“What CW Allen has done in this book is open himself up in a way that reminds us all of our need. . . .recognize the myriad of relational experiences that have been a catalyst in our lives, yet, with equal measure to hold ourselves accountable for how we can be a catalyst for change for our children, communities, cities, countries, and entire culture” (from the foreword).
Imagine God interjecting a great catalyst into our lives that makes us the people He created us to be. God doesn’t allow us to be acquainted with true purpose apart from uncomfortable seasoning. And this is exactly what has happened in CW’s life.
“CW is a man after God’s heart. In Catalyst CW is real about his pain and the challenges of faith. He is the type of man, leader, and artist that awakens a renewed faith in Christ. CW is just as smooth with the pen as he is behind the mic. Catalyst is his fluid journey, from growing up with his mom who took him with her to buy drugs to his awaking from just knowing about God to truly knowing God. In these pages you will enter the uncut journey of a man impacted by a real God that overdoes it in this kid from Cleveland.” (Pastor Phil Jackson Founder of The Fire House Community Arts Center, Pastor of The House Covenant Church.)
Excellent read. Personal, moving, powerful. A book from the heart from a friend who is a good man. Maybe even better because I knew the author? But you may like it as well even if you don't know C.W. A moving story, easy read, kept me interested the whole way. Great life lessons that you caan learn from.
This book is raw, honest, compelling and overall excellent.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet the author. In spring 2019 the students I work with took their annual spring break trip to Chicago. Most years we do a service trip, finding a place to work which usually means rebuilding houses after a natural disaster. But the last many years we have gotten into a routine where every other year we make it more of a learning experience, visiting cities and experiencing urban ministries. I had discovered Bridgebuilders years ago and was excited for my students to live with and learn from them on the south side of Chicago.
On this trip, I got to meet CW. After the trip we attempted to book him for a fall retreat. But it was 2020 and that fall retreat was cancelled. He still did some teaching for our students in an online format.
CW is a great teacher as well as a fantastic performer. I was excited to see he had published this book. In it, he shares stories from his life that shaped him and made him the man he is today. He shares struggles and challenges, including dealing with lust and racism.
Overall, this book is inspiring and challenging and worth your time.
Very moving about his deep feelings growing up in Cleveland and moving hereto Chicago. He is deeply devoted to helping others understand God and his music and wish him much success in his future
CW Allen’s Catalyst is first and foremost a story well told. The narrative format interspersed with relevant lyrics from his same titled album is both creative and engaging. I especially appreciated Allen’s ability to be deeply transparent while also being so faithful to interpret his life through the lenses of faith and scripture. If you’re looking to hear the journey of a man growing in God’s love - with all its ups and downs - I highly recommend this.
