The Heir by Joanne Rock is the final installment in the author’s Dynasties: Mesa Falls series. It’s a story I’ve been anxiously awaiting as it ties up some of the loose ends from previous books in the series and it did not disappoint!

Nicole Cruz has been trying to find the identity of the father of her orphaned nephew. She knows that the bond between the men who run the Mesa Falls resort runs deep, and that one of them could be his father. She’d even managed to work at the ranch for a few weeks in order to investigate before being fired. But now she and her nephew have been invited to the resort, and she hopes it’s to give them the answers they are looking for.

Rancher Desmond Pierce is one of those men, and he suspects the truth – that his deceased friend Zach, a young man who died under unsettling circumstances when they were teenagers is the boy’s father. He and the men who run the resort started it as a way to memorialize Zach. He’s determined to protect Zach’s memory, but he also wants to figure out if Zach could have fathered a son, a boy that his mentor Alonzo had long been secretly supporting before Alonzo’s death. When sparks fly between Nicole and Desmond, will their competing agendas get in the way of their growing feelings for each other?

I’ve enjoyed every book in this series (each has a complete couple romance) and the finale answers some lingering questions while giving a sexy romance between Nicole and Desmond. When Nicole’s sister died and she took custody of her nephew Matthew, she started to investigate who Matthew’s father could be, and she is sure it’s one of the men who run the resort. But she’s also discovered a link between her sister and Zach, whom she can’t find any information about. It turns out this is deliberate, as Zach’s death had been covered up by the school and his friends.

Desmond is determined to protect Zach’s reputation but if it can be proven that Zach is Matthew’s father, he feels it’s his duty to care for him. Desmond’s attraction to Nicole is inconvenient but he can’t deny it, nor can she, leading to some sexy scenes between them. The story blends their romance with the uncovering of surprising revelations. I liked the characters, the plot, and this finale is a fitting end to the series.

THE HEIR by Joanne Rock is the sixth book in the Dynasties: Mesa Falls Series. It’s the story of Nicole Cruz as she’s trying to find out the paternity of her 13 year old nephew, Matthew. After the untimely death of her step-sister, Lana, from a brain aneurysm, Nicole is the sole guardian for Matthew.

Mattie is an extremely intelligent and talented child, but also one that requires special needs. Structure helps which makes the expensive boarding school he attended all the more important now that he has to make adjustments due to the loss of his mother. Although the school expense are presently being covered by profits from a tell-all book written Alonzo, Desmond’s mentor, Nicole still worries about being able to support and do right by her nephew, who she wants nothing but the very best for, in the future. Finding his father and making him become financially responsible for his son without fighting her for guardianship is her only goal at the present. Lana had made statements leading Nicole to believe that one of the partners that owned Mesa Falls Ranch may be Mattie’s father. If accepting Desmond Pierce’s offer to come back to Montana will help her in that pursuit, then so be it.

Desmond, part owner of Mesa Falls Ranch, knows from paternity tests already ran that none of the existing owners of the ranch, himself included, are Mattie’s father. He still wants to explore the possibility of Zach, his deceased best friend, might be this boy’s father. The partners built the ranch and run it in honor of their friend, who died all too young back when they were all in school. Maybe seeing the boy and learning about him might help him see some resemblance to Zach. He knows if this is the case, he will do right to honor his friend and will feel responsible for this boy from now on doing so freely.

From their first video phone call, there were sparks flying between Nicole and Desmond shocking them both as to how soon and strong they were. Desmond is all business and has no time for a woman in his life and Nicole is completely occupied with her job and caring for her nephew taking those responsibilities seriously to even think about a man.

Can Nicole and Desmond fight the attraction and keep it all business between them? Can Nicole see herself with a man like Desmond? Will Desmond’s help come at a price? Can Nicole keep her resolve to keep Mattie her number one priority? What secrets will Nicole find out about her sibling and Desmond of his friend? Along the way, will they find a fox in the chicken house? Will the light be shined on Mattie’s father from evidence they find? Is Mattie himself one of those clues?

THE HEIR is most definitely a story that will reel you in from the first page and keep you turning pages to the very end on the exciting trip to finding Matthew’s father and the sizzling heat that ignites between Nicole and Desmond along the way. It’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!

Although part of a series, Joanne Rock wrote THE HEIR where it can most definitely be read as a standalone book. This is the first book in the series I’ve read and I had no problem with characters or storyline. I will say that I’m so enthralled with this book that I will definitely be going back and reading the other books in this series. Wonderful author and great book!

Okay, so the cover doesn't match the mc's at least not Desmond..

And... it would have been nice if it had been more clear that this book was one of many, so I didn’t start with book4 or 6 or what nr it is. It can be read out of order with little confusion. But would have been nice to know before I started reading so I could have read the others first. But now I'm probably not going to read the first books in the series.

I felt nothing for the two main characters. Their chemistry was only physical and I don’t remember getting butterflies a single time... so disappointing...

Somebody doesn't know how and when to use a prologue.

Someone forgot a "t" in Matthew on page 12. Good start.

Page 30
You know... when you are a creative writer... YOU CAN FIND A BETTER AND NOT OVERUSED NAME FOR A HORSE LIKE FUCKING SUNDANCER!!!! THERE'S EVEN A MOVIE CALLED SUNDANCER!!! THERE'S EVEN A FAMOUS RACEHORSE CALLED THE SAME.... STOOOOOP!!!!

Page 79
...... Spirit? Really? For a buckskin horse? How original.....

***from here on there can be spoilers, so look at the nr. And decide if you want to continue.***

Page 100
1/3 page to make her orgasm? That was quick.

Page 104
Amazing sex? Is that your take on amazing sex? Oh sweet babygirl.. then you know nothing about great sex. At least not on paper.

I'm about 50% in and I still don't understand why Nicole wants to find Matthews's father when she's that scared of losing him to someone who will claim him.

I'm now 3/4 through the book and realised that they only talked about Zach telling them he was gay one time and hasn't been brought up since.

And... it's like Nicole has forgotten that her sister probably had a relationship with a student and that by revealing Zach may be the father it could make her sister look bad. So a thought from her thinking that it was more important for her nephew to know who his father is would be more important than the sister's name being tarnished would have been good for the story.

Second sex scene:
So uninspiring... both those scenes didn't make the butterflies flutter at all. Very disappointing!

Page 177
What pendant? We haven't heard of that before. Not from what I recall at least...

Page 206
(He dragged his chair closer to hers. Right next to hers) excuse me what????

Page 211
(She trailed her fingers over his lips...) they are having a deep conversation and she can't think of anything but sex... seriously..like in since he came to her house she has had nothing but his body in her mind!! And definitely vice versa.

Page 213
(And he was as good as his word because he absolutely made her a believer.) ... excuse me while I go out and puke! So cringe...

The end... and we as readers, never got to meet the boy the book was basically all about...

This was the final book in this series of the six men that went to the elite private school of Dowdon, where their best friend Zach died in an accident devastating them all and as they started Mesa Falls in Montana a resort, and an eco-friendly ranch in his memory. About the time Zach passed one of the teacher's at the school wrote a tell all book about some of the students as adults from the school that was very scandalous making a great deal of money with all of the proceeds going to his student teacher during the time Zach died. She left the school unexpectedly a few days before the accident with no explanation. It was later discovered that she was pregnant, her son Matthew now fourteen years old, and his mother, Lana passed a year ago leaving his Aunt Nicole Cruz as his guardian. She was now looking for his father, but her sister never told anyone who he was. She was looking at the Maza Falls six for answers, since they rotated the responsibility leadership each time something came up, and it was Desmond's turn to take care of the problem, he was to handle this. They knew none of the surviving six was Matthew's father, but they did not know about Zach. He did not know where to go for answer, but where the trail lead them was to more heartbreak and betrayal within the group. From the moment he had contact with Nicole, he knew he was in trouble, because he could not stop thinking about her and wanting to protect her. He immediately lost all objective. This was a wonderful story with mystery, intrigue, and a side of romance.

Five friends who went in together to buy a ranch in memory of their best friend Zach who died in an accident when they were 17 find themselves caught in a possible scandal as to who the father of a 13 year old boy might be. Nicole the aunt is on a mission to find out who is the father of Matthew her sister Lana son. Desmond is one of the partners who job it is to find out if the boy is one of their son and if so how they should handle keeping it from becoming a scandal.. The story follows the twist and turns of who Lana was and how she possibly knew the men involved. Desmond who is taking the lead in getting to the bottom of the child identity has to deal with the boys' fiercely protective aunt, Nicole. She sees the partners as rich men who have always had it easy because they were born rich. As the story unravels there are quite a few secrets that are brought to light and each one reveals another part of the story as well as bringing you closer to the father of the boy. Of course the story is also about the feelings that are beginning to develop between Desmond and Nicole. Both are trying to keep each other at arms length not trusting that one or the other has plans that are not in the best interest of all parties involved or the child.

Nicole Cruz becomes the guardian of her nephew Mattie after the death of her sister. While Nicole is still in the healing stage from her sister’s death, she is trying to unravel secrets about the paternity of nephew.

Desmond Pierce is a casino owner and rancher and he has hired a PI to investigate Nicole who once worked for Mesa Falls but was fired. He apologizes for her being fired but Nicole still wants to know about her nephew’s paternity because someone has been secretly paying for him to attend a private school and her sister never informed her who is Mattie’s dad.

Desmond invites Nicole back to Mesa Falls and asks her to bring Mattie with her; but Nicole has stipulations of her own she wants everyone to submit to a paternity test and Desmond agrees. Nicole arrives on the Mesa Falls private jet but Mattie is nowhere in sight. Desmond has motives of his own; he is very much attracted to Nicole.

The plot is thickening who is Mattie’s father, could it be Desmond or another member of Mesa Falls, will Desmond act upon his attraction to Nicole, how will Nicole respond to Desmond’s attraction. This is definitely a must read. The characters and mystery are the making of a good read.

Joanne Rock's The Heir seems a fitting conclusion to the Mesa Falls series. Sexy, rich Desmond is inexplicably drawn to Nicole, a fierce guardian of the young Matthew. Through twists and turns building from the start of the series, the final match is set to be made.

The Mesa Falls settings are beautiful and romantic scenes unfold in this beauty. The descriptions leads one to want to move there...like now! Airplane trips, horseback riding, and a tree house are a few backdrops to the emerging romance. Between the gorgeous imagery of the Ranch, to Desmond's home, it's clear that Mesa Falls is the place to be.

Rock's characters show clear connection to each other and there is plenty of heat. While Nicole is well-rounded on her journey to protect her nephew, Desmond's instant attraction is not as easy to follow. While their paths cross in a sensical fashion, his motivations seem less developed until the final half of the book. Luckily, there are enough steamy scenes and misunderstandings to carry us along. The book is meant to tie the Mesa Falls series up in a bow, and it successfully brings closure to the world.

This is my first-time reading books by this author. I read “The Heir” Mesa Falls Dynasties book # 6 first and now that I have books 1-5; I will be reading them next.

There’s mystery, secrets, suspense, awesome chemistry and passion between the main characters.

Nicole Cruz is guardian to her nephew Mattie after her sister die and she is determined to find out who is her nephew’s father. Nicole is very protective of her nephew not letting anyone near him.
Desmond Pierce is a rancher and casino owner with secrets of his own. He is there for Nicole trying to make things right.

Inquiring minds will want to know what will it cost Desmond when his secrets are revealed? Will Nicole be able handle whatever she finds out. Is there going to be a HEA for Nicole and Desmond. How will Mattie handle the news of who his father? Not revealing anything get your copy you most definitely enjoy the last book in the Mesa Falls series.

With her family still trying to heal after the passing of her sister Nicole is determined to find out is the father of her nephew Matthew which is why she finds herself back in Mesa Falls. She is a woman with a strong sense of values who only wants the best both financially and emotionally for her nephew so she can’t afford to be distracted by her attraction to Desmond.

Desmond’s attraction to Nicole is a complication he doesn’t need as due to his past he doesn’t believe his future will include love or a family of his own. As their investigation into the truth escalates so does the chemistry between them but when all is revealed will this be the beginning for them or the end?

Nicole is a woman who would do anything for her family and Desmond is the same way when it comes to those he cares about. There are a few surprises and setbacks along the way but they couldn’t be a better match.

4 1/2 STARS!

A delectable ending to a scandalous series! With the sixth and final book in her Dynasties: Mesa Falls series Joanne Rock delivers a satisfying conclusion with secrets unraveled, passion unleased and stakes higher than ever to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Nicole is strong-willed and protective of the nephew who just may be at the heart of the Mesa Falls mystery. She might melt when in the very vicinity of Desmond Pierce, but she's not going to let him have access to Mattie until she knows what secrets he's hiding.

Desmond seems to let the task he has in mind slide right out of the window when Nicole enters his realm. He's determined to make things right ... especially if what they suspect turns out to be true. He just never expected the fireworks that happen when she's near.

I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves a bit of mystery mixed with passion and drama. This close-knit group was fun to get to know.

This series "Mesa Falls" has been such a good series and the author has made every book in the series so explosive. This is book number six and it is the last book of the series and Joanne didn't hold back her pen at all. When I read the book I was page turning as this series has been one of the best series that I have read so I wanted to know how it was going to end. The story line has always been about who fathered who and why someone jumped or did he jump to his death ? Of course, Joanne always throws a little romance in there just to throw the curious babe in the red dress off her course. Joanne hit a grand slam with this ending book!

I received this book from the author and the review I gave was my own honest review and true not at all influenced by the author by sending me this book !

This is book six and the final book in The Mesa Falls Series and it is Nicole and Desmond's story and what a way to end this brilliant series. There are so many twists and turns in this story that it makes your head spin but in a good way and the chemistry between Nicole and Desmond is so strong that you can feel it coming of the pages of this book. The characters and storyline pulled you in right from the first page and as the secrets are revealed the more addictive this story becomes. I have read many of Joanne Rock books and I have enjoyed every single one of them and I look forward to reading many more in the future as she is a brilliant author and writer and certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention.

The Heir by Joanne Rock is the sixth book in the Mesa Falls series. This book is a stand alone but I highly suggest reading the rest of the series first. This will help you with the introductions of the characters throughout the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Nicole Cruz is raising her nephew and is looking for answers to his parentage. She will stop at nothing to make sure this child gets the life he deserves as well as the answers to who his father is.

Desmond will honor his deceased friend Zack no matter what. He will search to the end of the earth to help find answers for Nicole that way he can ensure Zack isn't portrayed in poor light. This is a very good short read. I finished it in just a few hours.

Nicole is a fierce momma bear protecting her nephew’s interests. And she sees Desmond as one of the biggest threats to his safety and stability. The initial animosity between this pair lights their chemistry up. It’s no wonder that they go from enemies to lovers. I feel like I’ve come to the series kind of late, since I was only introduced to the Mesa Falls Dynasty with book five, The Rancher. But I knew right away that I wanted to know how their mystery was going to wrap up. This was not at all what I was expecting. There are twists and unexpected revelations around every corner. I love where this leaves our characters, yet I’m a little sad that it’s over already.

The final secret is revealed in “The Heir”, the last installment in Joanne Rock’s Dynasties:Mesa Falls six book series.

Nicole Cruz returns to Montana to find out the truth about her nephew’s father.
Desmond Pierce, one of the owners of Mesa Falls Ranch, agrees to help, but only to learn the secrets he believes Nicole has been hiding.
Their attraction is immediate, threatening to derail them from the real reason they’re together.

Ms. Rock weaves the mystery of secrets past with a scorching romance between Desmond and Nicole.
I enjoyed spending time in Mesa Falls and if you haven’t visited yet, I recommend you do.

This is Book 6 in the Dynasties: Mesa Falls Series and my first read by this author. I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. As it wraps up the plot threads that extend across the entire series, we also get the steamy romance between Desmond and Nicole. The connection and the hot chemistry between these likeable characters are undeniable as they navigate through the unique plot. Secrets are unraveled and passion is unleashed to solve the overarching mystery. Reading the series in order is highly recommended.

The Heir is the 6th and final book in the Dynasties: Mesa Falls series by Joanne Rock. I don't think that the book should be read as stand-alone because I felt like I was missing on things the whole time I was reading the book. I was disconnected from the story and I couldn't warm up to it, to be honest. There were some interesting parts, I will admit that, but even that wasn't able to capture my attention. Desmond didn't do much for me as the hero of the novel and Nicole was lukewarm. I am sorry to say this, but I truly just felt distant from the story and the characters.

Nicole is determined to find the father of her nephew, Matthew. Lana her sister dies and now Nicole is his guardian. She goes and meets Desmond for answers, but the mystery goes from there. This book answers questions and uncovers secrets. There is so much going on. Then the growing relationship between Nicole and Desmond. They want to avoid a scandal but at what costs. This book has twists and turns and lots of action. This is a wonderful story.

This book has a continuing theme in it from previous books, and while it isn't necessary to have read them prior to reading this one, it would have enhanced the reading of this one. Even so, this author writes well and filled in enough background for me to enjoy the book. I loved the plot as well as the characters of Desmond and Nicole (and the others from the previous books). I would definitely recommend reading this series in order as this last book gives away the answer to the mystery.

I hate to see the "Dynasties: Mesa Falls" series to end. I so enjoyed this story and like how it wraps up this whole series and any lingering questions. Nicole has been made the guardian of her nephew. Now, with Desmond's help, she trying to find her nephews father. The attraction between the characters is undeniable. This story has secrets, betrayal, ups, downs, twists and turns. It is so nicely developed and i love the characters. *I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*

Nicole is seeking the answer to her nephews paternity and to protect him as well. His mother, her sister, has passed away and she is the child's guardian. So initially she and Desmond, both seeking answers for their own reasons, are not inclined to like or trust one another. But that passionate emotion soon turns to passion as they continue to follow the mystery and seek information. I will not spoil the outcome as I want others to enjoy the book and series as much as I have.

Curiosity has me opening this one. Desmond goes and helps Nicole but it does come with some obstacles. Secrets and attraction being some.but would you really call the one that? You know though about secrets when they come to the light other things happen. She does do and want things for her nephew. Also some answers that would also be one of them. Thing is it is not all so simple and the path of this and them is what keeps us turning those pages of this one.

Loved the stunning conclusion of Dynasties: Mesa Falls series!
Nicole and Desmond each have an agenda to protect their nephew or their deceased friend’s memories. What follows is a meeting of the minds and bodies to reach their end game. The plot twist of finding out that one of their own didn’t deserve their deep-abiding friendship is a show stopper to the story and the key to unlocking the mystery of Nicole’s nephew. Absolutely loved this series!

Oh, this brought some mystery and suspense with some white-hot chemistry. I couldn't put this down. The chemistry between Nicole and Desmond is explosive and I was sucked into them discovering Matt's father. It wasn't something I expected but should have known the author would throw something like that in.

Nicole is looking for the father of her nephew and Desmond is going to help her because she thinks it may be one of his partners. This mystery leads to lies and deceit and shows that all people that you think are your friend, are not. Desmond must face the fact that he needs Nicole and must face the lies of the past to find the truth of who fathered her nephew.
