Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Protection of Magic by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle is book three in the series. This book continues the hunt for the stolen object, a traitor, a way to get her mom out of the psych unit, and find her grandmother. Later they find where the grandmother is and everyone feels it may be impossible except for our gal! We have so many interesting characters and silly situations, serious situations too! Lots of action, humor, and plenty of Magic for both worlds! Narrated by Carly Robins and again she excels at this performance!
Kindle Unlimited, really liking the new series, saw somewhere that there is or will be prequel! There's already various 'swag' and I want it all.

Quest For Magic - Prequel to Waking Magic: The Revelations of Oriceran (The Leira Chronicles Book Waking Magic: The Revelations of Oriceran (The Leira Chronicles Book 1) Release Of Magic: The Revelations of Oriceran (The Leira Chronicles Book 2) Protection of Magic: The Revelations of Oriceran (The Leira Chronicles Book 3)
Great characters, engaging storyline, and excellent writing. This book keeps you reading until the end and then you want more. It has action, friendships, and magic. Who could ask for anything more? Next book, please.
The story just continues to be quite enjoyable and the action is quite enjoyable. Liera's ongoing growth is quite enjoyable and she continues on with KATN. ( Amazon won't allow that to be spelt out) 😎
There aren't enough good words too describe this series and these two authors.. A magical detective with her "tribe" solving cases, fighting the dark and of course trying to keep track of the hilarious troll. Can't wait for more.
I am even thinking about getting a Yumfuck tattoo. A very fun read. I am so grateful that because of Kindle I am able to enjoy all these fantastic authors.
This series is finally developing. There are added new characters, resolutions to the missing mother and grandmother. It's a book about friendship making it a fun guilty pleasure.
I was mostly enjoying this book until the "mother efer" word was spit out about 6 times in 2 pages. When I was growing up, that word was a HIDEOUS insult and resulted in blood shed more often than not. I can't imagine how it became a popular word. Why not "baby efer" or is that next?
I truly wish ebooks and self-publishing never happened. Books USED to be edited, so they didn't contain a mistake on every page, horrible punctuation or the most hideous word in the English language.
It used to be that all you had to do to avoid that word was to not watch black comedians on stage. Now it seems like there's a challenge going on to see who can come up with the most disgusting, offensive, sexist, racist, degrading things to say in ebooks.
Protection of Magic is the third book in The Leira Chronicles by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle.
It's refreshing to experience all of the comradery and togetherness of the magical community. It makes it even more boggling that there is a creeping darkness spreading throughout their society, both on Earth and Oriceran. And even in the in between. Most upsetting is that the Prophets don't appear to have any extra magical knowledge or ability, or how would they not recognize the traitor leading them?
I'm concerned there may be more than one big blowout coming. Harkin is rebuilding his machine in hopes that he may truly safe his best friend from the magical malady and tampering that made him the beast he is today. But at the same time some mysterious nefarious unknown magical is copy his initial work and twisting it to create more of these beasts. I'm worried this disaster will come to pass. But even more, that Harkin made be used as a scapegoat and falsely blamed again.
Then there's the troubling way in which human nature invites negative reactions when confronted with the unknown. It's already showing itself within the Agents Leira has cone to work with. I'm frightened of when the panic hits the nonmagical masses, and what trouble they may unleash. The fact there are nefarious magicals lurking only complicates matters more.
I can't help falling into this world-building, and enjoying the characters as they develop and push the plot along. I'm glad Mara is back among the living, and one rookie Griffin has returned as well.
It will be most intriguing to see how Lois and Patsy contribute to the upcoming shenanigans, and how they pair with the decidedly mortal and nonmagical doughnut addict Hagan.
Once again, I started reading this book, and it caught me up in a whirlwind of events, so powerful, that I could barely catch my breath.
Leira really is learning, very quickly, to rely on her own instincts, where using her power is concerned.
Everyone she meets, sees something inside her that takes them aback, and they are doing all they can to help her get to know the magical side of herself.
As Leira has a plan, to release her Gran from the in-between place, which the Light Elf, Carrick, is constantly warning her is deadly dangerous, you'd think all of those who know about this, would be trying to stop her - but, instead, they take her by surprise, and promise to help!
While all of this seriousness is going on, I found so many occasions to laugh out loud - and, of course, it's because of Yumfuck, the Troll!
He is totally hilarious, and steals the show whenever things get tough, and I really loved that there's an extra story about him after the main story ends - and I devoured it almost as quickly as he can devour a doughnut! Lol
Once again, I've been left wanting more, and to go straight on to the next book in the Leira Chronicles.
But I've been honoured with an ARC Book to read and review, so I'll be doing that next, before I get totally sidelined by Leira and the rest of her story - which I WILL get back to after this next book!
The ARC book, is Book Four in The Fury of a Vampire Witch series, by Theophilus Monroe.
l love Theo's work, and am actually buying this whole series, as it's being released - in fact, I've bought every single book that he's published, so far!
Even though I haven't had a chance, yet, of reading this series, I'm excited to come to this Book Four fresh, so I can genuinely comment on something I've not read yet.
So, without ado, I'm off to start reading it now, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!
Leira's power is growing and she becomes more badass. She strikes a deal with the Feds to work for them if they get her mother out of the psych ward. She discovers that she has a family of friends more than willing to support her. She will need their help. Yumfuck the fun loving troll gets serious when it's necessary to protect Leira. I like watching Leira grow in power, wisdom and emotional maturity. The characters are great, well written, real and likeable. The series action and sequence moves charmingly along with twists and resolutions. Getting her Grandmother out of the place between worlds. I am about to begin the next book in the series "Rule of Magic".
Interesting, yes. Funny at times, Yes. Good story, yes. Protection of Magic does a lot of things right… but falls somewhat flat. The writing and storytelling didn’t improve from the last book to this one. Character growth was predictable in most fashions.
The previous book in the series had some major improvements from the first, and I was sad to see this book didn’t continue that trend. Though it did have quite some memorable moments. After all, Yumfuck steals the show when the story is shown from his point of view.
Overall a solid read, but not what I was hoping for. The storytelling could have been better, and it could have flowed a little smoother. I still look forward to seeing what comes next.
I found this story better than the first two. It kept a steady pace with out the highs and lows found in the first to books. Now that the characters are established, each one quirky and amusing its easier to read. Leira is finally understanding what family means.. they don't have to be blood related just by your side when you need them the most. She is learning about her magic, as well as fighting against the dark magic. With Correk and her mother's help, Leira takes on the biggest task of all.. get her grandma home. With her magical family and a troll beside her, Leira fights the black mist with all she has and learns more about herself than she ever imagined.
This storyline keeps getting better! I loved how it worked out near the end. Also, I followed the link for the new mug and I’m going to have to get one! I really liked the first one, but I couldn’t have it at work. Lol
Martha,
Great job! With the writing and it sounds like ‘the offspring’ as well. (I hope he doesn’t mind you call him that. ;) That he went and rescued people out of the disaster area shows great character and community spirit!
I just can't get enough of YTT!!! He is so awesome...I want one!! Anyways....another great book by Martha Carr! She did it again and there are still 5 more books in this series! I can't wait to read them all! Leira is a bada** and she is doing everything she can to get her grandmother out of the world in between! On to the next book! Thank you again Martha Carr for writing absolute awesome books and following your dreams! Keep them coming! (I'll catch up sooner or later)!!!
I truly needed this book at this particular time. I laughed out loud often, startling my poor dogs. Lol. I adore the Yumfuck character, it's usually his actions that get my tickebox going. But it is the loyalty and love of the large and growing family that has endeared this series to me. I'll probably buy both the Kindle and Audible editions of the entire series, just so I can get another shot of laughter and feel good action any time I need it. Thank you much to all the people who make these books possible. Enjoy!
It's been awhile since I have gone from one book in a series straight to another. I have enjoyed these characters enough to do so. The only thing I would like is better editing. Your books are not bad, but it breaks my concentration when I have to mentally add as word of correct a word before I can continue reading. BTW, my sister and her crew were among the evacuees in 2017. Very grateful to all those that were out there and rescued her, her son, 3 dogs and 3 cats (she's a foster)!
I started reading the Oriceran universe in an odd order. First with Cameron’s series on Magic City with Ruby then working backwards to Cameron’s Agents of Magic and now Leira’s whole intro to Oriceran. This Leira Series has been so engaging and this is my favorite book so far. It starts to get deeper into the characters with plenty of serious themes on family and good and evil. The troll provides a great comedic backdrop that loosens everyone (including the reader) up now and then.
Stuff is getting real! Leira is feeling her way around magic, and working for a bunch of Feds that either don't believe what they're told or are scared to death of her. She's getting tired of "that's impossible" and she's determined to get her grandma back. Oh yeah, and there's a big black must after her in the world between. Plus, the Silver Griffins still can't find that necklace the bad guys stole. Keepin' busy.
I started this series and I can’t put them down. I have to work sometime so I can buy more. Getting entwined in the story is a huge detriment to work ethics. Ok I love this series. I love the magical world that has been created and the learning curve for our heroine. Exciting worlds and the intertwined lives. I think starting at the beginning is important so start at book 1 please.
Book three done in the same week as I started. Book 1 and 2 that should tell you something
These stories are so fun and engaging,. I started book one earlier the same week. Couldn't put it down. Same with book two. Same with book three and I'm pretty sure the next one will be the same. These authors are brilliant. The storylines are a lot of fun. The character development is superb and the humor is spot-on
A missing mom? Why not add a missing grandmother? Yeah, that really works well...
Okay, new witch is super powerful but has no clue what she is doing, recipe for disaster? Apparently not. Need to solve a problem? Write a book about everything else, then just have the solution fall into the main character's lap. Need to add people to solve problems in the near future, no problem...
A story that has potential but can't seem to pull the trigger.
