Weddings in the City #2

Wedding Bells and Wall Street Bros

Rate this book
Is the bridal lingerie embroidered with dildos too much? It might be too much…

Welcome to life as a wedding dress-maker for the rich and entitled of Manhattan. I’ve seen it all—from the most spoiled brides to the most egotistical Wall Street Bros.

The worst?

Mark Holbrook—Billionaire. Arrogant. Knockout sexy. Certifiable jerk.

He hates weddings and I hate him.

But now his cousin is marrying my best friend.

He’s the best man with a bad attitude and I am the maid of honor who still lives in her childhood bedroom packed floor to ceiling in sewing supplies—complete with two gay dads and a family of rescue Roombas—who has never had a serious relationship and who is living her dream wedding vicariously through her best friend.

Pathetic? Abso-freakin’-lutely.

But I’m not so downtrodden that I let Mark get away with talking smack about weddings.

Nope!

I flashed him. And dumped coffee all over him. That’ll learn him!

And hopefully send him running.

I don’t need Mark and his wedding negativity in my life.

I also don’t need to sleep with him after a stressful wedding planning session, nor do I need to sleep with him after the cake testing.

And I definitely don’t need to fall in love!

This standalone, full length romantic comedy has no cliffhangers but does have a swoon-worth HEA! This book is STEAMY! The highs are hilarious and the lows are as deep as the voice of the guy you want in your bed!

Just like the previous book, Weddibg Bells and Wall Street Bros is funny. It is quite long. At the end I found this book lacking of plot.
There is plot but not strong/ interesting enough to maintain my interest.

I feel the plot and drama is being added just to make the book longer. I do like drama on ny romance but the drama/ plot needs to be interesting.

Overall this is OK read.

This book is over the top and then some; with all the flair and shenanigans of a Mel Brooks movie. This story has all the hallmarks I’ve come to associate with this author’s work. There’s twisty family drama, plenty of angst and steam, and it’s all wrapped up with a bow of pure goofiness. While I would guess that this book could stand on its own, you’d be missing a lot of context by not having read at least the Holbrook Cousins books before it. Though, the Frost and Svensson books would be a good idea too, just to attempt to get a handle on all the wide and varied supporting cast. My heart has held a soft spot for Mark from the very first moment I read about him and I’ve been dying to see what his happy ever after would look like. I was not expecting it to look anything like Brea, but when all’s said and done, she’s absolutely the perfect fit. I have no idea what the author is going to bring us next, but I can’t wait to read it, whatever it is.

I always try

Give the writer the benefit of doubt, keep reading, it may get better.
But this is so…ridiculous.
Only as I closed it out, did I realize I had also attempted to read the other book in this this series, with pretty much the exact same experience….this is just too silly.
People this immature, and goofy, should not be attempting to date. And certainly not to marry, or reproduce. They are not ready. Not by a long shot. They are more like people who need to go back to middle school, and try the growing up thing again.
For me, this was silly, and a waste of time.

I'm so glad that Mark finally gets the happily ever after that he deserves. It was a heartbreaking to see how cynical he was at the beginning of this. He has been through so much crap that when the third act break up was on its way I had to put the book down because I did not want to see him go through anything else.
Alina Jacobs has a gift for making the most conniving vomit inducing women but on the other side of the coin making the most wholesome women that you just want to lay the world at their feet. And that's not even mentioning the men that she makes you hate and love and want to sleep with all in the same breath. There are not very many authors who can make me feel such visceral reactions to fictional people.
I only have one critique and that is that the change between Mark finding Brea the worst to wanting to be with her was very sudden and it kind of felt like there may have been something missing in between initial reaction to growing feelings. Other than that this book is yet another beautiful piece of art written by a phenomenal human being.

It is always fun to step back into the world and characters Alina Jacobs has created. Her romantic comedies are original and entertaining and I love that the stories and characters are interconnected.

Brea's career is all about weddings and her best friend is getting married to Mark's cousin. Mark does not like weddings but is the best man. What starts as animosity quickly morphs to something more.

This enemies to lovers story is full of laughs, great secondary characters, and romance. It can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend picking up the other series so you get to know all these characters.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Fun, funny, and f-romantic!!

Wedding Bells and Wall Street Bros, book 2 in Alina Jacobs' Weddings in the City series about a six-woman wedding collaborative and their clients, features wedding gown designer and dressmaker Brea, maid of honor at her best friend Liz's wedding, and Mark Holbrook, brother of the groom, billionaire, and hot "Wall Street Bro" (as Brea calls them), who made his money in technology and is part of a wealthy Connecticut family. Brea lives in her childhood bedroom with her two gay fathers, whose passions include antiquing and rescuing abandoned Roombas, which are more common than expected. Her "hovel", as her gold-digging fraternal twin sister, Memphis Eve (yes, it's her real name) calls it, is small and packed full of estate-sale finds. Not an equal match on paper! In fact, they hate each other at first sight! But sparks fly between them when Brea kisses Mark after seeing Memphis Eve pawing at him during a charity event...

Liz is not a bridezilla, but she's paralyzed by indecision after Wes tells her to pick what she wants. She's also eight months pregnant, due right after the wedding date, and very hormonal and craving strange foods. So Liz agrees to all of Mark's nutty suggestions, Brea finds herself promising to make three dresses, and Elsie the caterer has to put up with the installation of a s'mores station, a hot dog station, and--the ultimate insult--a nacho station in the back yard of Holbrook Estate (yet another real name!).

Brea powers through the few weeks before the wedding (Liz wants to be married before the baby comes), fueled by coffee and alcohol and stolen moments with Mark, who is contemplating whether it's too soon for him to propose to Brea. Then trouble begins to brew in paradise, in the form of Brea's mother, Stella Rose . (That is her real name!) Refusing to believe that someone as "short and dumpy" as Brea is her sister, Memphis Eve demands the truth from her mom, who tells them that their father is Jack Holbrook... Mark's dad. Horrified by the prospect of being jailed for incest, Mark breaks up with Brea and she retreats into sewing and drinking. It appears that all is lost. But wait, there's more!

Brea's fathers reveal that they had paternity tests done when she was a child, and one of them is her biological father. Memphis Eve, however, is the daughter of Jack Holbrook's ne'er-do-well brother, making Mark and Brea unrelated and able to marry without legal consequences. (For Brea, the best result of that genetic anomaly is that Memphis Eve has no chance whatsoever of getting her hands on Mark's money!) The scene during which Memphis Eve and her mom confront Jack Holbrook is cringeworthy and hilarious, and Jack not only is exonerated of being unfaithful to his wife but also realizes that his brother stole his credit card to pay for his trysts with Stella Rose. Uncle Walter had it coming to him!

I like the character development Alina Jacobs performs with Brea (a minor character in book 1) and Mark (a minor character in her Svensson Brothers series), bringing them into focus for their own story. I wouldn't mind meeting them, though I'd caution her to stop her unhealthy food-and-drink "self care", and I'd warn him to vet more carefully the women who pursue him, since his previous girlfriend literally bombed the family's home and sent several of Mark's brothers and cousins to the hospital. Mark's physical wounds were not serious, but his psychological wounds lasted, and he thinks he can no longer attract the right kind of woman. The one he wants now appears to be his half-sister, for goodness sake!

One caution: Wedding Bells and Wall Street Bros, like other Alina Jacobs novels, contains significant amounts of profanity and some explicit sex scenes. In 21st century New York, not every couple's happily ever after involves wedding bells (that part of the title refers to Brea's position at Weddings in the City), and I didn't see anything about a proposal, just a hint that they've moved in together into Mark's penthouse. If you're OK reading that kind of book, this is a wonderful choice. If it's not your preference but you can put on your filter, it's a fun read. And if you like your characters with a splash of humor and humiliation, this is the book for you!

Billionaire, enemies to lovers, crazy family, spicy rom com.

Mark!!!!!! Finally he gets a HEA. I have been waiting!!!!

I love this type of book. No angst, comedy, hot billionaires with hot spice thrown in. Nice and light. Is it for everyone? No. But it is my cup of hot chocolate. I don't want to be sad or anxious with the books I read.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. However I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. But don’t let that deter you. This can be a stand-alone. But it will make you want to read all the other books!

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

With the blurb I suppose my expectations of something fun and light was a bit high. Unfortunately I am not a fan of constant bickering and angst. I lost interest as soon as I started reading. I put the story down so many times and every time I thought maybe it gets better it was just more of the same over the top reality TV drama that I barely made it through.

Brea had her moments where she didn’t come across like a total ditzy airhead. Mark did eventually sort of redeem himself from the arrogant jerk from the beginning of the book, but how the story was written for me felt like an overtly animated party where everyone felt like they had to be over the top to be invited, very tiring, loud and confusing.

4.5 stars!!

As the wedding dress designer/dress-maker extraordinaire for the Weddings In The City group, Brea and her friends are used to dealing with annoying clients, especially rich, arrogant entitled men. She finds those qualities present in one person particular, Mark Holbrook. Their first meeting is not friendly to say the least and only gets worse as Brea finds out that her best friend and Mark’s cousin are getting married. Even more, guess who gets to be the maid of honor and best man? As Mark and Brea are left to work with each other for the wedding, they learn there might be something more simmering beneath all that dislike.

Oh Brea and Mark! What an adorably sweet and funny couple. Even if they are not a fan of each other at first, the way they end up falling in love is heartwarming. In addition, their physical chemistry rivals, if not out does, the sexy romance audio books Brea loves to listen to. I will admit, Mark and Brea did annoy me one or two times, but only because they couldn’t see how cute they would be together! However, it worked out because it gave them some character development as they worked past their personal hurdles to be with each other and that made it even sweeter. As it was in the last book of this series, the Weddings in the City crew and friends are there to have Brea’s back. They continue to support each other and lift each other up in words and in humor…and boy is there humor. I just know any scene that has all of the ladies conversing will be hilarious in one way or another and I absolutely am LOL-ing each time. This book is adorable and has the laughs and the fuzzy romantic feels needed for any feel-good book. Loved this book overall and cannot wait to see which Weddings in the City team member is up next for their love story.

Brea is designing her friend Liz's dress while her friends from City Weddings due the rest there are two complications the bride has and expanding waistline due to the bun in the oven and the grooms cousin Mark mister I hate weddings. From the moment these two meet you get the I hate you but I'll still flash you to make a point war over wedding planing a very loud audio book ahem lol moment to both there crazy families I couldn't put it domn.

Brea can't stand Mr. Wallstreet until her phsyco sister shows up in town looking for a new sugar daddy and well its just one kiss it can't go anywhere try telling Mark that he can't get enough of the sugar hyped caffeine downing wedding dress designer. And that crazy sister and her momma well talk about a cring worthy think goodness Brea has her eccentric two dads with a rumba obsession.

Mark has horrible tast in women one tried to blow up his family Brea's a little cooky but she's hot and he can't get enough of her her dad's are alright and everything is great until the secrets and her family may just be more messed up then mine.

Okay this is helerious the birth thing at the end was just a little farfetched especially if your someone who has experienced it but it did make for a funny moment. Mark is a little uptight and judgy but he has his reasons and he really did redeem himself at the end. And wow Brea if I had that much sugar I'd be in the hospital wow but she's just quirky enough to keep things interesting and my favorite character's were definitely grandpa and his girlfriend. This series is definitely worth the read now I need to read about the Frost's and Svensson's

Charming romance. This is not my first novel by Alina and this one certainly didn't disappoint. The storyline grabbed me right from the start, all the way to the end. As always, her character development and descriptions are spot-on, as is her scene-appropriate language and impeccable editorial competence. The story of Mark and Brea is a charming one, both members of the group, that appeared before in other titles in this series. Some elements of this book gave me a hint of deja vu to Bridezillas and Billionaires, as this novel is also about wedding planners and brides. Above all though, the book, however, is a heartwarming and steamy tale of two people who go from enemies-to-lovers and I particularly enjoyed the warm feelings members of the family and friends had for their dogs and each other, in spite of their bantering. The tension-points in the book were well spaced and the content gave a well-rounded storyline. Liz's wedding to Wes has it's fair share of hilarity, stress and a near birthing experience which Brea as the Maid of Honour and wedding dressmaker extraordinaire expertly handles time and time again. Being in love with a billionaire isn't something that sits well with Brea who feels the social separation between her and Mark intensely. That causes its fair share of problems along with insecurities both protagonists sport. However, love wins in the end and there is a lovely HEA.
I would have no hesitation what-so-ever in recommending this charming novel to all romance lovers.

Just as the first book, there were several comical moments. Unlike the first book there was some what of a tragic/dark cloud however it was not the main focus point, I didn't have to read through pages of dialogue examining the characters thoughts and revelations and I appreciated that.

Sexy billionaire Mark is the last single Holbrook (apparently they have their own series that I must now immediately add to my read list), he is a workaholic with a chip on his shoulder, he is very sarcastic and a bit judgy.

Brea is a creative spitfire with two dads and a gold digger mom and sister. The dads were adorable but the females were basic cookie cutter lame bad girls. And they weren't even that good, I've read better villain just saying.

It's a solid story. The most memorable moments for me came from minor characters. If this had been the first book in the series I can't say that I would have felt compelled to keep reading. All of the books in this series are designed to be stand alones. I could see this being a fun FX Saturday afternoon movie.

** This is the second book where toys were introduced. I don't usually see that in romance novels at least not the ones I read so yeah, I'm picking up with Alina is putting down.

Though the book is unnecessarily super lengthy, i liked the plot. Hence the 3 stars.
I wouldn't have mind if it was a few chapter less because we didn't need to know every bit of the wedding planning. And the birthing scene could be the most bizarre scene i have ever read, i never knew any new mother could risk her just born child's life like Liz did just because she could enjoy the reception food and wedding cake.

I ignored lots of pages because they were irrelevant and just making the book lengthy but i couldn't ignore the way Mark treated Brea when he walked away from her. "You are dead to me" this one line was the mood killer for because i don't see any point in groveling for that person. Sometimes the authors should give their female leads some backbone and self respect, not make them the doormats. Even after hearing Mark saying those words to her, Brea tries to apologize to him !!! Could this character be anymore pathetic????

I would say the author needs to find a better way to bring wedges between the leads because everytime the reasonings are beyond silly and the reconciliation is way too dumb because the heroines don't let the heros grovel or redeem themselves.

I want to start my review by saying I love this series for its humor and fun dynamics. The story is a little cheesy but I loved it nonetheless.

With that said, I gave it four stars because I just didn't get Brea. Her intentions were clear but her reasons to why she couldnt date Mark was pretty flimsy and changed a lot. It went from a placeholder relationship to keep her gold digger sister from sinking her claws into Mark, to her family is too crazy for him to oh woe is me, how could Mark love someone as pathetic as i?!? I get that its okay to have more than one reason to have doubts but these things seemed like such a non issue to him. He didn't like the evil twin and believed her when she told him about why she kissed him at the fundraiser. He has a crazy family too and they can be quite a handful as well. As for the pathetic part, yeah Brea could be at times but he mostly found it enduring. See, no problem! He totally gets you girl! Maybe all this goes to show Brea is just a chronic overthinker and that it ruins her enjoyment of things she deserves. Regardless, it was a messssssy situation and she was right to be so stressed.

Brea makes custom wedding dresses for the rich and entitled of Manhattan. She loves weddings, but not everyone feels the same. Mark Holbrook, a sexy arrogant billionaire hates weddings. But with his cousin Wes marrying Brea’s best friend Liz, he and Brea will be clashing head-on. Mark is the best man with lots of bad attitude. Brea is the maid of honor who sees this as a way of living her dream wedding vicariously through her best friend. Having to work together on this wedding will definitely not go smoothly! And yet somehow, the two of them manage to pull together the start of a relationship!

This book is full of laughter and fun with good characters who bring the story alive with their crazy banter. The family dynamics are wonderful as well – you just can’t lose with this one. Grab your copy and try not to laugh – bet you can’t do it!

Alina Jacobs writes heroines I want to be best friends with and book boyfriends to dream about!!

As I've come to expect from Alina Jacobs, Wedding Bells and Wall StreetBros is another fab read full of heart, snort-worthy banter, feels, & swoony romance. This book is GOOD. As in, I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading it, and I cannot count how many times I laughed. I absolutely love Mark and Brea. They were just absolutely perfect for each other. Mark and Brea are dynamite together. The banter and camaraderie between Mark and Brea were adorable. OMG I Love Mark and Brea!! Alina Jacobs writes heroines I want to be best friends with and book boyfriends to dream about. I just couldn't get enough of this book. Can’t wait to read more books in this series and from this author. Happy reading everyone!

This was a great book, I love the romance part but I especially loved the comedy, there were so many moments where I could not stop laughing. Brea is hilarious, her parents are hilarious, and all I can say is crazy Roomba. I like Mark, I feel sorry for him, how his heart was broken, how he holds on to such guilt. I love the banter between him and Brea and the sex scenes were smokin hot. Brea’s mother and sister are nasty, manipulative people. I really enjoyed reading about Ivy again and all the other characters that made up the Weddings in the City. I got to meet some of the other characters from her other books that I did not know to read before I read these ones but I think I’ll still be able to read them and enjoy them. I’m hoping that the author writes books about the other ladies from Weddings in the City

I read this book after seeing it posted on social media. To be honest, I was still kinda leery of it. I've never heard of the author before, but I thought the blurb drew me in, and so I had to give it a shot.

I will start with saying that I haven't read book 1 in the series, and I had NO problems whatsoever with jumping into this book.

I can say this now after having read it, I'm so glad that I did! I couldn't stop laughing. I just LOVED the story, the characters, everything about it. I just couldn't put it down once I started it. I had to find out what shenanigans were going to happen next. It was that amazing.

And seriously? I can NOT wait to read the next book in the series!!! It can't come quick enough!

I wanted to read Mark’s book after meeting him in Eating Her Christmas Cookies, but when I did find his book, I didn’t immediately read it because I thought I should read Evan and Ivy’s story since their book comes first. I started Wedding Bells & Wall Street Bros once I finished Bridezillas & Billionaires and it was a hoot! There was facepalm, gasp and smile, shake your head, craziness once again and I’m here for it. I love all the humor, hijinks, steam, and low angst Alina Jacobs always delivers and I’m going to be a fan for a long time. Wedding Bells & Wall Street Bros was excellent fun and I can’t wait to read more from this series!

Fluff

XXX! Adult content, reader discretion advised. Mark was anti fluff. Brea was all about the fluff. The two came to verbal blows over the cost of fluff. Considering fluff was Brea’s bread and butter she had strong feelings about fluff. There is nothing wrong with fluff. There is nothing wrong with expensive fluff, especially well made and hand made fluff. Value is assigned by the person purchasing. A rock can be worth nothing or can be worth millions. Just depends on the value someone is willing to pay. Mark soon learns how valuable fluff is and when the fluff goes away? He loses his mind. Weddings and babies and crazy family members round this out for a humorous tale.

How magical the author makes falling in love sound. Like soft wind chimes and magical fairy dust. I call phewy! More like a brush of a sandstorm that gets in your eyes. It's irritating, painful and you want it to stop.
Then you learn about infidelity, lies, cruelty and the abuse one person can leive on on another. Pain is pain even dressed in the name of love.
Brea who's life had always been complicated by her vagabond mother and her two dads meets the traditional billionaire Mark Holbrook. His life has been complicated by fortune hunters and brothers trying to be too helpful.

it’s sweet with low anxiety but lots of communication flaws

Mark is my favorite Holbrook from other books he’s appeared in. He’s intelligent , honest and naive with women. He’s been traumatized by a manipulative women. His relationship with Brea is adorable. She is her quirky protective sweet self and that can be a problem. All the Holbrook appear and some Svensson and of course Ida from Harragate. It’s like reading a soap opera with lots of levity that continues on. I’m addicted to the world.

This book is so very, very funny. Brea is the wedding dress maker and she is making the wedding dress for Liz who is marrying Wes Holbrook. Brea meets Mark and spills coffee all over him. This is the start of their extreme dislike of each other. Or is it something else? A beautiful wedding dress maker. Another gorgeous Holbrook man. Sniping. Lots of sniping. Hmmmmm. Romance perhaps? Love. Absolutely loved it from start to finish. This author sure can do no wrong. Bring on the next one.

This story has plenty of feels and I totally loved it! It was entertaining and enjoyable. I laughed so much that my cheeks hurt! The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Memphis Eve and Stella Rose needed something to happen to show them what kind of people they are, but we didn't get to see that which was a bit disappointing for me. I really loved Brea and Mark. They were so good at pushing each other's buttons and riling each other up that it was fun to see how that translated into a relationship. Their friends and family were absolutely wonderful even when I wanted to smack them over some of the things they said. Brea also made me want to smack her a few times especially when she practically gave Mark whiplash several times. I would totally keep Mark as my new book boyfriend. He felt like a jerk at first but really turned into a sweetie that deserved to be happy. The way the story ended was great although I do wish there was an epilogue further out so you really got the effect of the happy ever after. I definitely recommend reading this book!

She loves weddings, he hates them. A chance meeting between the two and words exchanged lead to an all out war, with him ending bathed in coffee! But who cares? As if they're going to meet again! The joke's on them! Fate had other plans for them, and bring them together once again, for what else? A wedding!!!

As always, Alina Jacobs delivers a laugh out loud romantic comedy, with lots of heart, steam and outrageous shenaningans! If you're in need of a good laugh, don't miss this story!

Wonderful!

Have read the first 3 books and like this one the best! Mark and Brea both have problems but are not complete idiots! Bad families are still involved but not completely as decent friends help both Mark and Brea overcome their irrational behavior! Both suffer insecurity and have an inability to trust and confide in their love interest! Most unusual wedding ever tops the ending!

I liked Brea, but the Holbrooks have always been a tough sell for me. Mark is way too uptight and Wes and Liz suck. Carter’s only saving grace is that somehow Allie loves him and she’s barely present. Kate and Grant are fine in small doses. Why couldn’t Brea go for a Svensson brother? Ugh. Not Wilder obviously, but maybe Carl or one of the other ones that is still single but has his shit together.

I love the world that Alina Jacobs has created. This world is not for everyone, but if you like smart writing, laughing, crying, solving a mysteries, reading steamy bits and having a good time reading, then you don't want to miss this new series. The story of Brea and Mark continues to build the crazy and out of control world where love is conquering head strong men or women and the antics that ensue. Mark and Brea go from enemies to lovers while they are forced to work together as maid of honor and best man in a wedding. Mark is jaded by love and marriage and Brea's life is love and marriage. Throw in the crazy twin and kooky dads, all the other family members and you have a wonderful story. If you haven't read other stories in this world I would suggest the holiday romance as a great place to start.

Ms. Jacobs writes such wonderfully funny and entertaining stories, I know I am in for a treat when I pick up one of her books. This is an enemies to lovers story that will have you laughing out loud. All the characters were wonderful, with realistic and relatable qualities. Mark and Brea were adorable and it was fun to watch them navigate their way from enemies to lovers. This was an entertaining story with a lot of fun moments and I very much enjoyed it. A really well-written romantic comedy and I can't wait for Ms. Jacobs' next book!

Brea and Mark

Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️
Trope: billionaire, jerk to lovers, anti-wedding, cinnamon roll mmc, wedding
Tension: 2/5 a little angst when brea’s twin comes into the picture. Alina writes unlikeable characters well so you feel angsty to what Breas plan is. Mark is a cinnamon roll, so sweet and desperate to be loved.
Pro: dual pov, hea, nice world building, easy read
