WONDERFUL volume! I'm so deeply relieved that the intensity of the last few volumes has abated and that its much more "relaxing." I found this volume a lot more enjoyable because of it even though the past volumes were very good. (At least I didn't run off to read something fluffy like I did earlier in the series, so progress is being made I think? LOL)

I was SO desperate to start this after the previous volume BECAUSE THAT ENDING!!! Oh my goodness! I wanted to know SOOOO very badly how Yona would react to Hak's confession and what would happen next, but it was so anticlimactic! LOL!! That sounds bad, but it definitely didn't unfold with anything romantic happening like I hoped (hence the anticlimactic)! HA! However, one of my new favorite lines is seeing Hak say he could learn a lot of things from Sinha! I AM FLAILING!!! The highest of compliments for the best boy!!!!! AND SINHA!!! He has his mask off SO much and it makes me happy and want to cry all at the same time! *sobs* The slow growth of his character and how Yona said soooo early on she hoped to see his eyes is not lost on me that we are seeing the fulfillment of it. <3 <3 <3

Ahh I'm so glad that we continue to see so much of Riri! I love her character and she certainly was not a disappointment in this volume (not that she ever has been but she was even more livelier this volume)! I think it would take a longggg time, but I would be interested in seeing her and Su-won develop a relationship. They are very similar in a lot of ways, but also very different. There is that whole complicated situation of her being Yona's ally and figuring out exactly what/who Su-won is. But in the meantime, I really enjoy her shenanigans and seeing her be at the palace. She's such a wonderful character!

Ogi!! I was taken by surprise concerning his role in this one! I won't say much, but I found hism very enduring in this one. <3

TAE-JUN!!! I'm seriously like I need to find some merch of him because he is one of my favorite side characters! He is so wonderful and the conversation with his brother was hilarious given what we know! LOL! I feel bad for him but what follows was total awesomeness! Well, sort of. The battle and the result of the battle wasn't necessarily awesome (because injuries), but I really enjoyed it due to the humor woven in and how Hak is one of the "Four Dragons" (LOL) and just how much love the Fire Tribe has for the legendary stories. It reminds me of Gija's village, but also differently. Still a much more touching interaction then say if we were in Sinha's village.

The bonus story was hilarious! POOR DRAGONS (though secretly poor Sinha more LOL)!! Had a fun and unexpected ending! LOL!

I'm curious how things are going to unfold because Yona's influence and her actions are spreading. I agree with Ogi that she we will become much more of a "nuisance" to the King and his advisors then anyone realized. I'm not really sure how Su-won is going to be able to handle this situation, but I DO feel that he is not your typical villain because if that was the case, Yona wouldn't be alive this far into the series. (I think Yona has even voiced that.) While Su-won may want Yona to live, his one advisor is not going to overlook all of this. Makes me a little worried for Yona and what her future holds because it seems more prickly then it was even when she had to keep her identity hidden!

Y'all, it's Yona. You know I love this series. With this volume, we get a lot of time in Hak's head, which is a nice change, especially considering the end of Volume 26. It was a wonderful start to the next arc of the series, and I am so excited for the next volume!

The HHB go back to Kuuto so the dragons can recover faster from their injuries, there they hear of trouble in the Fire Tribe.

We continue on in this volume with Yona trying to cope with the new romantic development. I really love that the first chapter of this volume gave us a heart-to-heart moment between Hak and Jaeha. I really feel like Jaeha understands Hak the best and I really appreciate their dynamic, and why wouldn't I want to spend some extra time with my two favourites? Also, the more page time we get with Ogi, the more I like his character, Kusanagi’s said she really enjoys drawing older men, and I also think she’s really great with their personalities too. I’m also really happy that Tae-jun’s efforts to help Yona didn’t have any major repercussions for him, and I still find it so strange that he’s one of my favourite characters now. If you had told me that when I first met his character I would have been in complete disbelief. I wasn’t expecting Kai to become a problem again so soon, but I’m really glad our heroes are again there to support the Fire Tribe. I’m nervous about all the attention the dragons are garnering, I mean I knew they were starting to catch the attention of the populace, and that it was inevitable, but I had hoped we’d have more time.

The highlights of this volume for me were Shin-ah not wearing his mask (I’m so happy he’s comfortable enough to not around the HHB) and Zeno’s hair in a ponytail, so cute!

As for the bonus chapters, Hak is so incredibly sweet. I think the first bonus chapter offered some insight into some of Ju-do’s animosity towards Hak. I’ve always thought it irrationally intense, but I see that it could stem from a place of jealousy. And I’m also glad we got a continuation on the Take Care short, it was pretty funny.

Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Suwon who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.

I enjoyed this volume. Whenever the fire tribe brothers are involved I laugh my fool head off. This was a swing volume where we’re finishing up arcs and starting new ones. In Yona of the Dawn this is when our mangaka gives us cute character filled moments that make you love everything about this series even more.

This time Hak has a message for Yona that he’s dying to get off his chest.my heart weeps for him at his natural conclusions but also sings as he’s able to let go of his tight control of his emotions for the first time in his life. Yona is so adorable at her reaction too! I don’t think first love is meant to last forever... at least that’s what I’m hoping for this princess.

Yona of the Dawn is getting better and better with each volume. I’m looking forward to seeing what our gang of dragons tackle next.

I think these are the chapters where we finally see where the characters were at the very very beginning of the manga/anime (Yona fighting from a cliff while the dragons beset a small army). And it is SO satisfying.

This one starts out lighter, but then goes right back into battle, this time back to the Kai empire. We get to see Tae Jun again, and I enjoy seeing how he grows.
Also had some time with Su Won and Riri, which was interesting. We get to see that Su Won was never allowed in the crimson dragon kings chamber, and now when he sees it he's unimpressed. Could that be part of why he killed Il?? A really good series!

Covers Chapters 153-157 + 2 bonus chapters

Now that Hak has divulged his feelings, things are pretty awkward for Yona and the bunch. The tales of Crimson King and his dragon warriors are running rampart and it seems to irk those in Hiyruu Palace, but is praised especially by those in Saika. I guess we will have to see what’s going to happen with the bunch with the invasion they helped stop.

With the Xing affairs in order, the Happy Hungry Bunch is on their way back towards the capital city, so that the dragons can recover; interestingly, more information is given about the King Hiryuu and the bond between him and the dragons, as well as his tomb/shrine from where the dragons get their powers. However, they all cannot enjoy the peace for long, as Kouka is attacked by the Kai empire via Fire Tribe border, and they decide to go help them fend off the attack. Meanwhile, over in Fire Tribe territory, Tae-Jun is just getting reamed out by his older brother, Kyo-ga for possibly raising a false alarm (he doesn't yet know Tae-Jun did it on Yona's request) when a real cause of alarm is raised as the Kai empire attacks. As Yona and co arrive and demonstrate their battle prowess, the Fire Tribe soldiers are invigorated, which makes Kyo-ga nervous.

A new development after Yona's appearance during the events of the Xing arc is that she and Hak have been seen and recognized along with four superhuman people, and rumors spread quickly throughout the kingdom about how they saved people. That, and their past exploits are starting to give them a legendary status among the people, especially because she was supposed to be dead, and Hak was supposed to be a traitor, as per the palace's news. And within the Fire tribe, where their belief in the religion is stronger, they start to think her as the second coming of Hiryuu, a rumor that has both Kyo-ga, and Kye-Soo (Soo-Won's advisor) wary of her presence. Even if Soo-Won himself professes no desire to control the dragons at the moment, Yona's increasing political power is already starting to feel like a threat by those close to him.

However, the volume is not really as serious as I made it out to be above. It is indeed quite light-hearted for the most part, with the fallout of Hak's confession explored, some teasing going on, and then a lot of comic moments involving Tae-jun. The dragons have an amusing scene concerning one Fire Tribe general. There's also scenes within the palace, about how Soo-won's and Riri's relationship is viewed by people there; Soo-won admits to Riri that he is sort of using her as a shield from serious marriage offers. Riri, meanwhile, is conflicted about her position between Soo-won and Yona. Hak, too, ponders about why he is not able to let go, even though Yona seems to have (she gave away the gift from Soo-won), and how he will face him the next time; there's so much angst here!

“Even if this is what you call betrayal, it makes no difference to me. The one who set me on the right path was Princess Yona. No matter what anyone says, I will not allow anyone to lay a hand on Princess Yona, not even you, brother.”

Unsettling winds rise, and a storm brews on the horizon.

How can so much happen in such a short span of time? The answer is simple, it happens because all the previously planted threads and storylines are finally starting to come together and the picture they are painting is not one of rest and peace but a worrisome one.

Through the course of the story we've had many questions answered, and yet, even though things come together and answers are had, we are only unearthing the deeper mysteries that permeate the story, the ones we couldn't understand without all the knowledge we've gained, and they seem to be ready to reshape the story as we know it.

All these story bits and plots just make for the perfectly rumbling, the perfect herald of the things to come.

“I forgot, and I realize something new every time I ponder it, and I’ve become unable to understand it.”

That being said, the human connections are still my favorite part of this story, and that only intensifies with every passing page.

Seeing Hak be so emboldened really makes my day and is a sight for sore eyes.

All of the little connections that have been formed over the course of an adventure's story and how they all mingle and interlace is quite interesting and fascinating to watch. I will never get tired to see the endless combinations that can be had and the different perspectives they bring with them.

Not only are the connections mesmerizing to see, but seeing the personal effect previous events have had on the characters is always something I quite enjoy. The characters do not exist in a vacuum where things happen to them and then they are promptly forgotten, no, they carry them with them, for better or for worse, and have to learn to live with them.

“You may have done cruel things for the sake of this country, but there was a person who loved you this much, huh?”

4 stars!! There wasn't as much going on in this volume as in the last two, but we're finally returning to the Fire tribe after about 100 chapters. I saw a comment in one of the chapters I read saying that they liked it better when Yona and the dragons were less "well-known", and to be honest I disagree with that. I feel like the storyline has only gotten better and better, and I love that there are a lot more battles and more drawn-out arcs. And I wonder what'll happen now that people are starting to realize that Yona is the reincarnation of the Crimson Dragon King. Will the people follow her instead of Suwon? Will nothing happen at all? Who knows?

After Hak's grand confession to Yona in front of everyone, I love how he felt as if a weight was lifted off his chest, and he didn't realize he'd been wanting to confess to her for so long. The only thing I don't like is that there is STILL some miscommunication between them. Hak still thinks Yona kissed him as a "farewell gesture". Hak still doesn't know about Yona's true feelings for him. SHE NEEDS TO STEP IT UP!! I know he loves her unconditionally, but I just know that he would be the happiest man alive to hear that his feelings are reciprocated.

Also, can we talk about how cute the flashback bonus chapters have been?? I think my two favorite ones were the one in this volume, which was the martial arts tournament, and the New Years one. In this bonus chapter, King Il didn't allow Yona to watch the tournament because he's lame (boooo). When Hak finds this out, he forfeits his match in order to spend time with her??? I AM KICKING MY FEET AND SCREAMING. THAT IS SO SO SWEET I CAN'T. And the fact that at the end of the chapter, he made sure she looked good in front of Suwon even though he secretly loved her?? STOP. HE IS SO PERFECT. He has been perfect since day one, and no one can tell me otherwise.

After the previous story arc, this is a bit of a lull between the action, so it's slower than I would like, but still enjoyable.

You can really feel the building conflict between Su-Won and Yona in this, and how the rest of Kohka is just now learning about her and the four dragon warriors.

There's a lot of fluff in this that was pretty wholesome, considering this series can get super emotional and dark at times. It was nice to see it because, again, you can really feel that something big is going to happen soon.

I have a lot of theories about the coming story and the final arc (I think that's what the story is in or getting close to), and there's a lot of subtext regarding Yona, Su-Won and the politics of Kohka that can give you a ton to speculate on.

Side note: we need more Ao content, okay? Ao content is the best content.

Hak has a weight lifted off his shoulders after the confession and Yona is frazzled haha.

RECAP: Riri’s still at the palace, suwon has her there as a marriage deterrent. Fire tribe is actually being attacked and Yona and gang show up to help. The fire troops revere the dragons and the crimson dragon and are !!! To be around them. After the battle Yona and gang help patch everyone up. Meanwhile, everyone’s concern about the support Yona is rallying and what it means for suwon. Ogi is doing recon the whole time.
