Familiar Magick #2

Summoning Secrets

Rate this book

Accidentally summoning a demon was NOT my plan. Now he says I need his help, and won’t leave—and I’m oddly alright with that.

I’m new to this magick thing. I’ve aced my classes in college because they're normal, predictable, safe. Fire magick is chaos. The first time I try to wield my magick on my own, I make a mistake. A big mistake. Now I have this leather wearing demon in my life. He’s gorgeous, dangerous, and the way his thighs and ass look in those tight pants should be illegal. I want to learn, and he seems more than willing to teach me everything I need to know…about magick and so much more. If only learning my powers was the only thing I’ve got to handle.

There’s someone trying to kill me.

When we go in search of answers and help, we find out we're part of a bigger picture, and there's a prophecy (of course, there’s always a prophecy). I’m a certified nerd. I’m not cut out to save the magickal world. The way my leather daddy demon protects me from every threat makes me feel confident we can navigate this new world... if we stick together. But can you ever really trust a demon?

In book two we retrace how Tragin and William end up on Toby and Alt's doorstep at the end of book One. All in all we're getting closer at finding out Who or What killed The High Counsel and how our Witches and mates can save the world.

Tragin and William's were adorable couple I love how the story unfolds. Steamy love scenes and great witty banner. No spoilers here I voluntarily review this book for my honest opinion.

I am enjoying this series and seeing how the characters come together. William is being thrown into a world he knew nothing about and Tragin is there to help but he needs to tell William the whole truth first. I loved how hot and heavy these two were with each other and how they couldn’t keep their hands off of the other. By the end they have connected with the two from the first book but now another is missing. I look forward to seeing how the series continues.

Abigail Kade is a new-to-me author through an ARC I received from Gay Romance Reviews. I was intrigued by the blurb because, well, Tragin (the demon) sounded hot and I love the dangerous demons helping out good witches trope (okay maybe it's not an official trope...yet... but it should be)! The only thing I didn't expect was how short the story was... I didn't read the first book in this series, and you don't have to because William and Tragin's story stands alone well inside the overall plot arc of the series. It felt like just as William and Tragin are getting to know one another (William summons Tragin like halfway through the book because the book is only 147 pages), they find the couple from the first book and their part to play in their destiny. I was still left wondering who is trying to kill William (because yes, it's a series... but I didn't feel one step closer to the unraveling of the mystery).

The redeeming factor for me was how hot it was for William to dream about his demon (these are sexy dreams) before accidentally summoning Tragin. But once Tragin appears the story snowballs... Tragin isn't as dangerous as I had hoped; he falls for William right away. In fact, the story is told from alternating first person views by William and Tragin. Readers meet Tragin before William meets Tragin. From the blurb I assumed the story will be told from William's POV and readers would get to know and trust Tragin together. Though this story has a HFN ending, it was a bit unsatisfying getting to it because of how quickly the couple falls for each other without really facing any danger before the book sets readers up for the next couple of the series.

I'm going back to read Book 1 and continue with the series just to get some answers!

Demons and witches really shouldn't mix but a mistake made by a new witch, a really really big mistake brings the demon Tragin crashing into witch William's life. And William doesn't really mind, especially with someone trying to kill him.

Throw in a sassy squirrel and some hot sexy times and this was a good October read.

I tried, I really did, but there is WAY too much going on. The characters have no depth, the romance is severely unrealistic, and the number of spelling errors just compounded on my inability to connect with the story.

This is my first foray into the Familiar Magick series, and I'm hooked! Everything about William felt exciting and new: his mysterious heritage, his intoxicating yet unexplainable connection to Tragin, his powerful abilities. It was thrilling to follow the twists and turns of his journey, especially with the looming sense of danger in the background. I didn't know I'd be such a fan of demon/witch pairings, but holy wow did Tragin and William have insane sparks of chemistry. Even though I knew a lot more about Tragin than William did, I still have so many questions about his origin and abilities. One thing's for sure--Tragin is not the evil demon that the prologue made him out to be. I loved seeing his possessive protectiveness of William, and when he did allow their contact to get steamy I almost lost my mind from sheer lusty delight. While the majority of this story worked well as a standalone, I will admit that I still don't really understand the prophecy and boxes with keys and clues. I was already planning to go back and read book 1, so hopefully everything will make sense to me after that. Even without fully understanding the bit at the end, I'm still so excited to see what's next in this series. I'm sure the next book will have a different pairing, but I honestly could read another hundred pages of Tragin and William. I feel like the two of them have so much more to explore in their new relationship, and I want to be a fly on the wall for every single new experience they have together.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

I really enjoyed this one, I mean, who doesn't want their very own sexy, kinky, badass demon. I loved the brotherhood between William and Aaron. Both boys had grown up with only really having each other to rely on. When truths started to be revealed, William did decently well handling them. Not sure how I would handle discovering that I'm a powerful witch, and also the last of my family name. But hey, William can't really complain too much, he does have himself a sexy demon who's down for fulfilling every dirty fantasy he's ever had. Tragin, the demon, is a growly, possessive, protective, leather wearing wet dream come true. The chemistry between the two was off the charts. When they accept that they're mates, wow, I was actually jealous of William because Holy shit did Tragin ever claim him. Seriously, where's the sign up sheet for my own personal demon like him?! Okay, now that I've gotten myself back under control, let's continue with the story. So, William and Tragin sealed the deal, the power they create together is going to shock the world, and I feel sorry for those dumb enough to challenge them. The end sets up for book 3, and I can't wait to read it.

William is new to all things magical. Turns out he is the last in a line of powerful fire witches. So he might have maybe summoned a demon? But what he doesn't know is that the demon was already his protector. Tragin has been watching over William his whole life and doesn't that make things interesting when things heat up! I hadn't read the first book but I had no trouble following the story because the previous characters didn't come around until the end. This book moves fast but that isn't a problem for me. William is a bit of a trooper accepting everything but I guess it would be hard to deny the truth when you can produce blue flame and are faced with a very sexy demon in leather pants. And let's not forget Phillip the squirrel familiar. I love his snark! A cute, fast paced book of magic and fated mates. I can't wait to see what happens to Aaron in the next book. These are a lot of fun.

Love the characters and their magical world!

This is a must read if you like some magical MM romance I definitely recommend you read book 1 in this series first, as it ties in, but they are both great books. There is an underlying story arc from book to book as well as a focus on the main couple coming together in each book. The characters are well done and I like them a lot. Tragin especially, I mean, sexy demon protector? Yes please! Another favorite thing is the dialogue which has plenty of touches of wit and humor.
I would say it was a little less in-depth that the first and also ended a little awkwardly which is why I went with 4 instead of 5. I assumed that it would set up for the next one and it does, which yay, I want to know what happens next!. But the last bits seemed a bit rushed and the ending came abruptly/unexpectedly. However I still really enjoyed this book and am very much looking forward to the next in the series!

I enjoyed the second book in the Familiar Magick series. I think I liked it even better than book one. Instead of both mates being witches, we have a 25yo witch and his demon protector. Did I mention the demon is basically a leather daddy? No? Well he is and its uber hot. There is also some mild master/sub kink, but no real bdsm elements unless you count spanking.

The book was fast paced and we meet again with Ath and Toby from book 1 in the hunt for keys. The familiars also play a fun part with their large personalities and often vulgar language. William's familiar is a squirrel named Phillip and let me tell you he's not a fan of Chester.

The ending of this one gives us a clue to the next pair up and lost witch. I was hoping the next witch would be him as soon as I read chapter 1. I will def be continuing with the series.

I really enjoyed this the second book in the series. Once again it’s well crafted and I fell back into this magical world very quickly.
William and Tragin are wonderful characters who each have their part to play in the prophecy that’s the overall story arc.
William is unaware of his magic until he reaches 25 years old, he’s nerdy, extremely smart but still somehow manages to summon Tragin. Tragin the gorgeous leather wearing Daddy demon. Things certainly heat up when these two finally yield to the chemistry between them.
Interesting side characters include the snarky squirrel familiar Phillip who holds his own with anyone, and Ki the magical being with a delightful way of bungling his words.
This is a very easy enjoyable read with no angst, mild kink and we are left with the scene being set for the next in the series.

Fire witches, demons and a squirrel familiar create a delightful story.  This is a fun read with humor, snark, a protective demon, an accepting witch and so much more.  I liked that we got to see Atherton and Tobias from the first book toward the end of this one.  This is a fun story of fated mates and magical romance that will have you smiling.

The forward of the story really set the stage for me and i was so curious how the threads would all weave together.  I so enjoyed the 'key and box' idea from the first book coming into play in this story also, it is such a creative idea.

I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review

This is book two of the Familiar Magick series and can be read as a stand-alone.  I am so looking forward to the next book.

This is book 2 in the Familiar Magick series, but can be read as a standalone.

This was an adorable story between a leather demon daddy and a fire witch.
The world building was unique and engaging. I haven't had the chance to read book 1, but will soon remedy that.
Tragin was such a super sexy Uber demon, and William was absolutely adorable, sweet and so cluless about magic. They both are like day and night, but fit perfectly together.
The dialogue is fun, snarky and down right hilarious at times.
The secondary characters were well fleshed out as well and complemented the storyline. I especially liked Philip, the adorable squirrel familiar.
This was an easy read, low on the angst and had some light kink.
If you are looking for a sweet paranormal romance with cute chaotic witch who accidentally summons up a sexy demon, you will love this.

This is my first book by this author and therefore my first in the series. I’m not sure if that means that I’m missing something or if this is a somewhat stand-alone book in the series.

The blurb feels slightly misleading to me as I was expecting everything to happen at the beginning of the story when they actually happen about half way through the book as other things have already been put in motion. There is also a cliffhanger (open) ending in which the major events in the book are not wrapped up. I’m guessing everything will be finished in the next book or next few books.

I’m also guessing this series is best read in order. Even with all of that I still enjoyed the story very much and highly recommend it but maybe read book one first so you don’t feel as lost as I did.

I received an arc and this is my honest review.

Shut the front door. Who knew a leather daddy demon could be so hot! I am loving this series and want the next book asap! I need to know what happens to Aaron. But William and Tragin...boy were they fun. I loved that Tragin got roped into protecting William. I didn't like that he lied to him but I liked that he was always there for him. That scene at the club was awesome but I think the one in the woods was even better. William was kinda like the nerdy guy, which I love. He was cute in his innocence but there was devil lurking underneath. I loved it.

I'm really enjoying his this whole adventure is coming together. Toby and Ath now William and Tragin. We know that Aaron is up next. Will Ki be his mate? I hope so. And then who's after that? I can't wait to find out. Please gimme more!!!!

2.5 stars. I was severly disappointed by the first book and only decided to give the second instalment a try because I already have the book and it's rather short.
I don't know if this one is actually better than the first or if my expectations were so low that it influenced my rating. Both is possible. Which is to say, I kinda liked the second book, at least a bit. We get a glimpse at the wider world building, and there are various beings as well as gods in this world. I think I might even continue this series, as long as I keep my expectations low. Sometimes (often) when I'm tired I like to read easy and simple books.
One thing I absolutely didn't like was that, like in the first book, anal-sex seems to be the only way to really show your love for your partner. Sex has many forms and not everybody likes anal, some people don't like sex at all. So yeah, that put me off.

Good couple

I wish that Will was more realistically doubtful when he started learning about his heritage. If he was always the logical wet blanket that he was introduced to us as, he wouldn’t have been as accepting of magic, or his bond to Tragin as he, apparently, was.

I liked Will and Tragin better than I did Atherton and Toby, and I really am interested in what will happen with Aaron and Ki. However, there was pretty much zero progress in the overall plot of the series beyond another fated pairing. We know nothing more about the prophecy or about the source behind the trouble that the witches are facing.

Fire and Ice

Angels, demons, and squirrels, oh my! This series is full of magical fun and adventure. I love it so much and want my own leather daddy demon, especially if he comes with horns and looks exactly like Tragin, yum. “My little angel with the mind and the needs of a demon. You were made for me.” Mmm, William is adorably naughty and full of the best surprises. I loved watching the relationship between him and Tragin unfold, but I can’t forget about the wonderfully sarcastic Phillip. I adore that squirrel. I love how everything is unfolding but I really need the next book. I think it will be the key to unlocking everything. A fantastic, bewitching tale.

I was instantly hooked into the story!! When we first meet Targin, he has been summoned by William’s Grandmother to take care of and protect him. William comes into his magic when he is 25 and inherits the family house. He and his best friend move into the house. I loved the chemistry between William and Targin, hot!! I loved the familiar Philip, the squirrel!!Love the demon/witch pairing. The story was a short, quick read, with some light kink and no angst. I highly recommend! I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

This sweet, funny, sexy AF story was a quick read and second in the series. There is minimal angst, and some really funny events, many courtesy of a certain squirrel familiar. There's only mild kink, in case you aren't into that kind of thing, but it's definitely hot. This is a great story for William and Tragin, who we met at the end of book I. I think it could be read as a standalone, but you'll have a better understanding of the larger story arc if you read Discovering Destiny first. The ending was a bit sudden and awkward, but it does lead into the next book.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Summoning Secrets follows William, the last in a line of fire witches. When William was a baby, his grandmother summoned a demon, Tragin, and made a deal that he would protect William for life, in exchange for his soul. Tragin visits William in his dreams, and they both feel attracted to each other. When they meet for real, Tragin keeps his secret from William. As they grow closer, and get caught up in a prophecy, Tragin has to eventually come clean, and to move forward with William.
I always enjoy Abigail Kade's characters. There's a nice mix of sweetness and spice.
Summoning Secrets is an insta love fast read, about a fire witch and the demon of his dreams.

Not sure why some authors love to portrait psychopaths as if they were good characters. In his first appearance the demon offhandedly mentions he has mutilated/ tortured and murdered someone just because they dared to make a move (not justifying the aggressive move but still doesn’t justify him being murdered) on the MC. And we are supposed to like a character like that ? To be into him having sex (if the distorted relationship they have can be called having sex) with the mc ? Do people really find the idea of having sex with a murderer hot ? Cause if so, that’s really messed up and I struggle to see how they can relate to such a character.

Don't know what happened

It just ends. Like, randomly ends. It was so random and jarring I went back pages just to make sure I didn't jump pages on accident. I was especially disappointed because I actually liked this one better than the first by a wide margin. Targin was HOT. Like fire hot.

Big big issue other than it just randomly ending was that it was so thin. This needed more. Lots more. I will still get the next in this series, but I wish there was more of these two MCs.

Demon reading.

The second book of this series is as much fun, steamy and full of spells as the first. William and Tragin are a wonderfully written adorable couple, they have been destined to be together since before William was born. Phillip and his snark was an unexpected bypassing his two pence worth to all the banter.
I liked that the book could have been a standalone but as part of the series it adds another layer to the overarching plot line. I really am looking forward to Aaron's story.

A worthy addition

Kade is truly a gifted writer, she shifts beautifully from intense dialogues to humor with little effort. The effect is both engaging and familiarly human. If I were on the verge of an apocalypse I’d need to get snarky too to regain my balance.
I look forward to the third title in this series, it’s bittersweet. On the one hand, I get to exciting final chapter and on the other hand it means the story is ended. I win but lose at the same time, I’m invested in these characters.

This was just good. Not great not outstanding just good. I kept reading because I thought that more would happen. It did not. The characters were completely one dimensional, fun but no depth. The story was missing. It is a FAST read so I was not really out of time. It felt more like indepth soft core than an actual story. I thought that there could have been so much more and it was set up to have so much more. I was completely shocked to find out that I even finished the book. It just ended. I feel cheated.
