Thank you for reading my bio and my books! I live and work in Dallas, TX. I'm the mother of two amazing daughters and two fantastic, intelligent grandsons, with one more on the way, and a wonderful son-in-law. I love to cook, travel, and write, but I'm also an avid reader. I can't take anymore. It's littered in every dialog sentence. You don't need someones name or a pet name in every sentence. It's overkill.
I could get over the lack of punctuation, but not this.

It's too insta-everything for me. It starts with a good premise. Grieving woman meets hardworn biker who does good. But at the 27% mark he's already all in without much build up to get there. She's been at his club for what feels like only days and she's already all over his face, telling him she wants his body, playing barmaid and putting the customers to rights. The timing just feels very off for a woman who only just lost her kids.

I'm DNF'ing this one.

DNF: TRIGGER WARNING: *Trauma Victims Stay AWAY!*

I really wanted to like this book, but this book is very poorly written. There is absolutely no flow, with a very choppy, juvenile quality to it. It appears to be written by a middle schooler, who watched her parents’ Sons of Anarchy DVD Collection, followed by watching some really raunchy porn with a side of BDSM kink.

As a psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience, I can assure you there is no way the heroine would have bounced back from this horrendous trauma without extensive therapeutic intervention. She most definitely would never have found being in the presence of former military men, now turned MC, as a healing experience. She most likely would have been catatonic, and if not, at least, needed immediate hospitalization to evaluate her most appropriate needs. Additionally, the presentation of her ex-husband as such an elusive, psychopathic villain is completely unrealistic based on the limited background, given by the author.

I realize romance novels are allowed all kinds of creative license, but the insta-lust/love between H/h, as well as, the over the top trauma really is offensive. Anyone who manages to survive such an ordeal is simply re-victimized by this depiction. The Hero comes across as a buffoon, and the heroine victim is returned to normal by the love a rough around the edges, alpha biker?!-This is ludicrous! This is further exacerbated by the awful writing with zero flow, and unending grammatical errors. The story line had some interest, but the author needed a good creative writing class and an even better editor. Additionally, do your research when writing anything that deals with such difficult issues, particularly, trauma, and by all means, include trigger warnings for victims of trauma in your book description.

I really hate to be so negative, but again, as a psychotherapist, this book just offended me on many levels. I DNF’d at 47% and I warn any victims of trauma or abuse to STAY AWAY,

Where on earth to start? I rated this book 2-stars and it was a kindness. Even if we ignore the rampant punctuation messes and typographical errors, this book is a train wreck…best to just get out of the way.

The book is adolescent although the initial topic (serious abuse) is not. It seems to be written by someone with a very narrow view of the world with no experience dealing with survivors of abuse, which makes the lead female’s tragedy just a device for the story. That is unforgiveable and offensive in the extreme. Even the discussion about mental health at the end of the book, while laudable, does not abrogate the injustice of using cruelty and harm simply as a means to lead up to the meet-cute (which is anything but cute).

Note to other readers who have not yet read this book: the following two paragraphs MIGHT comprise a spoiler. I’m not sure. I forced a great friend to read the book on my Kindle and she hated the book and then decided to hate me for making her read it in the name of our age-old friendship. Currently, she has banned me for the next foreseeable girls-night-out dates…sigh…. She thinks I should leave it in, so I shall:
In the first few pages, within the first 10% of the book – so no spoiler alert needed - Sloane (the female lead character) is thrust into the tremendous loss of her parents and twin daughters who are killed by her ex-husband. After the burials she gets drunk (understandably) and he returns for her, beats her up and slashes her with a knife. She manages to grab his knife, now dangling from his pocket, and push it into his shoulder, then kick his face which knocks him out…while handcuffed to a pipe that runs up the side of a wall. While in searing pain she searches his shirt pocket, finds the handcuffs’ key and frees herself then cuffs him to the pipe. Next she finds his wallet, takes $312, grabs her slashed dress and takes off in her SUV driving non-stop for two days from Alabama (we are led to infer) to Virginia where she crashes her SUV near the clubhouse of – wait for it – the Steel Patriots MC and into the arms of the eponymous Ghost. Some meet-cute, eh? She is not a ninja, not an Army Ranger, not a fight club aficionado, not a Delta operative; she’s a mom and manager of a restaurant.

We assume she is still in her bedroom and only later in the book do we decipher that she was taken to a cabin for this abuse. The writer doesn’t tell us that she has been moved from her bedroom by her ex-husband. The only indication of this change in venue is that she is confused when she leaves the room she was brutalized in and isn’t sure of her location (easy to understand after the brutalization).

I should have stopped reading here; I wanted to, but instead went into speed-read mode.

The story’s timeline is off, as if the writer changed her mind, went back to update parts of the book; this served to make the story choppy and disconnected. She drove for 2 days straight, was asleep in the clubhouse for 4 days and later we are told that “she’d been gone from her home for more than two weeks now.” How’s that? And still later we’re told that her husband kept her for 10 days.

The insta-love that the male lead, Ghost, feels for Sloane is wildly inappropriate. What about a horrendously battered woman is romantic? That’s the love we are led to believe Ghost felt for Sloane when he carried her to the clubhouse from the gate. No waiting to get to know her, no waiting to hear her tale of woe, just a battered body. What on earth is there to romantically love about a pummeled body? That’s just weird and not at all amorous.

By comparison a minor issue is the first class upgrade on a ticket to London. According to the storyline the family lives carefully; it appears to be a last minute upgrade since the twins are packed for their trip which begins after their graduation party. So, there is no time for a cut-rate deal. The book was copyrighted in 2013 and at that time, a first class round trip ticket New York City – London cost $10,000 on a Boeing 777 on American Airlines or British Airways. These girls were to have been traveling in Europe before starting college. Wow: the times they could have had with $10,000. This little tidbit simply adds to the unbelievability factor.

The story goes on. And on. And on. There is more of the same with Sloane adapting quickly to the loss of those she held most dear (if we are to believe her back story). Her behavior does not support her loss. While the grieving process differs among us all, the Kubler-Ross model of grief management is generally followed (although it has its critics, some form of grief management always occurs in compassionate human beings).

The story is so implausible it cannot be enjoyed without constantly suspending disbelief. I hope this book does not showcase the writer’s talent because, in this case, it is lacking. I paused between a 1-star rating and 2-star. I gave it a 2-star and that was a gift.

DNF at 33%

I really tried. Honestly I did but I just could not handle it anymore. Below are a few of the reasons why I had to DNF.

Firstly, h has experienced some major trauma and I found it very hard to believe how quickly and easily she seemed to be coping with it without any kind of professional help.

Secondly, the insta love was a big wtf for me. He essentially falls in love the moment he meets her which is weird considering he found her badly beaten and traumatised but I digress. It just jumped straight into them having sex despite the fact very little dialogue is exchanged between the 2.

Which leads me to my next point, the timeline is so choppy. One second the boys find Gracie and nurse her wounds then we're all of a sudden catapulted 3 months into the future. What. The. Hell.

Here I am still reeling and trying to make sense of it, now she has a job then BOOM they're having sex. Literally no lead up besides one make out session and a few pecks. We just move into the next chapter and they're already having intercourse LOL

By this point I'm using all my will power to continue on but then I got to the kitchen scene and it just all seemed so juvenile. The constant pet names pushed me over the edge. How often does Ghost need to call her Baby Girl. We get it.

Anyways, im super disappointed I didn't enjoy this as much as I would have loved too.

Really terrible. So basic. No emotion, no depth. Her two daughters have just been murdered by their father, who takes her and tortures her and instead of crying and wailing at their loss, or the pain she's apparently in, she's smiling at all the handsome bikers, crushing on the hero and making this flippant and ridiculous comment to herself, and I quote,- "Great indication that you need a damn life!" Awful. Really awful stuff.

The character's thoughts and actions were just too flippant and ridiculous, making this ridiculous to read. She's smiling at stupid things like a new toothbrush and new clothes just days after her daughters are killed! They're dead and she's smiling and crushing on him! And he's crushing on her and falling in love as soon as he sees her, when fyi, she's beaten so badly she's unrecognizable. Awful stuff.

The writing was very basic, wrong words, poor grammar, bad punctuation, past and present tense used in the same sentence. The dialogue was terrible. It was too insta everything. It's also very repetitive, and no research done into any of the issues mentioned. But the biggest issue was how flippant and ridiculous it was. One of the worst, most basic books I've ever read. Just couldn't read any more of this rubbish. DNF at less than 20%.

disappointing! so much potential.

I saw this pop up in a FB readers group, when the trauma to the family was mention, I like a good MC so thought I’d give it a go, new to me author.

I never want to dislike a read, I finished it but man was it hard going, with the constant use of baby girl or Gracie girl grating, just the tip of the iceberg.

After the initial trauma, which was major trauma, we dove straight into to falling in love. There was just no depth to it, too rushed, no attention to detail, just trauma, sex and then falling in love. Could have been so much more. Writing in the 3rd person, which isn’t my first choice, having the pov of so many gave me a headache and I’m sure at one point a 1st person dropped.

After reading the likes of Hades Hangman series and Clifton Forge (Tin Gypsy as was) to mention a few, this unfortunately paled in comparison.

I’m sorry but no more for me. 😔

Amazing!

I loved this introduction to this new MC series. I absolutely loved the fact that they were in their 40s, I loved the fact that this wasn't a typical MC. These men were do-gooders, doing what they knew to get women and children out of situations that they didn't deserve to be in. They really had amazing values and I loved to see it. I loved Ghost and Grace, I loved their relationship and I loved her motherly relationship with the rest of the boys, they really loved and respected her and it was beautiful to see, can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This book started off with such a strong opening. I was breathless and just so incredibly sad, but then it just fell flat for me. The Insta-love, super sweetness of an older biker man and the pet names every other sentence was just over the top.

What a mess this book was. It started off so engaging, and went downhill REAL FAST.

I had to stop at Chapter 9 because I just couldn't take the unrealistic turn that this book took.

Her twins, parents & neighbor are murdered by her ex husband. After the burials, the next scene is her coming to from being beaten by her ex husband for days. There is no mention that he showed up & kidnapped her. She comes to, grabs his knife & stabs him. He passes out. She grabs the key to the handcuffs from him to escape & handcuffs him to the (something - I don't even remember). She gets dressed & gets in her car. She has no idea where she is, so she drives endlesslessly until she crashes her car into a tree. She walks & ends up at the MC's compound.

The members of the MC try to find her car the following day & couldn't find it. HOW FAR COULD SHE HAVE WALKED? She was tortured for a week straight.

Ghost, who is in his late 40's has never been in love, but somehow is in love with Grace within days of her showing up beaten & battered. The "Doc" fixes all of her injuries. If I read "baby" or "baby girl" one more time, I might have thrown my kindle.

There is no timeline. This book just jumps around, making no sense.

I would have loved to read about how they found her ex & tortured him because he deseverved it, but I couldn't read another word in this book once I got to Chapter 9.

There is no way Grace bounced back the way she did (couldn't tell you the time line, because there wasn't one) without any professional therapy. Her daughters & parents were murdered, she was tortured to near death. There is no way she would be able to function the way she did without professional help.

I'm disappointed because the opening to both Grace & Ghost made them interesting. By Chapter 9, I could have cared less about either of them.

The other guys in the MC were likeable, but I'll pass on the rest of this series.

I once again thought I had the start of all these connected series and didn't, but was far enough in that I just continued with this one.

I felt for Grace at the start, hated that by doing right by her girls and their wishes she lost everything, hated it even more when he ex showed up again when she was at her lowest and was determined to hurt her more. Grace was just lucky that she got the upper hand was and was able to run and when she hit her bottom was in the best place possible for people to help her out, the Steel Patriots.

Grace arriving the way she did really shook people up, but they stepped up to help her in the immediate and then talk to her and find out more to help more in the long run. Grace and Ghost falling for each other was just the bonus for both of them. It was fun to see the couple fall and for the whole MC to see that happen and for Grace to sort of mother then all.

The ending to this one was great! Loved seeing the family setting at a holiday, along with the great announcement from Ghost. Such good news for them all!

Forever Brothers

The series begins with a bang. Navy SEAL Eric "Ghost" Stanton makes a decision that changes his and his teams life. Honourably discharged the guys create their own MC, dedicated to helping those in need. One such person is Grace Easton who arrives at the compound broken physically and emotionally, Ghost is captivated by her and swears to right the wrongs done to her. If he can keep her alive maybe they can find forever in each others arms.

Let me say first off I'm generally not a fan of MC romance, but this book is not typical in any way. For a start these guys are completely legit. They're not into drugs, gun running or trafficking. In fact they are the total opposite. All the men still hold to their military code of honor and I can't wait to see how that will translate for missions in the future. I would recommend this Free Kindle Unlimited series to lovers of great romantic suspense but if you're into the standard MC books this is probably not for you.

Beautiful with Action

This is a beautiful story with plenty of action. I saw the cover on this one and I knew I had to try it out.I loved it from start to finish. I stayed up all night reading. We have an ex husband who kills his ex in laws, a neighbor, and his twin daughters. That brought me to tears. Hubby has caught his wife Grace and decided to beat her up. She managers to escape. She managed to get to the Steel Patriots. She's a broken woman in more ways than one. Now, we've got the lunatic hubby out to kill her, the Patriots take her in and the president of the group quickly falls for her. There is sexual content. There's more we have a bad biker club. All they want is to sell drugs, children & women trafficking, plus selling illegal arms. The bad club also wants Grace, but not going to happen. She likes it where she's at. This is a new author for me and I'm happy to say I will get more of her books. I'm going to love this series.

Get the book, do yourself the favor

Great book. The good guy MC, not the lawless 1%.
Excellent character development. Well written. The story itself held my interest, woman has evil ex husband who murder her entire family including their twin teenage daughters. The book follows her recovery and establishing a new life and friends. The friends are exactly the kind of people she needed, the kind anyone would who is looking for loyal and caring people in their life.
My only criticism of this book and others is that when a woman finds that she is pregnant forget that nonsense about being worried how the father will react, it’s your baby have your own emotions. I recommend this book.

Way too many

Ellipses! There were ellipses everywhere. They were where they didn’t need to be. Where a comma or period would suffice. This poor book had soooooo many errors, I almost DNF! I can’t not finish a book, but I was very close to it. In my reading, if there are too many mistakes it takes away from the story. Wrong word choices in so many places, I began to overlook those so I could finish.

The timeline jumps got confusing. At one point, the story jumps 2 months, but it’s not really well portrayed or explained. This story, just wasn’t that good. I’m tempted to read the next in the series, but I’m afraid of the ellipses.

The writing is cringe worthy corny the story ridiculous and corny formulaic and did i say corny?

Add on insta love and the worst dialogue ever means I really can't continue with this book.

Oh and...
Realism: hmm let's see shes a manager of a restaurant and has saved every penny to put the twins through uni. On top of that she upgrades the girls flights to Europe to first class? Seriously? So ridiculous.

Time jumps. One minute grace just arrived and a paragraph later they're talking about her being there 2 months! Bizarre.

Awesome story with all the feels

This is an amazing story and series. It takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster. The beginning was so sad that it was difficult to imagine how Grace coped with the horrific murders of her children and parents on the same day by her ex husband. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. But, the amazing Steel Patriots take her in and help her find herself again with a new amazing family with Ghost. I love MC books and Mary Kennedy Jas created books that are hard to put down and I couldn't wait to read the next book.

I kept taking breaks while reading this book

First time reading this author. The core of the story is a very over done one. The first chapter should have been the prolog. There are numerous editing mistakes, not truly enough to stop most seasoned readers. I was glad to see that the next book was not in KU. As I do not plan on reading more from this author. Why? The timeline doesn't add up, the tense kept changing mid page, and the way the characters are written.

Grace and Ghost

This is my first time reading this author and she did a great job with these characters. I really hated what Grace went through regarding her family and thank goodness that she stumbled onto their property and that these warriors took great care of her. Her ex was a menace to society and I really enjoyed seeing these guys take down that other biker club, because they were disgusting brutes. Happy reading.

Disappointed

I had a very hard time getting through this. The story is very chopping. One sentence is real time and then two sentences later is two months away. Its hard to follow and the same terms of endearment is used over and over and over again. Character says Baby girl 6 or 7 times in a paragraph. I really liked the personalities of the characters but I don't believe I will continue on with the series.

Ghost

This was a fast pace book but it does have potential to be a great book. I would've love to see the characters developed more but that's not to say it wasn't a great read which it is. Since this is book one, I'm gonna give it another go to book 2 and see what happens. Just jnow this my personal opinion, I may feel different about the book bit that doesn't mean someone else couldn't find it the best book ever.

Ghost: Steel Patriots MC- Book 1

Mary Kennedy has written Ghost. The book is the first in the Steel Patriots Series. Kennedy made me cry. She handled issues with Grace and Ghost that are an every day occurrence. I lost a husband and a young son. This book resonated with me. The grief that overtakes you. The eventual healing and the guilt. This was an amazing book about the trials of life. Excellent.

Love this book!

.The Steel Patriots are a terrific group of guys who take care of their own and when Grace stumbles into their mist, beaten and bruised, that’s exactly what they do. The story progresses from there and I found there were a lot of tears for Grace, as well as warmth and humor. Not your typical MC story - I thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

A new favorite

I love MC and military books. This is my first time reading Mary Kennedy but won’t be my last. I absolutely loved Ghost and Gracie’s story. From when she collapsed in Eagles arms at the gates to their HEA. The other members of the team are so alpha and interesting I can’t wait for their own stories. Highly recommend this series after just finishing the first one.

Great Story

I really loved that this book was about an older group of people. There were definitely some not so nice things that happened in this book but the story was very good. The reason I took away a star was because I feel like some of the story was rushed. I also wish it was in first person instead of third.

Well it is ok.

It is a series that was written fast. With a minimum of research done. Always the same story line, same love story, same problem. If you want something that is not too original, and that repeats itself, and ideas from other books. This is the book for you.It has the base where it could be a amazing series, but it is not.

Didn't like

DNF plz don't hate me but I couldn't finish it. Got about half way through. Started out cool. But it seemed like it robbed some other stories and pieced it together. Very very similar aspects to some popular books I've read. But didn't fill the middle with good writing, love scene, yuck. Just very lacking.

Ghost and Grace

This is an engaging MC read. A woman goes to pick up a cake and comes home to find her ex has murdered her daughters, her parents, and her neighbor. Her life spirals from there to an MC compound where Ghost helps right her world. This is a sweet read with an HEA after some issues with a rival MC in some illegal shenanigans with the Russian Mafia.

Great!

I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty great and decent book. I really enjoyed most of the characters. This was a book of compassion, kindness, falling in love again, and dealing with a really, really bad tragedy. Also overcoming that tragedy and falling in love again. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance and MC lovers.

I tried. It started out with a bang. The beginning of this book was very intense and I couldn’t wait to see where it would go from there. But then it went to crap quickly. The insta-love was too much. Ghost was in love within minutes of seeing Grace even though she was not even conscious. The story became way to cheesy and sickly sweet and nothing at all like what I was expecting.
