In For a Penny started out scorching hot and ended delightfully sweet. Penny and Scott were obviously in love and everything should have been easy breezy... but they weren't. Scott couldn't admit his love for Penny in words because those words would lead to expectations. He couldn't give her a home or children or forever. Despite the fact that his love for her was evident in his every word, touch and action, he was terrified of fully giving in. And for Penny, it was all heartbreaking. While all of their friends are enjoying love and bliss, she's full of doubt. Can her love give him the courage to face his greatest fears?

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. Scott was a dirty-talking hunk and Penny was the sweetheart of his dreams. I didn't like some of Penny's thoughts, but her heart was definitely in the right place. There's just something about this author's writing, the small town charm she injects into all of her stories, that just keeps me smiling right to the end. For all fans of the Whiskeys, this story is not to be missed.

From the moment I picked up Tru's book I have loved the Whiskey's. And I have enjoyed getting to know all of their family, both biological and adopted. All these books have been the perfect mix of love, romance, family and emotion. With enough chemistry to heat things up.

Both Penny and Scott have been involved in earlier couples’ stories but I really never pictured them together until they were. Scott's story was so emotional, and he was so stoic and felt so Closed off from everyone but his sisters I didn't really think of him as one of our heroes.

Penny was so sweet and giving I really could not picture her with Scott. But to see them together in Quincy's story I thought it was heading for heartbreak due to their different experiences. So, seeing them together was beautiful and I totally got over my reservation.

As with all the books, this could be read as a standalone and as a novella i was really impressed with how well all the characters were introduced without it taking up too much of the story. And not only did we get Scott and Penny, but we got more of our other couples further down the line. Plus, a little teaser of Tracey and Diesel. Perfect afternoon read.

Reading a novella you usually don't get a bunch of emotions but in this read you get ALL THE FEELS!!!

It's no surprise that I am a huge fan of Melissa Foster's when you read books like this, a short quick read that can be finished in just a couple of hours yet it pulls so many emotions from you. I was crying, laughing, and cheering for Scott and Penny all the way through.

I have been looking forward to Scott and Penny’s story after being introduced to them in The Gritty Truth, where I learnt they were in a relationship. Scott did not have an easy childhood. He grew up in an abusive environment, which he escaped when he was seventeen years old. However, he bears the emotional scars associated with his past, which hindered him from forming relationships with women. Meeting Penny brought about changes, but although their relationship has grown, he feared becoming a father and verbally expressing his feelings.

In For A Penny delivered a short but sweet, passionate romance brimming with emotions and sprinkled with humour. The reader got the chance to follow Scott and Penny as they navigated the ups and downs of their relationship. Penny wanted what Scott feared giving her, and it weighed heavily on her. I felt her pain and my heart wept for her as she struggled with deciding whether to let go or fight for the man she loves. I loved how well they communicated with each other and the way they worked through their issues.

It was fun catching up with characters from the previous books and being present at Bones and Sarahs’ wedding.

In For A Penny was a delicious romantic story, which featured outstanding characters whom you can’t help but fall in love with. Another beautiful story from Melissa Foster. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

In For A Penny was a novella within Melissa Foster’s The Whiskey’s Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series.

We met Penny and Scott as secondary characters in many of the previous books and experienced their introduction, friendship and ultimately their budding relationship. Scott was the brother to Sarah and Josie (books four and five) while Penny was the sister to Finlay (book three). We knew Scott’s childhood was horrendous and that he carried a lot of guilt from not protecting his sisters more, but in In For A Penny, Foster exposed Scott even more - his deep rooted fears and the reasons he held something back from Penny.

True to Foster’s style, it was well written and emotional. As a novella, it was uber short, so not as developed as if they had a full book, but enjoyable none the less. Running on Diesel is up next for the series.

OMG, Melissa Foster is a frikkin word wizard! Seriously, listen to me, this is a novella and I am all up in my feelings! Whyyyyy? She needs Jesus, but I love her.

So obviously, this is more emotional than expected. I mean yes, there's a wedding I was looking forward to reading about but oh my heart , Penny and Scott are off the charts *happy sigh* I couldn't have asked for a better wrap-up to their journey. It was beautiful and heartfelt and just so triumphant! GAH! I love these people hard!

Copy received from author for an honest review.

This novella sure packed a heck of a punch.

I was curious about Penny and Scott after seeing them in The Gritty Truth, and I needed more.

The more we got was a lot more emotional than I was expecting, and I enjoyed every heartfelt minute.

I am looking forward to what Ms Foster brings us next

The Whiskeys is probably my favourite series by Melissa Foster. When we started getting a bit of Scott and Penny in Quincy's book, I was very keen to get my hands on a story of their own. I normally struggle with novella's because they're so short, and sometimes just not quite right. But this one was awesome. I really liked both Scott and Penny, and I enjoyed being along for the ride at this point in their journey together.

I also found this to be emotional in parts. I can't wait to see more of these two in the future books from this series. this was a fabulous little snippet for them and I recommend if you're a fan of this series.

In for a Penny is a sweet little novella by Melissa Foster. The book tells the story of Penny and Scott who are characters that pop up in the previous book ‘The Gritty Truth’. We see how their relationship has quickly progressed from friends to lovers, but something seems to be missing…the three little words that everyone wants to hear…I love you. Although Penny knows that Scott feels that way, we know that his upbringing has made it difficult for him to have a relationship with women other than his sisters and even though his relationship with Penny is progressing, there are times where he questions what will happen when Penny wants more. What will happen when things happen which neither have any control over?

This story was bittersweet, heart-breaking, funny, lovely and everything else in between novella. We as a reader get entrenched in Penny and Scott’s relationship, whilst seeing other characters from previous books too. Everyone has advice for the couple, but it really is their own feelings and communication with each other which make this story. Sometimes you don’t need the words, especially when throughout the book we see Scott love Penny in every possible way!
A perfect, quick and easy read with some brilliant characters. I can’t wait for more!

In for a Penny by Melissa Foster is a beautiful and heartfelt read.

I enjoyed the storyline, it's sweet, romantic and I loved being back with all the previous couples from The Whiskeys series.

Penny and Scott are perfect for each other, she brings calmness and a sense of peace into his life and he makes he feel loved and respected. These two have a beautiful and passionate relationship and I was so happy they were able to move past the fear and insecurities of Scott's past to enjoy their much deserved happily ever after.

I have been waiting for more about Penny and Scott. And this novella filled my heart with all the joy and oh boy are these two together HOT, HOT. HOT.

As everyone around the two are getting married and having kids, Penny knew going into her relationship that Scott has demons in his past that would prevent the two from ever going further than boyfriend/girlfriend. Penny knows and can feel that Scott loves her. He shows it in everything he does for her, and she thought she would be okay with what they talked about, until she wasn't.

My heart absolutely broke for Penny and Scott - knowing what both wanted and didn't think they could ever have. But let me tell you, my heart was soaring by the end and I had a big old sappy grin on my face. I adore these two and have through all the Whiskey Novels.

A perfect tide me over until the next Whiskey book and a joyful surprise for fans of the series. The book reads as a standalone, so there is no need to read the series in order to follow along, but once you meet the whole gang, you will want to go back and see their journeys!

Things seem really good for Penny and Scott at the start to this one. Scott even helps Penny with one of her big business goals. Things start to go a bit sour when Penny realizes she needs more from Scott and after trying to talk to him he is fine with where they are. With Scott's sister's wedding happening, so much drama ends up going on there. I'm glad that Scott saw the light and let Penny know before she spilt her big secret. Nice to know this couple will be living their HEA, like all of their friends and family.

Finally! Penny and Scott have been dancing around each other for quite some time. This short but sweet read gives us all we could possibly want as these two figure out how to commit to each other.

They have been together and have been happy. But Scott has a horrible back story and he isn't sure he can ever give his heart to anyone. Together, with the support of all the Whiskey clan, these two find their way to a HEA.

Some nice humor in the story. Plenty of steam. We see everyone together again for Bone's wedding.
Loved this addition to the series! I look forward to seeing these two in future books as well.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is a wonderful novella which forms part of the Dark Knights series. As any reader of Melissa Foster's extensive catalogue of books will know, there are links between the families that appear in all her stories, so you can drop in anywhere and then branch out into other wonderful story worlds and still feel amongst friends. In this book we catch up with two side characters who absolutely deserved their story to be told - and I loved it from cover to cover.

If you want to escape some of the reality of the day and immerse yourself in a very good romance, then this will fit the bill and is short enough that you will still get to sleep at a reasonable hour!

This is a short but thoroughly enjoyable read. We were introduced to Penny and Scott as a couple in The Gritty Truth (Quincy's book) and now we follow their romance several months later.
This couple is clearly made for each other, but can they find their way to forever when they want different things? Scott has issues due to his past, and Penny doesn't want to settle for less than she deserves. Will Scott have a change of heart at his sister, Sarah's, wedding after sharing his deepest darkest secret with his siblings? Enjoy this sweet read full of family, cute kids, and lots of ice cream.

This was an enjoyable fun read, and we loved the characters, and they were so much fun.

This is a really great series surrounding the Whiskey Brothers and their sister. What we loved about this story and the others is that their stories are complicated and full of emotion and have characters that a real and faulty but, when they love its hard and forever, making their relationship stumbling blocks make that love all the more rewarding.

Penny and Scott's chemistry was off the charts, and they are sexy and hot and make an awesome couple. For Penny, she is in a different place than Scott is when it comes to what she wants out of life like children and marriage and so forth, and she has been an emotional wreck because she is so in love with this man but, she is starting to realize she is going to have to give him up. My heart broke for Penny time and time again and her pain definitely touches one's heart. Everything is within her grasp yet it is not.

Scott is a sexy man who checks almost all those boxes for Penny just not the important ones. I really liked Scott on the whole as a person because he was personable and fun and it was clear he loved his family wholeheartedly but, the man has let the demons of his past rule his life, and that man is in danger of losing his future to the one he claims to love in silence.

Overall we really loved the story and it fits in perfectly with the not-so-perfect characters of the Whiskey Clan. This couple clearly loved one another and their circumstances seemed tragic and doomed but, the power of the love of family and friendship and the love of a good woman is going to hopefully help Scott slay those demons once and for all. This story was impossible not to tug at the heartstrings of the reader and I have to say toward the end of the story I started getting all leaky and when that happens you know the author has done her job and made the story feel real that had you form a connection with these characters she has written about as well as making us fall in love with them and for this reader, she did just that!

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from the PR Agency in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Melissa for my copy of this book. I LOVE this series and I'm a big fan of Melissa's work. In The Gritty Truth we heard about Penny and Scott getting together but this book is really their story. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone.

Penny has been in the background of many of Melissa's other books and I've been looking forward to hearing her story ever since Melissa mentioned she was writing this story. Penny runs an Ice cream shop called Luscious Licks. I tell you now I want to visit! Pronto! I have the biggest craving for Penny's sundaes after reading this book! Penny is passionate about her work and has a bit of a sweet tooth (just like me!). I really liked Penny she is an easy character to like and root for. She's just such a sweetie.

Scott has been through hell. If you have read the other books in this series then you will know parts of his story. Scott goes through quite a journey in this book. We see Scott come to his lowest and it was beyond heartbreaking to see this.

I really enjoyed this short and sweet story. My only complaint is that it was over so quickly! Oh and my now huge craving for ice cream sundaes in December! I'm definitely adding ice cream to my shopping list!

Penny and Scott are the ultimate in opposites attract. Scott was raised in a home with parents that abused him and his sisters. He was riddled with guilt at not being able to protect his younger sisters, so much so he didn’t believe he deserved a HEA. Scott vowed to never have a family or a relationship for fear of becoming his father.

Penny and her sister were lavished with love growing up. They never had to wonder where their next meal was coming from or what was going to set their dad off. They were LOVED! Penny knows Scott doesn’t want a family or a HEA, but her heart doesn’t believe him. Penny doesn’t want to change Scott as she loves him as is, but she can’t help but thinking he’s afraid.

I loved that Penny and Scott worked for their HEA. Through counseling, Scott is able to work through some of his fears. It’s not easy, but necessary. Very realistic! I enjoyed how supportive Scott was with Penny’s ice cream business. I also enjoyed the “glimpses” of the Whiskey family as they come together to celebrate another marriage. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Once again I find myself crying like a baby when reading Melissa Foster's book.
The HEA of Penny and Scott was highly anticipated and it did not disappoint.
My heart was breaking for Scott who had issues that he seemed he couldn't let go. And I loved Penny who was trying to make him see that he was so much more than his past.

The only problem I have with this story is that it didn't last longer. But than again maybe its better this was and we got the HEA for them as we wanted without (too) much drama.

Back with the Whiskey’s and a warm, emotional, enjoyable short romance. You jump straight into the hotness of this one, so be choosy where you begin to read it!

Penny and Scott have been together for several months and are bordering on becoming a serious relationship, which is causing each of them to worry. Scott had allowed himself to fall for Penny, but due to his past weighing him down like a tonne of stones, he thought he had known better. But it was Penny, the girl who had captured his heart and soul. Penny knew all about Scott’s past, understanding why he always held back so much, yet really beginning to need more. They were both so scared to move their love to the next level even though deep inside they wanted it so badly. You could feel the desperation and need to move forward yet being forced backwards with every step. Will Scott allow himself the happiness he deserves so much?

Of course, we also got to enjoy the lovely wedding of Sarah and Bones, with all the cute littles ones dressed up in all their best.

This was deliciously romantic, wrapped up in happiness, love, celebrations, and as always surrounded by family and friends.

Everyone is together to celebrate the momentous wedding of Sarah and Bones, but no family gathering would be complete without a little family drama and angst.

Scott has endured a painful past and even though he let Penny break through the walls he built around his heart he isn’t certain he can ever give Penny the future she deserves. Penny loves Scott with everything she has but she also dreams of their own happy ever and she knows that Scott can give her everything she wants and more and now she just needs him to realize it as well.

Even though this story may be shorter in length it still has all the emotion, family and romance that we know and love from this series.

In for a Penny

I love all of the Whiskey family and Dark Knights books. Scott and Penny's story doesn't change that. The abuse he went through as a child could ruin their future together. Love can certainly work miracles.

In For A Penny was the novella we had been waiting for. Two characters that deserved their own happy ending. Two people that loved hard but were held back by Scott's doubt and his past. A beautiful story that at times tears your heart to pieces but so easily puts it back together.

4.5⭐️

I think the only reason this wasn’t 5 stars was because I easily could have had more from them because I loved Penny and Scott just the same as all the other couples.

However the novella length covered everything it needed, including a serious heart pull moment. Like that scene at the wedding? My stomach, my heart strings - EVERYTHING pulled as a waited anxiously for the outcome *chefs kiss*

I also loved how Penny absolutely was not going to change Scott despite how much she loved him. She was willing to walk away so as not to be that person who tries to change their partner and I really respected that.

This was a perfect short, bingeable read that saw the HEA of two of the side characters that I’m so glad got their own little feature.

This is a beautiful novella set in the world of the Dark Knights/the Whiskeys. It isn't very long, but it sure packs a punch, emotion wise! At one point I was a bit teary eyed, but at the end, I was all smiles! It was very sweet, and ended with a perfect HEA!

Penny is in love. But what should be the happiest time of her life is full of confused emotions and an uncertain future. She knows what she feels, but isn't sure if those feelings are returned, or if there is even a future for them.

Scott had a horrific childhood, and that's left him with unresolved issues, and feelings of anger and self doubt. He doesn't know if he deserves it, or if he even should, but he knows he wants Penny. The question is, can he keep her, or should he let her go, if he knows they want different things from life?

This book is an emotional roller coaster! Penny and Scott are so perfect together, but there are a lot of issues keeping them from fulfilling what could be an amazing future. There is so much packed into this little novella, and I loved Penny and Scott together. As someone who has adored all of the Whiskey books, I was excited to find that their story was coming, and definitely loved every page! It's absolutely one that everyone should pickup ASAP!
