A well known TV chef who starts her own catering company is given custody of her 10 year old niece and has her life threatened. Interesting story, but I felt the niece was too mature for her age. This one brought in a jealous potential sister-in-law along with a former sous chef who didn’t get her own cooking show. Dani’s life was in danger. The premise was good and was a quick read.

Murder at the St. Regis: A Chef Dani Rosetti Cozy Mystery, is the first in a new series by USA Today Bestselling Author Dianne Harman.

Dani was the star of a highly rated cooking show for eight years, but now she’s ready to quit after a fan tried to kill her. She’s planning on running a new catering company, but life’s complications get in the way when her estranged brother dies of a heart attack, Bruno had been responsible for the death of their parents while piloting their plane while drunk years earlier.

Since Dani is the only living relative, Bruno’s ten-year-old daughter Anna is sent to live with her, and that’s when trouble begins. Someone is trying to kill Dani, and in the process Anna is inadvertently poisoned from candy left for Dani.

Someone wants Dani dead and she doesn’t know why. And when a nanny is hired for Anna, Dani along with a killer guard dog name Kiku and her bodyguard Arthur Martinez, a security firm owner who’s going to be Dani’s sous chef in her catering venture, start eliminating suspects when Dani’s car explodes and an innocent victim is killed.

Well-developed characters with an intriguing plot (and maybe even a hint of future romance?) make this a must-read story that should prove to be a fantastic addition to all the other excellent series books written by this fabulous author!!

I give it five stars!!

This is the first in a brand new series by Dianne Harman! If this first in series is any indication it promises to be a winner!!

Dani Rosetti is truly happy with her life--she is single and has no plans to get married-ever! She has been the chef on a very popular TV cooking show but has decided to start a VIP catering service so she can travel to places she has always wanted to and still be a chef!

She has a brother who she doesn't speak to. Then she got a call that her brother died and left behind a little girl--a niece Dani never kbew she had--and he left instructions that Dani was to be named guardian! As you can imagine Dani is frantic but dhe decides to abide by his wishes.

Her body guard and her soon to be Sou Chef and Dani go to get the little girl at the airport. Once they get home and get settled things start to happen---

I really want you to read this one--you will love it. Lots of twists and turns as they try to discover who is trying to kill Dani who is an independent female who won't give up her independence but does take in a little girl and forms a family!!

I really enjoyed this book. I have listened to a few Chef Dani Rosetti mysteries and it was great to go back to the beginning and discover how it all began. With this book being the first in the series you learn a little bit more about the characters and there relationships with each other, so the book is more focused on them. Not to say that there isn't a good mystery woven into the story because there was and again the author had me guessing who the killer was. It is the characters that I really like especially the grown up Anna who has gone through so much at a young age, I didn't need tissues but it certainly tugs at the heart. A heart warming cozy mystery.
Dani is happy with her life until an unexpected phone call sends it spinning. Over night she suddenly becomes a single mum to her 10 year old niece who she knew nothing about. She blamed her brother for the death of her parents and not wanting to Have anything to do with him ran off to join a culinary school and become a world famous chef. Years later she is making it on her own and running her own business as a high end cater with the man who was formerly her body guard as her sous chef. Now she will have to put her skills to a different kind of test, bringing up her niece and avoiding a killer. Someone wants Chef Dani dead and will stop at nothing to see the job done, even if it means innocents getting hurt in the process. Can Dani and Arthur find out her wants her dead before it's to late?
I liked the narrator. Anna Wheeler has a pleasant voice that she puts to good use bringing the characters to life. Even a child's voice is child's play for her.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I have read many of Dianne Harmon’s books and have enjoyed them all. I love her characters and she always includes a dog or two! In this first of the series, the main character is a chef with a thriving TV cooking show who changes shift and decides to provide catering to the rich and the elite. also joining is her sous chef and body guard. Dani gets a life changing phone call: her estranged brother has passed away leaving a 10 year old daughter. The story takes place in Santa Barbara with Dani’s first catering gig and Anna’s first week. The book is very easy reading and will keep you interest. There is a little intrigue and suspense. The only downer was the clues to the potential killer was obvious. There was no real suspense as to who was the culprit. There is a book #2 which I can’t wait to read.

For someone who has written so very many cozy mysteries, Harman demonstrates in this novel an amateur grasp of dialog, an awkward manner of conveying backstory, and some logic elements that simply don't fit.

Bob Greenburg is engaged, but in love with Dani.
Arthur is an unknown, but has been working for 8 years with Dani.
Talia is an unknown to Arthur, but they both worked on the show all that time.

To me, the ending is completely unsatisfactory. For a competent security professional, Arthur seems incredibly content to presume he knows what happens next. Lucia's exit is almost ancillary to the story, despite her status as a prime suspect.

Where's Chester? Did anyone ask, or just assume?

Sorry, but there are so very many better in the genre that I found this one a waste of time. Even the recipes are common.

Great New Series!

Oh, to love cooking! Dani had a top rated television cooking show for eight years. Then she quits. Her estranged brother dies of a massive heat attack and his 10-year-old daughter is sent to live with Dani, her only living relative. Soon attempts on her life begin. Great characters and an intriguing plot line. Great little girl who had a rough childhood.

New series from Dianne! Dani has her own catering business. She has a partner Arthur who is actually a bodyguard. Dani is concentrating on her business and she has no desire to have any sort of relationship or family. But then she unexpectedly finds herself with custody of her 10 year old niece. Now Arthur’s profession is going to come in handy as it seems that someone wants to kill Dani. Great combination throughout the story. The story is full of new beginnings and exciting drama!

Murder at the St. Tegis

This is the first in Dianne Harman's cozy series on a chef, her chef assistant Arthur and her niece Anna. A box of candy, a blown up SUV and an attempted murder. Read as Arthur discover's the identity of this perpetrator. I read this one in one in a few hours It's fast moving and the characters you can't help to fall in love with, looking forward to the next Dani Rossetti's cozy series.

I really enjoyed read this book and I love the Characters in this story. It was alot of fun trying to decide who was try to murder Dani and how everyone had their own issues with her even if they were only in their own mind. I am looking forward to starting to reading the next book in the series. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a murder mystery and wants to figure out who is the murderer.

2.75 stars rounded up.

There was something oddly compelling about this rather average book, so I did finish it. But it read more like a detailed outline of a novel than a fully realized one.

The main character is a famous chef, but her menu and recipes are pretty much like home cooking. The rest of the characters, especially the recently orphaned 10 year old girl, didn’t ring true. Plot holes abounded.

And what ever happened to Chester?

Life changes in an instant

Dani got it made; single, great career, money, good friends. But one phone call changes it all. Anna her niece enters her life at the same time someone wants her dead. There is this & that and Dani becomes fearful. I enjoyed the book look forward to book 2.

The story was quite cozy, but my mistake was listening to the audiobook for this one. The Boston(ish) accent was extremely distracting for a book taking place on the west coast, and some of the pronunciations were...(being nice) "off".

With that said, I do like the characters and will read more of this series.

Dani’s Sous Chef was a burly Ex marine and glad they couldn’t see him, also his employees with his security business. He was also a good cook.
Plans change when she finds her estranged brother had died and leaving a ten year old girl. Dani had never married and how does one coop with a child, car bomb and murder. Intrigue and a nice enjoyable cozy mystery with good recipes.

The story was good and the characters and dialog were great. However, there could have been more scene setting between the bits of dialog. What were they doing while they were talking? What do the rooms look like when they walk in? There was some of that, but more would be better. Also, it seemed like there was a loose end, but maybe that will be corrected in the next book.

I have to admit that the picture on the front of the book is what drew my attention it was just so beautiful. The first book of a series is always an introduction to the characters and what storylines will basically be about. I really enjoyed the storyline; it captured my attention and played out very well. I look forward to the next book.

Wonderful Mystery

Dianne Harman is a favorite author. One of her writing methods I enjoy is that she starts her books with introducing her readers to the characters who could be the villains. Then we sit back and watch for any hints of who is the actual bad guy or girl. The characters are well developed, and the mystery is unique. Bravo!!

A Solid Cozy

I found Batman's book to be entertaining and a good mystery. If I keep it on my kindle it rates 5 Stars. It will be awhile before I will want to revisit this book but the characters and situations are likeable and believable and the plot moves along well. I can easily recommend this for teens and adults as an enjoyable read.

An Intriguing Mystery

This is an intriguing and exciting mystery, with some hair raising moments. The characters are very likeable and unique. There was almost a thriller quality to this story, which is not my favorite, but I'll try book two. Hopefully it doesn't scare the begebbers out of me. I'm a very big sissy, lol.

A good cozy mystery

I really enjoyed this one. An Ex-TV chef and her body guard tackle poison, bomb and the unexpected arrival of a previous unknown child relative in this excellent cozy mystery. The characters are engaging and so are the pets, the story and the mystery are well written and entertaining. The start of another excellent series from Dianne. Highly recommended.

Throughly enjoyed this book as it flowed very easily. Especially like the recipes at the end and can not wait to make the Black Russian cake and the bacon ranch salad! So nice to have recipes when the main character is a chef.
