Pride is obnoxious, annoying, and dangerous. So why do we still struggle with it? Have you ever Am I the problem? Have you ever Why am I so selfish? Have you ever How can I live a happier, more peaceful life? Humility is an elusive trait. We are often told to be humble without being told how. In Humility Practice, Jacob Hudgins reveals a set of spiritual disciplines that will help us to practice humility. From fasting to arguing, from silence to confession, from gratitude to Bible reading, Hudgins shows how to recast everyday situations as opportunities to lower ourselves. There are ways we can walk toward humility, following the path of Jesus. At each step, we learn how to think more of God and others—and less about ourselves. Part Bible study, part devotional guide, and part call to action, Humility Practice is a handbook to lowly living.
Found this title by dumb luck after Goggling “how to be humble.” A lot of spiritual books and sermons are great at telling you “what” and “why” but neglect the all-important question of “how.” Humility is something that is attained with practice, not just good intentions, and this book elaborates numerous ways to cultivate humility every day.
“Humility Practice” is written by a pastor and quotes the Bible extensively, but most of the ideas are universal. I look forward to applying them in the coming days.
I can't say enough good things about this. It was just excellent. Such great insights into things we struggle with as we try to practice humility before God and with our fellow man. I loved the scripture connections and the action items. This is something to re-read from time to time and work on each of the 27 ways over a period of time. Becoming truly humble takes effort and practice, not a one-time read and toss. I'm convicted of several ways I need to work on, and committed to taking the time to work through them throughout the rest of my life.
This book is a great guide to practical applications of seeking humility and avoiding the dangers of pride in everyday life. I found myself convicted, encouraged and called to action as the author described different principles of humility and ways they can be applied. I really appreciated the format each chapter follows, showing the biblical importance of the principle, discussing challenges with applying it to our lives and giving some practical guidance on ways to implement them. A helpful and motivating read for anyone seeking to live like Jesus has called us to.
What I liked most about this book was the practical application of Biblical principles at the end of each chapter. Humility is an abstract idea that’s difficult to put into genuine practice, but this book is full of great ideas and actionable information. I will definitely be asking myself, “how can I practice humility today?”
