Stop dreaming of great returns and start achieving them.
Deep down, you know that sticking your money in a bank account or mutual fund won't get you in the fast lane to prosperity, but you're not sure where to turn.
If you're serious about growing your wealth quickly, you need a book that teaches time-tested strategies that will help to greatly accelerate your wealth creation.
The Tao of Trading is that book.
In his twenty-five years as a banker, adviser, and player in the markets, Simon Ree has witnessed firsthand the many hurdles individual investors must overcome to succeed. He wrote this book to put you on the fast-track to financial success.
In this book, you'll learn:
How to instantly read market trends so you're "sailing with the wind at your back" The most powerful tool in finance for building your wealth AND managing your risk How to generate consistent cash flow from the stock market Simple to learn techniques that will have you trading the markets like a pro And much more
This is the resource you need to prosper whether markets are rising, falling...or crashing!
I’ve read quite a few books on options and would have to say Simon does a great job of keeping simple and enjoyable to read. He uses terms which stray away from market norms and makes does his utmost to create distinction between a trader and investor which in turn helps the reader remind him/herself about what they are about to embark on. Good read for any level of trader.
I had long been intimidated by the trading sphere, having been a lifelong educator and believing I couldn't possibly venture into this industry; but I had taken an options academy course with the author and have built the confidence to earn a second income- a feat I once saw as risky and unimaginable has become manageable to navigate. If you're completely new to trade and are uncertain about investing in his online course, read this first to get a headstart before venturing into his course offerings.
The grumpus23 (23-word commentary) I hadn't realized this was primarily about options trading. I still don't get it. Author does share specific trade set ups for consideration.
Absolutely terrible book. I beg you with tears in my eyes, please do not follow this man's advice. I am a quantitative analyst (a "quant") at a multinational investment bank, so I know a thing or two about how trading works, and I can definitively say that this is NOT how to make money doing so.
Looney tune chapters such as "trend following", "stochastic oscillators", and "death cross" epitomize the idiocy of the entire book. These are all made up terms to try and sound smart, but they are entirely made up. Not a single quant/trader on Wall Street uses this shit, which is exactly the argument he tries to make in the book - that he has a secret method that traders don't have. Bullshit.
If in fact the author really did make as much money as he claims (and isn't outright lying), his profits are purely a result of well-timed luck not skill whatsoever. Notice in Chapter 1 that he never says he was a trader - he was a dealer (merely taking orders from people and executing them in an exchange - a monkey could do this), an advisor (a terrifying thought), a banker (a person at a branch who opens up a savings bond for little Timmy's college tuition), and a "player" (uses his own money).
It is infuriating to see so many snake oil salesman publishing dogshit books to try and decieve everyday people on making a quick buck. If you have a good handle on math and statistics then read Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives by John Hull. This is ACTUALLY what will teach you how to properly hedge your positions and trade options, and is generally considered the trading bible on Wall Street. Although, if you are not comfortable with fairly complex math equations, then stay very far away from options.
If you are not a numbers person, just invest your money into an S&P index fund every month and you'll be fine, I promise.
Again, this review is coming from someone who is actually in the sauce every day on Wall Street.
So many people speak from theory. But speaking from practice and experience rather than study is very different. Like learning to sail from reading a book, versus learning to sail from years on the water.
That is why this book stands out to me. Easy to read. Demystifying market jargon. Serious but light-hearted. But at its core practical and based on experience.
The Tao of Trading is an impressive read. I was in the financial industry for 13 years and I have never read an options trading book written in such an easy to understand manner. Writing about options is not straightforward, and learning it is another level altogether, but the author has been able to relate options trading to real-life scenarios, making it easily digestible. A must read for anyone keen in understanding the ins and outs of the financial industry and how to make money from his strategies. No prior experience in trading is required, i highly recommend it!
I'm new to trading and happy that I came across this book. Simon explains market trend and different trading techniques in simple ways making it easy for readers to understand. He talks about trading psychology and teaches you how to set up your trades. His passion for trading is shown in his writing style, it's a very entertaining read. Great tips that I'm taking away to implement in my trading portfolio!
I have always had a fear of options trading, thinking it's too complex for a layman to understand. Absolutely love this book as it's easy for someone with no experience in options trading (like me!) to understand and learn about the industry and trading techniques. The release of The Tao of Trading is specially timely and helpful in the current economic climate where many of my contacts are losing their primary income stream.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Engaging and easy to follow. Simon does a fantastic job of distilling what he knows in a straightforward manner. I have read it twice now and will be reading it again which is the best way to learn for something I’m interested in. I’m sure I’ll keep reading it over and over again to help me in my trading journey.
There are some sound concepts within the book but it misleads the uneducated around options trading and over-promotes it in my opinion. Options trading isn't all sunshine and roses.
Overall this book was informative, enjoyable, and easy to comprehend. Great for beginner traders like myself as it focuses more on concepts and developing the mindset than it does advanced technical analysis. Only 1 trade setup and around a half dozen indicators are discussed, which I think serves as a good starting point for aspiring traders. My main gripe with this book however, is this sheer number of mistakes - whether that be grammatical errors or incorrect calculations - they can be found in every chapter. It's almost as if the author didn't proofread at all. Thankfully, I don't think these mistakes inhibited my comprehension (if anything, they enhanced it), but I still think they should be addressed, perhaps in a second edition.
Pays for itself! After reading all the concepts in this book I was able to execute momentum option trades and add 2.75% to my portfolios NLV in the first week.
All technical indicators are plainly explained so beginner traders can follow. In addition technical analysis and studies are weaved into a cohesive strategy to trade trends with high probability of success. There’s even a list of all you need to plug into your scanner to weed potential trades.
There’s also emphasis on the mental state of mind and accepting 100% responsibility for everything that happens while you trade. Without this it’s very difficult to be consistent or successful.

This book is about stocks trading, and mainly using options.
The book gives you the main ideas you need to consider when being a trader. Mainly manage your risk. Manage your mind. Stick to your plan. Study. Stick to your plan.
It also gives you an opinionated framework: use options, trade with the trend. Bounce2.
I'm not sure if the framework will work (I will probably start with paper trading before puting any capital).
But the ideas are relevant even as a "value investor" (the author shows why he doesn't agree with investing as opposed to trading).
Excellent Book but I wish Simon offered 1 more thing
I’ve read many books on the subject and this is one of the better ones. I highly recommend it however there is one more thing I wish Simon and all authors offered which is a matrix of actual returns in an account dedicated to the strategy. This would be month-by-month of returns for 5 or 10 years with brokerage statement PDFs available for download to back it up. Of course sensitive data on the statements would be blanked out. So how about it Simon!
I've traded Naked Puts nearly as long as Simon has traded, and in everything from chart interpretation to risk analysis our techniques match. Many things I agree with and some (such as chart analysis), we go out separate ways. We are even influenced by similar authors(Alexander Elder is my favorite). With so many similarities, I now feel the need to re-read this book and understand our differences. Great book Simon.
This book is on a topic that many people find hard to understand and unachievable, but Simon Ree is able to explain and educate so many people in a way that makes sense and shows how easy it really is for anyone to do it. Although many people find it risky this book makes it manageable to achieve. If you are looking to learn and start trading this is a great place to start.
Comprehensive Crash Course for Robinhood era Retail investors
Loved the book with all the detailed knowledge and strategies that aren’t easily available to retail investors in recent times. Trove of great rules, processes, and strategies to think and act maturely in the market to grow faster but safer. Book is worth much more than its price in that regard.
A great book to start option trading. Simon is able to break down complex concepts and make them digestable to a reader who hasn't played around with options yet. Risk management is key!
I will revisit this book frequently for tips, I bought a Kindle version, but I think I paper one could be more practical for day-to-day use.
Just finished Simon's book, and let me say that it is one of, if not, the best book on trading out there. He explains concepts in a way that anyone can understand. I started my trading journey around 4 years ago and I made "OK" money but this propelled my edge 10-fold. Read it. Absorb it. Do it. You won't be disappointed.
Great book on trading and trading psychology. Simon has revealed easy way to do positional trading system using options and pullback method to enter without Fomo and get good profits. Chapters on psychology are valuable addition.
Overall it’s a well described system to start your journey with options trading. First part of the book is super basic and repeats the same statements multiple times.
Interesting book that outlined the analytical approach to trend trading. The focus is a technical analysis coupled with options trading. Assumes an intermediate level of expertise with technical indicators and associated calculations.
Good book to start or revisit to keep trading simple
I would suggest trading in the zone and Tao of trading must read for trading beginners. Tao of trading is good introduction for option trading, risk management and technical analysis.
Don’t be too critical, just listen and absorb. It’s not the best, but it’s money well spent for anyone that knows how to trade but isn’t very consistent.
Took me about 1.5 hours to read the whole book. It's serious advice, principally sound. However, it greatly simplifies option trading at a time, when people are trading more options than they are actual shares for the first time ever (source: Goldman Sachs). So be cautious!
