This is my first book I ever read by Laura Ashwood but if this is how she writes I will be reading some more. This book is a fun and easy read that can just perk you up enough to make your day a little sweeter. This is a stand alone novel with a happy ending but I see more books in the future. It is marked as book 1 of 1 as of July 2023. As the description correctly states if you love hallmark movies this is a book for you.
Megan has always had a dream, to own her very own bakery, but as we all know dreams you make when you are young are often just that, dreams. But lucky for Megan she might have a chance to make this dream come true. To do so she will have to work and talk with Jake, her highschool sweetheart who broke her heart. Will she be able to overcome her heartbreak and move on or will she fall back into her old ways and get hurt again.
Jake, a single dad, who after his divorce, from his wanna be fancy ex-wife, moved back home to small town Caribou Falls in Montana. Even though the memories are bitter he wanted to give his son the best life he could have. When the contract comes across his desk to remodel the old main street bakery he starts thinking about his highschool sweetheart and her dream of opening her very own bakery. The surprise he receives when she is the owner of this place is beyond anything he ever could have imagined. Can Jake find a way that she will forgive him for the mistakes he made or is she going to turn it around and this time hurt him.
Laura writes in a fun and engaging way that makes you feel for the characters. I always enjoy finding new authors and as a fan of the big sappy happy ever after second chance romance I was absolutely not disappointed. And yes, I was certain of the outcome of the book. The twists and turns made this an enjoyable read and I would most certainly recommend you give it a try.
A Little Something Sweet is the first book in the Caribou Falls series by Laura Ashwood. Megan Turner never wanted to return to her hometown but her mom is sick and needs her help. Making the most of the situation, she restores a local bakery and makes it her own. What she didn’t count on is the handsome contractor to be her ex-high sweetheart, the one person she was hoping to avoid. Jake Sullivan lost the love of his life to a stupid mistake that broke Megan’s heart and left him a divorced single dad. Now, he just focuses on raising his son and building his business. When he is hired to do the renovation of Megan’s bakery, he is determined to keep it professional. But can a town filled with matchmakers ignite the spark again? A Little Something Sweet is a sweet second chance romance that is great for an afternoon of reading. It is a clean romance with no spice and a happily ever after. A fast paced story that kept me engaged and rooting for Jake and Megan. I loved both characters. They were both relatable, engaging and easy to love as they struggled with their lost love and hopes for a brighter future. Their interactions were great from cool indifference to obvious attraction. I loved watching the ice thaw between them and they acknowledged their remaining feelings. I also loved all their supporting characters and look forward to seeing a few of them with their own stories. If you love sweet romances with a happily ever after, I highly recommend A Little Something Sweet.
A Little Something Sweet is available in paperback, eBook and audiobook
A Little Something Sweet is exactly what this story is. It’s a lovely second chance love tale about Jake, a former major league baseball player, now carpenter, and Megan, a professional baker. They’d been high school sweethearts, but things didn’t work out between them. When Megan’s mother gifts her a bakery venue in her hometown, Megan is thrown back into Jake’s company.
Jake is now a family man, raising his young son alone. Spencer is a bright and lovable kid who could win over anyone’s heart. Megan has come home to help her mother deal with a serious illness. Will Jake and Megan be able live peacefully in the same town? Will sparks fly again between them?
This is a quick and enjoyable read.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book 🥰 it releases today 💃🏾
Can a little forced proximity, and a few determined matchmakers, convince Megan and Jake to take another shot at happily ever after? Maybe, but only if a particular pesky ghost from Jake's past doesn't ruin it first...
I loved Megan and Jake's story. It was beautifully written, and the faith aspect of it was perfect. Spencer, the teensy weensy matchmaker was cute. I do have a tendency to be skeptical about a child's propensity for mischievousness in the aspect of love, but I enjoyed the little six-year-old's role in it.
This book is a first in series, sweet and wholesome, second chance, single dad contemporary romance that Hallmark movie fans will adore. HEA guaranteed.
A Little Something Sweet is the perfect name for this book. This was a sweet romance between two souls who lost their way and are trying to find their way back to one another. The characters were very engaging and easy to "get to know" as a reader. Jake hurt Megan many years ago, and she does not care if she ever sees him again (or at least that is what she tells herself). Megan is fulfilling her dream of opening a bakery. Little do they know that their mothers are scheming to get them together! Jake also has a precocious child who wants to play matchmaker as well. This is a journey of forgiveness and fulfilling your dreams. This plays out just like a Hallmark movie! It is a clean, sweet romance that will leave a smile on your face!
A sweet, small-town romance by Laura Ashwood, this second-chance-at-love novel has everything fans of Love Inspired books adore: a hurt hero/heroine, still-burning attraction, misunderstandings, nosy/interfering mothers, and (of course) a second chance at the love that got away. Nothing's ever easy, though, with health issues, ex-wives, and six-year-old boys.
Ashwood creates vivid settings and character descriptions that help you feel like you're in rural Montana with Megan and Jake. I do wish I'd gotten to see more of their interactions to watch their chemistry bubble a little bit more, but that's because that's my favorite part of the story.
Overall, this is a great read for a summer weekend, especially for fans of Love Inspired romance novels.
A little something sweet Laura Ashwood 5⭐️ Second chances
A really sweet read, that was well worth the read. Megan and Jake had a past full of dreams for their future but one wrong decision stole their dreams. Megan has come back to her hometown to help her mum, but she hopes against hope she doesn’t bump into her old flame.
Well that’s not going to happen with two sets of meddling parents. What ensues is nothing short of delightful. Go pour yourself a cuppa and settle down to enjoy a lovely story.
I received a copy of this book from the author and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
This is the first book of The Java Cupid Romance Series. A clean romance, it was ideal for me when I wanted a short story to unwind. And to top it all, it is a second chance romance. The characters are lovable and realistic. I loved secondary characters too, who were the catalysts in the romance. The descriptions are detailed. I loved the story and recommend it to everyone, whether you love romance or not. It has love, romance, friendship, humour and most of all meddling mothers. I loved Spencer and his dating tips. I loved the writing on the coffee cup “Love is sweeter the second time around” I am looking forward to more books in this series and more by this author.
A small but nice book! The story is really nice and Megan is adorable! I love the "tragic" story between the two main characters and the fact that the timing was eventually right! If I'd ever have a child I'd literally want it to be like Spencer!! So smart and cute. The thing I loved the most was the love advice that Spencer gave to his dad, Jake, I laughed with my heart. It's an easy reading love story with a bit of comedy and nice humor. In general it's a good book and I would definitely recommend it. Personally I would like to be a bit bigger and some situations be more anylized.
If you are looking for a really good sweet romance, this is it! I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page of this second chance romance. Megan and Jake were high school sweethearts until he broke her heart. Megan had moved away from Caribou Falls to start a new life, but her mother becomes ill and needs her. Back to Caribou Falls she goes with the hope that she does NOT run into her old sweetheart. She cannot forgive him for what he did to her. Dreams begin to come true for Megan with some uncomfortable moments thrown in. This is a great short read with forgiveness and redemption thrown in.
Sweet story about forgiveness and trust. Mistakes of the past can be made right if you ask for forgiveness. Jake needs to prove he is not the person Megan remembers. Megan wants to Start a bakery business in town. The old bakery building needs repair. Megan's mom teams with a friend to find the perfect carpenter to help Megan. Fun story and little Spencer is such a cute kid! This story grabbed me from the beginning. Great writing and great story. This would make a wonderful Hallmark show.
She goes home to help her mother - and is given a building to open a bakery by her mother. Fully paid for - including the renovations needed. And then she sees who is doing the renovations - and is NOT happy. So they set up a schedule so neither of them have be in the building at the same time. When she meets his son, she falls in love with him — almost as much as the father!! But . . . . can they trust each other?
A wonderful start to a new series! This is a sweet second chance romance that was a joy to read. It is well written and has just the right amount of drama to keep you turning the pages. You will fall in love with Spencer. I laughed out loud when he started giving his Daddy dating advice. I loved everything about this book I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
A wonderful, sweet story that tugs at your heartstrings! A couple with a past who try to avoid each other, but in a small town that is almost impossible. Add in a young boy who is lovable and you have the perfect plot. Meddling mothers and interesting characters make for a delightful story. I am looking forward to more from Laura Ashwood! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
A Little Something Sweet contains within it’s pages some beloved tropes: Forced Proximity, Second-Chance Romance and a Single-Dad Love Story. The single dad trope gets me every time 🥹
This is a sweet, wholesome romance so there is no spice- but there is undoubtedly chemistry between the FMC and MMC 🔥 If you love Hallmark movies and that warm and fuzzy feeling that a romance can bring, this book is for you!
What a wonderful feel good book. I enjoyed the setting in Montana, the small town where Megan and Jake both grew up. They parted ways just out of high school. Jake married and had a short lived marriage that left him with Spencer, a cute and funny 6 year old son. Megan went to culinary school and worked away from home. Moving back to care for her ill mother put her back in contact with Jake. Can they survive a second chance at love? This is really a sweet and wonderful book.
When Megan saw Jake for the first time in the empty bakery, her heart stopped and angry flushed her face. Seven years had passed since he had left her for someone else. Now he was in her space and she wanted him gone. Jake had been hired and paid to remodel the old bakery and was shocked to see his only love seething in front of him. Can they make it right the second time around?
Jake and Megan’s second chance romance is just as the title says - a little something sweet! Spencer is adorable too. A lovely lazy afternoon read.
Faith element: very light faith arc for the heroine in story, nothing much for the hero aside from “attending church” Sizzle: a few passionate kisses not described in detail, sweet and squeaky clean. No blushing required. A stand-alone book/ first in series, no cliffhangers.
When Jake decided to mess up he did it royally. Laura Ashwood has written a fun second chance story that has a good story line, great characters, humor and romance. Thankfully Jake has wised up and Megan is forgiving. The fact that they still love each other and Spencer is pretty cute and irresistible helps. I really enjoyed this book.
This is a sweet story of second chance love. Seven years ago, Jake and Megan were in love, but a disagreement sent them in different directions. Now, Jake has a six year old son who gives him tips on how to get a girlfriend. And, two mothers conspire to get them back together. This is a very enjoyable story worth a second read.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Loved this sweet second chance story! Both back in their home town, Megan and Jake try to avoid each other seven years after breaking up. Their moms have other ideas.
Now forced to work together they realize they still love one another, but can only be friends... right?
A beautiful romance between magan and Jake. Magan didn't want to return to her hometown but was forced to because her mother was very sick.Jake returns back so that he can takecare of his son . Jake had broken Magans heart but as they had tp work together on the bakery they were forced to meet and there after life changed for them. A great read . I recommend this book to other readers.
A very enjoyable story of a second chance romance and a little boy who provides the name for a new bakery. The main characters are very lovable and still follow their dreams even when an old adversary tries to butt in. This book left me with lots of good, happy feelings. I was provided with an copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
High school sweethearts, torn apart by misunderstandings a bakery a second chance for two hearts. This book was awesome. The characters make you want to invite them over for dinner, and become good friends. Read this book, you will not be disappointed.
This is a fast & very enjoyable read ! It grabs you from the beginning & keeps your attention until the end. Jake & Megan were high school sweethearts who broke up & each went their own way. Eventually, they both run into each other for the 2nd time intheir hometown. Can it be A LIITLE SOMETHING SWEET or a little too late ❤️❗️
The title of this book is exactly what you are getting. A sweet second chance and a long lost love. She gets her bakery she dreamed about, and her childhood boyfriend gets the old Victorian house. Only after a unplanned twist send their lives in different directions. A very sweet story.
This was a very sweet romance book takes place in a small town, mmc is single dad with the toxic ex. This is one of those Second Chance romance books that I actually like I’m very selective with my Second Chance romance books because I don’t always like this circumstances for the second chance, but this one felt valid and understandable, and the slight miscommunication that happened for the break up the first go round, was not dwelled upon, and both main characters agreed that it should be left in the past and they should move forward from it, which really helped to open the door and help them get to know each other once more. I absolutely love it for this reason because I truly believe that when your relationship is built on open communication then anything is possible.
I enjoyed reading this book! A couple that had gone together all thru school but broke up over something silly are back in their hometown and both realize they never stopped loving the other! I recommend this book to everyone who reads romance books!
Meddling parents make this story really special. I loved the couple and the setting. The past these two shared made the story bittersweet at times and created the perfect conflict. I’m looking forward to more books in this series and more by this author.
