To protect the human race, 6T9 evolved with the flip of a switch and a few lines of code.
But he's made himself a killer as well as a protector. The programming that may save humanity has driven him from Volka, the woman he loves. In the heart of the Dark's first strike against the Republic, 6T9 must discover what he has become, who he wants to be, and who he wants to be with.
Slowly and almost unnoticed, Volka has been evolving, too. Heartbroken by 6T9's departure, she is torn between love and duty. Accepting the latter, she takes a mission that will lead her to the edge of the universe. There, she will be tested, and her evolution will pass a point where there will be no turning back.
An android who has become more than a sex 'bot, a mutant who has developed startling abilities, 6T9 and Volka have become more than human. The changes they've endured may save the galaxy, but have driven them further apart.
Will they find a way forward together, or will the bond between them wind up another casualty of the Dark?
C. Gockel got her start writing fanfiction, and she is not ashamed! Much. She received emails, messages and reviews from her fans telling her she should 'do this professionally'. She didn't; because she is a coward and life as a digital designer, copywriter and coder is more dependable. But in the end, her husband's nagging wore her down: "You could be the next '50 Shades of Gray' and I could retire!" Unfortunately, the author isn't much for writing smut. She is sad about this; she'd love for her husband to be able to retire and just work for her so she could nag him.
At the moment, Ms. Gockel is working on the next installment of her Archangel Project series.

Another fun read in this comical, but serious series. The characters add the levity.
Sentient, faster than light spacecraft. An augmented (previous sex 'bot) android; telepathic, intelligent creatures and human forms all wrapped around the basic plot of good versus evil. The Dark. How novel that. "The Dark" is evil.
I think C. Gockel said the ninth book will be the last. I will look forward to it.
So now you are getting insight into both Volka and Sixty. They are both developing, where Sixty seems to be more human and Volka has developed unusual abilities. The fact that they are not fighting together has made both of them feel unsure and depressed. Sixty is jealous of Volka connection to Alaric, her old lover and still friend. That makes him take risks that he probably would not take and he really doesn’t know if Volka would even want him. Vollka is depressed because Sixty is gone and she cannot figure out if he really wants to be with her or not. This makes her depressed so she takes on assignments to keep her mind off of their relationship. But they are both growing, Sixty is becoming more human and more in touch with his wants and desires. While Volka is developing special skills that scares her but is helping her to grow into the person that she needs to be. With the help of Carl, Bracelet and Sundancer, she is evolving very quickly.
Cannot wait to see what is going to happen now that there are new forces arrived to help in the fight against the Dark and that Volka and Sixty are now working together again. Will the Republic and the Luddeccens ever get over their prejudices and learn to work together? With so many not believing that the Dark is a problem, will those who know ever be able to convince them that they are in danger of losing all of humanity to the Dark?
I've read this series from the beginning and have loved it just as long... C. Gockel has a way of weaving current societal issues into her sci-fi stories that make them seem almost real. She includes wit amongst the danger and drama as the story unfolds, making the characters deeper and more "human." You'll want to start at the beginning with this series... while each book is stand-alone, it ends with a prelude of what is to come, and give syou important background information on the storyline and the main characters. In this book, Volka is starting to get the respect she deserves. She has MANY questions about her relationship with 6T9, and he has similar questions... then there's the continued drama with Alaric and his family. Alexis is becoming an increasingly important character, and my previous dislike of her is slowly changing. The question is whether they'll be able to come together to fight side-by-side and put their differences aside. Events in this book indicate that may just be possible... only time... and book 9 will tell.
I am enjoying this series, I should be, this is book 8! Once you get this far, you are all in. I like how 6T9 is evolving, but I did find the push and pull between 6T9 and Volka getting a bit wearisome - just talk! But they are culturally so different and I liked how the book ended with them, so that was good. The Dark and their enmity are fine, not more or less than that. They remind me a bit of the Borg, who were my favorite villains in the Star Trek universe. I actually like the concept of the One and their embodiment in Werfles (and cats!) more as the books progress. The characters have expanded in depth and complexity (so they should after 8 books!) and so I'm happier with them than I was initially. I always loved Volka and 6T9's reprogramming is interesting for me. All in all this is a solid 3.5 - 4 star series for me. Happy to spend time in it, but it's ideas are better than it's writing.
War with The Dark is is on, but getting people to believe it is happening before it is too late is something else. A Weere woman (part wolf) with her Android fiance, and her ex human lover, who the Sex Bot Android (General 1) hates, and the human Captains wife, who hates the Weere woman, who leads the battle against The Dark because she can feel them in their human hosts, along with The One, who are an advanced parasitic alien, and not forgetting the living spaceship........ Anyway it's a cracking read, and only sounds confusing.
Admiral Wolf continues the saga of 6T9, Volka, Alaric, Alexis, James, Noa, The One, The Dark, the ‘bots, and more. The reader sees them grow and evolve and become more aware. The author provides a gripping, unpredictable plot and tosses in some morally ambiguous situations and fills in important details. And of course we meet Admiral Wolf. Very well written, highly recommended. Cannot wait for the next book.
The worldbuilding is intricate, the characters are mesmerizing, and the story is thrilling. But Admiral Wolf has an extremely high, sad body count. I love Sixty, Volka, Carl, and Alaric. Alexis is growing on me. The androids and bots are a bright light in an often grim story. I got Starship Waking for free, and I had to buy the rest of the books to find out what happens, because this world is amazing.
All the social society mistakes you would expect from a society advanced from our present can only be resolved and rescued by a society that rejects all those ideas such that it is considered backward and a complete society of zealots. With that background, an excellent series has been developed.
Good grief.... I can't stop reading these, and I don't know why! There's one more book in the series, but it's not out yet, SO... I have to start reading something else. Kinda bums me out, but.... It won't be long till the last book, so I'll get to it soon.
Definitely recommended, but not your usual Sci-Fi.
I couldn’t put it (figuratively, since it’s an ebook) down! The characters are fully developed, and the story line is wonderfully complex. There are always new twists and turns. Read this series!!
I loved this book. I’ve been a fan of this author since the Loki stories, and I’ve read all the Archangel books too. I hope there will be more. I feel like 6T9 and Villa are old friends. These are books I will happily reread many times.
Can’t wait for the next one. More intrigue more great characters, war of course and the old characters keep learning and growing ( and growing on you).
This book is even darker than the last one in the series, but the danger has reached a point where anything less than serious would be inappropriate. Sixty and Volka are mostly apart in this book, and both of them are trying to deal with new powers and changes. The characters are very different than they were at the start of the series, but the changes make sense given everything that has happened to them.
Note: This is the eighth book in the series. You have to have read books four through seven before this one, and there is another book in the series.
