We thought we had it all. We were two kids, young and desperately in love, dreaming of a future together. Our love burned as bright as the red rock desert where we grew up, but we learned the hard way that sometimes love isn't enough. One choice tore us apart, and we stood by helplessly, watching it burn us to the ground. It feels like a lifetime ago, but when I'm called home to care for my sick mother after ten years away, my past with Owen Miller comes charging into the present. I expected him to be the same kind, confident guy he used to be. What I didn't expect was the fire still raging between us, even after all this time. Years of buried feelings emerge, as scorching as the Arizona sun. Anger, resentment...and passion. And the second time around, we burn even hotter. Giving in to Owen means finally facing the choice I made so long ago, but even old wounds still ache. Is the possibility of a second chance worth the pain it could cause in the end?*A full length second chance romance novel with HEA.

I tried to force myself to finish it because I wanted to see if they authors could change my mind on the impression they made on me from the start. It upset me how shameful they made abortion out to be. 1 in 4 women will have an abortion in their life time and 59% of women who do are mothers. I literally stopped reading for a bit because I couldn't stand how some readers who have had abortions would feel if they read the book about how they are a 'black stain.'. Like how truly awful do you think people are who get abortions? Don't get me wrong, I definitely think people can regret getting abortions, but this book very much lumps every person who have had one into this 'shameful' category that is shameful in and of itself. .

On a side note: the MC makes a big deal about being there for her mom during her cancer treatments, and on the first one, it is too hard to be there so she goes out into town to shop? Literally the page before she does this she feels bad that she hasn't been there for her mom for the first 2 treatments rounds then she turns around and then leaves? I get that she has a phobia of needles, but she knew that going in. I don't think her mom enjoyed the needles anymore than she does, except she can't walk away from it either and could probably use some support during a time like that.

And the level of cognitive dissonance between religion and premarital sex is not surprising.

This book was problematic and did not tackle the difficult topics well at all.

Return to You by Jennifer Millikin and Leia Stone will rip your heart from chapter one. Be prepared for love, loss, laughter and everything in between as you follow Autumn’s return home and her relationship with Owen.

This story is a contemporary second chance romance and beautifully written by this duo, with interchanging POV’s, and a story that will capture you immediately.

Side note: Make sure you have tissues on hand. This story took me a lot longer than I thought it would to finish due to personal connection with the story, but I had to overlook that when rating this story. I definitely ugly cried a lot.

***Actual Rating: 3/5 Slightly Disappointing Stars***

If memory serves, I finished reading, or rather, skimming through this book sometime back in July, 2020, and as much as I didn't want to say this, I didn't like the story at all. :/ Don't get me wrong, one of the authors of this book, Jennifer Millikin, has become my all-time-favorite contemporary romance author ever since I read and LOVED Good On Paper and The Day He Went Away. She was also the main reason I dove right into this book in the first place, well aware that it was actually co-written with another author, Leia Stone, whom I have never heard of or read about.

In a nutshell, the protagonists and their pasts/presents/whatever-happened simply didn't work for me. There was no chemistry between Owen and Autumn. I found it hard to relate to them throughout the book, and there was way too much sex for my liking. I mean, I understood that this was a new adult romance novel and sex was an essential part of the plot BUT since I felt nothing about the characters, all those lustful cravings just fell flat eventually.

To me, Owen and Autumn were drawn to each other a decade later only because of the unfinished business from high school. Granted, a lot had happened in those missing years and they did manage to find the happiness they both deserved in the end, but I guessed the whole story just wasn't my cup of tea.

Besides, I didn't know about you, but I wasn't very familiar with the entire "co-author" thing and I believed that was part of the reason I couldn't bring myself to fully enjoy this book. I really liked Jennifer's writing style (based on the works I've read from her including Beyond the Pale, One Good Thing, and the aforementioned titles), and I was almost positive that I could tell the different narratives in this book apart when reading it. I mean, there were chapters or scenes that I knew (or I thought I knew) weren't written by the same author, if that made sense, and I'd really appreciate more if the entire plot design were more coherent.

Anyways, maybe it was just me not getting the point; hence, I wouldn't stop you from picking this book up since lots of people seemed to enjoy it quite a lot. Also, just because this book wasn't for me, doesn't mean I won't give both authors a try in the future! That being said, I will still read Jennifer's books and maybe give Leia's stories a shot someday. If you decided to read this book, please don't hesitate to let me know what you think! Hope you'll like it more than I did. :)

Omg i just couldn't put this book down from the beginning till the very end for me the story was an emotional roller coaster that required several tissues through out lol

Autumn Cummings had only one true love and that was Owen Miller. They grew up together and were so in love with each other that they'd there future together mapped out.
Autumn and Owen would go to college get there degrees come home marry have a family live happily ever after. However college is were it all changed as life happens when your busy making plans and the only thing they hadn't thought would happen so soon was something that neither of them where even ready for. This turned out to be the breaking point in there relationship and the reason that Autumn never came back home for so long.

Ten years has passed and Autumn is finally coming home although not in a way she ever thought she would shes coming home to look after her mother who has cancer. This isn't her mothers first time but her third the other times her mother had told her to stay in New York however this time is different her mother wants her home and Autumn would do anything for her mother so she rented out her apartment quit her job and got a flight home. There's just one thing she's worried about other than her mothers diagnoses and that is the love of her life is also her mothers doctor so not only will she have to help her mother through her treatment but she will also have to deal with all the emotions that she's locked away for so long and finally talk through her past with Owen so that maybe they can have a future one that they were destined to have all along.

Return To You by Leia Stone and Jennifer Millikin a five-star read that you will return to read over and over. Bring tissues and ignore the world, as this story will envelope you so deeply you won’t know where the story ends, and your life begins. I finished this one and shook myself as I was so wrapped up in Autumn and Owen, but it wasn’t just those two Faith really lived up to her name in my eyes and gave me faith in this story. I do have to say just because you need tissues with this story, don’t think there isn’t lightness and wonder, as it brings it all, I haven’t read any of Leia Stones contemporary work, but I am sure I will be now as its so good, and I hadn’t picked up anything by Jennifer Millikin and that is certainly going to change, as this has warmed me and just grown my heart.

This book took me through a myriad of emotions, it was quite the rollercoaster ride. It was a beautifully written book of not just a second chance love but also how you deal with grief, loss, emotions and relationships with others.
I felt that the storylineand feelings in this book were dealt with very carefully and well structured and written. I enjoyed reading this book and if you are looking for a book that will make you cry but also give you a satisfied feeling at the end then I recommend Return to You. It gets five stars from me.

From the beginning, I could tell this would be an emotional read, but I had no idea it would be SOOOOO incredibly emotional! Leia Stone’s other contemporary romance, Wrecked, kinda... well... wrecked me for a while. But hot darn it doesn’t compare to Return to You! I had to keep reading in bits and pieces because the emotions are soooooo high! I will say that this was pleasantly unpredictable in most ways. Some contemporary romance novels can just be too predictable to be enjoyable, but not this.

The present-tense writing isn’t my top choice when reading a story. A great author or author duo makes you dive into the story without any thought to the actual words or sentence structures; yet I did notice them here and there. There were times where the writing just wasn’t as refined as Stone’s other works, which makes me wonder how well these two authors meshed but it wasn’t enough to make me put the book down. The other main thing that was hard for me was the fact that none of the main characters can catch a break. Not once. Not even when they go to Las Vegas for a spur of a moment trip. They have every chance to win a little money to make the rest of their situation a little brighter, but the writers just don’t. It’s like they make a point to not give the reader (or the characters) perfect happiness. I understand it, but it’s still daunting to know that almost everything is against you. Yes, there is a happy ending, but without any sunshine along the way, it makes for a bittersweet journey.

In the end, it was a good book, and definitely tugged the heart strings. Though it made me bawl like a baby, several times in fact, I don’t regret reading it, and will recommend it.

Raw, Honest, Romantic, Painful But Always Hopeful!!😢💔💘🙏🔥
A Wonderful Book.😍🌟
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Return To You

I was swept up in this two arc story. One is about Autumn's Mum Faith, she is battling cancer for the third time. Their journey together, how she feels guilty for not returning the two times before & trying to everything she can go help but is always steps behind in her knowledge!💔 ,
The second arc is regards Faith's Oncologist, Dr Owen Miller. He was Autumn's high school sweetheart, her 'first' everything!💘 But life threw them a huge curveball just before college, which they got through, until Owen got drunk & lost the plot verbally at Autumn, in his grief!!😭 She ghosted him & now it's ten years later!!😳 There's anger, resentment & so much hurt but also clearly still chemistry and possibly more. They'd need to move forward from their pasts to gain a future but is it possible for them?🙏

This was beautifully written, you'd never know it was a duo of Authors, it's seamless!😍 Sedona, where it's set, is brought to gorgeous & vivid life. The emotions are dealt with so reverently & each one just enough, nothing is over played!🙏💝 I can't recommend this read highly enough.🌟

A story about love and loss and acceptance

I am not new to reading leia stones work but this is a different kind of read from her normal work. The storyline was heart breaking from beginning to end the regrets at the beginning makes it so heart breaking you feel sad about it the whole time.there is humour to a little. But the choice they made at 18 the loss and poor faith what she could of been there for what could of been is heart breaking.I am not sure if this is just very well delivered as you take the journey and feel there pain and loss of if it is because I lost my mother to cancer and had a similar journey with my mother (just wish I had a Owen to) this is a must read I sob my heart out.
The only negativity I would say is I think ace should of been in it more and I think it would of been great if faith left a letter for them both and found out about her secret love more why would he not tell them? This could of been a series if ace was in it more his story could of been next and we could of seen the wedding I thought faith was going to ask them to marry in vegas?
Great read one of my top favourite books for emotionally deep.

Heartbreaking HEA

This book is a telling of a re-kindled love through sad events, an emotional story that will hit all too close to home for some people.
We are introduced to the M FC, Autumn, on her way back home to take care of her mother during her third battle with cancer. We learn that she is harboring guilt, which she considers a "stain." Autumn is reconnected with her ex, Owen, because he is her moms doctor, and there is so much emotion going through both of them during their initial meeting. There are so many things both want to say but won't, and so many feelings held onto from the past that are holding them back.
We follow Autumn and Owen during their journey of finding their way back to one another while both are struggling with the health of their parents of different varieties. Through all the pain and heartbreak, these two manage to begin another relationship that is successful thus time around.
If you are going to read, get your tissues ready because you can't have all joy without the pain, and this book is a true testament to that.

Beautiful... Bittersweet

Return to you is standalone contemporary romance written by Leia Stone and Jennifer Millikin. It is a wonderful collaboration that is beautifully written and I could tell right away that this story was going to rip out my heart and tear it to shreds before It was over. I WAS NOT wrong. Be prepared... This is a tear jerker. I shed more than a few tears and had to put my Kindle down and walk away several times. This book was a hard one for me to get through because it hit very close to home. The pain pouring off of these pages is all to familiar. That said, Return to You was a wonderful story. It was, in my opinion, the best kind of love story, a second chance romance. Owen was loyal and steadfast (and just a little broken). Autumn was just the right mixture of broken and beautiful, with enough sass to make her endearing, not obnoxious. Overall, a fantastic read.

Heartbreakingly beautiful story!

This is truly a very heartbreaking and beautiful story of loss and second chances. It is the type of story that will captivate you right from the first page and keep you entertained right to that bittersweet ending.

These two amazing authors take us on extremely emotional journey of loss, love, forgiveness and hope. The emotional topics that is discussed throughout will make you laugh and cry. The characters are genuine, loveable and very relatable. I felt their pain deep in my heart. I hurt with them and I laughed with them. I cried many tears while reading this story.

Be ready for this emotional rollercoaster ride as it will leave you aching for more stories just like it.

This is definitely a story I will read over and over again as it really left an impression on me. Highly recommend!

Loved it

Ex boyfriends are supposed to get fat and bald, not become hot doctors like Autumn's ex Owen did. But when Autumn comes home to help her mom she finds that her ex is her mom's doctor. I absolutely loved this story of second chance love. The background for this couple was rich and complex and heartbreaking and so real. The characters were mid to late 20s and were easily relatable. There was so much history between Owen and Autumn and they were able to work through it in a realistic way. Plus, Autumn was able to rediscover who her mom is as an adult and create an even more beautiful relationship with her. This book will gut you. Prepare for tears and sadness and joy and heat and everything in between. Dont miss out!

Return To You, I absolutely loved reading this book. Can I just say it was emotionally wrecking and healing yet all at the same time?

I can't imagine going through what Auttum went through with her mom. It was heartbreaking. I relate to having a family member go through the same struggle, but it wasn't the same as what Auttum had to go through.

I love Owen, I love the playful banter between him and Auttum. I like that they can still joke around. I loved the parts that made me laugh, shed a couple of tears, and full-on binge eat. The setting was easy to picture, and the characters were easy to relate to.

I highly recommend Return to you, I loved it.
This book is geared for 18+ readers as there is some steam but also some content that may not be suitable for some readers.

I love that Leia is breaking out into more contemporary stories. I already loved her work but I was so immersed in Wrecked that I knew her continuing to write contemporary romance would be sensational. I really enjoyed this second chance romance. I was not expecting so many tears (I just had finished 2 tear-jerking books by Ivy Fox) so I was already in the right mindset hahaha. So much crying in one week.

I will say there were times you could kinda of see the meshing between the 2 writers wasn't 100% clean, but that is my only critique for this book. Great job, cannot wait for more cowrites hopefully in our future ❤️

An Emotional Read

On more than one level this story was both heartbreaking and redemptive. In a lot of ways very much like life itself, the good and bad, happy and sad, and our pasts and present all tumble together without giving us a chance to catch our breath. The love of a mother for both her child by birth and child by choice was beautiful.

Would have loved to know how things worked out for Owen’s dad. I also think maybe Ace has a story that might need to be told, any man who is that good of a friend and was so invested in a young love of his own that he can’t bear to love again deserves a HEA of his own.

Be prepared and have a box of Kleenex nearby. The authors did a fabulous job, at least for me to feel for Autumn. I was interested in the storyline and what happened between Autumn and Owen. Several lines in this book made me laugh. I enjoyed reading the inner monologue. It was hilarious.
This is a second chance at love and while it does have some sad moments I enjoyed it. Gosh, that ending...Such a bittersweet ending. I must say that I enjoyed Autumn’s friendship with Livvie. Marzipan, I think I will begin using that word. Marzipan...pick up the book to find out!

Oh wow this book! I felt the pain, I laughed, I cried and I smiled like a big idiot. I really loved this book. I loved all the characters, they were all so real it made you feel like you were one of them going through all the ups and downs. I loved the ending, it was perfect. There were some parts of the book that just hit me to my core and made me realize some things about myself, so for that I thank these amazing authors. I would love to see another book where Ace finally has to pay up.

Autumn and Owen’s story is a classic test of time. High school sweethearts torn apart at 18 because of a decision made and feelings shattered. Autumn moves home from New York when her mothers has to battle cancer for the third time. I friend during this story. Autumn dealing with knowing she will lose her mother. Owen trying to save her mother. But don’t worry, even though it is an emotional rollercoaster, it’s definitely a happy ending. I absolutely love this story.

Sometime you have to visit the past to move into the future

Going home as an adult can be a real challenge, having to face your past and all regrets that might be hiding there. But Autumn has been holding on to the pain of the past for too long. Prepare to be transported into this book. The way this story is told you feel like you are the characters. Tissues will be needed but don't worry there are lots of great laughs along the way.

Heart wrenching

Autumn and He Who Shall Not Be Named make a hard decision for any couple, let alone teenagers. That decision follows them into adulthood. Autumn gives up her dream job and life to come home and take care of her ailing mother. Unbeknownst to her, Owen has been there for her mom for a long time, and has a great relationship with her. There are laughs and tears and heart wrenching sobs. Have a box of tissues ready, you’re going to need the whole thing.

Sometimes happily ever after comes true

Such a sweet and sad story. Autumn and Owen pulled apart by their younger self decisions then to be brought back together by sad circumstances to face their fears and take a chance. Was a lovely story that will make you smile, laugh, and cry for both happy and sad reasons. Makes you feel good and have faith that there are still happily ever afters still in the world.

Sweet romance

A little heartache and a lot of love. This is a second chance romance after ten long years of mixed feelings of hate, regret, longing and fear. Owen and Autumn were high school sweethearts that unraveled due to choices they both made just as college was looming. Autumn has spent ten years trying to avoid Owen like the plague and Owen has spent the last ten years regretting words he can’t take back. A fairly pg romance with a bittersweet ending.

This book was all kinds of emotional. I wasn’t sure whether I hated or loved it for a while. There were a few times I had that desire to throw it against a wall, but I pushed through. And I’m so glad I did.
The story was so confronting, not just from a mortality point of view, but also accepting the human condition. We are, all of us, imperfect. Though it can be so hard to admit, we don’t always do the right thing in the moment. And sometimes forgiving someone else, means having to admit our own fault and forgiving ourselves. It’s easier to hold a grudge. I have been super guilty of this many times. So many parts of this book made me reflect on my own life.
I swung between wanting to yell at the characters, and empathising with them. I had to actually stop twice and take a 12 hour break, because I felt like I might explode with frustration and anger. But by the end, I had cried cathartic tears, forgiven everyone, and felt consoled by the ending. The sweetness and compassion.
So yes, this was a confronting, hard read; but I feel better for having read it. To me, any book that doesn’t take the easy road just to keep readers happy, and really says something to make you think, deserves 5 stars.

Heartfelt and an emotional rollercoaster

This book has pretty much anything a person could want in a great book. It pulls you in and has love, loss, hate, regrets, and redemptions in it. I will warn you that it does have a few triggers but its well worth it to get through this story. It makes you cry tears of sadness and happiness. I couldn't put it down. It's a must read.
