Cwen City, Everstrom. Capital of the modern world. Home to Undine National Library, where the largest collection of knowledge is gathered and looked after by experts in all fields. Suzzen and Rogier, along with neurotic History expert Arabelia, discover that someone is secretly replacing books with modified copies. Together with Dylion —who’d very much rather avoid life-threatening investigations— and Kveld, Suzzen’s reckless roommate, they all set out to uncover whatever evil goals the book-tamperers are after. But they better be careful, as the enemy could be anyone around them.
Finished this last night, and wow. I love these characters, this setting, the worldbuilding, the art... it's all fantastic. I can't wait to read the updates.
My only dillemma is that I can't decide whether Suzzen and Rogier are my OTP or BROTP. We'll see. (Aren't they adorable, though?)
Oh! Before I forget, some of the characters have supernatural powers. Just as a side note. ;)
My Review: I received a copy of this book through a Kickstarter campaign and it was so worth the wait, the physical copy of this book is stunning. I love the artwork, it is so detailed and the more sepia tones of the colors really lend to the almost dark and vintage feel of it. The story is rather detailed, there was so much more to it than I was expecting, definitely a book that you really need to pay attention to, not just skim the frames. There is a pretty extensive cast of characters and it definitely took me a while to start being able to keep some of the side characters straight. You can tell this is just the beginning of quite an extensive series, we get a lot of world building in this book but it is woven into the story nicely. At then end we are just getting started in unraveling several mysteries surrounding the library and its librarians. I believe this and the continuation of the story are available to read as a webcomic but I am hoping that we will get more physical releases because it is such a beautiful addition to my shelf.
The first volume of Bookwyrm does an amazing job of setting the story and the universe : forged books are replacing real ones, and fake knowledge is spreading in the bookshelves of one of the most prestigious libraries, so some local bookworms team up to finds out why. If you enjoy stories about books, set in a world of gorgeous librairies where everyone as great fashion sense, then this is for you !
Bookwyrms was first published online (and it's still available to read for free, if you want to jump in with us!), and this first volume is a really great edition, bigger than what I usually see from self published webcomics, which fits perfectly for this one !
Things I loved about this : - BOOKS everywhere - all of the main cast are bookworms AND handsome/pretty, obviously everyone wins here - like every reader, I want to live in the Undine Library - Suzzen is a botanist friend, so of course, I will protect her at all cost - The adults are struggling as much as the kids, and I'm here for it (it's me. I'm adult.) - the ART my friends. Just go look at the webcomics with your own eyeballs instead of reading this review, I beg you
Phenomenal comic I ran across on Kickstarter and became immediately immersed in. Garcia's beautiful art combined with her finely crafted storyline and quirky characters make this highly recommended!
Beyond the exquisite drawing, full of beautiful details in architecture, furniture (art nouveu fans, you will enjoy this) and clothes, and amazing character design, Bookwyrms is a delightful story full of misteries from the past crawling to the present. Waiting for volume 2!
This is a comic about two childhood friends, Suzzen and Rogier, who find each other again in their teen years after being separated. They both work at the Undine National Library together and discover that there are books there that are being replaced with different storylines. Now the two are trying it figured out who and why. When a fire breaks out, Suzzen learns from one of the teachers there that this may have happened before. Suzzen’s parents died in a fire that she was always told was an accident, but Professor Lovell thinks it was more insidious than that. That someone had set the fire, and that before the accident her father had discovered forged books at Undine. Now they’re thinking the fire at Undine may have been a coverup for whoever set it to mess with the books. But why? they manage to find the names of some of Suzzen’s parents old friend and try to track down the ones who are still alive to find answers. On this journey they find out that Suzzen and rogier’s parents were friends and that Rogier’s parents also died in a fire. We also learn that some people in this fantasy world have abilities — suzzen’s fether, for example, could read people’s minds to an extent. And one of their parents’ friends can read memories of objects. And I believed early on that Rogier had a talent to persuade people. I’m looking forward to reading the next volume of this! There’s a lot of mystery and I want to figure out what’s happening! I think it’s available online too so I will be checking it out because I really enjoyed the story so far!

This story is so far cute I am only a few updates in. I can't wait to finish reading. It's really not what I was expecting. I will come back when it's done or I'm done and update more.
I really, truly enjoyed this a lot. The characters, the setting, they are so CUTE! And I desperately want to see where this is going. I hope volume 2 will be released at some point.
