In Carry That Quota, Jesse Rothstein provides an insider’s account of how to succeed in sales. Drawing on more than 15 years of sales experience across multiple fields and continents, Rothstein unpacks numerous essential topics. Chief among them are how to determine if a career in sales is right for you, how to cultivate productive relationships with clients and co-workers while still ensuring one’s professional development, and how to leverage a diverse set of tactics as the field evolves. Underpinning Rothstein’s argument is the belief that sales is a craft—not dissimilar from a doctor performing surgery or a lawyer prosecuting a case—that demands a complex skillset and knowledge. Whether you are just beginning your career in sales, a seasoned executive, or a professional in another field looking to hone your brand, Carry That Quota will equip you with concrete strategies to help you sell yourself and/or service more effectively.
This is a fantastic primer for each college graduate heading into industry, or anyone considering a customer facing role. I have yet to read a book that so simply and honestly spells out the day-to-day behaviors of what sales people do. Most literature on the sales profession is bombastic, hyper dramatized, and lacks the intellectual and emotional honesty needed to hook the reader. CTQ breaks that mold and will certainly stick with me for many years to come. The author opens up about his own mental and emotional wellness on the road; his legacy as a sales person; and the meaning and purpose behind the profession. This book adds much needed structure and purpose to a profession that, I agree, carries a negative stigma...and really shouldn't. CTQ is a short read, and accessible to people of all backgrounds--I finished it in a day. I sincerely wish I had a copy when I started carrying my first quota. I'll be sharing it with many of my colleagues.
This book is full of very tangible and adoptable sales strategies. I highly recommend picking this up if you are looking at exploring a career in sales or as a way to re-inspire yourself. Jesse is the perfect story teller and provides a ton of real life examples and tactics that will truly help you shift your strategy, get organized, and take control of your role. What I enjoyed most about this book is Jesse's holistic mindset towards building your legacy and leaving your mark in the world. Very inspiring!
I thoroughly enjoyed Carry That Quota. Ironically I’m not even in sales. Rothstein did a fantastic job balancing straightforward—and often neglected—advice (i.e. the importance of self care and effective time management) with relevant and interesting anecdotes. The common thread throughout is his emphasis on relationships.
I have read countless business / professional development books in my career where the author goes on and on forever. Rothstein provides sage advice in a tangible and accessible manner while keeping the reader engaged. I would recommend this book for all professionals not just those in sales. It’s a must read for young professionals to build a strong foundation in their careers.
hen I was a sophomore in college, I took my one and only sales class. I enjoyed it and decided that's what I wanted to do. Little did I know that 35+ years later it would become my life's work.
I only wish that back the beginning I had been given LinkedIn Sales Professional Jesse Rothstein's new book Carry That Quota. This book should be required reading in EVERY college sales program. I have read hundreds of sales books over the years and most are trying to get you to take on or buy their "new" sales method. Jesse focuses on the WHY and the HOW to become a true sales professional. He has broken into three sections: 1. Know thyself - Are you right for this career? 2. Relationships - Customer, coworkers, and self-development 3. Tools and tips of the trade - Basics to build from
This practicing Sales Professional can help you understand IF this profession is for you and then can give you enough tips to get off to a solid start on the road to becoming a true Sales Professional.
Just finished #CarryThatQuota by Jesse Rothstein! Talk about treating sales as a craft, he literally wrote the book on it.
Having worked with Jesse for a number of years, I’ve not only heard the lore of his impact on his customers, colleagues, and company, but witnessed it first hand. His book is a shining example of caring deeply about your work, operating with sincerity, and the infinite game of perfecting your approach.
A must read for anyone in sales or looking to pursue a career in sales. Jesse is a brilliant storyteller and is so passionate about making sales a true craft. There are hundreds of nuggets in here. Highly recommend!
Excellent book written by a sales rep for the sales rep. I couldn't agree more with the author that sales is a craft and a rewarding and fascinating career. The author makes it very personable with some stories that bring it to life.
Book is more suitable for fresh graduates exploring Sales as a career. If you have been in a sales role for a few years, most of the things mentioned in the book will be quite obvious to you.
