Between life and death, there’s magic.

Our secrets have been exposed and now we have to deal with the consequences: Friends of the Midwest Pack are missing. Alliances are forming between enemies whose sole intent is to destroy the pack. And a mysterious group is trying to make a power grab using any means possible.

With my pack and our allies in danger, I don’t think things can possibly get any worse. I’m wrong.

The spirit shade that I’ve hosted all my life awakens—vengeful and powerful—and uses me to cast a dark spell over all were-animals. If I can’t find a way to reverse it, they will die.

McKenzie Hunter is the author of urban fantasy, dark fantasy, and paranormal romance books. She discovered early that new adventures were just a page-turn away; all she had to do was read a book. She’s had her share of escapades from hanging out with vamps, joining the chaos of shifter packs, creating spells with witches, and avoiding deals with the fae.

When she isn't working on her next book, she’s reading, binge-watching TV, or disappearing into her own world during nature walks (probably on the lookout for magical beings—or maybe not).

I don't have words. I can't count the number of times I screamed through this book because I was so tense and amazed at the action and badassery. I feel like if I enumerate them now, I'd basically retell the entire book because 80% of it involved so much action. I must say Josh and Skylar deserve standing ovation for this installment. They seriously carried the whole book when it comes to power showdowns.

Definitely even better than the last one. The first 3 books went from meh to disappointing and I kinda lost hope in this series but book 4 salvaged that and THIS! This definitely upped the ante.

This might even be a 4.5 if not for my growing annoyance at the constant recount of the previous books whenever there's a chance and the increasingly convoluted web of villains and treachery. But hey! That generated a good suspense so can't really hate on that one much.

Another series that has a interesting premise but devolves into a shit "poor me" 'heroine', an abusive romantic relationship, and ultimately just a lame job at coming to any sort of conclusion with story lines. So if you like the whole trope of "the bad guy keeps getting more powerful so let me keep making my heroes more powerful to conquer", coupled with a horridly written abusive "romantic" relationship then this series is for you.

Oh and this one leaves you on a cliffhanger, which is the pinnacle of poor writing imo.

losing steam

this series had so much promise. But I feel like some of the conflict is being forced now. I'm not going to lie..the love hate thing Sky and Ethan have is cute and possibly could've ended up the same but it just wasn't believable. The only way you even have some kind of hint that there is chemistry between them is if you read the books that are written from his point of view. Even that doesn't really help because there are only 3 books from his POV but 6 so far in this series. I was looking forward to finishing this series because I thought it was going somewhere...now it just seems like the same drama with different characters and forced instalove. Sorry... but you lost me.

Consequences

What a cliff hanger. Unbelievable! I loved all the action and the romance. I could have done without Kelly being taken though. She is way to sweet to have such horrible things happen.

A major theme that continues to return is there are consequences to your actions. The consequences keep getting larger every time. They have figured it put each time but I don't see how that will keep working.

My favorite part is seeing Skylar and Ethan's relationship get stronger. Its very hot.

I actually did enjoy this book and agree with many other readers that it was the best book in the series. However, the edit on this book was even more egregious than the previous. I notice that she repeats herself quite a bit in the same book, not as an explanation of previous books, which makes sense and is absolutely reasonable.

The worst one I have seen to date is in this book where they are meeting Ariel for the first time and Sky narrates to us about London.

I’d always wondered about their friendship. He said they were friends and sometimes lovers. On more than one occasion, it had been apparent that “sometimes” wasn’t entirely accurate. “Sometimes” didn’t cause you to look at anyone the way they looked at each other. And the matching tattoos that they had were reminders that the bond they shared had existed since they were children and had grown over the years.

Not 4 Kindle pages later, a repetitive and somewhat contradictory passage:

Josh said they were “sometimes lovers,” which after being around them I realized might not be as infrequent as he’d led me to believe. And as he watched her with a look of pain and betrayal, it was obvious there was something between them far more than “sometimes lovers.” But I’d assumed that when I’d noticed that they had body art so similar that it couldn’t be a coincidence.

The story is a good story overall though and I wouldn't not read it because it isn't polished completely.

Anyone who is already aware of McKenzie's work will know the power she wields when writing her tales, this book was not an exception to her usual brilliance. In fact I dare say it was the best in the series. I will honestly be devastated when this series ends, such a world McKenzie has whipped up and we are so fortunate to be able to experience it. I hope this lovely author knows how much we appreciate her and her work. Truly a series you won't want to miss.
Unique exceptional and worth its weight in gold.

Love this series!

I chose 5 stars because there is nothing I don't like about this series. McKenzie Hunter is an incredible writer. There is never a dull moment with this pack. The characters have so much depth, and they are very real. I love sky's sarcastic nature and how much she has grown throughout the series. Thank you McKenzie for the late nights, laughs, cries and escape your books provide! And you couldn't have ended this book with a better cliffhanger!

Another excellent addition!

Loved, loved, loved it! I am a huge fan of this series and each book just gets better than the last. This book answers many of the questions from the previous books and resolves some of the conflicts in very satisfying ways. The only bad thing is having to wait for the next book!

I'm a completionist, so I have to continue with this series. But with each book, I hate it more and more. Review of the series so far really.

The MC's idealistic worldview is getting extremely tedious. Nowhere is rainbows and butterflies, and her constant hypocrisy over being terrified of the pack whenever they have to get violent, while she excuses her own premeditated violence (say, against a witch) makes her narration frustrating.

The MC makes me want to smack her constantly. She's such a confused character. Burying her head in the sand one moment and trying to find out all the answers the next. She always goes back to wanting a normal life, going so far as to want the animal half of her removed, while wanting to know every secret about everyone just to sate her curiosity. She doesn't even understand half the answers she's given. Her goody two shoes meddling gets the entire pack in trouble and somehow that doesn't frustrate anyone. As all the characters around her have to clean up her mess, the author tries to convince you that she's an asset.

The whole "I don't like lying thing" is also belied every other page when she willingly lies to Ethan about something. Proving once again just how utterly incompetent and stupid the MC is, considering weres know when someone is lying. Maybe it's the author's own worldviews, but when they only get brought up because the MC wants someone to behave in the way she thinks is ideal while she never lives up to her own ideology, it just makes it seem like the views of a teenager who hasn't experienced anything of the world. Who grew up extremely sheltered, which I suppose the MC did. She hates being caught up in someone's lie (Winter) but lies constantly.

The speed with which this author switches the MC's personality gives you whiplash.

This author thinks she's more clever than she's really portraying her to be as well. Every time the MC reaches a logical and obvious conclusion, it's treated as though the MC uncovered a lifelong mystery.

Finally, the coupling. MC had more chemistry with just about anyone else than Ethan. Sebastian? Yup. Winter? Yup. Quell? Absolutely. What she was with Ethan was mainly terrified (constantly equating with cold-blooded killing and violence), angry and distant. And somehow that makes for good romance? She expressed no interest in him in her dialogue before the time she kissed him or between that and sleeping with him. She also "doesn't want to be a throwaway" while also saying she knows his game and is going into it with wide eyes and clear understanding it was likely just lust on his end. Which is it?

In short, there's like no planning involved in this series. The author just does whatever she feels like in the moment, whether or not it's even in line with the character's personality. There's no consistent personality, and everyone is kinda more or less the same character. The longer the series goes, the less individualism they have and are all acting more or less the same. All with the same sense of humor. All "dark chuckles." All violent, high-strung, domineering, and curt.

.... I'm just gonna skip to the end to get this over with.

This is my favourite book in the series so far - I really wish I could give more stars because it deserves more than 5.

There is a lot more action in this book then there have been in the previous and I found myself holding my breathe so many times in anticipation of finding out how each situation was going to end. Sky. . . she is so fkn kickass in this book! But amazingly kickass. In the previous books she has tried and it was at times a hit and a miss. . . This time, she was right in there, becoming a more formidable fighter, but also being able to make smart choices when she needed to, which she lacked a little bit in the previous books. She has really grown so much, even since book 4. She's super funny and I had some laugh out loud moments, she's increased her sarcastic and sassy ways which is so delightful. She never misses a beat to give it back to people who can easily take her down and has become a stronger character, becoming more accepting and comfortable in her own skin.

Everything changes in this book with a new alpha taking interest in her and causing trouble between her and the pack members, especially Ethan. New and old enemies come together and just when you think that the book is going to be about one enemy, it throws you another one and then another and by the end you're like so whose the real enemy then? Well. . . . it would be cruel for me to give that away.

I loved the shift in her relationship with Ethan and the Midwest Pack. Sebastian who I felt came across more of a father figure/guardian to her than some arrogant leader who wants nothing to do with her and is a thorn in his side, Steven which was strained from book 4 and has now became better and talk about her relationship with Ethan. . . I have no words and definitely don't want to say too much for fear of giving everything away but wow. . . .I love how she becomes even closer to Winter - and they'll never have a girly friendship but what they do have is perfect for them and their personalities. I also loved seeing a softer side to Winter as well.

I loved seeing a rougher side to Josh - you were really given an insight into the type of witch he could be and the lengths that he would go to for the people he loves. There's a few questionable moments with him where I felt disappointed with him - mainly involving Chris, but I soon got over that and he was in my good books again hehe. I didn't like how Chris popped back into the book - always hated her (can't really say why), but I will admit I did warm up to her a little which I didn't think could be done.

Sooo many feels with this book. . . . McKensie really knows how to keep her audience riveted, giving us bit more each time and making is flow so well from one book to the other. She keeps on topping herself with every book she writes and I just can't wait to see what happens next, especially leaving on a cliffhanger like that!!!

It was good. Lots of interesting thing happened in this book. Sky and Ethans relationship is progressing nicely, I no longer feel the need to drown Ethan in a clogged toilet like I did in previous books.

But it just seems sort of rushed? Like things that should have been bought to the forefront and expanded on weren't. And sometimes a scene ends and we are dropped into another so abruptly I have to go back to make sure I didn't miss a page.

Also I'm seriously wondering why Sky is such a damn push over in some areas when in others she has proven she can take a stand.

I think there were so many different threads in this book and the author couldn't quite keep track of them all to make the book run as smoothly as it could have. For example, Quell (sp?) He was such an important character for so long and all of a sudden he's gone, just like that!? Ugh...

Also what is with some of these other characters and the possible romances? I like 1 new couple but the others not so much. I mean Chris! Really! I thought we were done with her! (Don't worry, she didn't get back with Ethan, I probably would have thrown my phone into a clogged toilet if they had)

Think I may have a break, I've made it this far and there are only 2 books left, I can pull through and finish this series!

Now this book is worth a 5 rating and then some. Ethan still gets on my last nerve but he appears to be making the right moves with Sky especially because he seems to have realized there are more than just her vampire friend who see her strength and beauty. The witches are so power hungry and powerful that you have to cringe when they show up. The names and faces change but they always have a power play sometimes for and in most cases against the pack. I really can’t stand the vampires, in this world they are shallow, untrustworthy and manipulative as well as cruel. Typically the humans/ hunters/scientists always want to steal the gifts and destroy anyone and anything they consider to be inferior to “man”. Sky isn’t naive anymore, she has grown exponentially in the years since the series started and found out so much about the entity that resides within. Josh, Stephen, Sebastian also seem to have realized Sky is more than they thought when they rescued her from the vampire’s years ago.

Another book in the adventures with Sky Brooks. And there's drama from everywhere. The witches are still being a pain, ditto for the vampires, and Kelly continues to be MIA. And another player joins the game to cause problems with the Pack.
It's an overall entertaining story, with some minor timeline issues (either I've binged the books too fast or days and weeks mean different things in this book world to reality). Sky still has some growing up to do, especially with her relationship with Ethan. Though, her willingness to do what's right hasn't changed. Ethan is still as stubborn as ever and he could definitely use some therapy and learn to communicate with Sky better.
There are twists, turns, violence, swearing, and some mild steam in the story.
It ends on a cliffhanger, but the next book is already out!
This is the fifth book in the series and it is absolutely necessary to read the previous four in order to understand this story.
The book ends at 95%, with a chapter from the next book in the series included.

Skylar - I'm not gonna agree to enslaving another being to keep myself alive. Sebastian - Too bad, the "pack" agrees that you have to enslave someone to a demon so you can live.

Skylar - my anger is about to rage like a forest fire because Eathan just commanded me like a child. I'm just gonna strip naked and have sex with him, and that'll fix it😒🙄 after we were done, I said, "Don't do that again."

Ethan - Skylar, I don't want you living with another man, not even our pack member Steven. Oh, you don't like me telling you what to do, let me just manipulate you with some sex. Works every time.

Ethan - I'm not allowing Quell to come back. Skylar, you want to rephrase that? Ethan, I. WONT. ALLOW. IT. He has a donor that looks similar to you. Skylar, well since you smiled at me I guess I'll just go with whatever you say.

Every book is the same at this point. Ethan is a terrible and abusive person. Skylar is a terrible person and weak of character. I think Nurse Kelly is the only decent person in this series.

Each book i think this is the best one yet! Love the series read all one after another on kindle, could not put them down. My only critiscim is the ending, will tick spoiler alert so it doesnt spoil it for others (although i dont understand anyone reading a review before they read the book as it will tell what's going on and i dont want to know any of it)
Sky and everyone else spent so much time and sacrifices to keep her safe and solve her problems...then she willingly gives up her magic supposedly to not cause tension for the pack?! Are you kidding me? Look at everything else shes done? She's a fighter, to me this was soo out of character that i feel betrayed by the author, also i dont understand josh and sebastian letting her even do this, she has soo many enemies that she would need her magic more than ever just to survive, shes been crippled. The next book better have her back in character or sky will seem like a fraud. Am i the only one that thinks this? Lol

Good, Bad, argh

This is a good series that suffers from one repeating issue... the author’s desire to let us know all the conflicting thoughts and feeling of the main character That means two things. 1) we understand why she does stupid things. 2) the reader has to live with a strong woman who lets emotion and stupidity rule her life. I mean that she stays with an ass**** because... love, she tries to force others to follow her ethics, she does magically stupid things, etc etc. the problem is, yes, this is how REAL people live, but also makes the character annoying and often unlikeable. It is a very GOOD thing that the series is really good and all the other things the author does is spot on. I’m just really tired of reaching the middle of the book and wanting to throw my IPad against the wall even though I know it will all work out in the end. Sigh. If you can live with this flaw then yes, recommended.

In the fourth book of the Sky Brooks series, Sky finally is beginning to gain control of her abilities. Her relationship with the vampire Quella is complicating her relationship with her housemate and best friend Steven and with her pack. When an enemy from the past rears its head, Sky's abilities are pushed to the limits. She and Ethan, finally, connect on a personal level and though this causes its own issues, it is nice to see it finally happen. Sky continues to grow and evolve into the strong person that she is destined to be, and I love to see that evolution. She grows and evolves like a regular person would and that makes her relateable and understandable as a character and makes me want to keep reading the series.

Wow....what a book

I can't believe the dynamics that are included in this book. Skylab, Ethan, Josh, Sebastian and the pack are thrust into issues that no one else could get out of. Magic is the backbone of Sky's existence. She is not fully a wolf, but a host to a shade named Maya.

Josh is alive because of dark magic, and Ethan has a secret he refuses to tell Sky. Other players are involved....witches, vampires. The head witch is out to kill Sky and Josh, as well as the pack. She must be dealt with. New witches arrive. Kelly is abducted and humans are being experimented on.

Can it get any stranger?? I don't think so.

Read on my friends.

Interesting

This was so far the best book of the series it had more action the introduction of new characters with serious presence a new set of witches running the creed with seriously strong magic. Skylar and Ethan finally moving forward in their relationship. Ethan facing a challenge Sky being punished by the witches and yet to face the wrath of Demetrius and a bad enemy waiting to get revenge, a!so we are left with a huge cliff hanger at the end can't wait for the next book.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title (Audible Membership)

When Logan had the pack under threat, the resultant fallout caused the cursing of all were animals, to be carried out by the next full moon. A moon shaped tattoo appeared on those affected.
The group race to find a spell that will save them, whilst some sadistic people are experimenting on humans and weres alike. When one of the pack's medical staff disappears, only to be tracked to a suspicious building with magic wards surrounding it.

GOOD READING

I was looking for a new read, and at first it was the art work on the front cover that got my attention, then as I started reading them I found my interest picking up, and really liking Sky, and that pain in the butt Ethen😀. And from there I couldn't put the books down, I have to read them all!! But after I read all 5 now I am in need of more, so readers if you are looking for soft romance, action, humor, and a fun ride these are the ones to read,.

Again to find out he got magic and a spirt shad like hers make me bitting my nails for the next installment.

Moon Cursed (Sky Brooks Series Book 5)

The book was exciting and Ethan and Skylar finally got together, and it only took 5 books to get there, lol 😂!!!
As the series progresses the plot thickens, Skylar is learning more about herself and Ethan, finally. Definitely a page turner and good series . I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens . Hopefully, we will finally get some answers to some questions, that have been on my mind.

I would recommend this series.

Riveting addition to the Sky Brooks series I am just in awe af the skill of how intriguing the characters and overall story is. Some series just can't hold strong into the 5th book and don't remain fresh or unique. Not so with this series! Every books ramps it up a notch and really takes it up to a new level. I highly recommend this book. I recieved this book from the author as an ARC for an honest review.

Once again McKenzie Hunter has weaved her magic in this book. The midwest pack just seems to be unable to stay out of trouble. Between a crazy vampire, a rouge mage, a missing friend of the pack, a curse, a challenge and of course Ethan, Skylar is kept busy. And lets not forget the witches, will it ever end? Can Skylar and the pack survive this time? And the cliffhanger at the end had me scrambling for the next book.
