Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.

Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"

It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.

This was a fantastic listen; it's well-composed and quite engaging. I very much welcomed Grace Hamilton's unique approach to the EMP genre and the premise. Power grids are destroyed, and people are severely impacted, behaving erratically and violently. The primary basis of the storyline is survival, following a group of survivors and their efforts to make it in a new and hostile post-EMP world. The storyline is thrilling, intense, and action-packed, wrapped in revenge, slavery, vicious antagonists, secrets, difficult decisions, and unexpected twists. The ending was great, questions are answered, and everything wrapped up perfectly.

Considering the assortment of characters, I thought the character development was brilliant. The primary cast is well-rounded and relatable, and I was intrigued from the get-go. The interactions were natural, and the dialogue was a smooth flow. Additionally, the narration was spot-on. Matt Weight's performance was exceptional, portraying the characters, emotions, and suspense flawlessly. All in all, I really enjoyed the Supernova EMP box-set; it was definitely worth the listen, one I'll strongly recommend.

This is described as 4 books, but it is 1 story. In fact, the first 3 "books" end in extreme cliffhangers, a practice I despise. So, I'll review this as one story.

The events in this story are so contrived and improbable that it just seems ridiculous. There's actually one point in the story where the description has the sun rising in the west.

And Matt Weight's narration doesn't help. I don't think I've ever heard so many mispronunciations by a professional narrator before. His inflections are too often misplaced as well. Overall, it's an adequate performance and mediocre story at best.

EMP with a difference

This was an interesting twist to the EMP disaster story with the supernova creating almost not quite zombies so you had the triple threat of no technology, crazed murderous people and of course the bad guys who take advantage of the chaos. Then you set a broken family in the midst of all this and travel with them on their journey to hopefully become whole again. Some interesting and unusual story lines especially all the sea faring ones. An immensely enjoyable read even though Maxine did frustrate me somewhat.

First Matt Weight did an excellent job narrating and he’s moved to my top 10!
Anything Grace writes will blow you away. She will teach you things too. Her characters are real and alive. They feel like people you could know and be friends with. Do yourself a favor and pick up this series or any of her series.
