Bloody fantastic!! This book was just the breath of fresh air I needed. A witty standalone that made me smile the whole way through.

Packed with genuine LOL moments, a dash of action and enough chemistry to necessitate pausing to fan my face. Remy is one seriously hot French guy and I have discovered that dirty talk in French is my catnip 🤤🤤

Donna Alam is one of the few authors guaranteed to make me laugh and fan my face.

I received an arc of this book.

2 ☹️☹️⭐️s

I was so excited when I saw the cover and read the blurb! Even when I started reading Rose and Remy’s story!
I was very intrigued by the plot and the characters.
I liked Remy a little bit more than Ros, he had his way to express his feelings.

But as the story progressed I realised that it was written at great length, tediously prolonged and I lost interest. There were a few paragraphs I skipped...I wanted to dnf it a couple of times but I kept hoping it would become better.
Also, there were editing issues. I had to read twice some sentences or paragraphs in order to understand what the author was trying to convey.

The story had potential but for me it wasn’t successfully exploited.

DNF @47ish% (26th July)

So, it's probably me and not the book. I'll admit the start was promising and the plot seemed interesting (at least the start 40% after which it all went downhill) It's just that there wasn't any spark, not between the characters or in the book. I was all very Insta-lovey and not realistic at all. It was also very coincidental and not reasonable. I mean it was like everything was connected in itself which I didn't like at all.

Again, it may be me and not the book, but it won't stop me from future reads by this author. Just like it didn't stop me from making a picture edit on it😂😂 (don't ask why, I was just bored I guess😂🤷🏻‍♀️)

❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖

EXTRA INFO:

so, I just found out a couple of more hateful things from this review. Y'all should go check it out cause its definitely more insightful!

○ he has a fiancee while he is going out with the h

○ Rose is a dumb-chick I already knew that but it just goes to another level

○ he showers her with expensive gifts so that she comes back to him, basically trying to buy her back and dumb-chick does just that

more reasons to not read it:

○ CHEATING

○ CHEATING

○ CHEATING

○ CHEATING

Cheating is a big no-no for me, and I'm tempted to take back even the 1 star I rated this book!!

Liar Liar – by Donna Alam

I laughed, I was craving baguettes, I started talking en français and I fell in love with this couple.

Rose Ryan and Remy Durrand are the ultimate made for each other couple. Rose needs someone to love her, to be there for her, to make sure she knows she is loved. Remy needs someone to help him believe in people that will be his friend or lover because of what they see in him. He doesn’t want to be loved for his bank account or his last name but because they see the good in him.

Donna Alam takes us through their journey, from their one night stand, to Rose moving to Monaco for a job and finding herself.

Their witty banter, the sexual tension and attraction this couple ignites in one another, the secrets that are kept and the lies that are told, eventually lead to intrigue and a battle that could end up with one of them in grave danger.

Through concussions, quiet dinners and a love that may have been orchestrated from the grave, Rose and Remy have taken over as my new favorite Donna Alam couple. With the cast of supportive colleagues and long distance friends there can only be a wonderfully happy ending for Rose and Remy.

One of the best summer reads for 2020!

I'm not exaggerating when I say it was painfully obvious booze was involved in the writing/plotting of this book.

"Liar, Liar" by Donna Alam was a book I was super excited for, all hope I had for it died a gruesome death the more I read.

My first problem with the plot was when the main leads first meet, the premise of it had potential, but the execution was SO bad: from the heroine being over the top quirky (I probably rolled my eyes to heaven & back by now) & her pretending to be the hero's gf just because he's hot and "doesn't speak English" to the fact she chose to behave like no kind of online translators exist because it's not convenient for the plot if she showed the tiniest bit of intelligence and used one to communicate with him. Worse, Rose multiple times references Google Translate (how she used it to translate the word for her new job HQ, how Remy SHOULD have used it to write her a thank u card to go with the flowers), yet when it came to the most important moment: communicating with Remy in the beginning of the book, she acted as if GT doesn't exist, she wanted to wait for her bff on the other side of the world to wake up so SHE can ask Remy some questions (that didn't even happen). At one point Rose became a mime in her attemps to offer things to Remy & used the opportunity he speaks only French to make a complete idiot of herself and let her "quirky af", melted-brain side shine bright.
plot
The Characters:
- Rose:
My second (and biggest) problem with the book was Rose. She's the type of heroine to get all stupid when the hero shows up, no joke Remy's dick must have some brain melting powers.
She accepts an amazing, well-paid job, yet for some reason when she arrives has no clue what it entails, how to dress for her first day of work (I'm so over the heroines that think it's a good idea to show full-on nipples and whatnot on their first day) and doesn't speak the language the job requires.
But wait, it gets worse. Rose concludes the hero & her boss can't be the same person because of the "difference" in pronunciation of their names (DurranD & DurranT). One fucking letter.
Once she has the opportunity to confront Remy about why he bought her to another country & gave her a job in his company, she chooses to make out with him on his desk instead. That's clearly a time to get down to business, esp considering her livelihood is on the line (the position needs a person that speaks French, people were all wondering why she was hired) and she decides to let her vagina do the thinking.
The moment Remy finds out who she is, he gives her a fancy apartment in his building. She cries like a baby over that & is so conflicted about her FEELINGS for him (at this point she has known him for ONE NIGHT, a night of hooking up & her having a monologue with Remy in the room, they certainly didn't bond). Pretty early on Rose tells us she's following HER HEART when it comes to getting with Remy, when in reality they've known each other for a second (how is her heart already involved).
Rose concludes Remy is "bossy as fuck" after one short conversation with him, when he wasn't at all that bossy. She's so casually judgmental towards everyone, including Remy, all remarks are made so lowkey like the author hoped readers won't take notice of them. We're supposed to feel bad a woman is fat-shaming Rose when she herself is skinny-shaming her female boss because they don't get along (gee, probably because you got it all handled to you on a silver platter because of Remy and aren't even the right person for the position).
Halfway through the book she actually had the audacity to complain to Remy she has to run errands for rich people (like maybe be thankful you have a fucking JOB & you're living in a great apartment?!), she calls them "babies in grown-up bodies in control of a large portion of the world's wealth". She's angry because the people are using services that are offered (and are the reason her job exists) and can't even order a salad or a sandwich on their own (like for example a hairdresser getting angry people go to them to get a haircut).
Here is to mention Rose is super hateful when it comes to people that are rich, successful or have simingly good lives (including Remy & her best friend). She keeps reminding us how wealthy Remy is and how that automatically means he won't understand any of her struggles or her (like why date him then? how should I believe she's not after his money, since she refuses to act like they can relate to one another).
Rose would always point out how Charles uses the wrong phrases in English, like she has the right to be judgy, considering she doesn't speak his language.
remy
- Rose & Remy as a couple just didn't do it for me.
scheme
Everything felt so rushed, the insta-love trope taken to the extreme:
>After one night Rose is already following her heart (no actual dialogue involved, just a sexual bond)
>Rose & Remy have been together in secret for about 3 weeks & he's already dreaming of what they would do in an year, he refuses to let her go & basically can't breathe without her
>With the very first conflict (3 weeks in, fiancee twist) Rose already has her heart broken to a point it "needs a baggy and a tub of glue", in her opinion they "were a lost cause before they even began", so freaking dramatic.
>After those 3 weeks of sleeping together, they "break up" for 3 weeks, during which Remy showers Rose with expensive gifts & in attemp to get her back even gifts her his grandparent's house (a wtf moment), needless to say he's absolutely in love & wants to spend his life with her. He tells Rose he loves her, she refuses to say it back.
>Not even after 2 months of dating Remy is already dreaming of getting Rose pregnant. He calls this "a primal need", he's hit his head good this time, I guess.
For a good chunk of the book you don't get to experience first hand Remy & Rose having couple moments where they do anything else besides have sex, all you get is a Remy POV flashback in the middle of another random convo telling us they talked a little about his dad while in bed. Remy adds what they have is "more than sex" with nothing to back that up.
Later he'd list off things they did (watched some movies, ate some fancy dinner indoors since they're hiding their "relationship", they talked about stuff (what stuff I can't tell ya) under the stars one time), why should we actually experience those, who needs it? Not me.
Not only is their relationship rushed, the whole time Remy lied to Rose (wanting to tell her a certain thing WHEN HE'S READY knowing full well it would be worse the longer he lies) & even decided to keep hiding a secret at the end of the book. They also didn't communicate at all: when any conflict arose, Rose would either
a) get absolutely furious (hitting Remy, throwing things at him, telling us how angry she is again & again) and keep reminding Remy he lied about this one thing
or
b) she would flee the confrontation/refuse to even let Remy explain & get drinks with another man (2 times, different men). Anytime they'd fight they never address things, they act like sex would magically fix the issue.
At one point Rose wants to reveal a lie to Remy & her way of going about it is to get hostile with Remy for no reason: acting like an a-hole because she's planning on telling him she lied about working in a strip club. Makes no sense, why be awful to the person you want to apologize for lying, you'd think she would be nicer to him, hoping that would soften the blow.
Once Rose finds out Remy has a secret fiancee, she immediately flips out, runs off with his creepy cousin to get drunk & tells us how she's thinking if she should get tested for STDs since they didn't use condoms & he must have been sleeping with 1000 women all of a sudden. Then she goes on a rant where she belittles herself & whines about her situation. Yeah, not gonna feel bad about ya.
When she gets home Remy approaches her to explain things, she back to super angry and violent. After her little tantrum, Remy has no choice but to pin her down & guess what, she's turned on by that. Smh. More of Rose being mature af follows: leading Remy on about her sleeping with the creep.
As the chapters progressed Rose continuously would say how Remy can't be trusted & how the creep told her the truth. Same guy tried to trick her into sleeping with him & blamed it on drugs.
Now broken-up, you get a lot of her being an arse to Remy. She acts as if she hates his company & his attempts, yet deep down is quite enjoying it all. Remy ofc isn't above playing the: "I own you, so you have to come with me" card. He keeps trying to win her back for ages & when she finally agrees to a dinner, she wants it to be written off as overtime & paid as that. Yet she dresses sexy & wears the shoes he bought her. And we're to believe she's not a gold digger & worries about how people would see their relationship.
Time & time again Rose would make a remark about Remy being a rich man that in no way can ever undestand her, yet for some reason she wants to date him & spend her life with him.
His excuse for not telling Rose some of the things is that he's afraid SHE won't understand & let me tell ya, that man is absolutely right. Rose can't handle anything like an adult, apart from his baguette.

*Trigger warning for Chapter 51 (elements of sexual assault)*

The writing of LL was quite repetitive, often too wordy, with French phrases coming out of nowhere in the dialogue. At places the author & editor have missed quotation marks so it's unclear if the person is saying the certain thing or just thinking it. It felt like the author tried too hard to rewrite phrases that already exist to make them sound more quirky & original.
They were tons of weird sayings that exist just for word count: "hamster colony living in Rose's mouth" = her troat is dry, "who the fork owns cake forks!", "door bitch at a club"- ya mean bouncer?; like a camel train=leading the way; as natural as a three-legged man (so over the 3 legs jokes, what are we, 12?); Rose shakes her head like a horse shaking off flies (Remy compares Rose to a horse, didn't see that one coming ha?); indoor rain=she's crying; mask that resembles a teabag= fencing mask.; the jealousy in my stomach turns to the size of an anaconda; splashing wine into a glass (this one was used so many times); "calm your farm!". Are we playing a guessing game?!
The author has Rose retell Amber in great detail a scene we already saw. You get to read so many random, useless conversations that usually make no sense or don't bring anything new to the story. So many chapters exist just for rehashing what's happened so far. No joke, it felt like Alam thought her readers would have Dory's memory so she has to keep reminding what's going on. Half the chapters felt in their entirety like fillers. Chapter 28: 20% of it is Remy spying in on Rose over some fancy intercom & telling us what she's up to while she waits for a meeting with him. Rose would randomly switch to third person when looking at herself in a mirror, she would often make no sense, like being drunk all the time. She loves describing all in such great detail, at one point even has a four pages long discussion with Amber about cheese, desserts & Remy's baguette when it comes to taste & smell (like at what point is it too much. Cause I've had enough).
LL has many cliches (somebody tampering with Remy's helicopter, secret fiancée, ex-fiancée trying to seduce the hero & recording it, villain reveals his plan with a speech cliche, Rose being insecure about her curves, yet not saying even which size she is, her getting angry at Remy when she knows the tape with Amelie is fake, villain wanting to steal the company, house/car as a gift) and conflicts/twists that are super predictable.

Quotes that speak for themselves:
#1
#2

#4

Final thoughts:
"Liar, Liar" is a book I was tempted to DNF a lot. The story had potential, but the writing was wordy & repetitive, the relationship between the leads too rushed. The conflicts would be introduces either too late or too randomly. The descriptions & phrasing were so bizzare at times. The humor got old fast. There weren't any likable characters, the villains we got were so cartoony, the heroine would most likely get on your nerves multiple times. The Epilogues (you get an extended one if you sign up to a newsletter) were pretty generic & not that satisfying, the final chapter was so rushed, Rose somehow decided to avoid dealing with the trauma from being kidnapped & acted as if it didn't happen. Not a very good message.

"Liar, Liar" isn't the most terribly written book out there, but if you're going in expecting a good executed insta-love romance with likable characters and interesting storyline, you might end up disappointed. Status: wouldn't recommend.

I definitely was intrigued by this one when I first came across it, but unfortunately, it was more of a miss for me.

the good
- Lets talk about that cover for a quick sec. Wow. So far definitely one of my favorites for the year.
description
description

- DA swiftly brought the chemistry between R & R to a palpable level almost from go. R & R were incredibly sexy together — at times —. Even fun & a little sweet too.
description

- Rose’s bff, Amber, is a fun side character.

the not so good
- The potential was there, but ultimately I think this book was in need of a book doctor to make the most of the good bones. A combination of the use of only single quote marks for dialogue(I'm not used to it for all the dialogue. More than a few times, I would read it as an apostrophe instead & would lose track a bit of where the dialogue stopped or continued, then I'd have to go back & reread), once in awhile I'd come across a few unnatural turns of phrase(It made me kinda wonder if DA is from outside of the US & Canada maybe. It just didn't sound like something someone from the US or Canada would say. No judging if that's the case. Just more time rereading & trying to figure what she was getting it with a few) & some longwinded inner monologues, I think kept taking me out of the story. I'd be into it at times & other times these things left me feeling disengaged. I don't think the plot lent itself well to being so lengthy either.

- Turned out to be a billionaire trope. Here admittedly is a case of it's not you, it's me(but book-wise lol), honestly. The whole tyrant level power-lust thing isn't doing it for me. I think I've had my fill, so the trope is rather boring to me atm regardless of how well it is or isn't done.

- Remy. He wasn't all bad by any means, especially in the first half, but he definitely lived up to the title, Liar Liar & some other things.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

'Liar Liar' is a Standalone Romance written by Donna Alam. This book was one gripping tale of love and a bit of suspense!!

I thought I had written the review of this book , but it seems like my wonky brain forgot about this one! So here is my late az fuck review… apologies 💓

This was the first book that I have read by this author and I must say that she is quite talented. The blurb of this book sucked me in and I picked this book the moment it arrived on my kindle! I read this one in one sitting couldn't stop reading until the very last page!

This book explores one disastrous one night stand that turned into so much more. Remy is the bad boy type. He needs someone to love him and does not want to be wanted for his bank account. Rose is the female protagonist of this book and was a sweet caring woman. She ends up taking care of Remy one night and thinks he can't speak english. They end up spending the night together and when Rose wakes up the next morning , Remy is gone.

Life was going ok until she walks into her office and finds her new boss to be the one she slept with. And his English is perfect. Their story starts off a bit rough as Rose thinks she got tricked. This book was a fun read for me , a contemporary genre with decent character and no dark stuff! I recommend this book to all the contemporary romance lovers out there who would love an asshole hero and a heroine who brings him to his knees!

Liar Liar by Donna Alam a five-star read that will bring love to your life. Wow this just has the quelque chose de special (somethingspecial) that will blow you away, it has the usual Donna Alam way that brings the joie de vivre to the story, but this one just has something extra special (and I’m not talking about the purple monster that should have been called Barney), it has more mystery and somehow more oh la la and yes I know I am in love with the French accent (once you meet Remy you will also be in lurve). But not from everyone, I don’t know why but every time I was reading Benny boy he kept talking to me in the accent of the fake French policeman in the old tv series ‘Allo Allo’ which was just weird as the dudes proper Frenchy!! (a reference many will not get, but these are my words so, sorry, but I do) I cannot recommend this one highly enough, if you have read Donna Alam previously then I am sure you will be eagerly devouring this one like a juicy French baguette, and if you haven’t yet had the pleasure then get to buying , you wont be disappointed the mistress of the words has brung it all with this one!!!

Hot, rich Frenchman woos the sassy, independent Southern belle w a dash of suspense!

OMG!! Remy! *le sigh* *le swoon* He can lie to me anytime!!

Rose, or Roísín if you want to go by her license, friend of Amber from Down Under, is back in the States, San Fran, working as a waitress at a strip club and barely scraping by. She meets the incomparable Remy when she beans him with a HUGE purple dong when he comes up behind her in the middle of the night at her front door.

Realizing the hottie she just knocked out was probably seeking help not trying to attack her, she becomes his good samaritan through his trip to the ER followed by taking him to her home. Which leads to a steamy hot one night stand with a man who apparently speaks no English...just French.

After being bombarded with gifts from her mysterious guest, she eventually ends up taking a job in Monaco and turns up only to discover her hottie is now not only her boss...

...but he speaks English!!

Thus starts a whirlwhind!

Rose is stubbornly independent and highly suspicious of people's motives. Particularly male motives. She cannot see what Remy, a super rich, super powerful, super sexy male wants with her.

She doesn't think she's unattractive. She just isn't a pampered thoroughbred like the women she imagines he is usually with.

She is right to not be so trusting. Things are not as good they seem in the world of Remy. There are definitely people with questionable motives around. Plus Remy has secrets about why he sought Rose out.

She makes some new friends in Charles & Fee. Remy's bodyguard, Rhett/Everest, is a character I hope we see more of. And much more!!

We also get glimpses of Amber & Byron and their brood.

Now Remy, so dreamy! He can't stop thinking about Rose. He is single-minded in his pursuit. He loves her as she is. Even before he realizes it is love. He has been a ruthless businessman, but Rose makes him realize there is more to life than business.

Their path is far from straight and smooth but it is full of romance, steam, a bit of drama, and a dose of humor.

Mmmmm, delicious!!

I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

THE BEST PART? PARIS AND A DIRTY-TALKING FRENCHMAN THAT WAS SEX ON A STICK

“Have you been looking for me?” ~~ Rose “Only my whole life.” ~~ Remy

There’s only one reason to read this book. REMY DURRAND. That Frenchman is sex on stick and I would marry him tomorrow, but he isn’t REAL! Yum to the 10th power. THIS GUY … is “like being offered a cake with a cookie inside.” Lip-smacking good. He stole the book away from everything and everyone else. ONLY because of him did I keep reading … and the lovemaking was eye-crossing.

I was almost hyperventilating with excitement to read LIAR, LIAR. Jumping up and down like a damn, excited toddler with my face in a bowl of mac ‘n cheese. Then I looked at the page count: 527 pgs?! That stopped me cold in my tracks. COLD. Was this the War & Peace of romance? War & Peace (no snickering please) is 1,225 pages and this book is nearly half that length. I asked myself: How many big O’s, ways and days of courtship, countless swooning, a couple of Hallelujah choruses (if you get my drift), and various states of undress and wallbanging can fill up that many pages? This can’t be a good sign. Undaunted, I still dove in head first. 3 DAYS TO SLOG THROUGH THE BOOK.

Let me get this out of the way first. The author is relatively new to me and I have this absolutely insane love-hate relationship with her writing. On a basic level, I totally dig her books and style of writing. She’s funnier than almost any author I can name when it comes to clever and witty one-liners and original phrasing. Unparalleled. Like savant level good. Her humor slays me and her characters captivate me totally and utterly. The romance is off-the-charts smoking hot. The lovers are to-die-for -- salivating good. I’m hanging by a thread in deep simpatico. And then it collapses. She NEEDS a really good editor …STAT, plus a proofreader with working eyesight. There are execution issues and a ridiculous amount of proofreading errors. And these unnecessary flaws in such an otherwise solidly entertaining and talented writer are due to one glaring issue: There is NO PLOT in her books. Let me explain …

Frenchman Remy (34) is so hot that it’s impossible to breathe or stare at him head-on. Tattooed. Motorcycle-riding. Speaks French (and more languages, including DIRTY French). Then there’s half Lebanese/half Irish Rose (25) – a girl without a family (long story) and curvalicious in her 2-sizes too small barely-there waitress uniform for her strip club job. In a crazy-funny, but semi-serious accident, Rose cold-cocks Remy with a giant purple dildo. He ends up at her apartment overnight for her to monitor his concussion. The hottest sex in the universe happens, but he disappears without a trace by morning. Later Rose takes a job in Paris where the billionaire CEO just happens to be Remy in all his suit-porn glory. The mysterious Mr. Baguette (figure it out) himself. There’s an unsolved mystery between them that he's hiding, but has some huge repercussions.

The whole book is Remy's love obsession with Rose and pulling out all the stops to court her. It was steam heat when they were together plus a whole other level of angry fireworks from her, but even that started to drag with overkill. All the in-between was quippy dialogue, downtime, and a bunch 0f side characters that go nowhere. Filler to the max. Not a flipping thing about Remy’s secrets, lies, or the mystery. His unsavory, shady cousin is introduced along with a business rival who could become a problem for Remy. But literally nothing happens regarding them along the way, and I got antsy and bored during the long breaks between the couple’s romantic moments. Remy’s bodyguard buddy Rhett was interesting, but uneven and under-explored. Remy’s mom and a tinge of OW drama were nothing either, and I was scratching my head about where the plot was hiding.

In the end, Remy was a hard man with soft thoughts. Rose was often bratty just for the sake of asserting her independence. He’s afraid she’ll bolt when she finds out what he’s hiding from her, and she doesn’t trust rich men. So, it’s a major impasse until the end. If not for the incredibly sexy and hot romance, I would have tapped out. As if the author knew that time and all the busy filler were running out, the whole mystery gets wrapped up ridiculously fast with no concern about any blowback from Rose anyway. It was great when it was fun and cheeky, and face fanning when it came to sex and romance, but the story as a whole was a dud and the author slides right over the conflicts. Badly executed and poorly integrated. There's a tendency to over-write and milk scenes to death, and still end a scene too soon without finishing it off. Ultimately, I enjoyed what happens to the couple and their HEA, but it was like following them in real time. S.L.O.W.M.O.

When the world is in chaos in the midst of a pandemic, and you're looking for an escape from it all, author Donna Alam is your go-to girl, and Liar Liar is your book!!!
This delicious, heart-warmingly hilarious break from reality is just what the doctor ordered.

When Rose Ryan nearly trips over a would-be attacker on her doorstep, and counters said attack with a silicon weapon of pleasure, you know you're in for a riotous ride and some seriously saucy "sexy times".

Add to that one sexy Frenchman whose tongue has more skills than those of the linguistic variety, and I was swooning right along with Rose, melting with every syllable.
The accents and the french phrases really made this story for me. It had me hearing Remy's delectable voice so clearly in my mind. Je l'adore!-I adore him!
And it wasn't just the language satisfying this lifelong Francophile. Donna's vivid descriptions of Monaco and the sights, sounds and the people of the Riviera also transported me there, only adding to the realism and escapism this story gave me.

This was quite a long book, but at no stage did I feel fatigued by it's length.
The developing backstory and their burgeoning romance deserving of the attention by the author, to the point where I really didn't want it to end.
With the addition of such colourful supporting characters-and I have already begged the author for more of Rhett—this is an absolute must-read recommendation from me!
C'est Magnifique! Et méritant cinq étoiles (It's magnificent! And deserving of 5 stars!)

I never thought I’d find another sexy, billionaire, alpha asshole French boss who could top Célian Laurent, but I think Remy Durrand may have just done that 😳 and oh my word is he 🔥 I’m also feeling like all these books about said hot French bosses are leaving me with massive false expectations 😅 but I digress.

Donna Alam can be hit or miss for me, but this book was so, so on! I LOVED every second of it and seriously couldn’t read it fast enough. The chemistry between Remy and Rose was fantastic from the beginning. The book starts off with a bit of a mishap when after coming home from her dead end job, late night shift, she hits Remy over the head with a giant purple dildo (yeah you read that right) thinking he was some kind of threat. After realizing that he’s passed out for far worse injuries that what the giant purple dildo did, she gets him to the ER and gets mistaken as his girlfriend and is called in to translate for him, as he only speaks French. These two end up spending the next few hours together and the steam is off the charts, finding that you don’t need to speak the same language to have amazing chemistry, only for her to wake up with him gone. A few months later she finds an amazing job in Monaco, working for none other than the same Remy who she had met months before. The resulting drama that comes from this is AMAZING! Not only because of the sexy 🔥, because HOT DAMN, but because of the mystery, secrets and lies that are tangled into their lives. And boy is it a tangled mess. So much I didn’t even see coming, but it made one heck of a story.

This also made me want to go back to Europe in the worst way! If you’re into hot, alpha assholes, the life of the fabulously rich, and lots of steam and humor along the way, then you need to add Liar Liar to your TBR!

LIAR LIAR by Donna Alam is the story of Rose Ryan and Remy Durrand.
Rose is struggling to make it but works very hard. When she accidentally knocks out Remy on their first meeting things start going off the rails. Rose thinks he can't speak English but a few months later when they meet again she learns that he does and that wasn't the only secret that he didn't reveal. Rose and Remy start to find something in each other that fills them with the love that they both wanted and needed. I am a fan of the is author so I was excited for this book. So glad it lived up to my expectations.

Liar Liar is an entertaining read.

Rose is a sassy, yet vulnerable heroine. She is a good person, but knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that life can be cruel. Still, she tries to live in the moment, soaking up any happiness she can, while doing her best to be kind. Her kindness is what makes her cross paths with Remy intially and irrevocably binds him to her.

After one night with an angel, Remy Durrand's jaded life gets a big, bright shaft of light. He doesn't understand why Rose affects him the way she does - only that he has to leave so that his darkness doesn't swallow her up. But when he meets her in his employ three months later, he sees it as a sign that he is meant have more of her. But the secrets he's keeping from Rose may not just be heartbreaking; they could be a matter of life & death.

I was glued to these pages. Rose's internal banter was fun, and insightful. I loved the way she fought to survive in spite of all the bad luck she'd been through. Remy was a typical rich boy, but meeting Rose softened his sharp edges a bit. His & Rose's banter was witty, sexy & funny to read. I loved the suspense angle, though I figured out most of it pretty early in the book.

Though I rather enjoyed this book, I didn't like that Remy still kept Rose in the dark after everything. I also found that, for a rich man, Remy's security left much to be desired (even though I liked Rhett's character). The last 10% of the book moved rather quickly in comparison to the rest of the book, proving my (and Rhett's) suspicions to be true.

I recommend this read. It will make you laugh and smile and swoon alternatively.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Liar Liar is Rose and Remy's story and what a great story it is!
When Rose and Remy first meet it is a less than conventional meeting.
When Rose returns from work in the early hours of the morning, walking up the steps to her apartment a hand reaches out and grabs her wrist. Understandably Rose freaks out and grabs the first thing from her bag, which is embarrassing but makes a great weapon!
After attacking Remy and running inside, feeling bad Rose goes out to her "attacker" and finds him unconscious and bleeding so she rings an ambulance.
Later at the hospital, the hospital staff mistake Rose for Remy's girlfriend and wanting to know if he's ok goes along with it.
When Rose is aloud to see Remy she finds out he is French and doesn't speak English or so she thinks!
Feeling bad for attacking him and putting him in the hospital, she feels sorry for the French tourist and takes him home to look after him.
Close proximity to a hot French man and seems as Rose has been celibate for quite some time, one thing leads to another.
After a hot and steamy night, Rose wakes up and her mysterious French man is gone.
A few months after their night together Rose gets a new job in Moscow, imagine her surprise when she meets her new boss....Remy!
Read Liar Liar to find out what happens next!
I received an Arc of Liar Liar and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Arc provided in exchange for an honest review
I was genuinely surprised by this book, I was not expecting to like this at all and judging the size and the length of it I was set for being bored for some of it. To be honest, it was a little longer than it needed to be - but I still loved loved the story and characters.

The relationship in this was swoon-worthy from the very beginning, I love how they initially met and how it spun out from there. There were hints of humour in this which I appreciated as well. Remy was such a great hero, I love how he was the one pining and chasing after the heroine throughout basically the whole novel.

Rose was a great heroine too and I really enjoyed reading her. Albeit, she did really annoy me when she wouldn't listen and jumped to conclusions, as well as blindly trusting other men which was so silly.

I LOVED Rhett's character he was so mysterious, funny and a hot asshole - I loved what he brought to this book! The plot was very good and I'm looking forward to reading more works from this author!

God! I absolutely loved this story!

"His attention is intense and like a brush of hot fingertips before the look is replaced by a flash of annoyance."

When Rose Ryan saves a handsome stranger, she doesn't realise what she's set in motion, especially when she gives in to temptation. Months later, she comes face-to-face once more with Remy Durrand - only to discover that he's her new boss and he doesn't seemed pleased to see her.

"I will not lose my mind over a girl. A woman, my mind corrects. A goddess."

Remy Durrand went to the US in search of a certain woman but, instead, he meets Rose. Months later, she is still on his mind and he's shocked and confused when she turns up in Monaco as a new employee of his company. He's keeping deep secrets - secrets that could destroy any connection he's made with Rose. And, he's not prepared to let her go yet. Somehow, she has seeped under his skin and, as time goes on, he's prepared to do whatever it takes to keep her.

"My movements are frantic as I try to f*ck my madness and possession into her. I want to be deep inside her, own her. Leave my mark."

Gah! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was humorous, intriguing, and super sexy! Remy and Rose had combustible chemistry. I adored the sizzling tension between them. Remy felt like a true Frenchman - he was romantic, sexy and pretty poetic. I loved his POV chapters. His adoration of Rose was absolute. Rose was gutsy, kind, and didn't put up with any nonsense. Her attraction to Remy was undeniable and I loved that she tried to stick with her principles. I loved her friendship with Charles and Fee, and I admired her for looking past the privileged trappings of Remy's life to see the man he truly was. There was also a touch of suspense, which made their story even more exciting. This is the first time I've read this author and I can't wait to try more of her books.

Well, well, well… Je suis très surpris de voir à quel point c’est bon. J’ai adoré Remy!

Excuse me, I am off to literally prowl through Donna Alam’s back catalogue.

While I do just that, I’ll just leave this here:

Going into this I had no real expectations at all, not many friends have reviewed this and the author was completely unknown to me. All I knew was that this had a smoking hot cover (I mean, who is he? Feel free to let me know and I might stalk him too, but I digress ) and a blub that sang to me…

So I am very pleased to say that this was such a good read. The chemistry between Rose and Remy was there from the very start. I found the storyline to be refreshingly original and the story flowed seamlessly. Whilst it is not overtly funny per-se, the story had me chuckling at parts.

Remy is a sexy French wolf who neglects to tell Rose he can speak English. Her English confessions to him and his internal responses during their first meeting were so much fun.

This is not a short read, it is a full length book which I liked, the twists and turns kept me turning the page and the secondary characters in this were all great too.

(audiobook) That was a surprising story. Most of it is quite humorous and definitely romantic and sexy, and then, in the last few chapters, it takes a dark turn. What a twist.

Rose helps Remy after she injured him. She has a hot night with the French man before he disappears. Fast forward a few months, and Rose is hired to work at a hotel in Monaco owned by… you guessed it… Remy. Clearly the man lied to her. And it’s only the first lie of many.

I have to admit that I was annoyed with Rose when she kept forgiving Remy for his lies and deceptions. And manipulations. Yes, I could see he had real feelings for her, and he wasn’t using her exactly. Just his motivations and way of doing things were suspicious. And instead of coming clean every time she uncovered one of his lies, he kept secrets.

I also understand why he didn’t reveal everything to her. Kind of. He had trust issues, and for good reasons. Also some mysteries are better uncovered in secret. I get that. But it was detrimental to his relationship with Rose, even after courting her for months with gifts. As it is, it was still an interesting character arc, as he has to choose between finding the truth, and keeping Rose.

I found it a bit weird that a French man in Monaco decided to speak English almost all the time, even with other French people, but of course it was easier for the author. And she did mostly a good job with French sentences when used. Some of them were appropriate idioms. Some of them looked more like bad translation though. All in all, not the worst French I’ve read.

And one of the best French I listened to. Both narrators did mostly well with the French sentences. The male narrator, though, who kept a French accent even while recording in English, was amazing. Some of his sexy French words with barely an accent made me swoon hard. All in all, they both did great with their character’s emotions.

Quickie

- Series: One night forever #1 (can be read as a standalone, and connected to another series by the author)
- Hashtags: #billionaire romance #office romance #one night stand #French character
- Triggers: mild violence and assassination attempts, rape threat, drug use
- Main couple: Rose Ryan & Remy Durrand
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 5/5
- + some of the French sentences were written–and said–almost perfectly…
- – … but not all of them

This was my first Donna Alam ARC, but I've already read some of her books.

I do not know how I feel about this book, I'm sorry. I almost did not finish it.

It was really exciting in the first quarter. There were fluttering of butterflies in tummy. How they met and had a brief but memorable encounter... it was funny and swoony. But as I went along, I don't know it felt like the book lost momentum somewhere in the middle.

The anticipation of getting together is what makes a love story exciting and gripping... it's why I wished the heroine played hard to get, or at least a little bit and not succumb to the male lead's charms after one meeting... both main characters seemed indecisive of what to do with the other, almost to the point of annoying frustration—whether to stay away from from each other or not.

It wasn't all bad. Overall, I did enjoy it. This is probably just me feeling this way, having an off moment with this book.

I read the blurb for Liar Liar and knew I had to read the book. I love everything French and everything France and knew I would be hooked.

This book is so entertaining and witty and had me smiling and laughing. It’s quite the adventure. With a great plot and likable characters, Donna takes us on a ride with ups and downs I didn’t want to get off of.

A must read!

After this book, it'll be hard to convince me that there's anything more seductive than the french language. I've always heard its the language of love and now I completely agree. This book was witty, funny, charming and thoroughly sexy!

Remy and Rose first meet in her apartment building when Rose mistakes him for an attacker and hits him in the head with a purple dildo. He loses consciousness and she takes him to the hospital to make sure he's okay. To her surprise, this stranger she just beat up is a smoking hot Frenchman who she wants to lick all over (which eventually happens when she spends the night with him).

The morning after, he disappears but they meet again three months later, when Rose unsuspectingly gets a job working for Remy- who, by the way, turned out to be a multi-millionaire business mogul. Remy never forgot how kind she was to him and how she made him feel, so when they meet again, he's decided he isn't walking away. And so begins his extravagant methods to win Rose's heart, but there are some things he's keeping secret. Hopefully they don't blow up in his face.

Honestly, Rose was the sh*t. She was so strong. Growing up poor, she learned to not take anything for granted and to be appreciative of her opportunities. She was also incredibly witty, not to mention she knew just how to bring Remy to his knees.

Remy being a Frenchman already has an advantage with his sexy accent but he became even hotter whispered dirty words to Rose with sad accent. He's dominant in the boardroom and the bedroom- you love to see it. But he also has a sweet side to him, and although he effed up a couple of times, he was still hopelessly devoted to Rose.

Their chemistry was off the charts, and believe me it only got hotter when they dirty talked in English and French.

The overall story was very light and fun. However, it did drag on a bit in the middle. I felt that there were some scenes that didn't necessarily need to be there because they added nothing to the overall plot. But, other than that, the entire book was thoroughly enjoyable. The supporting characters making the book even more enjoyable (I really hope Rhett gets his own story!).

Swoon worthy French accent

Every women reacts to men with accent regardless of language and vice versa i think.......it adds to the appeal of the person. Remy on the otherhand took it to a new level and poor Rose didnt even know what hit her. Love the fact shes beautiful in an unconventional way, not full of herself but very kind and helpful. I enjoyed the comedy and LOL moments shes got such a sense of humor funky and corky. Donna mixed steamy romance, travel and humor in this story. Fun to read and entertainment.

Editing issues

Needs editing. I'm not sure if it's the writer or editor that does this but when your writing what someone is speaking you use " ", when joining 2 words in a conjunction you use '. These 2 things are not interchangeable!!!

Seriously, what is my problem? I have a bunch of Donna’s books on my TBR list, but this is my first read from her. I super enjoyed, but now I want to read more of her books and I have a feeling that my list will never reach an end.

First of all, this book is freakin’ huge! But the story is funny, steamy, with romance, twists, drama, mystery and a lot more. If you enjoy an office romance where the couple starts as lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers-again and a lot of French accent sexiness, this is your jam, hop on board!

Remi and Rose they are very opposites, at first I thought the only thing they had in common was their chemistry and the first letter of their name. Rose is an American who moved to Monaco to work just to find Remi as her boss, he is the same man she met before but with a very different personality.

She is sassy and easy going, he is mysterious, broody and hot! It was funny to read their progression during the story and their banter was too good. There are a lot of secrets and lies going around, ones that can bring some danger to them.

Although I liked a lot the book and loved the foreign accent aspect (it was hot a lot of times), sometimes I felt a little tired with the whole translation from french to english. But it didn’t put me down at all.

I loved the ending and as you may already know, authors can win me over with a good bonus epilogue! Yes yes yes! I hope I’ve got to read more about some other characters in the future!

The blurb of Liar Liar was interesting and I love a book filled with the secrets and manipulations. To be honest, I found the dialogue and monologue of the characters a little over the top at the beginning and I almost DNF’d the book. However, I slowly warmed up to the story and characters as the book went on.

Remy and Rose’s relationship began with an accident and the insta-lust between them were electric. Their reunion several months later led to a swoon-worthy courtship that was filled with lots of unexpected twist and turn. I loved the witty banter and bickering between the couple and their chemistry was undeniable.

Apart from the romance, the mystery of Remy’s secret and his near-death experiences were suspenseful and engaging. I kept guessing who was behind all the “accidents”. All of the mysteries were wrapped up rapidly at the last 5% of the book.

I find that the length of the book a little too long. It was with a lot of unnecessary details about the rich and famous of Monaco. It was like a mini tour guide to where to shop and party in Monaco and a guide to the different luxuries and high-end brand names.

It is an enjoyable read and suitable for anyone who is looking for a billionaire romance with a little suspense.

I volunteered to provide an honest review of an advance complimentary copy of this book.
