For Maiden Voyage lead vocalist, Derek Masters, life has had its fair share of ups and downs. Most recently, almost losing his best friend and lead guitarist, Ryder Hampton while they were on the road. They’ve just come off a whirlwind European tour and have a few weeks of R&R before hitting Rocktoberfest in Nevada this fall.
While Derek’s looking forward to time with his family, the loneliness of living in his big, empty house suffocates him. Seems rest isn’t always what one needs. For Derek, he’s a natural caregiver, always wanting to help others. Even when its not in his best interest.
Logan Bell has wanted to be a teacher since playing school in his backyard with his childhood friends. He loves to nurture young minds, and teach them the necessary skills in ways they can grasp and retain it. Never for a moment did he think that gift would be turned on him.
Can two souls who feel the need to be there for everyone, find a way to be there for themselves? Or will their hopes and dreams all be washed away like rushing floodwaters in a monsoon storm?
Maiden Voyage series must be read in order as each book starts where the last one ended but is from another band members point of view:
TL Travis is the published author of a plethora of LGBTQ+ Erotica and Romance musings that have earned her a “Best Selling Author” flag in the US as well as Internationally.
In her spare time, when she’s not weaving steamy webs, she enjoys fishing, wine tasting and people watching. Everyone has a story to tell, half the fun is conjuring what it is.
TL’s surrounded by her 4-legged rescue family, her sons and adorable grandson. She will continue saving furry friends in need for as long as she can. Tl would like to remind you to “Adopt, not shop.” Saving that lost soul may very well save yours.
Well let’s start with the fact that TL Travis obliterated my heart with Derek’s Destiny. Book 2 in the ongoing Maiden Voyage series, Derek and Logan’s insecurities, history and unequivocal connection took hold from the very beginning and never let go. When tragedy strikes, it was all I could do to hold it together.
Derek Masters, thirty-four and the lead singer of Maiden Voyage, turned his life around. Once succumbing to a serious addiction, he is now a decade into his sobriety. He is done with the Grinder scene and wants more out of a personal relationship. I absolutely adore his relationship with his son, Colby, and his ex-wife, Lorraine. He isn’t perfect, but is an awesome father. However, he still has a serious addiction, wait for it… To everything Disney. Yep, this heavy metal rock star has a soft spot for Disney paraphernalia and movies. OMG… I love this guy.
Logan Bell is in his mid-twenties and is Colby’s homeroom and English teacher. His last teaching job exacerbated his mild depression when “Maryvale High School. David Ferguson age fourteen attacked teacher Logan Bell, holding him at knife point.” He now lives in a gated community teaching at a private school. To protect Colby’s father, he labels Derek’s phone contact as “Hot Daddy,” you know in case his phone is lost or stolen.
Derek and Logan’s insecurities, history and unequivocal connection took hold from the very beginning and never let go.
You guessed it! Derek’s Destiny is the rock star falling for the teacher. Is the “teach” ready to be thrust into the limelight that is Derek’s reality? For love he just might be.
In general, Derek’s Destiny is low angst, but there are some tense moments keeping you riveted to the pages. Combining with heartbreaking ones that truly sadden you as you wish Logan and Derek would get past the crux of most relationship failures and communicate. Both luckily and unluckily, Derek’s bandmate, Ryder’s intervention forces them to open their eyes to their failures while triggering a dire situation for Logan.
Okay, I have to admit something… In Ryder’s Guardian I wasn’t a fan of Derek’s. I found him standoffish and rude to Ryder and Max. Now that I see the driving force behind his façade, and recognize it for what it was, I love this man. His connection to Logan, and on his sleeve emotions, are so endearing that I want this man in my life. Yep, he is going to be one of my book crushes for a long time.
The friendship and support network these gent’s have is utterly amazing. From Derek’s bandmates, their bodyguards, and his ex-wife, to Logan’s best friend, Julia; they are loved, supported and called out on their shit. Derek’s bodyguard Regan hides a big softie under his burly exterior. All directed at Julia. Guess they can’t all be on my team. Although it isn’t easy being a public celebrity, these folks make it work and their “family” is astonishing.
The Maiden Voyage series is destined for great things and I can’t recommend it enough.
Now that Derek’s Destiny brought us Derek and Logan’s story, what’s up with the other bandmates? There is more to Jaxson and his neighbor as their supposed battle feels a little like foreplay. I personally can’t wait to read Jaxson’s Nemesis, book 3 in the series. And, what about Shadow? He deserves some loving too! That appears to be coming in Shadow’s Light, book 4. We need to be kept up to date with Ryder and Max as well, since there is a wedding in their future. Glimpses into Colby, as he continues to grow, would be awesome as well. The adorable kid is working through his own identity questions. But, with the family he has, no matter his discovery, he will be unanimously supported.
Waited a long time for this book and it was worth it. Though rock inspired, with Derek being the lead singer for Maiden Voyage, this story focused more on Derek and high school teacher, Logan's developing love story. I thought I liked Max and Ryder from book one of Maiden Voyage's, Ryder's Guardian. Yet, Derek's and Logan's story have given me a new favorite. Logan is oh, so sweet and Derek... OMG, who'd have thought he'd be so breathtaking?
The premise is that now that he was home from touring outside the US, Derek was looking forward to spending time with his son Colby. What he didn't realise was he'd meet Logan and tumble faster than he thought possible.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
It was an okay book. The first chapter was huge information load, then it kind of evened out, but there was still a lot of information, not necessarily a useful one. The second half was a lot of drama, which ended in HAE. I was a bit bored while reading it, the writing just didn't sync with me, but it wasn't a bad book.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
Book 2 of the Maiden Voyage series pulled me in immediately. I fell in love with Derek, the lead singer of this band almost from page one. He overcame a serious addiction and really turned his life around. Sober and clean for over a decade, he is a phenomenal father and does right by his son. I enjoyed the friendship he had forged with his ex-wife Lorraine. Their son Colby is a wonderful kid that adores his father. On parent night at his kid’s school, Derek gets to meet his son’s new teacher and he is instantly smitten. The scene where Derek first meets Logan is too darn adorable. Logan is new to this private upscale institution and left his old job when a student caused him physical harm. This is disclosed fairly early in the book and is important to the storyline as this has left a lasting effect on Logan. The poor English teacher feels like a bit of a failure and is trying hard to cope with all the new changes in his life. Derek surprises himself with how much he wants to pursue Logan. He wants more than a hookup and poor Logan is beyond confused when Derek tracks him down to ask him on a date. The two were a very realistic couple and I appreciated how they took the time to learn about each other. Logan has to adapt to dating a famous rock star. His life is now under close scrutiny and he hates being in the limelight. Derek is crazy about this gentle teacher but music is in his blood and he can’t walk away from all that he has built with his career. Miscommunications lead to a bit of angst as Logan pushes Derek away. Derek is crushed and has a difficult time coping. Supportive friends surround him and the family of musicians have his back, though. Add to all of this, is a life-threatening scene that keeps the readers on their toes. This was a flirty and musical romp that definitely had a strong spark between the men. I highly recommend and hope you have a great time touring with this band. Happy Reading! ***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn’t a requirement.***
A heart-warming, inspirational, emotional, family-centered story about finding love while simultaneously facing one’s demons, to ultimately be able to let go with the strength to finally truly live has just crossed my path. And, wow, it definitely should have been a wider path to say the least because..freight train.
Derek’s Destiny, by T.L. Travis, with it's exciting, adorable, humorous, and, emotional moments, is a story, that according to this reader, is a great one to read that despite moments of needed development, depth, and another round of editing, as there were many head-scratching needy moments as well, turned into one super great story.
WOAH...what just happened? Where did all of this salty wetness come from? Well, it must be another story from T.L. Travis. It all kind of comes out of nowhere, like a freight train. BAM! And then it leaves the reader in a bewildered state of reader-haze. While yes, it did take this reader a bit to get a hold of the entire plot, as there were a few ups and downs, like that proverbial freight train, once It was reached, I didn't want it to end.
Derek’s Destiny, by T.L. Travis, as a whole, is a great story with a great storyline, with wonderfully varied main characters; some of which I need to squeeze hug immediately, fantastic secondary characters; a few I need to crazy tickle, and an intriguing sub-plot, all of which had this bubbling musical undertone that I was anxious to immerse myself in as well.
I really liked this story, that despite really needing more, it all packs a punch in the end that collectively has this reader already looking forward to the rest of the Maiden Voyage series. I really liked it. :)
This book picks up shortly after Ryder’s Guardian ends. The show has to go on, ya know. We find out what was going through Derek’s mind during the events that led to Ryder getting hurt.
I like Derek more now that I’ve spent some time with him. He’s this hot lead vocalist, but he’s so much more than how he’s portrayed himself to be. He wants more in his life, and this book is him going for it. With everything he’s gone through, I felt like he deserved it. He’s such a great character, and he has a lot of depth.
Logan is absolutely adorable, and I can see how you would want to scoop him up and protect him. He’s so likable and sweet, yet he’s struggling with insecurities and fears that keep tripping him up and keeps him from moving forward sometimes. He’s fortunate to have a BFF like Julia, who will get in his face and let him have it, yet love on him when that’s the more appropriate support.
I loved Julia and Reagan’s characters and how much they played into the storyline. It created additional layers of our main characters and a broader understanding of them. Of course, we got to see the other two bands again, especially Stoli and Joey. It was nice to get to see Ryder and Max and learn updates to their relationship.
I loved Derek and Logan’s story. It had me grinning like a loon quite a bit. Especially their mutual love of Disney. That was an incredibly fun addition to the story. His bidding war with a certain star, we should all recognize, was awesome! I cannot wait to see what’s up next for these guys. I’m dying to read about the neighbor wars someone has going on. It’s bound to be epic!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
There were lots of things that I really enjoyed about this book; it was great to get a better insight into Derek's character and his relationship with his son Colby. Seeing that dynamic with the rest of the band too was one of my favourite parts and I wish there had been even more of that. As for Derek and Logan as a couple, I did think they had good chemistry, there were some very hot scenes and I did like them as individuals. Unfortunately, as they book progressed I did end up going off Logan somewhat. He was too caught up in his own problems with one foot out the door whenever the opportunity arose. It also sounds silly, but there was also a bit too much crying in the book for me. It seemed like every chapter or so, one of them (or a secondary character) ended up in tears for one reason or another. It made the few really poignant moments have less impact for me as they all seemed to cry at everything anyway.
Having said all this, I reiterate that I loved Derek as a character, love hearing about the different band members and am looking forward to hearing about Jaxson in the next book of the series... especially if it involves the feud with his neighbour. I have a feeling that sparks may fly! Overall, a good MM romance and a decent book 2 in the series. If you've read book 1, I would recommend also giving this one a try too.
Omg, I love Derek's Destiny. The second book in TL Travis' Maiden Voyage series, it is a little different from the author's other rocker books. This time, we get a fun look at the band when they aren't touring. All the guys are around, and we get plenty of band moments without the touring.
Not only does Derek have to deal with the feelings he had for Ryder, but everything changes as he meets Logan, his son's teacher. Yes, Derek, a rock star, falls for his son's teacher.
Their story is one of instant attraction and some hot sex. Their journey involves some danger and suspense, in addition to them navigating their way towards being a couple.
The writing style is wonderful, with a fluid pace and stellar dialogue. The characters all have an intriguing background, and the storyline is gripping. Written in alternating 1st person pov, the characters fully come alive, with their feelings and emotions front and center.
Most of the story is low angst, but there are some tough moments for sure, including some twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat.
Derek's Destiny is a great read. As much as I love TL's rock star adventures, it's fun that this story revolves around a rock star life when not on the road. I am looking forward to seeing more of these guys in the future.
Derek Masters is the lead singer of the Rock band Maiden Voyage. Logan Bell is Dereks's son Colby's English teacher.
They first meet at school Orientation, and sparks fly. Logan is nervous and very anxious because of something that happened at his last school, and Derek is working through demons of his own.
They become each other's rock, but find it hard to let go of their past fears. With the help of Derek"a bandmates: Rydet, Shadow, and Jaxson along with Logan's best friend Julia they are helped along the way to being there for each other.
The descriptions of the landscape and surrounding area makes it feel like you are in Arizona. The honest way that addiction is covered in the book is also refreshing. These characters have everyday issues that you might assume Rockstars and other famous people might not have, and they are handled honestly.
The two main characters find a way to come together and stay together, while dealing with the everyday problems that may arise from dating someone famous.
I look forward to finding out what happens between Jaxson and his neighbour and if Shadow finally falls in love. Hopefully, we also hear more about Derek's son Colby, as he grows up.
Highly recommended. Can be read as a standalone, but recommend the Maiden Voyage books are read in order so you know the story of each member of the band.

You also get some fun glimpses into the 3rd book in the series that brings you Jaxon’s story with his neighbor. Grab them both!
Awwwwww Derek! I've been waiting for Derek's story since he was first introduced in Social Sinners. I'm so bloody happy for him i could burst!
Loved Derek. So genuine and caring, there is nothing to dislike about him. He's perfect! And his relationship with his son is ahhhhmazing!
Logan is such a cutie. His insecurities slayed me and he burrowed his way into my heart.
The two of them together made me tear up in happiness. So freaking sweet! They had a hit and miss start and i was incredibly relieved when it all worked out. Like Julia i wanted to shake Logan, thankfully Ryder got him to listen and Derek made him realise his worth.
Loved everything about the story and it was great seeing Max and Ryder doing better than great! Not sure who's next but hoping it's Jaxson and his pain in the behind neighbour?? As for Shadow... i have no clue but can't wait to find out!!
Derek’s Destiny is the second book of the Maiden Voyage series. It is a really good rockstar MM romance book. You don’t need to read book one of the series first, but I would definitely recommend reading it.
This book follows Derek, the lead singer of the Maiden Voyage, a world-famous rock band. Derek has a moved past behind him. He was married and has a son, who he loves dearly. He still is friends with his ex-wife and her new husband. Derek comes home from a long tour to surprise his child in class and meets Logan, his kid's teacher. Logan is new at the private school after being threatened by a student with a knife. There is an instant attraction between them. But can they overcome the hurdles between them?
I really liked this book. The chemistry between the characters was amazing and they seemed real as a couple. There was some angst, but not too much. I adored the relationship between Derek and his son.
This is the second book in the series and as much as I liked the first I think this just tops it because once I started I couldn’t put it down. Again featuring all the members of the band Maiden Voyage, this book concentrates on Derek the lead vocalist and Logan, his son’s, teacher. Derek is wonderful, so genuine and caring and he has a great and healthy relationship with his son Colby and ex-wife Lorraine and Logan is a sweetie and also very genuine. They have an instant attraction and aided by Logan’s best friend Julia and Derek’s bodyguard Reagan, who develop their own attraction, they begin a relationship. Once again the band members show how they look out for each other and together are a big wonderful family. This was a lovely story with heat, misunderstandings, a little angst and a beautiful ending. I can’t wait for Jaxson’s story which is up next and promises to be full of hijinks. I was given an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.
Travis pens another great Maiden Voyage book, in Derek's Destiny. I have read many stories from this author before, and I really enjoyed all of them. I find it's not your typical MM romance, and that's what makes this story work. Maiden Voyage is the bank, and now it's Derek (the lead singer) to find something, something he was almost too busy to look for. I like Derek, very sexy and interesting character, with more than just one layer. A hot and steamy story, but that's how Travis writes them, and they work. It's more than just fate with Derek, and that's all I can say. This author is not just a writer but a great storyteller. A grand MM romance/love/steamy story. As always, I look forward to reading many more stories by this author, and I recommend reading the entire series, and related series. Derek’s Destiny is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.
I read the series from the newest to the oldest which isn‘t the best but still workable.
Before this series I tried not to read books with rockstars, but I have to say TL Travis has this gift to write and describe the scenery so great, that I had to read now the total series after I was fallen over the third Book.
This book is about Derek and Logan, both mentally injured, now coming together. You‘ll find in this books a Rockband, which isn‘t only a band but also a family. The interaction between all characters is with so much different kind of emotions, you can feel with them as TL Travis has this writing to put you directly in the story.
I‘m really looking forward to the fourth book in the series to meet all the character's again.
I can really recommend this book, have fun while reading.
This is the second book in the Maiden Voyage series.
Logan and Derek meet when Derek attends his sons school orientation and there is an instant attraction to each other.
We see bits and pieces of them spending time together and left to imagine their time together off page. I would have liked to see the relationship develop on page with dates and getting to know each other etx.
Both guys have a a history involving depression, anxiety, drug use etx which do factor into the story. I wanted more. I also wanted more with Dereks son Colby.
This book was a good read, great characters, great supporting cast, and TL has written greats band mates which make you look forward to the next book.
4.5 stars. An okay start to this but it gets better after the first 10%.. Maiden Voyage was on the way home after the final show for a break before going to Nevada. I loved the first meeting between them, Logan was speechless, I loved that scene. They fast feel a connection and things progress from there. A beautiful story and the telling of the complations with being a popular band. A few tense moments as things fall apart at a wrong timing with them both. okay yah I do love the drama scenes which leads to a great ending.
Derek knew all about unrequited love as hed loved Ryder his band mate but he was taken well and good. He has his dark moments with drugs but now hes back on track with another concert. Logan was an english teacher and had the pleasure of teaching Colby, Dereks son.
Rock stars, insta-attraction, angst, tragedy… what an addicting and enticing mix for book 2!
Both Derek and Logan have deep insecurities, troublesome pasts, and unresolved issues that repeatedly knock them down and create some almost insurmountable obstacles to their relationship. Thankfully the story has plenty of lighter elements to split up the heavy, otherwise the book would be too dark, but the mix of light and heavy is well done and the author keeps the story moving at a great pace.
Maybe Logan’s insecurities were a bit overdone, and maybe the final tragedy was a bit melodramatic, but the book was a great read – entertaining, well-written, with awesome characters and storyline.
This was such a great rockstar read. Interestingly enough Logan had more issues to overcome in my opinion than Derek did and Derek is the one in a band. Derek is such a sweet man and a great dad and he has overcome a lot of his mistakes. The world building is done very well and I liked how you get bits and pieces of the whole band and especially Ryder from the previous book. There are definitely times when I just wanted to shake Logan but I can understand his thought process. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series about Jaxson and his neighbor!
School teacher Logan meets Rock star Derek at parent teacher night for Derek's 13 yr old son, Colby.
I really liked the way they meet and that Logan is a totally normal guy..
I enjoyed watching them get to know each other. Both Derek's and Logan are great guys although they both have their own issues.
Can Logan deal with everything that come with being the boyfriend of a famous rock star? How will Derek's son react to his dad dating his teacher? Will their differences be to much to survive?
A sweet, hot, romantic rockstar romance I'd happily recommend.
Always such a pleasure to meet each character in the series and see what they are becoming, Derek's story is so sweet. He's a genuine nice guy that has overcame his struggles with success and the demons he succumbed to. Meeting Logan was exactly what he was seeking without really knowing. The dynamics of the relationship between the guys was realistic with enough angst to satisfying the overall storyline. The series definitely should be read in order starting, I received a free ARC from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion
I seriously loved Ryder’s Guardian and didn’t have a lot of love for Derek in that book. But now I completely understand what made him tick and I love him so much for it! Derek has an amazing “family” and network of friends. Logan is Derek’s son Colby’s homeroom teacher. He has horrible insecurities due to an incident at the last school he taught at. I love how instantly smitten Derek is with Logan. I seriously loved this story, it’s really well written, simply fantastic! I’m voluntarily reviewing for an advanced copy that I received.
This is a GREAT book. Derek who I felt was redeemed in this story turned out to be a great guy. Logan is a wonderful guy who didn't even know who Derek was. Logan and Derek is a MAGNIFICENTLY written story about how love can lead you to things you never dreamed possible. I love the way TL TRAVIS writes with so much heart. I can't wait to see what's next for MAIDEN VOYAGE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS INCREDIBLE SERIES!!!!!!
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review. Derek and Logan seems so perfect together. I adored Derek protectiveness toward his kid and Logan is so cute. The hot scenes were written very well, but I'd like to see Logan top. I also would have loved see more of Derek and Colby relationship. All the hint about Jaxson and his neighbour makes me want to read the next one.

Wow... What a great book! I read it in one sitting. Logan & Derek were great and I loved them both. The Teacher ( D’sSon’s homeroom & English teacher)& A Lead Singer in a Rock Band, wow right? They had there ups and downs, I cried a few times. The book was good though-out, I was enjoying it, then “Bam” an omg moment and tears, yikes. A Fantastic read.
This is the second book in the series. This book features Derek and Logan they both have insecurities but with the help of friends they help to overcome. Love how they are able to finally connect. This series is best read in order as it features characters from previous books.
I loved Derek and Logan's story, especially because Logan is a teacher and had no clue as to who Derek is. Thst means Derek can be sure Logan cares about him, not his fame. It was also lovely that these two who are so much about caring for everyone else, finally get to have it all and find someone they cal allow to take care of them.
MM Rockstar romance, needs to be read in series order for maximum enjoyment and full understanding as follows on from previous book. Easy to read and a page-turner, angst and mental health as well as previous drug use in story. Ending left undone, I fully expect to read more about Derek and Logan in the next book.
Derek and Logan were so different that initially I couldn't see how this was going to work out but I loved that Derek was a good guy wanting to care for everyone. The initial meeting was perfectly played and the spark needed to be nurtured until the weather event that brings everything to a head. Love these books so much that I went and reread Book 1 Ryder's Guardian
I loved this book. Derek Masters is the lead vocalist for Maiden Voyage. Back from a European tour. He is finally home to rest. He meets Logan at his sons school during orientation. A past trauma leaves Logan with anxiety. When Logan misunderstands what he overhears Derek saying to Ryder it sends him running. Can Derek and Logan find love together or will tragedy take it away?
