When Merry inherits a bookshop from a grandmother she never knew existed, the last thing she expected was to be transported to another world. But while claiming her inheritance, she accidentally triggers a spell that takes her to Tirana; a world where magic is real, and where her grandmother left behind powerful enemies.
Now those enemies are after Merry, and she has to return home before they catch up with her. With the transportation spell broken, and mages and enforcers on her tail, she flees with her grandmother’s familiar, Sadie. But the black cat can’t save her when she draws the attention of the guild. On the run and searching for a way to remake the spell to take her home, Merry encounters dangers that may prove costly to both worlds.
Merry must learn to wield elemental powers of Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Spirit to have any hope of returning home. If she fails, she will be stuck in Tirana forever, while an ancient enemy may gain the foothold it needs to rid the world of magic for good.

Shelley Russell Nolan

Her first completed manuscript featured brain eating aliens and a butt kicking teenage heroine. Since then she has spent her time creating fantasy worlds where death is only the beginning and even freaks can fall in love.
The first two books in her debut adult urban fantasy series, Lost Reaper and Winged Reaper, were published by Atlas Productions in 2016, with Silver Reaper published in 2017 to complete the series. 2018 saw the release of her Arcane Awakenings Novella Series, and Odyssey Books will be publishing the first book in a new post-apocalyptic series in 2019.
Born in New Zealand, moving to Australia with her family when she was seven, Shelley currently lives in Central Queensland, Australia, with her husband and two young children. They share their home with two wrecking ball kitties, a deformed budgerigar and one pipsqueak of a dog that is fairly normal as dogs go.

I always get a little nervous reading a "Blind Date" story...what if I hate it? Well good news is I didn't.
It's a series though and I'm left hanging with what happens next.
Merry is an interesting character, no idea she has powers until the unexpected happens.
Falling through a portal and landing in another world can't be a good thing and what about the cat Sadie that she can hear in her mind! Sadie has to be Australian, I got her sarcasm immediately. I was anxious for Merry, then thrilled, then scared. What a roller coaster this story is and I'm happy I've discovered a new to me author.

Merry is furious when she discovers her parents kept her from meeting her grandmother, but she can’t fathom why her estranged relation left her a shop in the middle of nowhere. Nor why her grandmother’s lawyer is keen for her to sell it.
When she accidentally discovers a portal to another world, more is revealed than she ever bargained for. Now Merry is caught in an ancient feud with betrayal all around her, but nothing’s more betraying than her heart.

I love the main characters, and I loved Sadie’s droll wit. She makes for an interesting familiar. The final battle where Merry confronts an elemental is a great action sequence.
Fabulous start to a new series which is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. Ms Nolan knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and desperate to turn the pages. I can’t wait for the next book.:)

Spell Struck (Merry Magic Book 1) by Shelley Russell Nolan is an amazing story that I have read. This is book number one in this amazing start to a brand new series written by a brand new author and I can not wait to read the rest of this amazing series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about magic and fantasy.

I really enjoyed this latest book from Shelley Russell Nolan - unexpected magic, a fantasy realm, a cute mage and a cat as a sassy sidekick - what's not to like! It was a really enjoyable read that I finished in one sitting. Can't wait for the next one.

Spell Struck by Shelley Russell Nolan is a book that will have you spellbound! Merry did not know she had a grandmother, let alone that the grandmother was a powerful magical mage. However, her grandmother has passed away and Merry has inherited her book store. While exploring the bookstore, Merry accidentally opens a portal to another world. Now she has to find out how to get back home!
This is a wonderful story, filled with wonder and magic. I found the book hard to put down. The plot and characters are well developed and I was drawn in from the very beginning. This is a book that I received from Quirky Blind Date with an Author and I always review every book that I read. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
