxurious yacht. Plenty of characters with possible means, methods and opportunities. Only the main character, bookshop owner Addie Greyborne, felt well developed. 3.5 stars This was a goodreads giveaway. Thank you to Kensington Publishers and the author for the complimentary copy.

I'd have murdered the step mother in-law, then slapped the father in-law and the groom for letting the over-entitled witch hijacks the brides wedding. The sleuthing is pretty good in what is basically women's fiction. The first body is found before the wedding but remains unidentified for a time. Then the second body means that everyone is sequestered by the police.

I was intrigued by the role of the collection of books in resolving the mystery, and the backdrop of the luxury yacht definitely made for a change of scenery compared to many of the cozy, murder mystery novels I have read.

Sadly I found the main character just lacking. Addie just seemed to luck upon hidden clues, eavesdropping on intensely personal conversations (It seemed unlikely that such sensitive issues would be that easy to listen to) and popping around corners just as.... You get the idea.

Then the interpersonal relationships just seemed a little twisted, eg the police chief was involved in a romantic capacity with no less than three of the key characters at various points of time.

I also really struggled with the story line and how the murder mystery was resolved. So, this one was just not my cup of tea. I'm sure there are others who will enjoy it!

Much like a locked room mystery, this locked on a ship mystery is just as exciting and with all the possible suspects this one might be more than Addie and her pals can take on especially as the lead investigators seem to be having a power struggle. Excellent characters that have been fully brought to life and a town setting that you wish you could really visit make this series a must read series! While I have loved every book in the series this installment has slightly edged into the lead as my favorite so far as the plot moved quickly with lots of twists and turns to broaden the suspect pool continually! I absolutely can not wait now to read what happens to these characters in the next book as lots of life changes happened for them in this book and I am anxious to see how they all play out!

Title: Under The Cover For Murder
Author: Lauren Elliot
.
What would you do if you discovered a dead body on the day of your best friend's wedding? Would you stay as far as possible from it or would you pull a Nancy Drew and look for the killer? Addie Greyborne decides to do some sleuthing when the body of an unfamiliar man washes up on the shore of the wedding venue. However, the situation gets tense when another body of a guest is discovered the very next day. All guests are forced to stay on the yacht so Addie channels her inner Poirot and goes on a hunt for clues.

A locked door type of mystery, this sixth installment in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery promises some exciting and delicious mystery waiting to be solved. "Killer can be anyone, forced to stay inside" mysteries just have a charm of their own. The frightening fact that the killer is within those people doubles the action— the kind that creeps up on you and refuses to leave until the mystery is solved.
This book was an exciting read for me. I mean there were two murders— more the merrier, right? Wrong! Stakes have risen and a dangerous atmosphere permeates. But I have to admit, the edge in the situation makes you feel reckless while you're reading.

Even though there seem to be no direct connections to the mysteries in all the installments, I think it's the one where reading the previous ones introduces you to characters and relationships. I struggled a little on that aspect while reading and found it a little difficult to connect with the characters.
Some moments seemed a little unrealistic, like when Addie eavesdropping to find clues. It seemed as if Addie only got lucky most of the time. And I also found it a little hard to digest how the mystery was solved at the end.
Though the numerous characters (meaning, more suspects~), interconnected relationships, twist, and turns were a plus to the read. It was fun catching up with all of it.
The book ends on a positive note and would recommend it if you're looking for an exciting mystery, a bunch of suspicious characters, and apprehensive sleuthing with a sigh-happy ending.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

There's going to be a wedding, and like most weddings in cozies, the mother (in this case step mother) of the bride completely takes things over and transforms what was supposed to be a small, intimate ceremony into a gigantic extravaganza, on board a gigantic yacht.

A man is found dead, washed ashore, and the sleuth is asked to identify the fragment of a page of a book in his pocket. A long lost character comes back and annoys everybody...then she gets bumped off as well. The police and the sleuth start investigating, and find everybody on the boat has skeletons in their closet.

A well constructed mystery, with almost everything you'd want in a cozy.

I find this to be a very entertaining series. This series has terrific characters and great world-building. Addie, for me, is a very likable protagonist and Ms. Elliott has done a great job with her character development. Addie is surrounded by a diverse and fun secondary cast of characters. At the heart of each story is friendship, family, and of course a side of murder. This time around, the murder occurs on-board a yacht, where Addie's friend Serena is getting married. What I particularly enjoyed about this book is that Marc was not so dismissive of Addie's assistance and even sought it on a few occasions. While I do enjoy that change in his treatment, I think that her relationship with Simon is progressing well and I'd like to see it continue.

The mystery is similar to a locked door type of mystery. There are two murders, one before the wedding and the one that occurs during the reception - where everyone is aboard the yacht. The question becomes are the two murders related and if so how? There is no lack of suspects and the motives are plentiful. Addie does what she does best, which is to listen, ask questions and try to put together the clues to solve the puzzle.

I enjoyed my return visit to Greyharbor and look forward to reading more books in this series. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy provided to me by the author. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I loved this book. This is a great series, and Under the Cover of Murder is an intriguing addition to the series.
When Addie’s best friend gets married, the last thing Addie wants to do is solve a murder; but that’s exactly what she does when two bodies turn up, and everyone aboard the luxurious yacht is a suspect.
I was on pins and needles reading this story because there was so much going on. I was left guessing until the end with this book, which always pleases me.
I’m excited to see what happens next with these fun characters.

Under the Cover of Murder is the sixth book in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery by Lauren Elliott. Beyond the Page Books and Curios is owned by Addie Greyborne, a bibliophile who occasionally helps solve crimes. In this book, Addie is a bridesmaid in her best friend’s wedding set on a yacht. When an unknown man is found washed ashore, and then a wedding guest is killed, Addie is on the case to catch the killer.

I’ve read the previous books in this series, and have enjoyed watching the characters grow. While Under the Cover of Murder can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading this series in order.

I liked the yacht setting for this mystery. It makes it more of a locked room mystery, which is one of my favorite types of mysteries to read. One of the things that makes this series fun is the connection the mysteries have to books. Addie is drawn to help because of her knowledge of books.

Under the Cover of Murder is a delightful cozy mystery. This is a cozy mystery series that I enjoy keeping up with. Good for fans of cozies who enjoy bookish themes set in a small town.

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and this volume didn’t to disappoint. Addie is on a luxury yacht (that sounded like a fancy cruise ship) for her dear friend Serena’s wedding. Unfortunately one of the guests on board didn’t survive to hear about the honeymoon. Everyone still on board the following morning, including Addie, is forced to stay on board while the investigation occurs. Anyone who has read about Addie knows she’d be helping to solve it no matter what but this time she literally didn’t have anything else to do but help solve it! And while she’s there she discovers that their host’s library isn’t what he believed it to be and many of his precious first editions are actually fakes. This book was full of humor, literary references, and a fun mystery with lots of potential suspects. I highly recommend it!

It’s the wedding of the year in Under The Cover Of Murder, or is it the murder of the year? Book enthusiast and shop owner Addie isn’t sure when she ends up being held onboard a yacht after a body is found what to do with her time. She has friends to spend the days with, but it’s the rare book collection the owner has amassed that holds her primary focus, and of course, solving a murder and then a second murder.

Addie is a fun and interesting character; she keeps things exciting and never fails to amuse the reader and entertain. The two main men in her life, Simon and Marc, are questionable. Even when she says that she has made her decision, in the end, has she really? I can see where this romance is going, and I am not sure I will like the way it turns out. Other characters are enjoyable, add depth to the story and help Addie resolve issues, even if it is by accident. I love any setting that involves books, and I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend time than reading and handling rare books, so I envy Addie being cooped up on a luxury yacht with all those old books, real or fake! Even the wedding has an element of intrigue.

There are plenty of suspects, a boatload of them in fact. Each has a different reason for wanting the victim(s) dead; secrets, lies, fraud, relationships, all forms of motive can be found. There are some excellent twists and turns, as well as a few surprises. It tickled me that an Agatha Christie book holds clues to help solve the murders. The description of the wedding, the guests, and the yacht all sound delightful. I did have an issue with Serena allowing her future mother-in-law to ride roughshod over her wedding and her family. No bride worth her salt would allow her future in-laws to dictate their big day, no matter how wealthy they might be.

In the finale, Addie finds the culprit, pretty much by accident, which isn’t uncommon for her way of “investigating.” The detective on the case comes to accept that she can and is helpful at times, even if it is just eavesdropping on conversations at a wedding. Books play a massive part in Under The Cover Of Murder and this makes me happy as a reader and an author. There isn’t a great deal of action; it’s hard to have chase scenes or other activities when your setting is a boat, no matter how big it is, but there is enough to give the book some tense moments. This book has all the elements needed to give readers an enjoyable few hours of escape, and I am happy to see the series continue.

A wedding is taking place on a luxurious and huge yacht in the harbour. Addie is the maid of honour and has to console the bride, Serena, when her future mother-in-law takes over the wedding, inviting her own friends to attend. At the reception, an old enemy of the bride appears, drinking copious amounts of champagne and being loud. The next day her body is found floating in seaweed by the yacht. Addie and two friends set about to investigate.

As this is the sixth book in this series and I haven't read any others, I found the large number of characters difficult to keep in my mind. And all the characters seem to be either former boyfriends or relatives of the main ones. I admit I skimmed over the latter chapters. I did enjoy reading about the yacht - one stateroom has two queensize beds!

Wedding trouble has continued from the last book, as Zach's overbearing stepmother is still interfering in his and Serena's plans, right up to the day of the ceremony. Hours from the alter, maid of honor Addie is called to identify a page torn from a book, found in the pocket of a dead man. When a second body is found the next morning, Addie is sure the two must be connected.

Seems like just yesterday I read the first and it became one of my favorite new series. Now, six books in, I guess it's not exactly "new" anymore but still good as ever.

I like how far Addie and Martha have come in their relationship. Martha has gotten to be a pretty neat character. I also love Paige talking about taking advantage of her mini vacation confined to the yacht. That sounds like a lot of fun, regardless of murder. Also nice to see Paige and Catherine taking such active roles in the investigation.

There's a lot of sneaking around and secrets between everyone on board. Just when you think there can't possibly be any more secrets, another is revealed. I would have liked to see more discovery of actual clues. Much of the investigation revolved around conveniently overheard conversations. This did allow for a lot of red herrings and misdirects.

I would say this is not the book for a new reader to the series to jump into. There's a lot of characters and connections that are well-established by now, and with the addition of this installment's numerous cast, I could see where it might be a bit much to keep track of. Go back, start at the beginning, you'll be glad you did.

I love when you finish a book with a big happy sigh and immediately wonder when the next book will be out. That is exactly what happened to me with Under the Cover of Murder. I started this book when I woke up at 2 am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I thought I would read for a half an hour and be ready to go back to sleep. Ha! I read until I was finished.
I’m not going into the plot because you need to read the book. I’m always afraid I’ll give away something, especially when I loved a story so much. One thing I will mention is it takes place on a yacht. That was so interesting and fun! I did love attending the wedding of Serena and Zach, too. The time with Addie, Paige and Catherine on the yacht was super fun. I did not guess correctly as there was an amazing number of suspects who all had excellent reasons for making the list. My head was spinning! It was so much fun! Put this book on your TBR now so you get notified when it comes out this month. Better yet just go pre-order it.

Under the Cover of Murder is the sixth book in Lauren Elliott's Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. Addie's best friend, Serena, is finally getting married to the love of her life, Zach. The wedding is going to be held on his family's luxurious yacht, currently moored in the town's harbor. Shortly before the wedding, the body of an unidentified man washes up on the beach, the only clue a torn piece of a book in his hand. No one recognizes the man and the wedding proceeds as planned, but the next day, another body is found on the beach. It is one of the guests, uninvited though, and everyone is forced to stay on board the yacht under police guard, until the murderer is found. Addie wants off, so her only choice is to do some sleuthing of her own.

I really like how Addie has changed as this series progressed. She is a very logical, practical, concrete person and really rubbed me the wrong way in the first few books. She could be very abrasive. Perhaps it is the wonderful community, the people she has become friends with or romance, but she has softened and is much more likable. This was a locked door mystery, but there was also the first murder and whether or not it tied in to this one. Everyone at the wedding is a suspect, so there are many to check out. There are so many secrets, drinking, infidelity, lies, thievery and forgery, so lots of motives to sort through. Addie was also dealing with some personal relationship issues and as she is not good at social cues, she was a bit flustered. There were several twists that kept me guessing right to the end. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Pippi. Addie has now taken ownership of this sweet little dog, so I look forward to seeing more of her in the future. A great addition to this series.

Under the Cover of Murder by Lauren Elliott is the 6th book in Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series, and another great addition. Addie Greyborne was a librarian at the Boston Public Library, working with rare books, and is now living in a small town in New England. In this book Addie is busy in her role as maid of honor, for her best friend, Serena's, wedding aboard a luxurious super yacht. The morning after the wedding, the yacht goes into lock down, because of a death. Addie is asked to help Mac with the rare book collection, since some appear to be forgeries. Determined to get to the truth, Abby and her friends start sleuthing. I enjoyed this book/series, with all the twists and turns, and I can not wait for the next book in the series. If you love cozy mysteries, I highly recommend this book.

Seriously? Who in their right mind has a library of rare first edition books on a yacht? A boat in the water? And if the authenticity of said books is called into question, is not actively involved in the investigation? (or at least appearing to ask for updates)

And isn't it illegal for the police to hold a boatload of 50+ people "hostage" for days while they investigate two murders? This series really is not believable. (But I have two more to read before my commitment to review book #8 is fulfilled.)

Over the top! This book has a different setting from the usual books in the series because it takes place on the family yacht of Oliver Zudlow. The yacht is very luxurious! It is the setting for the wedding of Zach Zudlow and Serena Chandler, and all of the usual characters are there as well as many guest characters. The guests have many secrets that kept me VERY interested. After the murder, nobody was allowed to leave the yacht, setting the scene for some very interesting developments. This series keeps getting better and better!

I've read is series from the onset and it keeps getting better. The mystery takes place a most entirely upon a luxurious yacht, the setting for Serena and Zachs wedding. It also contains a lot more than that. Multiple betrayals, forgeries, stealing, lying, and murder. Perfect for Addie to snoop around and assist in the police investigation. I liked the plot and it's nuances, but there were a lot of people to keep track. I wonder about the Marc Addie romance. Seems as though one of them is not quite over the other. Of course I loved the book angle. It's a good read for the cozy mystery addict. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for the advance read.

Under the Cover of Murder
Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery, Book #6
By Lauren Elliott
ISBN 9781496727138
Author Website: laurenelliottauthor(.)com
Brought to you by OBS reviewer Jeanie

Synopsis:

Bookshop owner and maid of honor Addie Greyborne vows to catch the killer who crashed her best friend’s wedding…

It promises to be Greyborne Harbor’s wedding of the year. The impending nuptials of Serena Chandler and Zach Ludlow will take place aboard his family’s luxurious super-yacht, currently moored in the harbor and the talk of the town. But on the day of the wedding, a man’s body washes up on the beach with no ID, only a torn page from a book in his pocket. As owner of Beyond the Page Books and Curios, bibliophile Addie is called in to identify the book, but she cannot.

The morning following the extravagant ceremony, a second body washes ashore and Addie has a sinking feeling that the two deaths are connected. While the guests are held on the yacht as the police investigate, at least Addie can peruse Zach’s father’s rare books library on board. A copy of Agatha Christie’s first Hercule Poirot novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, provides a clue that the killer may still be on the ship—but narrowing down the suspects without becoming the next victim may prove a truly Herculean task. (Goodreads)

Review:

Each mystery in this series gets better than the one before! Under the Cover of Murder drew me in on the first page and held my attention throughout. I love Greyborne Harbor and most of the people there, people who could step out of the pages and into the nearest bookstore or estate sale. The mystery is well-crafted, especially with it beginning on … a wedding day? Wow! Trying to figure out the full scope of the crimes definitely kept me guessing throughout.

Addie is the owner of Beyond the Page, a bookstore and curio shop in Greyborne Harbor. Her best friend, Serena, is marrying Zach, the love of her life. The wedding planning has been fraught with tension. Serena knew exactly what she wanted but Zach’s stepmother Veronica, wealthy and very concerned with impressing her society friends, made many changes to the wedding. She invited society friends from Boston as a surprise and changed the reception venue to Zach’s father’s super yacht with its own staff and crew. There is a library of very collectible books that Addie can’t wait to see. The wedding party has been invited to spend the night on the yacht.

The morning of the wedding, Marc, the police chief and bride’s brother, came to take Addie to the police station. She and Marc had dated for quite a while, but one of the big differences they had is that he wouldn’t let her help him when murders and other serious crimes have occurred. He seems to have broken his own rules as he requests her help. Help to identify the man whose body was found on the beach early that morning. Help to identify the corner of a book page. The man had no cell phone, wallet, or ID on him, just the corner of a page. As a credentialed book expert, Addie knows books, paper, ages, inks, fonts and much more. Because they awaited fingerprint results, she couldn’t feel the paper to even tell what century the book was printed in, and there was no printing on it.

The wedding went beautifully, and the happy couple left as planned for their honeymoon. There was one little glitch. Marc’s childhood sweetheart and former fiancé came to the wedding uninvited and had too much to drink. Lacey had disagreements with many people, including the woman Marc is dating now, Ryley, a former FBI agent and detective in the local PD. It was a great relief to Addie and her friends when the night was over and they could go to their staterooms.

The next morning, Marc and Ryley returned to the yacht. A body was found early that morning, one of the guests, also murdered. Everyone on board the yacht would have to stay there until they could narrow down the suspects.

Addie is certain that the two murders are connected. She went into the library to look at some of the volumes there and saw what at first seemed to be valuable first editions. Instead, they were very good reproductions. She was sure, after talking with Zach’s father and his head of security, that someone has replaced the valuable tomes with well-crafted copies, probably selling the originals. That could also be the motive behind the murder of the man they found the day before.

The characters are memorable; it has been fun to watch them grow and change so far in the series. Addie has changed in many good ways, as has Martha. Getting to know Simon better, and seeing a new side to Marc has been enlightening. Watching the wedding party while restricted to the yacht, most likely with the murderer on board, could have brought out the worst in everyone, but many displayed their strengths. Finding the killer(s) and thief was high on the priority list, so Addie and her friends work towards that end.

The more they learn about what the second murdered person did before and after the wedding, the more suspects there are, including a great red herring. There is enough dirt on some of the people on board the yacht to clog a gossip column, but could those indiscretions point to a thief, much less a killer? While I had not made my short list of bad guys, I wasn’t surprised to learn who was responsible. All loose ends are tied up in the very satisfactory ending to this well-written cozy mystery that I highly recommend!

This is one of my favorite “bookish” series; the author attains a new level of excellence with each novel, including this one. The setting is one of my dream situations; Addie owns a bookstore and gorgeous Victorian home near the ocean. The characters are personable and almost like family. I really like that they learn and grow with each new challenge. The mysteries this time are especially confounding.

It is Serena’s wedding day, and bookseller Addie and their friends are getting last-minute tasks done. The long-time best friends and neighboring business owners have tried to put together the wedding of Serena’s dreams around the changes her future mother-in-law made. Marc, Serena’s brother and Greyborne Harbor’s police chief, came to the bookstore to see Addie. For the first time ever, he wants an assist with a murder, hoping she can ID a body washed up on the beach or the blank corner of a book page. It was “no” on both, but she might keep her ears and eyes open after the wedding. When Marc and Addie dated, one of his biggest irritations was how she got involved with finding the bad guys.

The wedding goes well, the wedding party will spend the night on the yacht owned by Oliver, the groom’s father and commandeered for their wedding and reception by his stepmother. Addie perused the book collection in the climate-controlled library owned by Oliver. At first glance, it looks fabulous! There are many first editions, many fascinating finds. Upon closer look, many are excellent reproductions. As an expert in books of all ages, including paper, glue, and even fonts, she is the most qualified person other than the original appraisers to make determinations.

The next morning Marc and Ryley, his detective and current girlfriend, came aboard with the yacht. Someone who attended the wedding and reception was found murdered this morning. Everybody knew or at least saw the deceased, so nobody could leave the yacht until they get further into the investigation. Addie’s bookstore, Beyond the Page, would just have to be closed for a day or two. She might even be able to help find whodunit – with regards to at least one or both murders and replacing very valuable books with reproductions.

Stuck on a yacht with a killer. While one has all the amenities of a luxury yacht and staff, there could be a price to pay. Addie spends time with Oliver to show him her concerns about the books and explains what she is looking at. His head of security, Felix, begins to examine the purchase records. Most of the original appraisers are known to Addie from her previous career. One name is familiar, so they learn who was behind the faux collectibles. Now they need to learn who has traded them out.

I truly enjoyed this complex mystery, especially with the number of suspects. Addie has good instincts and Marc is finally learning to listen. I so enjoy the regular characters and can see how challenging it was to discover whodunit for each crime. The full resolution held some surprises and some things I had thought might be part of the mix. As in the earlier novels, the author has plotted and executed a most excellent tale. I highly recommend it to fans of well-written cozy mysteries centered around books and murder and set in small oceanside towns.

From a thankful heart: I received a complimentary copy of this novel for which a review was not required.

Under the Cover of Murder by Lauren Elliott is the 6th A Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery. This is not a standalone novel. A new reader will not know the various characters and their relationships. While I enjoy the setting of Greyborne Harbor, you can only have so many murders in one small town. I like that we get a change of venue in this book plus it is a good way to keep all the parties in one place. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the opulent yacht plus the clothing of the wedding party and the fantastic library. The whodunit was interesting with multiple suspects and misdirection. I like how books were incorporated into the whodunit. I was, though, able to identify the killer before the wedding took place (my mother says that I have read too many mysteries). The why took longer to find out. I must admit that I was happy to see the second victim get offed (I found this character to be annoying). Unfortunately, we are still stuck with Addie’s cousin, Kalea. You must extend your disbelief a little with Addie’s investigating. Addie does things she would not get away with in the real world, but it works in the story. I like how Catherine and Paige help Addie with the investigation as well as the murder board. The ladies uncover some surprising information. There is repetition of the case details when Addie shares with friends and police plus with Addie rehashing the information in her head (she gets to reviewing the case details in her head and forgets the world around her). I did not enjoy the amount of romance in the book plus I am not a fan of Addie’s relationship with Simon. Their relationship feels syrupy (best word I can think of to use). I prefer Addie with Marc. They seem to have a better connection. It seems that Marc understands Addie and he definitely cares for her. Readers of the series will enjoy this new addition. Under the Cover of Murder is a cute cozy mystery with wedding woes, shoe suffering, a difficult detective, surprising secrets, luxurious lodgings, and curious clues.

Under the Cover of Murder, the sixth book in Lauren Elliott’s Beyond the Page Bookstore cozy mystery series, is a smart, fun novel that pays homage to Agatha Christie’s locked room mystery trope.

Addie Greyborne’s best friend Serena is getting married aboard her fiance’s family yacht. With such a picturesque setting, what could go wrong? Before the ceremony can occur, a body washes ashore, putting a damper on the festivities. And following the nuptials, a second body, that of one of the wedding guests, is discovered. The police quickly lock down the yacht, forcing the wedding goers to remain in place while the investigation is conducted. Are the murders connected? Addie enlists her friends Catherine and Paige to help her find out.

Surprisingly, in a story centered on a wedding, the nuptials of Serena and Zach are decidedly downplayed. In my opinion, this is a good thing, as that is the only part of the story that drags. The mystery itself is superb, with so many intertwining suspects and clues, that it really keeps you thinking. And with Serena off on her honeymoon, Addie’s reliance on Catherine and Paige was a pleasant surprise. Catherine, especially, brings a fresh and interesting viewpoint to the story.

All told, Under the Cover of Murder is well-crafted, intriguing, puzzle of a mystery that will keep you turning pages until the satisfying conclusion.

Note: I received an ARC of Under the Cover of Murder from NetGalley and Kensington Books. The above is my honest review.

The guests are held onboard as the police investigate the two deaths. Addie assists in the investigation when its uncovered that the rare books in the library are in fact fakes and one book in particular has a ripped page. She is a book expert after all.
