The only clue to her identity—Sloan’s name carved into her arm.

If that wasn't enough, the FBI has launched a full-scale investigation into her private life, believing Sloan might not be as innocent as she claims.

With her boyfriend, Warren Parish, deployed with the Marine Corps, Sloan’s only ally is Detective Nathan McNamara. Their friendship is already complicated, and its limits are about to be tested. Sloan has a secret…one that could turn even Nathan against her forever.

Second read: This one made me feel bad for Nate. The poor guy needs to distance himself from Sloan for a while, even though it would break my heart to see them apart from each other.

_______________________

With Warren gone, Sloan must deal with her pregnancy alone while trying to figure out her relationship with Nate and, of course, escaping near-death situations every week or so. Sloan’s life is so fucked up, having demons attacking her, or angels at her place for breakfast is not even exciting anymore. Things get more serious, though, as her evil mother and her accomplices are desperately trying to get their hands on Sloan because her baby will be the most powerful half-angel there is or has ever been since its parents are both half angels of life and death. On a side note, I also wish to see more of Adrianne in the next book; she’s funny and sweet, and I missed her in this book.

Adrianne was rubbing her eyes with her knuckles when she opened the front door. She leaned against the doorframe and surveyed my wild hair, disheveled pajamas, and the overnight bag in my hand. “This can’t be good,” she said through a yawn.
My teeth were chattering. “Can I come in?”
She stepped out of the way, and I rushed into her two-story loft apartment. She locked the deadbolt behind me. “What’s up?”
I pulled the scarf from my neck. “There might be a demon at my house. Can I sleep here?”
“Did you bring the demon with you?” she asked. I shrugged my shoulders.
“I don’t think so, but I can’t be sure.”

This series is such a fun and easy read; I’m really enjoying it! I have to say that I enjoyed this book a little less than the previous ones. The first 2/3 of this book are slower, and honestly, while there was action, I feel that nothing truly relevant happens besides Sloan trying to figure out her feelings for Nate and surviving a few attacks. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of things happening, but the plot does not move forward that much until the last third of the book. The fact that Warren is also absent for most of the book changed the funny dynamic I loved so much in the other books… His absence also does not seem to have a real purpose besides complicating the love triangle.

“You can love them both. But sometimes, the most loving thing we can do for someone is let them go.”

For the first time since I’ve started this series, I felt bad about the whole love triangle situation. In the first two books, the dynamic between Sloan, Warren, and Nate was funny, and Nate was mature, wanting Sloan to be happy with Warren and being okay with having a friendly relationship with her, even though he made no secret about the fact that he was hoping for more. They even joked about it, and everyone seemed to be fine with it (well, as fine as one can be when he’s in love with a girl that he can’t be with). Now, with Warren being deployed for a few months, we’re back to where it all began with Nate and Sloan spending all their time together, and we could see in this book how it took its toll on Nate. How he was hoping to get a chance once Warren was out of the picture, even though he cares about Warren and does not want to hurt him, and how being just best friends with Sloan was not working because he couldn’t stop wanting more.

It was at least thirty yards straight up the side of that hill. Warren looked back over his shoulder. “Hey, Nate. What does this remind you of?”
Behind us, Nathan began mimicking my voice. “I’m tired. My legs hurt. This is too steep. I want to go to the car.”
If I had something I could throw at him, I would have. Warren was chuckling. A good sign, considering he’d almost killed Nathan hours before.

I really loved Nate in this book. I went from loving both guys to secretly hoping that Sloan would end up with Nate. Even though Warren is like her soulmate and I love him and he’s perfect, Nate was so so soooooo sweet and patient and kind and caring in this book, and it broke my heart to see him being heartbroken. I’m officially Team Nate now. 😁❤️

Despite the whole love triangle getting more complex and Nate getting hurt, I was happy to see that he and Warren were still able to be kind of buddies. Even though I know it’s not a healthy trio at the moment, I like their interactions too much, and they truly make a kickass team.

“While I fielded holiday news requests and worked on my end of year expense reports, the Angel of Death sat opposite my desk and played Angry Birds on his cell phone.”

Azrael is now involved in the plot, and I love him… For now… He’s ruthless and scary, but at the same time, he’s deadset on protecting Warren and Sloan, and he was also kind of unintentionally funny, so I like him. He has a grumpy personality that shows he is not fooling around or wasting his time, but that also makes me smile because I know Adrianne and Sloan will eventually wear him down.

The h has become a nuisance to the story. She's immature, short-sighted, & indecisive.
The "love triangle" is getting old.

The Angel of Death
By: Elicia Hyder
Narrated by: Brittany Pressley
Series: The Soul Summoner Series, Book 3
There is a big surprise for Warren and he meets his dad! Thankfully he wasn't anything like Sloan's mom! More characters, more excitement, suspense, and romance! Very interesting series!
Great narration!

I have such conflicting feelings about this book.
PROS:
- Azrael was unintentionally funny and weird. All around interesting and rather annoying. Yes, I am listing annoying as a pro because it was entertaining to read.
- Taiya was a surprising but good addition to the cast. I liked her childlike ways. I also enjoyed her character progression from being completely freaky to rather endearing.
- Adrianne! I missed her in the second book. She is fun, girly, sweet, and rather edgy.

CONS:
- Warren was missing for most of the book. WHY?! It seemed to have served no purpose other than to progress the 'love triangle'.
- Speaking of which --- love triangle ended up being a flat line! Nathan was literally in her bed at one point. Why would any of them allow that?
- The amount of men living in Sloan's house. WHAT THE HELL? I love my in laws, but hell if I just met them, I'd not allow them to literally move in with me while my husband's away.
- Azrael's weird teaching techniques. If the guy was that ancient and lived among humans for a very long time, he'd understand how to teach without resorting to firing a gun in the house.

If it wasn't for some of the outside characters and the witty writing style, I'd hate this book. I can barely stand Sloan right now anyway. I may continue with the series but not for a few days.

Okay, look. I like both Nathan and Warren. I do. But I really hate this love triangle. I find it very hard to believe someone can be "in love" with more than one person. Sloan just not choosing reeeeally pisses me off. Like, yeah, I like Nathan a billion times more, but god, I wish she had just picked who she wanted to be with last book. I don't care who. I'm really bummed how much this book focused on the love triangle.

But seriously Nathan is so much better and just. Ugh. It's a good thing I like Sloan as much as I do, or I'd be pissed. More pissed. Whatever.

I can't get enough of this series. I am eating it up like candy. It's such a fun easy read and perfect for getting me through this monster flu that has had me in bed for 4 days! About to start book 4 now.
Audible: I added the whispersync audible narration to this kindle book. It is the same narrator as the prior books in the series and she does a really good job. I think I like her more with each book in the series.

Sloan Jordan is pregnant, and that’s only one of her problems. Warren, the baby’s father, is on active service and can’t be reached. Sloan still can’t shake her attraction to Nathan, there’s a crazy woman with Sloan’s name carved into her flesh on the loose, weird and disturbing dreams suddenly gain substance they have no right possessing, and the FBI want her for questioning.
When Warren’s father unexpectedly turns up, things go from weird to insane, for Azrael is the archangel of death...
This third instalment of the Soul Summoner series ramps up the supernatural content exponentially. I was delighted to discover that all the explanations – the how, why and what – of this world made sense, delivered in manageable bites and in plain language – no pretentions here.
I did find one section rather slow – the getting to know Nathan’s extended family felt very cozy, but many of the admittedly delightfully described scenes did little to move the plot forward. That aside, once the action got going the pace raced ahead and the final battle was awesome. Sloan having developed some powers of her own added much to her strength as a character, and the guys were all thoroughly well depicted – manly with a touch of vulnerability, and way too much testosterone!
As before, there is a highly satisfactory conclusion to the story arc of this individual book, but it also leaves us with an almighty cliff hanger leading on to the next. Can’t wait!
Note - I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) in return for an unbiased review – all opinions are my own.

I enjoy the story and the characters but the books in this will never be more that a 3 star because of that stupid love triangle. No matter what happens I can’t be completely happy. At least Sloane has made her final choice. Unfortunately it wasn’t the choice I wanted her to make. It is not that I don’t like Warren, or even Warren & Sloan together. It is that Nathan & Sloan spend more time together and they have a better dynamic. Their banter is amusing and their connection and support for one another is great. With Warren & Sloan we are told they have this amazing connection (due to their shared heritage) but with Nathan & Sloan we actually SEE it. Also I don’t like what happened at the end with Warren

It is hard to put this series down! You should read the books in order.

Sloan's life has been crazy from the moment she meet Warren and Nathan. Now she has to deal with the FBI. In this book you find out more about what Sloan and Warren are and what they are capable of.

Elicia adds a little something at the end that makes you want to immediately pick up the next book.

Reached the limit of my suspension of disbelief. Sloan’s sarcasm is getting old. I’m interested in the basic story, and enjoy the angel mythology but it’s getting a little over the top.
Taking a break and will come back to it.

We get new side characters here. I liked one, was irritated other. But plot was more boring than in previous books.

Warren was almost all the time absent. Nathan was even more ass than previously. His family: whats wrong with them? They are made funny about Nathans (ex) gf. Why? What did she ever do them? I can understand that Sloan liked them, because level was as low as hers. Mean and shallow, "lets make fun of the girl who was nothing but bad treated by Nathan". Seriously? I just hated them. And like I assumed: it was missed opportunity to make Shannon interesting sidecharacter who evelopes to be something else. She was just tossed away.

There was some chapters which were interesting, emotional, exciting or funny. But yet this was more frustrating and boring, just almost started skipping couple times.

And surprise surprise: cliffhanger in the end.

I was kindly given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hold onto your mukluks because this book is going to blow them off. This story isn’t just paranormal. It’s PARANORMAL. I’m talking epic, with battles between angels and demons, good vs. evil.

We left off in the last book with Sloan Jordan’s boyfriend, Warren Parish, being re-deployed and leaving for the middle-east when she realizes that she’s pregnant.

The story in this book takes place during the time just before Thanksgiving to just before Christmas.

In the beginning of this story Sloan is seeing her OB/GYN and trying to figure out how she is going to tell the important people in her life that she is pregnant with Warren’s baby. Her relationship with Detective Nathan McNamara is still platonic but that gets tested when she accompanies him to his sister’s burial service, where she gets to meet his family. During this visit there is a hilarious scene with one of Nathan’s nephews that literally had me laughing out loud. Also, Sloan finds out that the FBI is still investigating her as a person of interest in the sex slave trafficking case that her mother was involved in. Queue the ominous music.

We meet many new characters, both good and evil.

There were some scenes that made me cry. At one point Sloan asks her dad why she can't love them both. Her dad says three-way relationships don't work. I say why not?

Sloan learns to harness her angelic powers. I particularly love the scene of Sloan practicing with an orange. It reminds me of Luke practicing with the Marksman-H combat remote in Star Wars.

Officer Nathan McNamara has a ball cap he wears with interchangeable slogan patches. My favorite one was “The ATF should be a convenience store, not a government agency.” As you can see this story is laced with humor.

Remember little Kayleigh who was rescued in the first book? She makes a prediction about Sloan’s baby because it turns out she has an ability to see things others can’t. And there are more who have her ability.

*gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review*

THIS WAS AMAZING!!!! Like what just happened? I'm being hit by all these things. T_T

Warren or Nathan. Nathan or Warren. I absolutely despise love triangles but this series was the exception. However, it's book three now and I'm expecting her to choose (and I'm rooting for Warren). It was so hard to decide because they both seemed so nice and like- couldn't we just all get along? *thinks* Probably not. So this is the make or break installment, the magical number to decide for her who she will CHOOSE to be with.

On top of all the romantic drama, demons from her past (book 2) are coming back to bite her on the petunia (or is that for the other side?) and she's slowly realizing just how much trouble she's in. This was just riveting, because she has so many complications that doesn't click with normal life. How will she maintain her facade of normalcy? And then to top it all off, the ending completely BLOWS me away with its shocking- I can't say it. But God, was it good.

This book is engaging, hilarious, adorable, heartbreaking, (may make you wish you were in there to choke a certain person) and so great in its writing style and theme of sweetness. Even amongst all the animosity and evil, this book still manages to keep its light-hearted tone. Is it the theme of the book though or just Sloan? Can't tell. I was too busy wishing the fourth book was out already. -_- Definite recommend-you-need-to-read read.

Soul Summoner: 3
Following the pattern, this book takes place three weeks after the last one. Sloan is a mess - blame it on hormones or her own personality weaknesses, but she breaks out into tears nearly ever other scene in addition to being unfaithful, lazy, and unmotivated - she's just not a very sympathetic character. The story is difficult to immerse into because Sloan is suffering from realistic dreams making the reader doubt what is real or not, which throws me out of the story. As a writing device, it definitely doesn't work for this author. The story as a whole has devolved from the original mystery/romance premise into the supernatural, verging onto the religious. I'm giving up on this series. The one positive thing I can say about this series is that the sex scenes are fade to black, so no suffering from juvenile porn language found in many romance novels.

Enough with the fuckinh cheating on Warren.... it has been going on for 3 books now - and I'm soooo over it.

Imagine if it was the other Way around and Warren was the one moving his ex in to his house and kissing multiple times. Like wth... grow a pair, be an adult, make a choice and treat people with respect. Warren should kick her ass out.. cheating on him when his deployed... shaking my damn head!

for this installment I would only give 2.5 stars, mostly because of the h but also because of the love triangle, it got old. the h was annoying and immature and I didn’t like her. the H wasn’t in the picture almost until the end and if I were him, I would have sent her to hell. the only reason this book gets 4 stars is because of azrael and all side characters. I hope the next one gets better.

Wow! This book is full of surprises.

I couldn't put this book down. I literally went from book two straight into book three and stayed up the rest of the night reading this enthralling story. The dynamics between Warren, Slone, and Nate are intense. The plot is well woven with unexpected twists.

I highly recommend this book!

Sloan, Warren, and Nathan's journey into the world of good and evil continues. This book is not the end but will give you an ending. For every question that is answered another will take it's place. If you love a good paranormal series this is it. I cannot describe how much I enjoyed it and now I have to wait until Elicia Hyder finishes the next book. Maybe I can send a little angel to nudge her along!

Like Pringles: Once you start reading, you can't stop til it ends
If you liked the first two books in the series (Soul Summoner and Siren), then you will thoroughly enjoy Angel of Death. In it Hyder answers so many questions. Things like:
1. Who was Abigail hanging out with that she got a headache?
2. What's Sloan going to do about the baby? Tell her friends? Her Dad? Nathan?
3. How're things in the love triangle now that Warren is away and Nathan stayed home to play?
4. Why'd the Marines reactivate Warren?
And so much more. Plus we get more time with Adrianne, Sloan's BFF, who has some juicy scenes and a hot new love interest.

Every time I thought I knew what was coming, Hyder would wrap a twist in that shocked, surprised, or had me yell, "No. Way." As if that weren't enough (and not being able to predict normally is enough), she added some new characters who mix things up in unexpected ways.

But I'll tell you again what I said in the beginning, if you liked the first 2 books, you will be hard pressed not to read Angel of Death in a single sitting. Sure it's longer than the previous books. It's also just better.

I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in exchange for an honest review.

The 3rd book in The Soul Summoner Series...Wonderful. I love Ms. Hyder's story line. It blows me away. She draws you in and makes you love the characters right away.

Sloan Jordan is still in love with Nathan McNamara. But she also loves her boyfriend Warren Parish . They truly are soul mates. Nathan may understand a little about her special gifts, but some are better left unsaid. He soon learns more then he's bargained for.
So while Warren is deployed Nathan makes a promise to watch out for Sloan. The only thing is he pushes thing too far.

Sloan is hiding something from Nathan. How does he tell him? She can't help the feelings she has for both men. Nathan came into her life first. It's impossible to turn those off. But she has to or risk losing them both forever. When The Angel of Death comes to her door things take a new turn. The things she learns from him are out of this world, and a little scary.

Exciting I say the least. It's a must read. Laughed so much. Heart raced. Amazing.
Must read the entire series.

This book is very hard for me to rate.

On the one hand, the plotting is excellent. Hyder took to heart the saying put your characters out on a limb and then set the tree on fire. It was a little slow in the beginning, but picked up marvelously at the end.

On the other hand, things in this book really opened my eyes to what a selfish, immature, weak-willed character Hyder created. She never really chose between the men. One of them chose for her. She couldn't face hardship (and that includes getting up in the morning) without turning into an obnoxious, whiny child. It stopped being amusing.

And does anyone in this series have a real job that you have to go to every day or get fired?

Well boys and girls, there you have it. Sloan FINALLY chose! I'm sad so very sad it wasn't my guy. I thought for sure she'd see it. Yes she loves both Warren and Nathan. Being pregnant definitely complicated things. But I thought having some alone time with both guys she would realize which one was right for her. I get it, Warren and Sloan are half human half angel so they are "meant" but what if....what if Nathan is her human half? What if Nathan is Sloan's human soul mate?
Anyway the story is getting more interesting lots and lots of changes have happened. Both guys are stuck to Sloan like second skin. Sloan is learning more about who she is and who she is meant to be.
Can't wait to read more.

OMG, that ending!!! I was fully prepared to scream, cry and throw my Kindle....and then everything changed and I did a happy dance.....and then I screamed because now I have to wait for the next book!!! All of this in the last 5-10% of the book, just wow.

So, I have spent the last two days binge reading this series and the only thing I really have to complain about is the fact that I need more books now! Right NOW. Overall, this book was awesome. This whole series so far has been well written, with enjoyable characters and an engaging plot. I loved this series and I couldn't recommend it more.
