Quinn is the handsome, yet guarded owner of LA's most exclusive women-only club, Lix- an incredible adult playground where fantasies do come true. Can Lauren find a way to seduce Quinn and explore the magical world of Lix?
A sizzling hot Butch/Femme Age Gap Lesbian Romance with light BDSM themes by Emily Hayes
Lauren is curious to explore the enigmatic nightclub, Lix, and also her own sexuality. When she meets the club owner, Kelly Quinn, she is blown away by Quinn's charm and natural dominance. Quinn is fiercely guarded and Quinn is a player. Can Lauren find a way to change all of that?
So much potential ruined but plot slips, name slips, and glaring grammatical errors. If you're not easily distracted by such things, you might get more out of this book than I did.
All depends on what you what - I borrowed that line from the book.
A few more gems.... smiling her in direction. Can I get you, ladies, to drink
It's is my first time Quinn paused and looked directly into Quinns eyes. Huh? her alarm clocked buzz - clock buzzed? Quinn smiled hungrily and reached her head up her mouth, finding Lauren's nipple... I
Contains:: FF, very light BDSM. St. Angela's cross, suicide (background, past lover) rimming/analingus (which was gag-worthy and completely unsafe), and two heroines who happen to be squirters.
I picked this up after reading a rave review, and since it being a butch/femme, naturally I gravitated toward it. I was not impressed. Lix started off well, flowing with beautiful descriptions, leading to a promising, well-drawn out story. Unfortunately, it all went to sh*t when everyone started talking. The dialogue was bad and awkward and made me scrunch my eyes up several times. What's with the need for the excessive exclamation points! It felt like the conversations were either being shouted in anger or expressed jovially... about everything! ;) Too much, dude, too much.
Lix, to me, was shallow. I appreciate the author attempting to add layers with the whole "suicide backstory" giving the protag more character. It was a great excuse as to why Quinn was withdrawn, cold, and why she kept people at arms length, but I feel the author failed. I understand this story is mainly erotica, but to add that kind of backstory, something so heavy and dark, it needed more work in order to pull the readers' heartstrings and feel any kind of sympathy or empathy toward her. The sex was in the middle for me. I loved the Domme/sub moment, and I enjoyed the spontaneous f*cking behind the cafe. Nicely done.
All in all, I give this 3 stars for the sex and for the hot butch.
2.5 stars, this book has quite a few errors. These errors should have been caught by proofreading & editor review. This is supposed to be an erotic story, although the author flirts with a HEA, meanwhile railing against it. Others may like this more, but due to above issues I couldn't rate it higher.
Quinn is so strong and still very sensitive. She has a very troubled heart and Lauren seems to have the cure. The two have a deep connection. Their sex is off the charts. I do hope that in the next book things continue to heat up. I want them to have a HEA.
I have a head full of question marks! I am baffled by the second book of the LIX series. The Domme, Quinn, is a huge question mark. If I were her sub I would be running, nervous, confused, and struggling with trust issues. sub-Lauren is new, needs answers and tries to dialogue. Quinn always puts it off. Quinn is the owner of an erotic BDsM women’s club and really doesn’t have answers or only a vague idea. How did she manage to get into this business? Safewords are ever-changing and inconsistent. Limits and boundaries are not set up or left hanging. The one time Lauren balks Quinn volunteers her anyway. The most alarming incident occurs when Lauren experiences a sub-drop. What Domme worth having does not know what sub-drop is and how to deal with it? In this case, our supposedly experienced Domme is clueless. In dealing with an unknown third party no safeword is mentioned and safe sex practices are unheard of. Quinn wants to expand on the kink side of the relationship. How does one expand when you don’t know or disregard the basics? A number of these basics are explained but outside of their relationship in a class. The high bar set for Quinn as a professional is left shattered. Her character was inconsistent and hard to believe. By the time I reached the end, my head was swimming. If I were Lauren (the sub) I would be wearing a sandwich board reading, “Experienced Domme’s please apply here!”
At her first night at Lix, a lesbian dance and sex club in LA, Lauren is escorted around by Quinn, the club's owner and a notorious player not at all interested in a relationship. At 48, Quinn is getting a bit disenchanted with her life and is unable to deny her strong attraction to the younger, feminine Lauren. Both agree to a no-strings sexual relationship and their Dom-Sub chemistry is off the charts. But Lauren wants more and Quinn is still unable to move past the death of her first love.
This short book has some positive elements, including the characters (especially Lauren), the heat factor, and the club Lix. But we learn much more about the butch Quinn and her past than we do about Lauren, who is supposed to be focused on her career, but we never get to hear much more about it than that. The book is filled with lots of telling, not showing, a shortcoming of this author, as well as a lot of copy editing errors that could have easily been corrected.
My rating teeters between a 2 and 3, but I'll round up.
The very strong sexual connection the leading characters had was intense. Quinn was hard to like at first. Her walls around her heart felt unbreakable but as Lauren touched her the walls crumbled. A little too much miscommunication was hard to read through. Their life changing conversations came in texts or long letters. So the coming together at the end leaves me wanting book 2. Their getting together was delightful but a rollercoaster ride of love embraced. I anxiously await the next step in their relationship between two strong women.
Another exceptionally well written story from the pen of Emily Hayes which I gave my full attention to as author to author. The whole BDSM lifestyle has never interested me and I find some of the concepts difficult to grasp but I read to enjoy and my comments reflect the writing, all lovers of stories whether like me or into the world of dommes and subs will love this latest contribution.
Lix is sexy with a little kink book, gotta love it! The tough butch Quinn and the beautiful femme Lauren are characters I hope to read more about in the future. Emily Hayes writes excellent stories that leave you wanting more. I am looking forward for her next book.
I so hope there are more books about Quinn and Lauren. This book just gave me a taste of what an incredible author Emily Hayes is. The story line in this book is sensual, erotic and begins what could be an outstanding power dynamic between Quinn and Lauren. Their individual baggage makes this an interesting yet engaging minefield for their relationship.
The beginning and middle of the book were fine. I was enjoying the 2 leads and their chemistry. I was able to ignore the grammatical errors and push through, but the last part felt like it was written in a rush and by someone else. It was so corny and I cringed reading it. I didn't even want to finish it because it was that bad.
Wow another fantastic book I couldn't put this book down it was incredible the main characters were perfectly balanced and chemistry was hot and very passionate loved it congratulations.
First and foremost I was a little put off by all the grammatical errors. That being said the story was just okay. The lead character Quinn was described as this amazing lover, but the sex scenes were lackluster. For lesbian erotica, I was expecting a bit more.
I loved this book, how Lauren went to the club and became enamoured by the owner and was always going to in the hopes that she would run into Kelly Quinn. I can't wait to read the next book.
Overall I liked the story but I didn't think this would be an instalove romance. The owner was supposed to be a hardcore owner but constantly doubted herself with her love interest being so needy. If you like this type of romance this is for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Lauren and Quinn were really good together. Their chemistry was off the charts. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I needed more of a background story of the characters to make it more cohesive. It felt rushed to me.
The characters seem rask - the book includes many kinds of interactions, and the responses of the characters and, more importantly, their choices of reactions are good examples that many folks could learn from
The author was able to easily paint a picture with words. I hope the rest of the set gets better for those who will continue with the series because, for me, the plot was anticlimactic. The grammatical errors were annoying. And the childish drama is so unappealing.
Can't wait for the next book. Quinn and Lauren have chemistry that needs to be explored. Lix gives just enough for me to hope they have a "happy ending" so to speak. Sexy!
Very enjoyable and hot love story. The main characters were so different but so into each other. Opposites did attract and were so good together. Nice ending.
A very promising beginning to the "Lix Club" series! If age gap lesbian romance with a touch of BDSM is your cup of tea, put this book on your list read list!
A little too unrealistic for my tastes. Lacks substance & needs better timing. I finished the book but only because I’m built that way—finish what you start.
Emily is definitely one of my favorites! Short story but with good content!! Straight to the point you don’t feel like she is rushing the story to wrap it, chemistry to the roof between the MC. I really enjoyed it! Nice and well written age-gap romance!
I liked it, I liked the characters, and I liked the hot scenes. The only thing I thought could've been better, or at least a bit more fluidly put together, was the ending. The ending was the only thing that I didn't quite like, that makes it go from a solid 4-star to 3-star, that is because it felt forced and a bit too fast-paced. The story had a pretty solid pace to it, not too fast and not too slow, but at the end it did feel a bit more rushed.
Seemed like a kindle edition printed by mistake. Including the KU links at the back with "click here". I can overlook missed words, grammatical errors and general mistakes to a point but it also has too many inconsistencies in the story. Some parts felt rushed, others too dragged out. Feelings seemed forced. I just couldn't get emotionally involved with the characters. I won't be reading the next book in the series.
