Three more installments in a great series (books 11-13). This compilation presents a slightly mellowed? more introspective? (but still clever and unconventional) DI Skelgill, and provides new appreciation for Sgts Jones and Leyton. I’ve spent the last month getting better acquainted with these main characters through their involvement in (at present count) 13 complicated mysteries. I’ve fumed over meetings with their imperious, unappreciative Chief, and felt incensed at the machinations of despicable DI Smart (a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen). And I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each and every book in this entertaining series.
I so enjoy reading the DI Skelgill books. They are not the racetrack, crashing, and violence found in many crime novels...which leads to so many characters and plots jumping a shark. Instead the books, are great at following the tracks as the team faces challenges and solve mysteries. I really like the books.
Bruce Beckham's DI Skelgill crime series has kept me riveted for over a month. Every time I think I have the bad guys figured out I get smacked in the face with a red herring. I have reread several books just to figure out where I went astray. Highly recommend this entire series to any lover of Dashiell Hammett, Agatha Christie, and good old-fashioned detective stories.
DI Skelgill and his team do not disappoint. The plots are unexpected and intelligent and the characters sometimes surprising. The descriptions of the Lake District and it's inhabitants are detailed, and one can even see it and even it. I really recommend them.
