Tolstoj, oltre a essere un celebre romanziere, è stato anche un acuto pensatore, come testimonia la sua sterminata produzione letteraria. Questa antologia propone una selezione di scritti sociali e politici nei quali emerge in modo netto la sua sensibilità libertaria. È infatti a partire da un totale rifiuto del potere e della sua intrinseca violenza che Tolstoj delinea un'originale visione anarchica della società, peraltro strettamente intrecciata a una religiosità cristiana molto lontana da quella delle Chiese istituzionalizzate. Di attualità risultano le sue riflessioni sulle pratiche educative antiautoritarie, sulla nonviolenza (alla quale si ispira lo stesso Gandhi) e su temi come il vegetarianesimo o il rapporto uomo-natura che ne fanno un animalista e un ecologista ante-litteram. In questi scritti «eretici», Tolstoj dà voce a quell'esigenza morale che a suo avviso deve portare il singolo a non obbedire ad alcun potere esterno alla sua coscienza, tracciando così un inedito cammino verso la libertà, profetico per i suoi tempi e di estrema attualità per i nostri.

Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Николаевич Толстой; most appropriately used Liev Tolstoy; commonly Leo Tolstoy in Anglophone countries) was a Russian writer who primarily wrote novels and short stories. Later in life, he also wrote plays and essays. His two most famous works, the novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina, are acknowledged as two of the greatest novels of all time and a pinnacle of realist fiction. Many consider Tolstoy to have been one of the world's greatest novelists. Tolstoy is equally known for his complicated and paradoxical persona and for his extreme moralistic and ascetic views, which he adopted after a moral crisis and spiritual awakening in the 1870s, after which he also became noted as a moral thinker and social reformer.

His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him in later life to become a fervent Christian anarchist and anarcho-pacifist. His ideas on nonviolent resistance, expressed in such works as The Kingdom of God Is Within You, were to have a profound impact on such pivotal twentieth-century figures as Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tanto attuale, troppo attuale.
Se non c'avesse infilato dio ogni 3x2 sarebbe stato meglio e per me più condivisibile.
Ma comunque arrotondo 3.5 a 4.

Tutti dovrebbero leggere questo piccolo libro, perla di saggezza di un uomo speciale. Dopo tante riflessioni si definisce Anarchico Cristiano. Sembra di ascoltare un uomo saggio dei giorni nostri. Magari un padre.
