Bad for Me #2

Bad Intentions

Rate this book

The marriage might not be real, but there'll be nothing fake about the wedding night...

Moving from Canada to Arkansas with a temporary work permit gave me the safe haven I needed.

But I've lost the job I've had for a year, and I can’t go back and face the mess or the man I left behind.

Then my landlady suggests the unthinkable.

Marry a US citizen so I can get my green card faster.

She even thinks she’s found the right man for the job.

Eric Carlyle.

The insanely sexy bad boy ex-con living in the basement apartment of our building.

It’s beyond crazy to ask him to give up the next few years of his life for a stranger.

Even crazier to consider marrying a man with such a bad reputation.

But when I get a phone call from Immigration Services, in a moment of sheer panic, I tell them I’m engaged.

So, I show up at Eric’s front door in tears, and he surprises me by agreeing to a sham marriage.

He needs to fix his reputation and he says marrying a sweet and innocent school teacher like me will do that.

But he has conditions.

He wants to live in my apartment and he wants to share my bed.

He says it's just for show, that Immigration will catch us out if we don't.

But the more time we spend together, the less sure I am his intentions are honorable...

Adeline Walker had to turn down the job she was to get and, with the messy situation she left behind after finding her boyfriend in bed with her best friend Stacy, she heads for the U.S. and a teaching job. When they don’t renew her contract at the end of the year, she will need a green card if she wants to stay in the U.S. Eric Carlyle, the bad boy ex-con, needs to start over and clean up his life; having served his sentence, he needs to be forgiven and accepted in the community. So their Scottish landlady Fiona suggests the two of them get married for a couple of years so Adeline can get her green card and Eric can hopefully get the town’s support and acceptance when they see he is married to a sweet and innocent former school teacher. But Adeline knows she couldn’t do that! She is not a good liar. Until U.S. Immigration Service calls and she panics, telling them she is engaged to an American citizen! She just can’t face going home again, not to what she left behind, not to her mother’s delight that her ex-fiancé Jacob wants her back!

Eric is agreeable to the plan, but he has some conditions. They move in together, she gets his job back for him at the supermarket, and she sleeps in the bed with him. Instead of getting him back in at the supermarket where they lied to get him fired, she gets him a job on a ranch. And he finds out that her teacher contract wasn’t renewed because her ex gave a donation but only if they got rid of her so she was forced to return to Canada. The two of them started off as total opposites, could this possibly work for them? And with their sizzling chemistry, growing respect for each other, and having the time to really see the good in each other, could their marriage become real and their affection turn to love?

This book is fantastic! A wonderful story about second chances and finding love in the most unexpected of places. Adeline has come to Arkansas from Canada to be a schoolteacher and get away from her cheating ex fiance, Jacob. But when her job is eliminated due to downsizing, she's faced with being sent back to Canada when she can't find another job. This is when her landlady and friend Fiona steps in and offers her a solution. Eric is on parole and needs a job. When he is unjustly fired, he is sure he'll be sent back to the halfway house. But in walks Adeline with a proposition. After her talk with Fiona, she asks him to be her husband so she can stay in the states. He agrees if she will get him his job back. She goes to do just that but finds that he's being bashed by some of the employees and she comes up with another job that is better for Eric. As the two prepare for their interview with Immigration, Adeline starts to wish it was real. Eric too is finding that he is feeling something for her. They end up getting married and have a wonderful weekend together until a discussion about kids and a man from Eric's past, sent by his father will throw a wrench into things. In the end, Adeline decides to head back to Canada, wanting to take Eric with her, expressing her love for him in the process.

Adeline caught her fiancé having sex with her best friend two weeks before the wedding. Adeline found a school teacher job in a small Arkansas town and left Canada behind. Unfortunately she is suddenly laid off. Without the job that sponsors her visa, she is facing deportation. Her landlord suggests her marry a US Citizen, then she can have her green card to stay and even finds a candidate living in the apartment’s basement. Eric is an ex-con and dealing with prejudice everyday. When Adeline asks him for help, he asks her to find him a job first. These two muddle along, get to know each other, find chemistry, and get married. But the fake marriage turns in to more along the way. They find what they really want in life. A little bit of suspense and a lot of love in the story. Adeline is a determined lady and gets things done. Even though she is confused and hesitant, eventually she gets strong. Eric is a hard worker. He is steady fast and never fails for Adeline. A cute couple.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this quick story about Adeline and Eric. Adeline is in Arkansas after her fiance, in Canada, cheated on her with her best friend. She needed a new start with a new job. When unexpectedly she loses her job, she finds out her work visa will expire sooner. Desperate to not go back home, she's trying to find a new job. That's when Fiona suggests she ask Eric, her neighbor downstairs, for help. Eric is an ex con who is trying to restart his life. But people judge him because is good tattoos and history. So when Adeline suggests her plan, he agrees to help her out. But as they get closer real feelings start to develop. When his past drops a present, they both have to rethink things. Great beginnings of a HEA.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Adeline left her home and moved to the US to begin again because her life had fallen apart. Eric is an ex-con who has paid for his crime and just needs a new start. These two come together in an unlikely way thanks to their landlady. They have to decide to trust someone with their future. Not only could they save each other right now, but they never realized that they had found their other half. I thought the storyline was well written. The characters have great chemistry and you feel all their emotions. This was a short story but packed a big emotional punch. I look forward to the next book from Lexi

Adeline needs a green card to stay in the USA. Eric needs a new beginning. He's served his time for his crime and just wants to start over. Although that's hard to do in a small town. Everyone judges him. When Adeline's landlady suggests they marry to get Adeline's green card, Adeline is shocked! There is no way she could do that! She's a horrible liar! When she becomes desperate to escape going home to the nightmare she left, the idea doesn't seem so crazy. These two are complete opposites, but that seems to work for them. Their chemistry is off the hook! Very delightful story with a great ending!

Adeline has lost her job and will be likely be deported soon if she can't find another job or another way to stay in America. Eric has been to jail but is out on parole living in a small town with people that aren't happy about him being close. After he loses his job Adeline presents him with an opportunity that he absolutely can't turn down. Of course it helps that she's cute and sassy and he'll be more than happy to spend time with her. But what will happen when fake becomes reality? This is definitely a book that you don't want to miss.

This is the story of Adeline and Eric. She’s in the US working as a teacher but when they don’t renew her contract immigration is about to deport her back to Canada. Eric wants to clean up his reputation in the small town. So their landlady suggests they get married for a few years so Adeline can get her green card and Eric’s reputation will improve being married to a sweet schoolteacher. They agree to this but Eric has a few conditions of his own. What happens when they live together and share a bed? I enjoyed this sweet, endearing romance with its unexpected twists. Excellent romance
4.5
Good story between two strangers with complex pasts: Adeline, who ran away from her family and her ex and who needs a green card to stay in the United States, and Eric, a criminal on probation, who has to stay clean.
Still, he decides to agree to help Adeline, which brings them together, despite the severe penalties they risk.
The story is very well written, tender, a little warm. I really liked these two characters who are touching, but not boring. (even if sometimes Adeline seems to lack courage in front of her mother)

The author has given us characters we can care about. Adeline is let go from her job and finds out that her visa will expire unless she gets another job immediately. Eric, ex-con on parole, loses his job because of small minded people and must find a job or end up back in prison. When she asks him to marry her so she can stay in the country, he agrees as long as she can help get his job back. Neither one has any idea how much their lives are about to change with this one decision.

OMG! I was hooked from the moment I started reading this story. I am so in love with this couple, Adeline and Eric, and their fake relationship/marriage. They are really good together!
I loved the way they had to get to know each other, had to learn every single detail of each other’s lives, because of the Green Card interview. Which they both needed for different reasons. And how their feelings developed. Loved the ending! 🥰 Loved this book!

I received an arc of this book and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This was again a great story by Lexi.
You know you’re in for a treat when she releases a new book!
This is no other.
A great story between Eric and Adeline.
She is a naive teacher who loses her job and in order to get a green card she needs another job or get married to a US citizen.
She opts the latter, enter Eric an ex-con.
They are so different from each other but it works for them, they are so sweet together.
This is a great read!

Adeline is a Canadian and living in the US on a work visa but then loses her job. Eric is an ex-con who just lost his job and is trying to stay out of trouble. Adeline proposes marriage as a way to get her green card and agrees to help him find a job. He tells her they have to live and sleep together to make it look real for immigration. Adeline agrees because she is attracted to Eric and is desperate. Lots of bumps to this couples HEA.

Adeline is in a bind and she needs a husband fast, she is desperate. Enough to ask her neighbour Eric.
The friction, action and the dynamic between Adeline and Eric was slow to start, but eventually they work it out. I really liked the way they were with each other, even from the start. The author Lexi pours magic on the page, making the reader feel along with the characters. I enjoy her books and this one was no different.

Great book about a woman from Canada who moves to US as a teacher but has an ex-fiancé that has her let go so she will go bad home to him. Adeline has other ideas and her landlord suggests she get a green card by marrying Eric another tenant. Adeline isn’t sure at first but goes to talk to Eric and they hit it off. It starts out as a fake marriage for show but turns into much more for both of them. Great story and great author.

Very Entertaining

Bad Intentions is the second book in the Bad For Me series and is a about Adeline Walker and Eric Carlyle. I really enjoyed this book as it is well written, has a fun story-line that has a bit of drama, some LOL moments, and a lot of passionate chemistry. The characters are both really likeable, with their situations believable, and their landlady is great. This story is a real charmer.
I liked this book so much that I bought a copy to add to my growing library of Lexi Hart books.

What may have started with good intentions and not entirely true purpose has turned into the best idea and a truth neither expected.

Helping out a neighbor to avoid going back to Canada has awakened a new need for love and showing that you may think you're faking but as the curtain gets drawn and you start opening up, you're welcoming a new life and purpose to two people that deserve a 2nd chance.

Marriage to get a Greencard. The attraction between Eric and Adeline jumped off the pages. The raucous, side-splitting laughter regarding the paint on a fence had me telling those I crossed paths with in the day.
Lexi Hart has surpassed any of her books so far. No question, a one click author. My breath is gone - the best book from Lexi Hart yet, and I love all her books.

Dark and Gritty!
I have really enjoyed reading this book, the author did such a great job developing the characters, that I feel like I really know them, and not just the major characters, but the minor ones too.

Also, it caused me to lose quite a bit of sleep while I was reading it, because it was so hard to put down at night.

This story stems from believable situations—losing your job, small-minded people, and willing to do anything for a chance at happiness. The author weaves all this together in a bad boy/good girl love story that makes you believe that if you have love—no matter how it starts—you can find your HEA.

I did enjoy this, it was an easy quick read with a few unexpected twists. I would have enjoyed this more had it been a bit longer and made more of Eric's past and his relationship to his father and also Adeline's ex fiance. For me these were key to whole story and how both Eric and Adeline ended up where they were and so would have liked these to have been developed more.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were described very well, and the book was very well laid out. I really enjoyed the huge differences between the main characters. This provided for some serious comic relief at times. Would read another book by this author!
