Who is responsible for all the strange events happening on the MacKennas’ 1800s ancestral farm outside North Bend, Nebraska? Could someone have caused the deaths of Haley’s parents? Does the legend of the MacKenna family treasure have anything to do with these events? Haley’s life is complicated by the man whom she’s known all her life. Her brother’s best friend. A grudge against him for something he did in high school has been festering for too long. Can she forgive him? Attention from the new man in town stirs the pot. She wonders if either of them could be responsible for the trouble on the farm. And what about their trusted farmhand, Drago? He’s convinced ghosts from an Indian burial mound that allegedly filled the field behind the farmhouse are to blame. Did the Indians want their land back? Were the legends real? Or were they just good fireside stories her dad used to tell?

My time is spent doing a lot of things I've always wanted to have the time to do, including several hours daily writing stories about people who discover (as I have) that God will only allow those things into your life that will help you grow and/or increase your faith.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
At the age of twelve years old, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and have never been disappointed that I did. He has been with me through trials and tribulations, most of which I brought on myself. Never once have I felt that He deserted me or doesn't love me.
In my writing, I try to bring out the love of God and truth from His Holy Word. I hope that my stories will be a blessing to you.
Treasure in a Field by Sharon K. Connell is a Christian Mystery/Romance novel. Haley grew up hearing the story of buried treasure in the back pasture of the family farm but no one ever found anything. It is also rumored that the pasture was an old Indian burial ground and there have been ghost sightings on a regular basis. Haley returned home from college when a mysterious accident took the lives of both her parents. Her brother and his wife and kid also returned home. Haley would have to stay awhile to take care of the funeral arrangements and continue her education remotely on her computer. It was inevitable that she would run into an old boyfriend who lives on a neighboring farm. But there is a new neighbor on the opposite side of her farm. He is a little too nice and has his eyes on Haley. He also knows of the stories of buried treasure. I won’t tell you if there really is a treasure but the nice guy causes problems. Is the nice guy routine a front? Did he have something to do with Haley’s parent’s deaths? I’ll never tell. This book is well-written and edited. I didn’t find any errors. The story flowed great, there was never a dull moment, and I couldn’t wait to find out how it would all turn out. This kept me turning the pages. I recommend this book highly.
Treasure in a Field by Sharon K. Connell is a family saga – a combination of suspense and romance with a sprinkle of supernatural element. It moves at a steady pace and the mystery of the treasure keeps teasing you till the last moment. The story rests on loving relationships and childhood bonding that has been mired by a deep-rooted, unshared grudge. Would Haley forgive Rob? Would she accept the overtures of her new neighbor Craig? The eternal triangle keeps you humored while you wonder why the investigation into the accidental deaths of Mackennas is sidelined!
Connell’s characters are crafted with immense care and their kind demeanor shines through out the book. Rob knows how to approach his guilt and make amends, Haley’s goodness places her in difficult situations and the affection of her friends is worth emulating. There has to be a villain in such a feel-good story and he stands out with his sinister designs. If you like light-hearted stories with positive-minded people, this is the book for you.
With a combination of tragedy, mystery, suspense, and flourishing romance, “Treasure in a Field” keeps you guessing and caught up in the story all the way through to the last page. Although categorized as Christian fiction, that part of it is rather subtle, providing just enough to remind us of the comforting power of prayer and kindness.
At the heart of the book is a family tale, which skeptical Haley has heard since childhood. An ancestral tale, it seems too unbelievable to convince anyone who knows it, that is, except for a menacing neighbor.
College student Haley returns to her hometown to take over the family farm after her parents’ tragic car accident. Joined by her brother and a cast of friends, strange things continue to occur, putting them all on edge.
I enjoyed the story of returning to one’s roots, to the home they grew up in, and making a new life there. This is a story of close families, great friends, and beautiful land. And maybe even a bit of pirate treasure.
Indian legends, ghosts, pirates, and treasure. Oh, My! A story with old-fashioned charm.
Sharon Connell has created a book with great good guys and a seemly charming yet underhanded bad guy. Treasure in a Field starts on a sad note, including death. Pour yourself a cup of joe before you open the pages to be in-step with this family’s delight in drinking coffee at every turn. You’ll discover wonderful thick woods and farmland filled with horses and an amazing visiting dog that should have first billing.
I’m still scratching my head at how a narcissist would admit to any wrongdoing.
Dust off your ancient vocabulary and step into the present but “back in time” to enjoy this long in descriptions tale, set in Nebraska, on a family farm where a bump in the night might not be what you’d expect. But then again…
Fueled by an irresistible mystery concerning a buried fortune, Treasure in a Field moves along at a great pace. I like the excellent character development and attention to geographical detail Sharon Connell has provided in this story. Woven into the mystery is an ongoing love story, with a bit of family saga, secrets, and all the attendant drama. Throughout the book, Christian values and ethics are displayed and encouraged. Romance and suspense are happily joined in this great family-friendly read. We have read several other wonderful books written by Sharon Connell and encourage others to visit her website and join in the fun.
Once again the Author has taken us on a Fast paced ride. As the book progresses the mystery and suspense increase, by the half way point you don't want to put it down. Actually you are kept in the dark about the legend until at least half way through the book. Spiritual parts are good. The villain was really a villain...There was not one thing about him to like and yet in the end the main characters were compassionate about him and agreed to pray for him...true Christians.
