Alpha Mavericks Brigade Book 1An Insta-love Alpha Military Man and Curvy Younger Woman Romance
Irwin
I have her in my arms. I’m looking down at those bright baby blues that take up half her face. She also has the most luscious mouth. Her lips are velvety and pink...It’s like we’re trapped in a bubble and for a few seconds, neither of us can sense anything else in this room. I somehow just knew we had a connection earlier. From the moment she walked into this joint, I knew she was the one....but I’ve already picked sides. Whatever is going on, I want to support Cleo. It’s crazy, I know. I’ve only just met her. But somehow, I feel this urge to be protective of her and make sure she’s okay. I haven’t stopped thinking about her body from the moment she walked in here, but now, there’s more. I’m thinking about what I can do to bring a smile to her face too.Man, I’m in too deep already.
Cleo
I just couldn’t stand the guy you introduced me too. He grabbed my ass two minutes after we were introduced.I literally have no other choice. Marsha has a quick temper and I don’t really know what’ll set her off. If I say the wrong thing, I may not have anywhere to sleep tonight. I can’t believe I ever considered her to be a friend. Even worse, I still can’t believe she is my only hope. Now that we are living together I can see her true colors. She knows I’m indebted to her.Irwin’s presence. The way he held me, saved me from knocking that waiter over, the way he looked at me.But there is something in the way he’s looking at me. It makes me feel like he knows me.This is the kind of man who nobody messes with. He is clearly also the kind of man who stands by his moral code.
This is a Steamy, Sweet, Short Story Romance. No Cliffhangers. This is the 1st story in the Alpha Mavericks Brigade Series. If you love short romances with insta love, hot love scenes, and a sweet story, then this one is for you.
Fast, enjoyable lunchtime read. Not much to it (less than 50 pages) but good for what it is, and doesn't claim to be anything otherwise.
Cleo (h) is dragged to the bar on a double date by her overbearing roommate Marsha. As she tries to escape the unwelcome attention of her date (and the anger of her abusive roommate), Marine Irwin (H) steps in to help. Sparks and insta-love abound.
Insta-love, insta-read. This is less than 50 pages, so a good lunchtime read. The characters are solid for having so few pages to work with. She's beaten down by life, but still has a spark that he sees. He's looking for more in his personal life and knows that he wants it with her - alpha protective without crossing into alpha-hole territory.
I wish the Marsha storyline had been more developed. She had gone above and beyond Mean Girl into straight-out abusive. It would have been interesting to see that really gone into. So often the abuse that a romance lead is escaping is from an ex or a rejected suitor, not a same-sex frenemy/roommate. Just would have been an interesting storyline to really dig into. But yeah, less than 50 pages, so...
Well edited, especially for a free romance short story on Kindle (those tend to be... problematic in editing and proofreading). A few minor things, but overall, well done. Kudos.
Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no love triangles or OM drama. Serious OW/Mean Girl drama with Marsha. Fast and entertaining. Good lunchtime read with satisfying HEA a few years down the road. And I loved that his proposal wasn't a big OTT thing - suited them better. No cliffhangers, but Irwin is part of a team, so I'm sure there will be plenty of other members to write about.
Would I read more in this series? From this author? Sure, especially if free on Kindle again.
For such a short story, Kayla Kelly (say that fast three times) put a lot into it. I read the book over lunch, for so engrossed in it, and didn't even notice what I was eating. Probably not a good thing, but that's how much I enjoyed reading it.
I loved this sweet story. It's a fast read and You will fall in love with Irwin and Cleo. I highly recommend this book, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
This was a very entertaining short story with some punch. The characters come alive, the editing is clean, and there's a little suspense thrown in with a good dose of spice. I'm looking forward to more by this author.
This is a good, short read. One awesome whirlwind. The characters have an immediate attraction to each other. If you like short HEAs, this is a book for you.
