Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author Nancy Robards Thompson has worked as a newspaper reporter, television show stand-in, production and casting assistant for movies, and in fashion and public relations. She started writing fiction seriously in 1997. Five years and four completed manuscripts later, she won the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart award for unpublished writers and sold her first book the following year. Since then, Nancy has sold more than 50 books and found her calling doing what she loves most – writing mysteries, romance, and women’s fiction full-time.
I am loving Nancy Robards Thompson’s Wedding Bell Mysteries! A Crime of Fashion is the second book in the series. The fast-paced novel features bridal boutique owner and mystery writer Maddie Bell and her event planner daughter Jenna. I loved the fun Mother-Daughter vibe in the novel, the hint of romance between Maddie and Jackson and the small town setting in Hemlock, North Carolina. Maddie and her Jenna are co-chairing a charity event with a murder mystery theme. Bestselling author Kellan Corsi is the celebrity guest star in this year’s Successful You Fashion Showcase. Before she became a best-selling author, Kellan was a member of Maddie’s writers group; the Hemlock Homicide Heroines (HHH). Loved that the fashion show gave the group of writers a chance to reconnect. Kellan is the most successful member of the group. Her first book was a best seller and is being made into a movie—and several members of the HHH are extremely jealous of her success. So, is it really a big surprise when Kellan is murdered during cocktail hour? The characters is the novel are fabulous! I loved Olivia—she was quite the diva and my prime suspect during the murder investigation! Olivia accused Kellan of plagiarism and that caused a lot of hard feelings in the group. The relationship between MJ and Olivia was interesting. Loved the conversations between MJ and the HHH members. MJ is a mother hen and was always the first to defend Olivia. The small town setting was an important in the story line as most of the characters were connected. The clever plotting in A Crime of Fashion kept me guessing until the last page! I loved figuring out the clues and learning more about Kellan and the HHH members. Loved that this book focused a bit more on Maddie’s sleuthing abilities and her feelings toward Jackson. Maddie was determined to figure out the identity of the killer! I could imagine the stylish Maddie hopping through a window to snoop through a suspect’s office without wrinkling or smudging her outfit! The scenes when Maddie and Jenna visited Kellan’s hotel room at night was perfectly written with just the right amount of suspense. Maddie and Jenna’s relationship is tested little bit when Maddie tells Jenna about her date with Jackson. Jenna’s reaction is spot on and significant to the romantic angle of the story. In an effort to keep my review spoiler free—I am not going to reveal the name of Kellan’s killer. I enjoyed how the story unfolded and the great plot twists and turns held my interest. Maddie and Jackson’s romance added to the storyline –it was relatable and very sweet—in keeping with the cozy mystery genre. It back to watching more Hallmark mystery shows for me as I was not able to figure out the identity of Kellan’s killer. If you are looking for a fabulous, fashionable whodunit with a great mother-daughter detective team, two adorable corgis and a group of envious writers—grab a copy of A Crime of Fashion! I can’t wait for the next book in the Wedding bells series—The Taming of the Shoe which will be available in 2021!
I just couldn’t connect with the characters, or their spats, and delusional attitudes. So I only read a few chapters, which were cleanly written. But for a group of women of disparate ages supposedly in a book writing group they could not get along. Back of hand on forehead, oh! The drama, not.

For the past decade, the Hemlock Ladies’ League, a local volunteer organization that my daughter Jenna and I belong to, has staged its Successful You Fashion Showcase, which supports regional organizations that aid women facing employment and financial challenges. Every year, the show has a different theme—last year it was tropical oasis; another year it was I Love Paris. In celebration of the tenth annual show, the committee, which I’m chairing this year, chose a murder mystery theme featuring a special celebrity guest star to walk in the show—Hemlock’s very own hometown girl who hit the big time, best-selling mystery author Kellen Corsi. Kellen’s first thriller not only became an instant number-one best seller, it launched her career and set her on a trajectory for literary superstardom. With one number-one best seller after another, everything she touches seems to turn to gold. Now, her first book is being made into a movie. The production company is shooting in Asheville. That’s one of the reasons she had been able to join us. After the show and our reunion weekend, she’s going to stop by the movie set. Is it any wonder her success has bruised some egos and stirred up enough professional jealousy to splinter our writers group? Because of that—or maybe in spite of it, I asked the other founding members of the Hemlock Homicide Heroines to walk in the show, too. Every year, local woman are invited to participate—some local celebrities and others who want to help raise money. Since my friends write mysteries, I figured they would be the perfect models for this year’s show. It’s a nice opportunity for us to join about a dozen other women from the community and help a good cause. It also provided a great excuse for a HHH reunion. Soon, it becomes clear not everyone was thrilled with Kellen’s success. As suspects multiply faster than designer knockoffs, Maddie and Jenna are determined to figure out who was resentful enough to kill over it. I enjoyed reading A Crime of Fashion by Nancy Robards Thompson, book two in her The Wedding Bells Mysteries. Bridal boutique owner and cozy mystery writer Maddie Bell and her daughter, Jenna, are in the midst of planning the annual July 4th charity fashion show. Maddie has asked her crime-writing pals to participate and included the hometown’s star; bestselling mystery author Kellen Corsi. When Kellen turns up dead, the mother-daughter team find themselves once again playing detective. Kellen’s death was staged to imitate the murder from the book that began her career. As Maddie soon learns, not everyone was happy with Kellens success and suspects start piling up. Maddie and Jenna are determined to figure out who was resentful enough to kill her.
I genuinely enjoyed reading this funny, sweet and intriguing book and had trouble putting this book down. Ms Robards Thompson kept me on my toes guessing who the killer was, until I turned the last page. Her writing had me feeling as if I was there, watching the events unfold. I never suspected the person who was the murderer. Great job stumping me!! I highly recommend A Crime of Fashion to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Headline: Hemlock, North Carolina's annual July 4th charity fashion show will not be held this year owing to the murder of its guest runway model. The crime was a surprise as everyone loved Kellen Corsi, who had it all: a successful novelist's career, a handsome husband and many friends. What was even more surprising was the method used by the killer to cause her death. As Kellen was a beloved friend of Maddie Bell, she and her daughter feel compelled to assist the police and uncover the author of this terrible death.
My glasses must have been foggy when I picked up this book; I didn't realise it was the second one in the series! Nevertheless, falling in with the characters and enjoying this book from the start was easy. I had two quibbles. Firstly, the characters (mostly the FMC) blithely broke the law without concern for their actions' consequences. (This felt hypocritical to me.) Secondly, the first book of the series was completely spoiled when, in one sentence, the means of death, perpetrator, and the outcome of the case were blatantly stated. Guess I won't need to read that one now!
A Crime of Fashion is a very readable cosy, but I recommend reading Slay Bells Ring beforehand.
I thoroughly enjoyed A Crime of Fashion, second in Nancy Robards Thompson’s Wedding Bell Mysteries series. Set in Hemlock, North Carolina this story sees mother and daughter team Maddie and Jenna amateur sleuthing their way around the murder of Maddie’s friend Kellen Corsi, a successful mystery writer who is back in town to help with a charity fashion show. As this is a cosy mystery, the tone is light. I loved the supportive relationship between Maddie and Jenna and the way Jenna indulgently allows Maddie to lead her into doing things she otherwise might not. Jenna’s not the only one allowing Maddie to get away with a bit of snooping when she probably ought not. Hemlock sheriff Jackson Bradley has a thing for Maddie and while not encouraging her he does tend to turn a blind eye. This story is paced well and while I guessed early on who the murderer was it wasn’t confirmed until the very end. My thoughts on how and why were also way off base, which meant when the ah huh moment arrived I was surprised. The moment in the last scene of the epilogue took me by surprise too, providing plenty of hope for a third book in this enjoyable series.
A Crime of Fashion by Nancy Robards Thompson is the second book in her cozy mystery series, Wedding Bells. Until this series I had only read romance by this author. Now I think I like her mysteries just as much maybe even more. Maddie Bell, a cozy mystery writer and bridal shop owner and her daughter, Jenna come upon the death of a bestselling mystery author right where they are planning a fashion charity event.
I like Maddie and Jenna who dive right into the mystery of this death. They make a great team working together. The police chief, Jack, who I also enjoy seeing in the stories along with local community and NC setting round out the story making it an intriguing read. Small town jealousy, great character development and an unusual murder kept me reading.
I read the first book but if you haven’t the author does a great job with background on characters when needed.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What was supposed to be a fun get together between Maddie Bell and her mystery writer friends, turns into a hunt for a killer, when one of the friends is found dead in her hotel room on her first day in town.
I was hooked on this story from the very start. The author did a great job with the plot and the character backgrounds. Several of the characters showed motive to commit the crime, but I still couldn’t figure out who it was until the killer was revealed. This book ends with another surprise that I never saw coming. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. Even though this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
This is another well written book in this fun cosy mystery series and while you don't need to read the first book "Slay Bell Rings" as it is well covered in this story you should do yourself a favour and read it
Maddie Belle and her daughter Jenna run the local bridal shop Maddie is also friends with a lot of the local girls who are members of the Hemlock Homicide Heroines a group of writers who often get together. One of those members bestselling mystery author Kellen Corsi has returned for the 4th of July festivities The only problem she has been found dead in her hotel room and it will be up to Jenna and Maddie to discover who the killer is There are plenty of suspects as there was plenty of Jealousy over her success Can they solve yet another murder in their small town

Fun cozy mystery read which pulled me in from the beginning.
Maddie's reunion of her writing group, when a former member comes back to town, doesn't go as planned when Kellen is found dead and bees are buzzing around her. A missing dress, jealous writers, and unanswered questions lead Maddie and her daughter Jenna to do some sleuthing on their own.
Finding the missing dress puts them in danger with a message from the killer. Time is running out... and things are pointing to someone close to her... can Maddie and Jenna, or her law enforcement love interest, Jackson, find the killer before the killer finds her?
This is book 2 in the Wedding Bell Mysteries and it can be read as a stand alone. Maddie Bell and her daughter, Jenna are in charge of the fund raiser fashion show in Hemlock, NC. They invited former resident and current best selling author, Kellen to walk in the show and she is murdered before she can do the runway. A good cozy with lots of potential murderers. The intro to book 3 is a good one and I can't wait for the chance to read it. The small town setting is well developed and the locals are all well defined and likable. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This series is getting better with each book. At first I thought of one character who killed Kellen and then it looked like someone else. In a way I was not suprised as to who really did it because the feelings between MJ and Olivia with the rest of the group was hateful, distrust and nasty. Of course, we have to throw in a little romance and book three should show us how things will turn out for Maddie and Jack....
A solid 3.75 stars ⭐️!!! This was definitely more if the more fun, exciting and cozy murder mystery books I have read. Unfortunately, the characters just did not stand out to me much but nonetheless, it was a fun book to read that ends on a wild cliff hanger.
Can see myself coming back to the series and finishing it off but unfortunately, nothing really grabbed my attention enough to want me to return to this series asap
I really enjoyed the book, the characters were good, while reading it yiu feel as if your sitting in your house with the characters around you filling yiu in on the gossip. I didn't work out who done it either which was good, kept you guessing to the end. Worth a read if you like a cosy mystery
I thought this was very good. There's a lot of good hints all throughout the book and I picked up on them instantly so basically by the first few chapters I knew who the killer was.
On another note, I hate that they spoiled the story of the book before this because now I probably will never read book 1 of this series.
This was bad. The killer was obvious from the beginning. The author gave all the details as plain as day about the boxes being unloaded from the car and the long sleeved sweaters in the heat! All the women did was talk about the killing and keep repeating themselves. BTW it is Sherlock Holmes, not Homes. Editing was lacking, writing was poor and mystery nonexistent.
Gilmore Girls meets Murder She Wrote set in the South. As an aspiring writer, I liked the writing group drama. I felt bad for figuring out the killer so fast though and basically waited for them to figure it out.
I truly enjoyed this and read it in one day....hated to put it down:-) I do recommend it, it's a little different in a very good way....sure keeps you in suspense;-)
