About the author

Suhas Shirvalkar (Devnagari: सुहास शिरवळकर ) (15 November 1948 – 11 July 2003) was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. Shirvalkar wrote Social Novels, Detective Stories, Short Stories, One Act Play, Newspaper Columns, Poems etc.

He authored more than 300 books including his well-known book "Duniyadari". Known for his detective-thrillers, he had also authored "Roopmati", a novel with a historical background, besides short stories, one-act plays. "Devaki", a Marathi movie based on one of his short-stories, won a State award for best story.

Duniyadari, a novel tracing the world of college-goers, was regarded a milestone in his writings.

The creator of characters like "Barrister Amar Vishwas [बॅ. अमर विश्वास], Firoz Irani [फिरोज ईराणी], Mandar Patwardhan [मंदार पटवर्धन] and Dara Buland [दारा बुलंद]" in his popular detective thrillers, he also managed to handle topics like medicine and astrology in great detail in his writings. His newspaper columns including "Ityadi-Ityadi, Vartulatim Mansa and Phalashruti" were well received by readers.

थोडक्यात सांगायचं तर शेखर आणि जाईमधील ही प्रेमकथा. शेखर लहान असताना त्याच्या आयुष्यात वहिनी म्हणून आलेली, त्याच्यापेक्षा वयाने मोठी असलेली, परिस्थितीमुळे लहान वयातच वयापेक्षा जास्त समजूतदार असलेली, नको असलेल्या नात्यांच्या बंधनात अडकलेली आणि ती तोडू पाहणारी पण अयशस्वी अशी ही जाई. तर दुसरीकडे स्वतःच मन का सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा यात गोंधळणाऱ्या, पोरवयातून तारुण्यात पदार्पण करताना नवनवीन क्षितिजं दिसू लागणाऱ्या शेखरची ही कहाणी. वय वाढत जाताना, परिस्थिती बदलत असताना,या दोघांमधलं नातं कसं बदलत जातं यावर आधारित ही कादंबरी, पण प्रेमाचा त्रिकोण किंवा प्रेम मग प्रतारणा किंवा साधारण अशा गोष्टींप्रमाणे ही गोष्ट नक्कीच नाही.

मुळात निरागस असलेलं माणसाचं मन सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठेमुळे, प्रवाहाविरुद्ध जायच्या भीतीमुळे कसं दबलं जातं, आपले विचार आणि निर्णय कसे सहजतेने बदलवतं (आणि practical कसं होत जातं) हेच साध्या सोप्या भाषेतून आणि कथेतून उलगडत जातं. विचारात बदल होत असलेले आपणही नक्कीच कधीतरी अनुभवलेले असतात. शेवटी, अगदी आवर्जून वाचावी अशी ही कादंबरी नक्कीच नाही, पण एकदा वाचायला सुरवात केली तर वाचून पूर्ण होईपर्यंत खाली ठेववत नाही हेही तितकंच खरं!
