Working at Piriguini’s Circus keeps her hidden in plain sight, but when a vicious accident exposes the truth of what she is, her safe game of hiding comes to an end. Taken by the emperor’s soldiers, Shula is forced into the hands of a mysterious Brotherhood, a group of humans hell-bent on eradicating her race completely.
The Fae Resistance needs her. Their healer hates her. And the Emperor of Illyk will stop at nothing to possess her. The secrets of the empire run deeper than she knows, and Shula will have to rely on the magic she’s suppressed for years to save herself from the emperor’s malicious plans.
Because Shula is an Elemental.
And her fire might be the only thing that can make or break their world.

This story is written so well with such beautiful and vivid descriptions. It’s not hard to imagine yourself in the MCs mind. It also follows multiple characters perspectives which I always adore! From the start I had mixed feelings about Shula especially when we learnt more about her background the reasons why she had to act the way she did. However, I believe it only made her stronger and it pushed her character development. I adored the start of the book where she was working in the circus and trying to stay hidden. This is one of the fewer books I’ve read were Fae are the outcasts and the hunter instead of being the Hunter. One of her so called friends I had a bad feeling about.
Loved the bond we had with the other characters in this book. One of which becomes very essential to the story and to Shula’s life. Shula is an elemental and her power is Fire. We never really learn by the Emperor wants her captured and brought to him. I have to say a big part of the reason why I enjoyed this book was the characters. The band of Fae that come to protect her and eventually becomes friends with her. They all challenge her beliefs and make her want to be a better person. They all have their own demons and pain in their past. It’s a hard life for the Fae in this world. They are constantly hunted and can never enjoy a moments of peace. Each of the other characters I believe could have their own book and I would 100% be down to read that.
The ending of this left so many mysteries to be discovered in book 2 and onwards. I’m very excited to see the adventures we have next.
SPOLIERS!! . . . I did not root for Ryker. I don’t even like him. I absolutely hated how he got to rain down his prejudice and trauma on Shula and then have it all washed away by a mate bond. He did nothing to deserve her, he gave her the bare minimum, and was rewarded because of Shula’s deeply rooted insecurities. So I am not here at all for the romance but I loved this story and the magic, and the world building. I’m really excited for the next book. I love a story about powerful women and sisterhood. I just really hope the next guy is better! And the next girl honestly.
I usually do not read a book if the whole series is not out yet, but I saw an artwork of Ryker and Shula and couldn't resist. Reading the blurb sealed it for me.
Shula Azarrh is a Fae that has hidden her identity quite well for the past twelve years in a world filled with humans with intense hatred for the Fae line, she has carved a place for herself at the Piriguini circus as the "Fire dancer". Unbeknownst to her, she has a great prophecy to fulfil to lead the Fae race to freedom, a journey that would lead her on a path of self discovery and acceptance and also meeting the handsome scarred brute Ryker Valad with she shares equal part hatred and desire.
I love love this book, it's been a while since I lost myself in the Fae fantasy world, it felt refreshing to experience it again through a commendable writer like AAC. A delightful read, I recommend for all Fae fanatics.
I had some real problems with the romance in this book. It felt way too abusive to me. I didn’t feel there was strong enough justification for the man to be so cruel, and I didn’t see enough reason for the woman to find him so irresistible 😔
I also wasn’t a huge fan of the implied comparison of the fae’s struggles to the Holocaust. And the main protagonist was shamed so much for doing what she had to to survive - even when none of her actions affected anybody around her but herself.
I wanted to DNF but I kept waiting to see why the woman was treated so badly by basically everyone in this book, and it mainly seemed to be to bully her into wanting to fight with the rebels. Wasn’t enough for me, personally, but others could have a very different reading experience than me. If you pick this one up I do hope you like it!

If you guys like reaaaally slow burn, mates who actually hated each other, faes, a freaking fun adventure, a form of fae scavenger hunt, then I highly recommend this book (and the series). 👌😤💕
Plus that cover is beyond beautiful!
ps. This is one of the books that i wish that is actually RH, but it's okay. I know they'll get theirs 😭😭😭😭
Okay I was feeling super slumpy and couldn’t find anything to satisfy my reading needs and then I remembered I have kindle unlimited and had this gem sitting in the system. This... slapped. The hate to love was immaculate. I was never bored. Something exciting was always happening. The friend group? Absolutely amazing. Wish the rest of the series was out so I can binge!!
I never would have given this book a chance if it weren’t a book recommendation from one of my favorite bookstagram accounts. I am so glad I listened!
This book had it all! The world building- where the fae are hunted by humans, is an unique and beautiful spin on the fairy genre and I loved it. The character development is also simply extraordinary.
The only think I didn’t like was the development of the main love interest between Shula and Ryker. There is total chemistry but they hate each other from the beginning and you never see that slow and steamy transition from hate to love. Instead it was hate up until the end and then like on the last pages they suddenly love each other. But don’t let the quick romance deter you - this author can write and she tells a beautiful story! Grab your copy now!
Enjoyed this one! I listened to the audiobook for A Dance with Fire and it was fantastic 😍 in a world where her kind are feared and hunted, our FMC Shula hides in plain sight as a circus performer but lives each day terrified of being discovered. It’s so good, y’all 👀
The world building and magic system were sooo good and easy to understand. I also really loved Shula as our FMC. She was such a good reluctant hero and I really appreciated that she felt relatable.
Can’t wait to read the next book!
Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aleera's take on fae in this book was extraordinary. Typically in books the fae are the ones at the top of the food chain, the most powerful. That's not saying that they aren't in this book, but you definitely wouldn't expect them to be the ones hunted with a now depleted population. Another huge difference in this book is that the higher fae, each with a certain unique power, have a price to pay for each use of their power. Normally, the ones making deals with the fae are the ones who must be aware of the price when asking a favor, so it was very interesting to see the fae themselves have a cost to pay when using their magic. It was different for sure, but it was nice to see that each person took their power seriously and didn't seem to use them for harmful purposes. As far as a main character goes, Shula was a pretty amazing one. I enjoyed watching her growth as she experiences loss, betrayal, guilt, fear, hatred, and more, pushing her to fully face what she is--fae--and to not rely on fear and hiding to keep her safe. Her relationship with the group of fae men was an interesting one as they initially had her with them against her will. Bonds were formed along with some hatred and annoyance, but it was a long process to get to that point. Slow burns aren't normally my favorite, but I loved this one. There was enough tension and arguing to make it an interesting enemy to lover romance. Along with that was a fantastic storyline that I'm dying to continue and see where it goes. I'm anxious to see how the balance and acceptance between humans and fae will happen.
Do you like Fae? Do you like Mate? Do you like I hate you and will constantly argue with you to you are mine tropes? Then this book is for you!
I’m in awe, this book has blown me away I was first drawn from the cover and then I just got pulled in from that first chapter on.
The characters are amazing, Shula is amazing and to see her character growth by the end of this book blew my mind she still has a lot to work through like any character but she is definitely one of my favorites.
Ryker blew me away he comes off as this Hard Ass (excuse my language) who just seems to be pissed off by everything and everyone but really he’s a softy and that’s just the kind of guy who all love, don’t lie you know it’s true.
I could list off all the guys and their amazing qualities but I’ll let you meet them for yourselves because you will right?
My emotions have been through the ringer with this book, I laughed, I cried, I yelled. I was feeling this whole book it was a rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it. From Ryker and Shula’s arguing and banter. To Clay and his flirtatious ways.
The world and magic? Blew me away Aleera has built this beautiful world full of fae and humans that I’m just immediately drawn too. And the magic system? Unlike any other I’ve ever read please just read this book.
I bought this one on a whim based on a recommendation from a friend, and the cover art! I love it so much.
This story is definitely one of my favorite reads this year. The romance, adventure, the creative use of magic had me engaged the whole time. The sexual tension was off the charts in this one. Phew!
If you love Faes and the concept of mates this is a must read! I love that it seems like each book in the series will be focused on a different character, but this series has an overarching storyline I can't wait to see the resolution to.
Check it out! Chocolate cake will never be the same. 😉
Review 4.5 stars! I dove headfirst into this book and it was almost impossible to put it down ! this is a fae Romantasy series with a slow burn enemies to lovers romance. Each book of the series will be focused on one of the fae elementals 😍
Shula is a beautiful and talented fire dancer part of the crew of Piriguini’s circus. However, she hides a dark secret that could be the death of her: she’s fae. Disguised among humans, she lives in constant fear of being discovered. There is a violent and deadly war, where humans persecute and kill the fae in order to eradicate what they deem monstrous creatures.
Suddenly the person she trusted the most turns her back on her and everything collapses. Her pain was incredibly palpable, my heart was stuck in my throat while reading. Shula has to make a run for her life from the circus where she has been living for years. Prepare yourselves for a high stakes plot full of betrayal, captures, rebellions, prophecies and an amazing cast of characters! Shula finds herself smack in the middle of a revolution and working to fulfill a prophecy of the elementals. And ofcourse, put a gorgeous fae warrior in the mix and you get yourself an unputdownable story! 👀
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review!
Enjoyed this one! This is perfect for lovers elemental powers, fae, slowburn enemies to lovers, and an adventure.
I listened to the audiobook for this one and I really loved it, the narration made everything worthwhile and intriguing! Its been a long time since I read a book with a setting in a Circus, Shula is hiding as a performer but with the determination that it will not always be that way.
I loved the author's descriptions and worldbuilding. The relationships Shula finds along the way build a strong found family foundation. And can we talk about Ryker, he's this asshole with a soft side. The enemies to lovers trope in this book is definitely filled with the "I hate to love you" dynamic. Cant wait to learn more about the story, the betrayals, the twists , and the prophecies left me wanting more!
Huge thanks to the author for gifting me the audiobook. All opinions are my own.
I feel like this is the year for indie authors to shine, and Ceres is proof of that. With so much accessible content out there, I found myself feeling slightly overwhelmed— especially after joining Kindle Unlimited (I’ll be posting a review about that service on my blog soon!). With that being said, this novel certainly stood out. I can’t even begin to tell you how many excerpts and covers I skimmed until I fell upon this little gem. The cover is stunning and the concept, intriguing. Fans of Sarah J Maas will fall in love with this new series.
I’m so happy I gave this book a shot, and purchased a physical copy (seriously, the cover is beautiful). The world was lush with lore and filled with possibilities for adventure. The components involved in each landscape makes the world pop out at you, its as if you are actually there.
Each character is carefully created, I felt like the slow pace of the novel offers readers to get to know each and every one of them individually. The main character, Shula, has her flaws and imperfections, and that makes her relatable. Her journey is so poignant, it makes you root for her. Shula represents anyone who ever felt like they didn’t belong, and had to go through great lengths to do so. Her self acceptance in this novel is inspiring, and I admire Ceres for creating such a dynamic character.
The slow-build romance had me literally griping the damn book in my hands. It was certainly part of the reason why I read it in three sittings. Ryker is the perfect calm to Shula’s storm, and together, they are perfect.
I would highly recommend you pick up a physical copy, and support this author! She is a sweetheart and definitely one to watch.
Aleera Anaya Ceres I bow before thee! I've been craving an adult fantasy (specifically fae) romance with a lead character that's a WOC for the longest time, and fate brought brought me to a BookTok video recommending the Fae Elementals series.
I quickly became obsessed with Ceres' writing style - so much so that I read this book in a day! Every single description was vivid and super engaging, especially during the high-stakes action scenes.
Shula's character growth was nothing short of LEGENDARIC. She's an icon, she is a legend, and she is the moment!!! Her occupation as a circus Fire Dancer was so interesting, as were the Middle Eastern influences included in her story. When it came to her relationship with Ryker...I have to admit it was hot as hell (to ME). Full of hatred with a dash of toxicity - just the way I like it. For a good portion of the story, Shula and Ryker wanted each other, but hated that they desired each other, and it filled me with joy.
Although, I have to confess that Ryker was not my favourite out of all the Resistance men. That spot is reserved for Valerio. I can't help that I have a soft spot for Fae princes who wear a crown that's too heavy to handle.
I genuinely can't wait to meet the other Elementals...this series is kind of an adult, fae version of W.I.T.C.H. (cartoon version). All the bad b*tches watched W.I.T.C.H. when they were growing up!
Excellent writing, however I almost DNF at 87 percent because I was through with the fae ruler being just as evil as the human ruler they were fighting.
Leaving the safe house maid and the innkeeper to die needlessly for selfish and stupid reasons. They should have saved them...
I hated ryker as a love interest as well.
The world building and the plot and story were very good as well as the heroine Shula. I did purchase the next book as I am interested in seeing where the story goes. Romance is simply an add-in to the plot.
Overall interesting plot and strong heroines. No hero’s though.
Orna- great character , filomenia, imogen, and Shula were great heroines, but certain plot points as mentioned with the maid and Ryker taking too long caused issues for me in reading this book.
I loved this book! Just downloaded book 2 and can’t wait to get started!
When I had a look at some of the reviews, I was a little put off, but I’d been hooked so thoroughly by then that I had to finish—and I’m glad I did. The characters’ actions are believable when you delve deeper, the emotion gripping and gut-wrenching. I usually can’t stand the enemies to lovers trope, but this totally did it for me.
Great book. Hope book 3 isn’t far away, because I don’t think book 2 is going to last long.
Ryker absolutely does not deserve Shula. She eventually sees him as selfless. I see him as despicable. His cruel and scathing words cut her so deeply that no apology could suffice, in my opinion. I wish she did not forgive him until he groveled and begged her. He kept the knowledge of being mates from her and called her a coward and liar. I would leave him in the dirt.

Absolutely one of my favorites from Aleera! Rich worldbuilding, interesting and diverse characters, a slow burning romance, this hits quite a few of my favorite tropes. Shula and Ryker's love story is not without struggle, but I loved every word of it. Seriously, what an enjoyable read. <3
This book really highlights the author's writing ability. With such a large diverse cast, it can sometimes be hard to make everyone unique. Ceres didn't have this problem! I thoroughly enjoyed every character and the romance aspect to this book and cannot wait for the next couple.
First off, where are the hard covers and special editions? It’s blasphemy that this book is only on paper book! Blasphemy, I say!
Take my money! Give me hardcovers!
I really enjoyed the story line so much so that I stayed up almost 24ours to finish the book. I keep telling myself I’m not a slow burn type of girl but here I am, eating it up, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME! I also went into reading this book not knowing it was part of a SIX BOOK SERIES! It’s okay though, I am hooked and will be continuing on with the series. I will have to take my time with this series because book four is coming out 2025.
I was not the biggest fan of Shula and Ryker’s relationship, but I’m also not used to this type of storyline for fated mates. He was constantly too disgusted with her for me to be convinced he cared. His mood towards her gave me whiplash. But the author just wanted to show us that fated mates are not always a partner you want or see yourself with, which I thank her for.
I also found it so funny that Shula was so concerned and embarrassed that she would get aroused and Ryker would be able to smell her arousal. She was always around other fae males but her only concern was Ryker, like honey, there are literally two fae males sitting beside you and two sitting in front of you and you’re worried about the man in the other room. Too funny.
Honestly, I was rooting for Shula and Valerio, so it was funny to find out that someone in the book was also rooting for the same thing lol. That was an enemies to lovers I could have gotten behind.
I cannot wait for Shula to grow into her powers and become more comfortable with controlling them. She can already do so much now with the little she currently knows about it and I cannot wait to follow her along this journey.
This book was so so exciting. Aleera knows how to world build like no other, her writing is so descriptive that you can picture the scenes and characters so vividly and considering this is the first book in this new series, it was well needed!
The characters were great, Ryker was the definition of broody. He was a Fae ‘monster’ but when you learn why he is the way he is, it melts your damn heart.
I’ll be honest, Shula had a few moments where she stressed me out a bit. I felt like she was progressing and then she would back track. But this is her character dynamic, she is learning who she is and what she is about as she has been brought up very differently.
The side characters were fab, especially Clay, I need him to have his own book because he is my favourite kind of guy. The funny, charming one that doesn’t take himself too seriously 😍.
The ending of this book was brilliant because it wasn’t a cliffhanger that punches you in the gut... I definitely need book 2 ASAP as the ending was so exciting and I still have so many questions that need answering!!!!
Thank you to Aleera for providing me with an early release copy of this book.
"Don’t let your fear rule you, because I believe you can be great.”
Where do I begin? First off, this book quickly climbed to one of my favorite fae books to date. If you want a book filled with action, adventure, betrayal, slow burn enemy to lovers, this book is for you.
This book was very different from other fae books that I've read. It follows Shula, a fae hiding at the circus on an adventure to find out why she is so important to well, everyone.
The attention to detail throughout the book is astounding. Each page grips your attention and you can picture exactly what is happening in your mind's eye. I felt like I was there, watching the storyline unfold. The pictures flashed before my eyes in vivid detail. The world building is fantastic. It's not your typical Faerieland.
I absolutely loved that you built an emotional connection with each and every character. Whether that be hatred, or love, some sort of feeling is there! The character arcs throughout the book are very prominent and well thought out.
The ending of the book set up a perfect segue into book two. I can not wait to devour the second book.
I received an Advanced Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A Dance With Fire by Aleera Anaya Ceres is a high fantasy and book one in the Fae Elementals series. It follows Shula, who is a Fae hiding in a Circus, in a world where people basically want to get rid of her kind.
First of all, I can't believe that it took me this long to start this book because it was phenomenal. The idea of our fmc living in a world where she feels like she needs to hide just being herself was just too relatable. It was truly a path of self-discovery and acceptance. It left me rooting for our fmc the entire way. The world building was just perfection.
I absolutely loved the characters in this story. Aside from Shula being such a relatable character, the rest brought such a good dynamic to the story. The found family vibe was beautiful to witness. The mmc?? I loved and hated him at the same time! Or was it a hate to love him? Lol, either way, I loved this story!
Another magnificent book from Aleera! I loved the fantasy world and it was really interesting to see the dynamic between human and Fae flipped in this book where the Fae are the ones being persecuted against and the humans have all the power.
The main character, Shula, struggles with her identity as a Fae in a world where being a Fae with magic means certain death. Her journey is one that I really loved and I think is so poignant. Shula really represents any one who has ever been unsure of themselves or has not felt comfortable in their own skin. Her love interest in this book is another one of my favorites and the angst and tension between them is magnificent.
If you love fantasy or the Fae, this book is a refreshing twist in this genre and I am so excited to see where it goes in the sequel!
I cannot emphasize how good this was even if there is the possibility of a toxic relationship between them (LOL). I am actually invested in the general plot and I would love to see where their story goes, and I hope it only goes up!
Notes if you consider this (which i highly hope you do) ✅ Very slow burn ✅ They HATE each other like all capital letters (within reason, at least lol) ✅ Very engaging plot; not one moment was i bored, to be honest i even slowed down ✅ Diverse, well-written characters ✅ that GORGEOUS cover ✅ she's one-of-a-kind type of story
If you could take any epic fae story and marry it with the found family/ gang of friends of X men you get the far elements This story is all about Shula and her journey. As you read the book it feels like a pure fantasy book but as the story goes a long you start to get a whiff of the romance in there.
But I love that it’s more about Shula’s journey of hiding her true self to learning about a world that was kept from her.
Lots of parallels to real world oppression and such as well.
This is a pretty good book to read. However, pay attention to the pronunciation of the names at the beginning. If it was not for that I would have been lost and made up names for the characters. With that said, The story line is good and will keep you interested in finishing the book. So you will follow Shula on her journey of self discovery. I love how her character develops through out the book. It is full of mystery and action. There is betrayal, love and hope. You will feel a range of emotions as you read. I cannot wait for the next book to see what will happen.
This book definitely have me all the feelings. There's suspense, action, tragedy in the past and adventure. I loved Shula and Ryker, their dynamic is infectious and I can't wait to read more. Aleera's take on the fae and how they're forced into almost extinction really gave me that spark that other fae books don't have. I loved the attention to detail in the writing and how beautifully the plot flows throughout the story. This fae story just became one of my favourite fae books written and I know I'll be wishing for book two asap. What a book!
