Past choices are coming back to haunt me, and an old curse threatens to drive me from the pack.
Sky is the only person who can help me with the curse. To do so, she’ll have to perform forbidden magic that will draw the attention of the witches. They’ve been vying for a reason to kill Sky, and performing forbidden magic will give them one.
In the past, I haven’t given Sky a reason to trust me, let alone the desire to save me. Now I need her to do both. Will she risk her life to save mine?
Midnight Shadows is Ethan’s POV of Midnight Falls (Sky Brooks Series: Book 3) with added scenes and storylines. It can be read alone, but reading Midnight Falls first will enhance your reading experience.
Honestly, Ethan was a tortured and cursed martyr in this book and I felt pity for him and all the guilt and self-hate he bore for all the hard choices he made for the protection of the pack and Skylar. It didn't make some of his callous choices acceptable but it's been long established that his moral compass wasn't something to be proud either.
I developed an appreciation for Ethan's foresight and clear view of the consequences of Skylar and Josh's actions. And seeing it from his perspective made me realize that he's right, Josh was too reckless and Skylar was still immature to control dark magic. Stupid was always such a harsh word in my opinion but it did seem like it when you consider all domino effects that happened.
That bit about Dennis and Caroline was so unexpected. That was totally not on Skylar's book and some sufferings you really can't tell just from looking at a person.
Also, this confirmed he DID harbor unrequited love for Skylar. Out tortured emo boy doing everything in his power to anger Skylar and feeling hurt when she doesn't trust him and his lies. What did you expect, man?
I am still loving this dual point of view. The two authors writing them gives a distinct voice to each of the characters and I am still enjoying seeing the times that do and more so, do not overlap.
I have read other series in which they retell a story from a different character's point of view, but so far Emerson Knight has been the most impressive. He truly has given this work his own breath of life and I for one LOVE IT. While he remains true to the original series' storyline and to the characters, this book definitely tells its own story and reveals so much about its main character. With other such attempts by other series and authors you feel like you just purchased the same book twice, but NOT HERE. TRULY WELL DONE MR. KNIGHT.
Absolutely entertaining and fast paced with a few steamy moments. If you have read the Sky Brooks series, you may find yourself melting for Ethan but clearly you can still expect him to piss you off 😉, he is still Ethan after all. Love him or leave him 😂.
I feel like I must be missing something! I viewed a lot of the other reviews before I decided to write this one only because I wanted someone to join me in my views which seem to be different from everyone else's. Firstly let me say that my issues are in part due to the base that has been laid in the Sky Brooks books of which I have read all, so I know where the story is leading. My problem is, as it was for those books is that Ethan is not a nice person (or at least this is how he comes across in the first three books from both POV's). I suppose in some aspects he shows some redeemable qualities but my question to myself and everyone else is, is it enough?. When I first read the Sky Brooks series I thought wow! Great series but Ethan is a tough character to like. I was interested to see how he would come back from some of the more deplorable behaviour he enacts especially through the first 3 books of the series. And here in lies the problem both writers have brushed over this behaviour. My hope was that by reading things from Ethan's POV I might be more sympathetic but after much thought, I'm not. Cleary he feels guilt over certain actions but does this change his behaviour, I'm not sure it does. The thing is I remember thinking this way at the end of the third book of the Sky Brooks series and I know reviews I read then had mixed feelings about Ethan maybe they also hoped that by reading from Ethan's POV it would shed a better light on his character but I'm sorry to say that for me it didn't. In fact it just reminded me how badly he treated everyone. The borderline abusive insults he continually throws at Skylar are never addressed he never apologises for his treatment of her other than the occasional second thought I don't think he really regrets anything he does to her. His jealousy that is more evident because this book is from his POV is glaring in its hypocrisy. I must admit that by the end of this book I wanted Skylar to run off into the sunset with Josh who is by far more loyal, kind and in general more hospitable towards Sky. Right, okay rant over. I still gave the book three stars because its well written, well paced and well its just a good story but at the end of the day I cant get over my hope that by seeing things from Ethan's POV I would grow to like him more, this simply didn't happen. I will continue to read books in the series as its a great read and I hope they continue for along time just, well... lets hope I like Ethan more in the next one. xx
Another amazing read! These books draw you into a world that you can't help but want to be part of. The original storyline written by McKenzie Hunter is my all time favourite book series, and having the chance to read from Ethans POV adds even more depth to an already magnificent read. I've read all of the Sky Brooks series & all of Ethans so far & i honestly can't recommend them enough, if you haven't read them yet, do it, let McKenzie Hunter & Emerson Knight take you on a magical journey to a world that is full of everything you need to escape from reality. 5 amazing stars, wish I could give more 💖
3.5 | Was free on audible When I saw there was the male POV alongside what I thought was a non-romance focused series, I thought I listen to one. Edpecially cause the fmc seems so sensical until about book 3, where she starts smth with the guy if this series despite her better judgement.
Well, it gave me some insights on pack business and parallel happenings. The mmc is definitely not the emotionally very available type/thinker. So its more like he unconsciously seems to form an attachment.
Without having read book 1 and 2, not so easy to really place this all. If others become available, i might bother listening.

It's great to see the same events from a different POV, especially Ethan's. I love Ethan's separate stories as well. You can see how he struggles with the viciousness of his actions instead of just wondering at it from Sky's POV. Can't wait for book 4!
For the first half of the book I absolutely hated Ethan. I think that’s a testament to the brilliant authors to make me feel that! The second half of the book softened my heart to him. Brought back so many memories from Sky’s books. Really enjoyed the POV in the end. Looking forward to the next one.
Book 3 this is the same series but takening the journey with ethan 3 months past the journey continues.this book is much different to sky's because you see what Ethan is up to when not around. I'm not keen on his kissing one women then phoning another to hook up with he is so thickal it's depressing.
Follow Ethan while he tries to protect his pack, his brother, and Skylar, all while keeping his own personal secret from them all. I am starting to really like Ethan the first 2 books. I thought he was the biggest jerk. Now I see he isn't that bad at all. He just isn't very good at expressing how he feels.
Okay. I do not usually review books. However, I have to say that the more I read Ethan and Skylar's stories, the more I really DO NOT like Ethan. Does he like Skylar or does he hate her? The theme seems to be a wishy-washy feeling for him. Skylar's feelings seem to be pretty decently in the no likey category.

I am not going to lie. I cannot decide which is going to be a better read. I love Sky's story and her internal battles. But reading Ethan's is starting to be just as interesting. I wish the first few books had more depth than just his anger and what his anger led him to do. I wish there was more depth to his internal struggles. Excited to read the rest.
Midnight Shadows (Sky Brooks World: Ethan Book 3) ❤️🔥❤️
Midnight Shadows (Sky Brooks World: Ethan Book 3) ❤️🔥❤️❤️🔥❤️ This series is only getting better with each new book! There is so much going on, it's a rollercoaster ride of a book. On to the next! I definitely recommend this series / books and the audible books.
Definitely liking the Ethen POV better then the Skylar POV, this writer speaks on a level which I related to where the Sky version I was always looking up words to get specific meanings and what not. Again not my typical genre but I am committed so I will see Ethan’s World books to the completion.
Loved it, been waiting for this one and the other. This series is one of my favorites!! Love sky and Ethan and all the rest. No p e the next one isn't a long wait? Me Mackenzie
I highly recommend this series. U must read both Skylar's and Ethan's point of view. These books are so worth the many sleepless nights I've spent reading because I couldn't put them down. Totally worth it!
They are good. I like the two versions with extra scenes from Sky and Ethan side. Few scenes in wish didnt happen, but not enough to not like the books. Very well written.
Had hoped this series would full in the holes in the why Brooks series... Oh well. Just a review of the why Brooks books from a different perspective with very little details add.
Again, enjoying Ethan's POV and finding out so much more on everything that's going on!!! So much action, information, and loving how Ethan cares about Skylar so much that he’s like a teenager 😍 On to the next! #HappyReading ❤
Sky tries to retrieve the Aufero from Marcia. When she gets it she relieves Ethan of his dark elf magic. She ends up trading it back for Josh, and is cursed by Marcia so she can't take it back. Josh breaks the curse from a spell in the Clostra.
I had written off this series but I’m glad I persevered. The change of author seems to have brought Ethan out some more, with adventures of his own and a better insight into his mind.
I have enjoyed reading Ethan's pov. I do love to know what's going on in his head. I would so recommend this book to anyone that enjoyed the Sky Brooks series.
This book created new plot lines for Ethan more than the previous books about his point of view, and I think that’s why I like it the best of his stories.
