I was born on May 24th, 1989, and raised on Long Island, where I attended a small town public education. My vocational path has taken me down many roads, from retail, to used car sales, to high school security, working in a network or group homes to working as a nighttime patient sitter at my local hospital.

I’m a homebody at heart, though I possess this strange fondness for city life and, like the great H.P. Lovecraft, I have an especially painful attraction to Manhattan (a place which I have lovingly destroyed in several of my stories).

I love people, though I often find I keep them at arm’s length. I love watching people, ruminating on their behavior and building little stories out of my predictions as to what each man or woman I see is going to do next. Most especially, I like to imagine them in different settings, extraordinary settings, and ponder the discoveries of such extreme displacement.

I’ve always believed that chaos is the muse of creation, and a good story is often driven by the choices made in the wake of madness.

The 6th installment to the epic-fantasy series, We Are Voulhire: The Flesh of the Mind by Mathew Tysz ventures around magic, science, faith, desires and different worlds. From the rules and physics of Cosmos, the imaginative magic world of Caromentis and even the light and darkness of Alitheia and Hell which would all collide into the ever-changing Kingdom of Voulhire, enough that even the nightmares of the Emperor of Lullabies cannot take lightly.

Right after the sudden invasion of the infamous Emperor, all ambitious leaders of Voulhire finally found themselves in one common enemy & goal- to learn and find a way to defeat the Emperor. Despite the invasion, majority of Voulhire's cities did not surrender. This included the imposingly dazzling city of Cridea with it's charismatic and clever Lady Angela Velys, beloved of all it's citizens and her troop of archers, the Rilegatura. For the first time we were indulged to the creatures of the Emperor as they tried to take Cridea and other cities with an attempt at diplomacy, strange as it is. It seems that the Emperor wanted Voulhire for more than its lands and people.

Meanwhile, Demi and Rowan came to the safest place they could think of where Demetrius' ambitions lie in hopes. They arrived in Diamora only to revisit a different sort of evil. It seems that Hell itself had come for Demetrius. Galen on the other hand, unprepared to travel in Caromentis was succesful in his search for Meldorath who struggled against Javikun- the previous king of Voulhire and probably the first Voulhirian to set foot in Caromentis. Before he could do anything to save his beloved Kingdom, he first needed to sort his sudden entanglement to the conflict of the two.

After reading the previous books, I've already decided not be be affected if ever a good character dies but still Matthew Tysz held me in suspense even during fight scenes which now occurs alot in the book. I was quite shocked by the sexual content that arose, it was always in the series albeit like a shadowy illusion but here it surfaced in a little jab and surprised me, but maybe that was just me. As usual, the main course of the series would be the different character's entanglements and stories. Demi and Rowan's endearing interactions made me miss the trio so much. It was so funny with Maido around and how Demi reacts everytime he is near Rowan. Meldorath, Javikun and Galen probably was the best for me especially when Galen tried to outwit the two thinking giants. Rhea and Harper's camaraderie was empowering and new female badass characters are appearing like Julia and Angela. We even got to see such gag moments with Bob and Ralph as characters that are creatures of the Emperor. The only thing that confused me was the character of the witch. Although I always wondered what happened to characters who had major roles but dissapeared, it was quite off to me to suddenly see them out of nowhere. Despite that, I am excited to know more about them and what's in store for the series.

The series has plenty of deep and interesting characters therefore I find its multiple perspective appropriate and add the articulate dialogues and narratives that combines intensity, humor and philosophy.

-----spoilers

Im glad, truly, to not find death in this book. I was holding my breath the whole time because I constantly worry especially about Angela and Adrian but thank heavens this book has all the action, happiness, suspense, magic, humor and all that is good in a book. No restraining build-up, No depressing twists and No unecessary drama (maybe Marshus but, understandable) which - this is something I dont find in the series.

The first chapter introduces us to Cridea
And Angela Velys.
My favorite female character in the book. She obviously possess the same charisma and wit just like Rowan. Just seeing the first chapter and I knew, and Im glad that Rowan's sister has made an appearance which is an amazing one! I even like the fact that she is a strong happily married woman (who says strong women are only single right?) and how the book showed her relationship with Adrian. Angela is an assertive person and she doesnt shy from making decisions and acting on it while Adrian is a supportive and strong husband, able to protect her as she goes out and puts herself to danger and Im glad for the power couple! The fight scene of them against a nightynight was probably one of my favorite scene and fights in the series along with Demi for later.

Bob & Ralph
I was surpised to read a POV for them. The Emperor of Lullabies is still as mysterious as page one of this series despite the few revelations our dear author slips from time to time. It was interesting to see that other than monstrous creatures (ex. nightynights, badnoise) there are also human-like creatures that are capable of "socializing" and thinking/deciding. I am deeply intrigued by that part where it felt that the Emperor actually wants to experiment on his creatures about something in Voulhire more than the people of Voulhire. Still, we dont know his intentions. Bob and Ralph though, is like a comic-duo we never expected to see having. It was fun until that last moment where Bob got beheaded.

Demi-Rowan-Maido-Julia
But first DEMI-ROWAN-MAIDO.
This trio is the most hilarious thing ever. Demi is such a serious, overly-cautious person that every joke and jab by Maido strucks him hard. Im glad that it didnt turn out into a drama where Demi might act out on Rowan or viceversa as sometimes he comes off too demanding of Rowan but he usually restrains himself or Rowan doing anything stupid with Maido (although its highly unlikely, as he had proven himself in The Knights of Chalethire). Maido started out as a piece of crap character and seeing him change ever since Wilhelm's death gives me -just a taaaad bit of hope for him. He still is as ambitious as ever but seeing a different side to him here was a fresh moment for his character. I still dont like him in general though. BUT Rowan and Maido tandem jokes though! It was too funny and to have Demi at the receiving end made it all the better. Im just glad that Maido didnt act like a bastard when meeting them, despite having his own agenda, he really showed a good side here.
DEMI-JULIA
I dont know about this two but I sure would love to see a relationship for them (more than Harper and Galen) and that's because Julia is Meldorath's daughter and this emnity between Meldorath and Demi would be interesting to play out when Julia is involved. Meldo doesnt show a care for his daughter but well, im hoping for that meeting and how the three will interact.

Folcro
I have always been waiting for this character's return, but I didnt expect him to be this big dark witch persona. And when witch was mentioned, I was expecting a female. It was kinda off though, for me. He is ambitious but I thought it stemmed from being casted as a shadow of his father or something to do with his family, now I just dont know his intentions anymore. maybe his pervasive attitude is what drives him but I am glad it helped Ballerhall in a way. I do understand that he 'kindof' hates Demi because he ruined his grand plans (and I dont even know if he knows about Rowan striking an arrow to Kayden) but is it enough for him to hate Destinism in general and wants to destroy it? Although I guess something happened to him while everything was happening especially that he is connceted to Hell. And his character gave an interest to another dimension in the series. Alitheia and Hell. We already know about Caromentis but this one, not so much especially knowing Demi's light power and even Akistry was quite connected to this. Anyways this is one of the things Im looking forward to. Funny though that he actually carries Kayden's skull around.

Now involving Folcro. The fight scene where Demi and the gang fought this squid like demon. That was amazing, not because of the fight but the way Demi fought. Specifically, the way Demi kept protecting Rowan. That was the most precious moment of the book for me.

Finally to Galen-Meldorath-Javikun
It was amazing how the author introduced us to Caromentis in one book and having to continue the events happening in Voulhire as well considering it is a different world althogether where rules and concepts are entirely different. Galen took his environment in stride and I am so proud of him. Man, he really did great in this book. He was always an observant before, but here he really worked hard, and only on his own.(although he had a bit of help from Beth) I love that he was able to have Meldo and Javi BOTH help in the end and even had a truce. To be honest though I dont find Caromentis that interesting but maybe because it started with a build-up as introduction while all other stories are in a full pace action from beginning to end. Im curious if Javi would want to go back and try being King of Voulhire at some point and Meldo would get to have Caromentis solo.

Others
Harper. I was soooooo surprised? Idk but her scene with that poor young boy was cringe and I was full of second-hand embarassment I dont even know why but okay Ill accept it. I am even confused because she also shows some interest in Nartik but maybe Im just reading too much into things. That info about her "seeing" feelings though, Idk what that was for or if that's important.
Marshus. This wayward boy that is nothing but a shadow of hate. He doesnt know how to live anymore, although thinking about the injustice that happened to his family it's understandable. But I hope he finds peace and I was touched when Demi spared him and told him he will save him.

The ending part.
It was the most satisfying moment ever since I read the series lol. The first two books was depressing (but good) and the 3rd was action-packed & exciting while the 4th was both a growth and build-up and the 5th was a boiling point moment where things exploded in the end. Now on the 6th we have to deal with the explosion and in the end it was amazingly, satisfactorily, happily dealt with (and maybe just for the meantime but I'll celebrate when celebration is called for.) The REUNION and their dialogue and Im just so happy for the Meldo-Javi conclusion and Galen's return to Demi and Rowan. I dont know what will happen on Soulhire with Nartik and Harper who still have the H-O-T-S for Galen but Im glad NO ONE DIED and everyone is happy.

I am as usual, excited especially with angela and adrian and whatever will happen after that meldo and javi fiasco.

Galen is in Caromentis, Demetrius at Diaroma and the Emperor of Lullabies is in Voulhire.

Once Melodrama passes over The Emperor of Lullabies sends sky ships to Voulhire and ambassadors to major towns to try and urge their surrender, but many choose to rebel. Beth teaches Galen how to survive in Caromentis as he tries to persuade Melodrama to return to Voulhire and save it from the Emperor. Something or someone is stirring things up in Diaroma and Demetrius must find out who....
