The Earl of Henleigh has no time or desire for women. Well, that’s a lie. He has the desire, but since his disastrous engagement, he’s avoided the opposite sex at all costs.
It’s a shame Miss Haversham has not received the message, though.
The determined reporter refuses to leave Guy alone, convinced he’s the key to a story. He might well be, but he’ll be damned if she gets anywhere near his kidnap club.
Or his bed…
No woman has ever wanted that from him, and she'll be no different.
Freya Haversham wants one thing from the dark, wickedly handsome Earl of Henleigh.
Answers.
But the blasted man refuses to play nice. The story of these disappearing noblewomen could make her career and mean she doesn’t have to write insipid gossip columns anymore, not to mention she might earn enough money to look after her elderly parents.
She’s convinced he knows something, but he evades her at every turn.
That is, until he’s kissing her until she’s breathless. And rescuing her dog. Oh, yes, and looking after her mother. Could this heroic earl really be involved in something so awful as kidnapping and killing rich women?
Very well, perhaps he’s playing too nice.
She can’t let herself be distracted from this story, no matter how tempted she might be to give into the pull between them.
Taking the Spinster is a spicy Regency romance read with a hero who can't help but play rescuer and a heroine who despises everything the rich earl stands for. Be sure to pick up The Kidnap Club series that can also be read as a standalone.
Samantha Holt resides in Warwickshire, England, with her twin girls, having followed her soldier husband around the UK for nearly 10 years. Growing up in Hampshire, she was inspired by the authors Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell, both of whom lived and wrote only miles from her home town.
Samantha loves the romance genre and has been devouring romantic literature for as long as she can remember. History is another passion of hers and she loves to combine her love for history and romance into exciting and passionate tales.
Good main characters and nice plot. Think this is my favourite up to yet, although I did laugh at probably the most funniest thing I read - Freya wants Guy to 'make love' to her, but Guy tells her that he is still a virgin. It's because he has BIG cock and doesn't want to hurt anyone, including her. Hey Presto! It fits and she's o.k. It was an enjoyable read. 3.5* (rounded up)
It did take me a while to get into this book, I found the pace of the first half quite slow and then the second half just flew by. I did like the character of Miss Freya Haversham, she was determined to achieve her goal of being a serious journalist. She was tired of being told to stick to women’s interests. Freya was a caring person, who looked after her family and helped her friend. Guy also tried to help people as he was a member of the Kidnap Club. They were attracted to each but being from different social groups, could anything come of it. Also Guy had a secret that caused him some embarrassment. This did turn out to be an entertaining read. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
TAKING THE SPINSTER is the third book in The Kidnap Club series and the final one of the three men. Guy is single and resigned to it. Freya is a journalist determined to break free of the gossip column she despises. With such a big story between them, will these two ever see eye-to-eye?
I found this story to be thoroughly enjoyable and it held my attention from the beginning. To see Freya change in Guy's eyes from just being an irritant to someone he found enchanting was delightful. She was incredibly independent and yet she was able to learn to lean on Guy when necessary.
The pacing was smooth with no dull moments. I loved the interaction between all the characters, especially the cameos from the other two couples.
A brilliant addition to the series and one highly recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *
I have really enjoyed this series and especially the premise of a group of men "The Kidnap Club" help women escape abuse or being forced to marry. When a gossip columnist for the London Chronicle, Miss Freya Hamilton, is determined to find out more about the kidnapped women of the ton, she follows none other than Guy, the Earl of Henleigh. His is a member of the club, but they are doing their best to keep all a secret. A delightful journey as these two try to resist each other and she focus on getting her story! Samantha Holt always pulls me into her stories and makes me smile and sigh, especially about the cover of this book!
Instantly engaging, fast paced plotline that has hidden depths and keeps you entertained, charmed and invested. The romance is sweetly endearing, touching, funny and cleverly written. Guy and Freya have depth, selfless kindness, touchingly intimate moments, entertainingly beguilling chemistry and heart stirring histories. This series has continued to up the ante, has lead me to unexpected places and kept me glued and absorbed. A series I highly recommend you read in its entirety, even though each book can be enjoyed as a standalone!
i have always been a fan of samantha holt and am glad to add this one to my collection. It seems that Samantha thinks of ideas that others dont which to me is refreshing. I enjoyed Freya and her pursuit of info which brings her to Guy, and I liked Guy and his friends and their worthy cause. What did I not enjoy? that I started with this book in the series which is the third instead of the first book, but I will remedy that..Enjoy!

What an incredible way to end an amazing series.. I loved the Kidnap Club from beginning to end.. I'm only sad it's the end of it! Lol I could read more of this series and not get tired of it.. Each book has been unique in their own way.. Samantha did a 10 + star in this series..
Freya and Guy An awesome book entertaining, captivating and interesting read with kidnapping, a little mystery, banter. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters.

Can a Bluestocking Journalist Find Love With an Earl? by lindaci67
When I start reading a book that starts slow I will give it a few chapters then, and only then, I might put it aside and maybe pick it up again a while later. I almost chose to put this book aside, but I received a free copy of this book via Booksprount and needed to finish it in order to leave my voluntary review. So, I persevered and am glad I did. I have found that when a book starts slow, it is the author's way to set the stage for what will come or that they are giving you the background information in order to understand the who, what, when, where and why. Yes, we needed to know why Freya (the journalist) was following Guy (the Earl). Yes, we needed to know what Guy's secret was that Freya was trying to find out. Yes, we needed to read about how the attraction between Freya and Guy was growing with each of their meetings and how at one point Guy, without realizing what he's doing, starts to search Freya out. We find that Guy is a generous and compassionate person. Freya has the same characteristics, and takes care of so many (her family, her dog, and is constantly helping her best friend work towards saving to expand her seamstress business) that she forgets to take care of herself. Guy sees this and without thinking, he decides he will take care of Freya. Thus the turning point of the book and my curiosity is piqued. How will Guy reconcile his growing attraction to Freya with his determination to remain single due to how several females reacted to him physically (ok, what is making these females run away screaming?). By the end of the book, Guy and Freya are inseparable. Freya has stopped looking for anything that links Guy to the kidnappings of "ton" women. And they have saved the life of another "ton" woman. And, finally, Freya found a different, better story, one that doesn't include Guy, to prove to the world she is an amazing journalist.

I have absolutely adored the Kidnap Club series written by this author, so I was looking forward to this third installment of it. I found them delightfully humorous and surprisingly inventive for Regency romance. It’s a genre that doesn’t see many original takes on the familiar tropes (part of why we fans love it), but a new, excellent idea is always welcome. Unfortunately, I found myself disappointed in this book. Perhaps because it is not like the other two that actually hinged on kidnappings right at the start, real and imagined. Instead, this one was about the leader of the group and a reporter who wanted to figure out the disappearance of prominent women of the Upper Ten Thousand so she could use it to boost her career at the newspaper. I didn't really feel any spark for the romantic aspect, and I felt like I just kept waiting for something to happen. They just kept meeting up, either intentionally or unintentionally, but nothing much happened for a while. As I so loved the previous books, I kept waiting for... something. But I never felt like I (or it) got there. While I would highly recommend the previous books in the series, I don't feel like I can recommend this one.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
What is an Earl to do when a nosy reporter starts getting a little too close for comfort and possibly on the verge of discovering his secret? Why try to throw her off the trail by introducing her to one of the women who had been "kidnapped". At least, that was what Guy, the Earl of Henleigh had hoped. Unfortunately, Freya Haversham, the troublesome nosy reporter, isn't buying the story.
Freya knows that the Earl is hiding something, she just needs to figure out what. And once she does figure it out, she'll have the story of her life!
But what about the attraction she feels for Guy? What will she do with that?

Book 3 is my favorite in this series, although each one was really fun with great characters. Samantha Holt's characters have such substance, the dialogue & bountiful humor are well written with genuinely emotional scenes. This book had it all - I laughed, got teary-eyed and turned pages at warp speed to find out what happens next and in the end, I was rewarded with a romantic HEA and a smile on my face!
Lord Guy Huntingdon, Earl of Henleigh is a handsome, wealthy & single man. He started The Kidnap Club after his cousin begged him to help her escape her abusive marriage. Thus, The Kidnap Club had been born—helping women flee or hide temporarily without the blame ever being put on them if they were caught.
Miss Freya Haversham is a lovely, 28 year old spinster who is a reporter for London Chronicle, writing gossip articles until she came across a story of women from the Ton being kidnapped. She has some questions for Lord Huntingdon, after she did some investigating that leads her to think he is involved in the kidnappings - he is avoiding her and she has to find a way to get the answers. Reporting and breaking this big story could mean success as a reporter so she would have money to care for her ageing Mother, Father and dog, Brig.
Freya & Guy had a fun relationship and the road from enemies to lovers was great - I highly recommend this book and all in the series! I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Although Guy Huntingdon, Earl of Henleigh and originator of the Kidnap Club, insists he has no time for feminine companionship, he becomes increasingly involved with the persistent female journalist, Freya Haversham, who seems to follow him everywhere, even into places she definitely should not. She thinks he knows something about the disappearance of several society women, and getting that story would move her from gossip columnist to serious reporter
But the secrets of the Kidnap Club and its missions become easier to hide than Guy's personal secret: he avoids women because his private male attributes frighten them away! So embarrassing that even the other two members of the Kidnap Club do not know. However, Freya gets more and more confused by Guy's abrupt withdrawals from incidents of increasing passion between them. What a funny mess to read about!
Freya's spunky persistence, strength, family devotion, compassion and open-minded "living in the now" make her a readily likeable character. The rigid, no nonsense, strictly businesslike Guy of the prior books reveals his fears, kind heartedness, and passionate nature in this story.
Plenty of action, unexpected circumstances and encounters, and witty conversations move this plot along well. I adored The Brigadier (an elderly canine) and the park scenes with him are priceless. Guy's secret revealing confession to Freya amused me greatly - a many trying to explain the excessive size of his male appendage to a lady - worthy of a good laugh!
Most historical romance readers would find this regency story entertaining, but I must say the enjoyment factor increases immensely if the prior books of the series are read first.

This is an ADULT Regency Romantic💕 Comedy which I thoroughly enjoyed! It's well written, fast paced and free of editing errors. Recommend!
Loved, loved, loved reading this. It had me hook line and sinker from the very beginning. The dialogue was witty and honest. It was simply written. Everything made sense. The pace went smoothly from one topic to another and one scene to another. One always knew who was talking and the was no room for any confusion because it was so clear. I loved the characters Guy and Freya. The push and tug between them were so intriguing. The storyline was about Guy constantly being dogged around by Freya a reporter. She smelled a story and if she broke it out it would make her career in publishing. I was glad that Guy and Freya were not young adults. These two had years on them. They were mature and sensible. As hard as Guy resisted Freya she was like a dog with a bone; stubborn to the core and would not give up. Over time Guy became familiar with Freya's life, how she lived it and spent her time. She learned how thoughtful and kind Guy was although domineering at times. Guy had successfully resisted being intimate with women his whole life. But being around Freya tested his resolve. The reveal at the end is amazing. I never saw it coming. Excellent book. Very creative. I love the "Kidnap Club" series and look forward to Samantha Holt's next book.
I've read the whole series and this was somewhat different. The kidnapping isn't until the end of the story and the victim doesn't fall in love with the kidnapper. You don't need to read the previous stories because the author does a nice job with the back stories.
I had a hard time liking the h. Her actions were more for modern times. She would go out at all times of the night, alone and no one seemed concerned. She was way below the station of the Earl and kept hounding him for info because she was a reporter. All because he danced with the previous kidnapped victim. Surely others danced with her?
The H was very patient and caring. I loved how he came up with an idea for the dog to be able to enjoy his "walks."
I wanted a different ending with the villain and didn't care for what the villain did. I thought the what happened to the H was unbelievable, in his escape.
Lovemaking etc., outside of marriage, heat level 3 out of 5. There is talk of the H's equipment, if you know what I mean - no spoiler's so not saying more, buy this was unique too in how the author handled it - made me laugh.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, little on romance and some spice. (ljb)
TAKING THE SPINSTER is the third book in the Kidnap Club series. Though each story will stand on its own, I recommend this entire series and encourage you to read them in the order of release for maximum enjoyment since past relationships are revisited.
This story is clever, and Freya is a woman beyond her place in time. She is determined to be taken seriously as a journalist.
I loved the cat and mouse games of Freya and Guy. I loved the sweetness and empathy they both showed towards her mother and her sweet old dog. The hilarious banter between them made me wish the story could go on forever just to never end that fun.
All in all, this was a fun little escape with mystery, intrigue, and tons of empathy. I will put this one on my top 10 for this year!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: TAKING THE SPINSTER Series: The Kidnap Club #3 Category /Genre: Historical Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: Samantha Holt
A great read I enjoyed this book it was full of adventure, humor, and a wonderful romance. Freya Haversham was a writer for a gossip column but she wanted much more thus her investigation of Guy the Earl of Henleigh. Guy was tired of Freya following him, it was to important if seen talking to the Lady Clearbury someone might connect him with the Kidnap Club, Freya has already made a connection to missing women and Guy but did not know of a club, but she would find out before she was done. Finally winning an interview she tries to get answers but the only thing she finds is an extremely kind man who would go so far as to risk his life to save a dog. She is relentless in trying to prove her story. if only he wasn't so handsome, Guy wonders when Freya began to be so beautiful, why despite his Big problem he couldn't stop wanting to kiss her. Read the book to get all the answers and to simply read an enjoyable well-written book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the story of Miss Freya Haversham & Lord Guy Huntingdon. Freya is after a story. She just knows that if she can get the full story on the kidnapping of women of the ton, that she'll be able to quit writing gossip and get actual articles published. She's been following Guy around determined to find out what he knows about the kidnappings. She knows he knows something. If only he'll give her the scoop. Guy is the one who started the kidnap club. He's determined to keep it a secret and this reporter will never get any info out of him no matterr how much time she spends following him. He has to keep the women he's helping safe. The more Freya dogs him, the more intrigued he becomes with her and all her problems at home. Her invalid parents and dog. This is a wonderful story. I love that these gentlemen are helping abused women. Wish Samantha had more kidnappers to add to the series.
I absolutely loved Guy and Freya’s story. Freya wanted more than being a gossip columnist. She knew she was onto something and that the Earl was part of it. If she followed him he might slip up. Guy the Earl of Henleigh needs to keep his life private and knows he will be alone for the rest of his life. But when a meddling gossip columnists starts following him everywhere he needs to put a stop to it before she finds out his many secrets. As the two keep coming upon each other sparks start to fly. Is he as good as he perceives to be? He takes her mother in so she can get better, he makes her elderly dog a miniature perambulator. She’s not sure what to think but knows he’s so much more. Guy has kept so many secrets and one is he is actually a virgin at 35 yrs old and there was a reason why ex-fiancé called off the wedding. Can he tell Freya his secret and can they make a life together. My favorite of the 3 books.
Well, we have come to the end of The Kidnap Club with my favorite story of this series. Who knew Guy was holding onto a secret so salacious it made women scream and run with fear? You heard it here, he does. I loved everything about this story. Freya the pesky newsperson always trying to find out what is going on with Guy and his friends. Are they involved in something nefarious? Okay, so we know what they are involved in but she does not. How Guy and Freya interact with each other is too cute. Freya is always just around the corner and Guy knows but it is a cat and mouse game with them. Their love story is so fabulous! As you can see I am gushing over this story. Read this series if you have never tried Samantha’s books (heck, read them all). I hate to see this series end because the crux of The Kidnap Club is so honorable.
This is the 3rd book in the Kidnap Club series, it is about Guy who is one of the members in the secret club. He helps women who need help, he is a kind-hearted Earl who is being watched by Freya, a reporter, who thinks he is involved in the Kidnapping of Society women. I just loved Guy and Freya’s interactions with each other, some were funny, but all were enjoyable. This was such a smooth read I finished it in one day. Guy’s caring personality and thoughtfulness shows thru the book, how he treats, his butler, Brown, The Brigadier (Brig), Freya’s mother, but mostly how he treats Freya, even when she was annoying. I am very glad I read this book, because Samantha Holt has never disappointed me in her writing style and her stories. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Earl was the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate man. Freya is a journalist but only allowed to do gossip stories. She wants to write in investigative piece and she believes Guy, the Earl of Henleigh, knows something about the kidnapped ladies of society. So she follows him. But when he notices her and attempts to dissuade her the sets them on the path of friendship and possibly more. How can she believe such a caring and thoughtful man would be kidnapping ladies of quality? He sees someone who needs help and he steps in. But he is secretive when she asks about the kidnapped ladies. She knows there’s a story there she just has to find out what it is. This was such a sweet and funny story. The secondary characters were as wonderful as the main characters. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Freya is a reporter for a gossip columnist! Guy is an Earl! Guy has an embarrassing secret and his previous fiance laughed and married someone else to his chagrin! Freya is more like a stalker she is his shadow he can't hardly move without him! Freya was raised in genteel poverty and has care of her parents and her old blind dog! It seemed a long time to bring Guy up to scratch Freya knew of his problem and accepted it he should have jumped at the chance to propose! There is a despicable villain they are involved with in the kidnappers club! Their chemistry is nice! Freya is unexpected independent and definitely frumpy! Sure there is a class divide but thats almost standard in Victorian romances! I do love the interactions and updates from the other members of the Kidnap Club!!
Taking the Spinster is book three in the Kidnap Club series. A series I am enjoying way more than I anticipated. This book focuses on Guy, the Earl of Henleigh. He is the reason for the kidnap club, though not the reason that Freya Haversham thinks. She is determined to prove his is behind the club and its “deadly” dealings.
Freya is determined to prove he is behind the disappearing women, but when she sees him acting in a different manner, could it be just a misunderstanding?
Guy is fine being the man behind the curtain, so to speak. But finds himself intrigued by this fearless woman. Will she be the one to work past his defenses?
I voluntarily read and review an advance copy without expectations. All opinions expressed are my own. Another great read from the author. I hope this isn’t the end of the kidnap club, never say never.
Guy and Freya were awesome! Okay, I will admit it I am addicted to book by Samantha Holt but I plan never to seek relief from my ailment! I love her writing and in this book, you will find the same great characters, wonderful dialogue, and lovely humor all within a tale that the author brings to life. I love the idea of the Kidnap Club a group that sets out to help women to hide or leave abusive behind. Now everything is going rather well till Miss Freya Haversham gets interested in the story of the kidnapped ladies. You really should read this one trust me you will lose all track of time when reading and will be almost heartbroken when it ends because you will want more. I highly recommend it!! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is entertaining, interesting and romantic. Freya is hot on the trail of the perpetrator of the kidnappings of noblewomen. It has lead her to the Earl of Huntingdon. Guy saves abused women by "kidnapping" them and then helping them find somewhere safe to live. Guy tries repeatedly to convince her that there is no story, but he doesn't believe him, and makes a nuisance of herself following him around. She also takes over his mind, all he can think about is bedding her, knowing it will never happen. After his ex fiance ran from him, he gave up thinking about bedding anybody. Freya is smart, determined and bold. Guy is dedicated, determined and lonely. Sparks fly between them and love blooms . It's a very intriguing storyline and sweet, likeable characters.
Oh this is so good! Freya sets out to write a newspaper story concerning an earl’s involvement with a kidnapping ring, only to find that things are not always as they seem. When Guy realizes that she is not going to stop following him around, he decides to keep an eye on her....and that is when the fun starts. There are comical mishaps, misunderstandings, near death experiences, power struggles and a vital mission. The characters will experience light-hearted moments, heartbreaking revelations and moments of terror and grief. This story will take the reader on an emotional journey before an ending that will just have you shaking your head. Very well done! You won’t want to miss it.

This is the third installment of the Kidnap Club series. And what an awesome series this has been. I really like the premise of this group coming to the rescue of women who are being abused or are forced to marry (they do so by kidnapping them). This book was just as captivating as the others. Freya is a gossip columnist who is trying to find out more about these kidnapped women and she thinks Guy, the Earl of Henleigh has the answers. He is a member of the Kidnap Club and knows how important it is to keep it a secret. It was delightful following Freya and Guy's relationship as they tried to resist each other but inevitably found love. Ms. Holt has given us another 5-star story!

With both his partners very happily married, Guy remains alone, fundraising of the humiliation he suffered in the past. He has two problems: A young wife who is in desperate need of being kidnapped from a vicious husband who has her guarded day and night and a gossip reporter who is dogging his every move, willing to wait hours in inclimate weather to track him. She's determined to prove he's part of the group kidnapping and killing women of the ton. Its her big break, her chance to move from gossip to writing about real news and he's not making it easy for her. Wonderful book with all the action and unexpected twists from the good guys and the bad! You won't want to deprive yourself of this highly entertaining read!
