For Melody and Jeremy it was love at first sight--when they were eight years old. A dozen years later it is their wedding day. But Jeremy has disappeared! Vanished without a trace! Why would a man who was braiding white ribbons into the harness for his bride not show up? Can The Lovelorn help?
Nice to the in crossover with Christmas Rescue. I keeps notes on books I read and was able to fill in the spaces. Enjoy reading about subsequent generations. Well written and no women swooning or tripping.
First off, this book was once part of the "Yours Truly: The Lovelorn" series. That series was discontinued, so this book was changed slightly and is no longer part of a series.
This was an OK American historical romance, with mostly likable characters, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.
First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Melody and Jeremy.
Melody and Jeremy were both likable, but the book did not give enough information on their romance. It begins just before their wedding. Their romance was mentioned only in memories of their relationship, with very little detail.
I did think Melody forgave the woman who arranged for Jeremy's kidnapping a little too easily. I get that she was suffering from a head injury, and was in constant, terrible pain -- but her behavior was really destructive, and could have gotten Jeremy murdered.
My main problem with this book, though, was that it was incredibly hard to follow. There were so many characters, which were all introduced rapidly, and it was really difficult to keep them all straight. I thought the author should have concentrated on the main couple, and left most of the detail of the minor characters out. I didn't need so much information on the couple's friends and family (who was related to who, how old they were, who married who, etc...) -- I just wanted to know enough about the minor characters to understand their role in the story. I kept wondering why there was so much detail on so many minor characters.
This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Couldn't get into this book. Groom missing day of the wedding but she's more concerned about saving face rather than why he's missing and if he's ok. But a response from the Lovelorn sets her right. This is the second book I've read by this author and I find her style very boring. Way too much back story and the plot doesn't hold my attention. This one kept jumping back to when they were kids and had a bunch of random, useless information. And a sudden ending... I can't recommend this book and I won't be reading any more books by this author. It's not worth my time. But the other books in the series are good; try them. :)
Love the book! It's characters were realistic and the plot was great! I loved the flash backs that gave incite into the characters history together. Jeremy went missing on their wedding day and Melody set out to find him... I recommend you read this book to find out how this all unfolds, I believe you will enjoy the journey. Great job Elissa Strati!!
I’ve always been fascinated with advice columns so I find this one very much fun, especially having read the background of the column. Elissa Strati’s story is a good mix of romance, danger, humor and sadness. I enjoyed this story.
Two people growing up together are attracted to each other when meeting as children. This attraction simply grows over the years until a wedding is planned. The groom doesn't make the wedding which gave the story the mystery needed.
Great characters that all come together in time of need. Mystery with a touch of romance that was destined. This was a story that evokes emotions within the reader. A sweet short story.
