Anisha, Milo and Govi have been working soooooooo hard to make a super-erupting volcano for the school science fair. They really thought they could win first prize - a trip to the National Space Centre. But then they got into big trouble.
One minute they were practising in the lab with there volcano, then they heard a noise and rushed outside to look. Then their volcano exploded and flooded the school corridors with foam. School had to be cancelled!
But mabye they didn't get their project so wrong and mabye someone else was trying to win first prize. Looks like a case for Anisha Accidental Detective.
Anisha loves science. It’s her favourite subject and she dreams of being the first child in space. When it is announced that her school is going to host a science fair, and that the first prize is a trip to the National Space Centre, Anisha knows that she has to take part and win.
Together with her friends Milo and Govi, Anisha creates a plan for an erupting volcano. The trio are chosen to represent their school but during a practice session, something goes horribly wrong. The volcano explodes out of control and floods the school. With school cancelled, the friends are accused of causing the damage. Anisha knows that her experiment was set up correctly - so what did go wrong? Determined to clear their names, Anisha sets out to find out just what did happen. Was it an accident, or sabotage?
This is a delightful book celebrating family, friendships and science. Anisha has an extended family that proves to be strong and supportive when things go wrong. Granny Jas in particular is a force of nature who convinces Anisha that she needs a plan to find out just want went wrong with the experiment. Granny also provides a never-ending source of food! Anisha’s friendship with Milo provides the platform for them to investigate the mystery of the explosion, with the help of a rat and a vlogger.
Science lies at the heart of the story. It is refreshing to see a celebration of children enjoying science at school and wanting to learn more about the world around them.
There are nice cultural references within the book, particularly around food and family, along with footnotes explaining some of Granny’s food and footwear.
The illustrations by Emma McCann help to reflect the humour in the story and the text is often broken up with lists and diagrams, making the book particularly appealing to children who may be daunted when faced with full pages of text.
This is the second book in the Anisha Accidental Detective series but also works well as a stand-alone read.
This is a good read..aimed at 9-11 year olds, I enjoyed it myself ( decades older !). Anisha is a schoolgirl who lives with her Indian family..grandma is quite a character !...and solves mysteries with her ginger-haired friend Milo. There are mentions of Indian food, such as chapattis ( google tells me there are 4 ways to spell this in English ) and a sprinkling of Hindi words. It's a fun story about school.life with some illustrations of the characters. Although the main character is a girl, a boy, Milo, is also a main character and I think the story could appeal to both boys and girls and people of any background. The author, Serena Patel, said she saw no books with anyone like her Indian family when she was growing up...so she has written some ! Great fun, good plots and characters.
The stakes for this second Anisha mystery were much lower than the first book. In this book someone has set off an explosion of Anisha and Milo’s science experiment which had flooded the school. They really want it win the science fair to get tickets to the national space centre in Leicester but get disqualified and try to work out who framed them.
Still exciting but not as exciting as the first book!
Anisha is a huge fan of science! With her friends Milo and Govi, they've worked so hard to get a chance to participate in the annual Science Fair. But when they turn their backs, the experiment suddenly floods all over the school! Anisha is sure she didn't get it wrong. She thinks someone sabotaged it. But who...?
To start, I must say this book was really funny. There's a lot of jokes and a runaway rat! There are heartwarming touches of friendship and family too. Plus the author definitely understands kids really, really well!
Science is practically all over this story. It was nice to read about a hardworking schoolgirl who really wants to learn more.
The only problem with this book was that the suspect of the incident was too obvious. I could guess it straightaway. Otherwise a shy and small character probably wouldn't have been introduced. However, I'm not sure if others will find it obvious too.
I have to give this five stars- and that means you've got to read it!
I read the first book in the series with my daughter and thought it was a great read, a good mix of humour, getting to know about British Hindi's and an interesting mystery with moments of excitement.
This sequel I started reading with my daughter but she wasnt in the mood but I figured as I had it and had bought it, and she wasnt wanting to read it I would so the purchase wouldnt be wasted.
Turns out she was right. This was just a bit bland. It makes the mistakes many sequels make of having every character in the first book. That doesnt leave much scope for character development or mystery. I new character in the whole book.
Still a solid book but just on a level with many kid detective books, not much stands out.
I love how science-y and CLEVER this is. It’s so refreshing to read stories about kids who love school and learning! Funny and gorgeously illustrated too. What happens when someone is plotting to ruin your reputation and your spot in the science fair? Well you need to use your brain of course! Plus, team up with some brilliant friends and family. There’s lush messages in this about friendship, trying to fit in and family!
Anisha’s school is in a science fair against other schools too. She teams up with her best friend Milo and a boy called Govi. Together they make a volcano but it flooded and their teacher said they couldn’t go in the fair anymore. It turned out Govi sabotaged the project accidentally because he followed evil Mindy’s instructions. They sorted it out with the principal, and went to the science fair and they won!!
I rate it a 4.5 because at the beginning, I didn't really know if I'd like the book, but the more I read it, the more I enjoyed it . So I did enjoy the book.
Anisha and her two best friends Milo and Govi are working on their volcano for the science fair, but when Govi was at the bathroom and Anishia had gone to the headteachers office to talk about the science fair somebody sabotaged their experiment " Who would do such a thing " Milo exclaimed " And why? " they made a list of who they think sabotaged their project it was called SUSPECTS THAT SABOTAGED US. I hope you get stuck in this book like I did by Ada
