No one will expect anything from a sixteen-year-old girl, but it’s your decision to prove them wrong. It’s what you choose to do now that will define who you become.

4 stars

I really loved this sequel! While many series struggle with their book two, I did not feel that this was the case with The Unseen Ones . Picking right up from where book one left us on a cliffhanger, The Unseen Ones immediately throws us right back into the action and anxiety of book one’s ending. While the friend group camaraderie was absent (rightfully so), I didn’t find myself missing this part of the plot because another unique, special relationship grows in its place.

I did still have issues with Hollis, but as with book one, I think my issues all stem from her being a typical 16 year old who acts impulsively and sometimes selfishly. So in that sense, I do appreciate that Hollis acts her age whereas many YA heroines unrealistically tend to act like someone much older and much more mature.

I also couldn’t quite figure out who I was supposed to hate as the villain. I found myself placing societal rules and regulations as the villain and not the President, who I think was supposed to be the villain...I’m still not quite sure who or what I’m supposed to hate the most. The President’s character felt shallow and underdeveloped and because of this, I couldn’t quite connect with him as a villain quite like I could with, say, President Snow in The Hunger Games. Like the President in this series, Snow doesn’t appear in many scenes, however the scenes he does appear in add so much to his depth as a villain.

Ultimately though, I absolutely sped through this book because I couldn’t wait to see what happened. If a book can make me stay up way past my bed time knowing I have a child that’s going to be wide awake before 6AM, that’s how I know it’s a book that’s worthy of my time and worth recommending! Crossing my fingers that we get a book 3 soon because AGAIN with a cliffhanger...I can’t wait to see where this story takes us!

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hello! I'm the author, so I'm biased. ;D

WOW this book was a crazy ride! (And I have my little sister to thank for bugging me to turn Hollis's story into a series. Gabby, you're the best<3) I had so much fun writing the second installment. I laughed and cried all the way through the process, and I learned a ton about my own writing style. I dare say I'm even more proud of TUO than I am of TDO.

Some things I love: (No spoilers, I promise.)

Jonah. He is near and dear to my heart. He's my favorite character - hands down. He's actually inspired by a professor I had in University.

Hollis's growth. Her struggle to become the person she's meant to be in the face of an impossible set of circumstances is beautiful. That's why this series was "the one" for me. I didn't know what project would get me published (I've written many!), but when I started writing her story, I knew this was it. I wanted to write about a young, brainwashed girl who made the wrong choice - a choice that many of my readers (and characters) were devastated by in TDO. But Hollis's journey of redemption in TUO gives me all the feels!

The action and the twists! :D Not gonna lie, this book took me on a rollercoaster. There were times where I was weeping at my keyboard, typing through the tears, screaming at the top of my lungs, dancing alone in my room, and wishing the whole series could be written already so I could read it. I'm a sappy, sappy human.

If you've read my books, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every review means so much to me. I hope you found TUO to be a thrilling edition to the twisty world I'm still creating in my mind every day.

The Unseen ones picked up right where The Diseased Ones left off, with action-packed terror as Hollis is faced with the consequences of her reckless actions. Danielle Harrington has a way of writing that flows so easily and keeps the plot fast-paced throughout the entire read, the pages literally flew on my hands.

If you haven't read book 1 there are some spoilers below!**

The diseased ones have been discovered, their hideout is compromised. They must flee or die. Hollis is labelled a traitor, her actions caused the destruction and loss of many lives. I felt like the story took a turn that reminded me of one of my favorite dystopian reads; The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Hollis isn't trusted, not even by whom she thought were her close friends. She is now seen as the enemy, living amongst a society forced in hiding. I really enjoyed the entire dark atmosphere full of distrust and suspicion. I felt this scary feeling of looking over my shoulder while reading, I was truly scared for Hollis and kept rooting for her while she tried to prove her allegiance.

One of my favorite parts was their training and discovering the potential of each person's unique power. Since I am a romance-lover I did feel a bit of lack of romance in the Unseen Ones, I am hoping to see more on the next book! The ending as in the previous book is crushing, Danielle is a master of cliffhangers and she will make you scream in agony and desperately want the next book!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of the book!

THE UNSEEN ONES was a wild ride! The story picks off immediately after the events of The Diseased Ones and not without delivering serious blows to my heartstrings. From the very first pages, the stakes are immediately higher for Hollis and the other Diseased Ones. Her decisions in the previous book have an impact on all of their lives, and now Hollis must deal with the consequences of her actions and struggle to piece together what has been broken.

Hollis’s character development was one of my favorite parts of this sequel. In the previous book I mentioned that she wasn’t one of the characters I felt any particular draw to, but it’s like the author seized the opportunity to draw me away from the distracting secondary characters and force me to sit down and live in Hollis’s mind. It takes strength and courage to admit to your mistakes, and Hollis shows that in this book. Her humility to accept the consequences of her actions and her determination to deal with everything dealt to her in this book was something I really admired. This girl pulled out some serious attributes and I can officially say she won me over!

Another thing I really enjoyed was her bond with Jonah. I already loved this mentor/father figure in the Diseased Ones, but I feel like the special bond we’d already seen in the first book was even more evident when faced with the hardships of this installment. I can say without the shadow of a doubt that their bond is my favorite in the series, though I have to say I’m also growing very fond of the understanding between Hollis and a certain little boy that’s giving me strong found family sibling vibes!

The only minor issue I can point out is a bit of a slower middle with some detailed training scenes that affected the otherwise quicker pace of the rest of the book, but other than that, I really enjoyed this sequel and can’t wait for what comes next. Danielle Harrington loves to deliver awesome reveals in her endings only to leave us hanging on amazing cliffhangers!

The Unseen Ones picks up where The Diseased Ones left off in this second book in the Hollis Timewire series. In book one, a dystopian society teaches its citizens absolute obedience. In it, Hollis, determined to rid herself of a power that give her the ability to control other people, is indeed stripped of her gift. The Unseen Ones shows the aftermath of her pivotal decision and how Hollis lives with the consequences. Only one stands with her when the world turns its back on her. But sometimes, when just one person believes in, encourages, and supports you, it is enough. More mysteries and tragedies unfold as Hollis embarks on a daring mission to correct her mistakes. Harrington does a masterful job of depicting the emotions that underlie feelings of failure and loss and offers a believable method of coming out of that depression. She provides just enough suspense to keep the reader turning the pages without giving away any secrets. I am anxious for the next book to come out to find out about the final resolution to Hollis's story. Well done, Danielle!

The first book, The Diseased Ones, ended in a cliffhanger which this sequel picks up within seconds of that moment. I did get a bit annoyed at Hollis for her naivety combined with her impulsiveness just get her into bigger and bigger trouble. I hoped that she got better in this sequel.

In The Unseen Ones, Hollis has to live & work through the massive consequences of her action. She's lost a part of herself and she needed to earn trust back all at the same time. She came up with a brilliant idea on how she could earn that trust back again but of course, things can't just be that simple. And at the end, she found herself trying to fry a bigger fish than she can handle. Thankfully, it's not a cliffhanger ending like the first book but it was still a curious ending. I'd like to know where the author is taking Hollis and her friends in their next journey.

I have enjoyed both books in the series to date as they are both very fast reads; easily put down and pick up as I go about with my kids. It's a great book to wind down with as well as it doesn't need too much brain power and yet, it's got enough action to keep my interest.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is book 2 in The Hollis Timewire Series and takes place straight after the ending of book 1 - The Diseased Ones - which ended on a major cliffhanger.

The Plot:
As I said, this book immediately picks up from where the last book left off; lots of action straight from the get-go. No spoilers, don't worry! I really enjoyed the action/fighting scenes in this book, and they were the main moments where I was deeply submerged in the story. There were some parts that felt a bit reparative, like Hollis chopping wood again and again, but that was easy to look past when there was plenty of other drama in-between. An honourable mention is that cliffhanger at the end! *screams internally* Some of the other plot points were pretty easy to guess (there's a specific one near the end), but that didn't cloud my enjoyment of the story either.

Characters:
Jonah and Candice are 100% my favourite characters. I don't need to elaborate. I liked Hollis' character development, the strength and mindset she establishes throughout book 2 following the events of book 1. I LOVE how Hollis makes mistakes and I myself was questioning how I would treat her myself, given her actions and their consequences on the group. There were some characters I was sad to see go, but some new bonds and relationship developments that I am looking forward to seeing in the next instalment.

The writing:
I felt that Danielle's writing was rather different in this book than in the first book -but in a good way! The writing was simple yet polished (the style I adore to read most) and you can see Danielle's development as a writer. Keep it up!

Overall:
This was a solid 4 star read for me, it was entertaining and action-packed, and I liked the more unique and individual path the story was taking. I can't wait for the next instalment!

Thank you, Danielle, for sending me an ARC of this book to read and review. All opinions and thoughts are entirely my own.

Thanks once again to the author for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Super successful second installment! In The Unseen Ones, we rejoin Hollis literally right where book one left us on an insane cliffhanger, launching into a completely devastating aftermath wherein Hollis must immediately begin to grapple with the grave mistakes she has made.

The heart-pounding events of this book proved to be essential for Hollis’ character development, as she delves deep into a dark place where she must overcome hateful feelings of others and even those she feels towards herself. I feel like this author did a masterful job of painting a painful picture of a formerly brainwashed, naive girl, and her journey from her depressive, outcast state to true heroism: time for Hollis to accept the person she was, and fight to become who she needs to be. This is a heroine redemption story at its absolute finest!

I appreciate so much a series with cleverly crafted plotting, succinct and addictive writing, and massive scope of worldbuilding without any info-dumps to speak of. These books are precisely the kind of book recommendations I know will resonate with my high school students for their messages of finding yourself and growing from your past errors. Safe to say these books have earned their forever home on my classroom library shelves!

What an exciting sequel!

The Unseen Ones, book two in The Hollis Timewire Series, picks up right where the previous book left off in a whirlwind of action and emotions. The stakes are higher than ever, and Hollis has to face the consequences of her choices. How can she redeem herself when she put the Diseased Ones at risk? That is Hollis’s objective throughout the book. To do better, to be part of a community that had taken her in and given her shelter when she needed it the most.

I liked seeing Hollis’s growth in this second installment in the series. Her disposition to do good only increased here, because Hollis is aware she made a mistake and wants to fix it. Because she knows the government is using a little boy as a secret weapon, and she wants to save him at all costs. Hollis is a hero—flawed, relatable, and all the more likable because of it.

My favorite character in the series, however, remains Jonah. He has all the qualities I love seeing in a character. Jonah truly feels like a father, not just to Hollis but the whole community. I felt like we had even more page time between him and Hollis. I like his role as a mentor in Hollis’s life, and I like their dynamic.

I didn’t mention anything about the romance in my previous review, but I’d like to add a note on it now. There’s tension between Hollis and Keith after what happened at the end of the first book—rightfully so—and this adds drama to their relationship. I’m not sure if I’m fully aboard this ship yet, but I think that with a few more scenes in the next book, I will be invested.

Again, The Hollis Timewire Series is perfect for fans of dystopian reads. Read the review for the first book, The Diseased Ones , in the book's page.

Thank you to the author for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Book one ended on a cliffhanger and book two picks up exactly where the previous book ended. Unknowingly, Hollis has brought great destruction to the compound. The government found their location and while most of them got out alive, over 100 people were killed, including friends. Now it is time for Hollis to atone for her crimes.

Hollis Knows that she has lost everyone she cares about. They all look at her as if she were a monster, and she can’t even blame them because she feels like a monster. On the day of her trial, Hollis is forced To listen to the council as they decide her fate. With things looking bleak Hollis begins to lose hope. However, her teacher Jonas, is willing to give her a second chance and Ultimately convinces the council to do the same. Now Hollis needs to prove to everyone and herself that she deserves to be there.

Most of the Story takes place of the 30 days Hollis has to redeem herself before coming before the council again. Although this setting doesn’t change that much, there is a lot that goes on. Naturally not all people are happy that Hollis is still alive while they are left ones are dead. She is faced with hatred and angry glances Around every corner. An attempted murder even happens, but Hollis preservers through it all.

I enjoyed the storyline of this one because I like the idea of redemption arc. Those are always my favorite types of stories. I also liked that this book focused on the little boy that took my Hollis’s powers And wanting to rescue him.

There were a few things that made me disconnect with Hollis, but this book is also YA and I am not a teenager. Because of that it was a little bit harder to connect to Hollis, but I did find myself working her more in this book than the previous one. Especially her character growth.

The authors writing is simple and quick to read. This is definitely a book that can be read in one sitting and be enjoyed. I can’t wait to see where this story is headed. It definitely has a lot of potential.

Hollis Timewire was a normal 16 year old girl living in a society that shuns emotions of any kind "The path to a perfect society is perfect obedience." When she is tested for a biomarker and found to be "diseased", her whole world implodes. Rescued from execution by a group of others with special abilities, all Hollis wants is to go home again.

However, her plan to get rid of her monstrous ability backfires. She brings about the deaths of hundreds and the loss of the safety of the compound where she and her new friends are living. "The tantalizing promise of my old life was nothing but a lie meant to find and destroy the only people who ever cared about me."

The Council calls for her execution, but her mentor, Jonah, comes to her rescue. "She bought the lie of history. It's as simple as that." Hollis is given a 30 day probationary period to prove herself to be worthy of remaining a part of the group and begins the task of providing firewood for the compound. Hollis is tormented by what she has done and is merely existing in her prison. "The rotting corpses of the departed meet me in my dreams, ready to torture me."

She slowly comes to realize that maybe she has a purpose after all. A young boy is being held by the government as a secret weapon and is being used to remove the powers of the Diseased Ones. Hollis' powers were removed by that boy and she is determined that he should be rescued from his captivity. "It's what you choose to do now that will define who you become."

As Hollis, Jonah and a select team come up with a plan to rescue the boy, Hollis is being used by the government as the face of a terror organization that is supposedly trying to overthrow Society. "I'm the leader of the second Terror War."

Hollis comes to realize that her ability was not a monster after all and that these people are her true family. "Find joy in the ability that makes you who you are, because what's in here, with these people, that's what true life is about."

This book is well-written with great characters, plenty of action, and some thought-provoking ideas that will keep the reader entertained. I would advise that you read the first book in the series before trying to read this one since it begins at the exact moment that the first book ended. If you enjoy YA books set in a dystopian society, this series is worth checking out. I look forward to seeing what happens next to Hollis Timewire and her friends.

After the hair-pulling cliff-hanger that Danielle Harrington left her readers with at the end of The Diseased Ones, I was more than eager to start the second book in the Hollis Timewire Series, The Unseen Ones.

*Attention: This review contains spoilers of the first novel, The Diseased Ones.

Plot:

The Unseen Ones opens with the aftermath of Hollis’ decision to enter the Testing Center for answers about the Diseased Ones and their history, but she loses her powers and almost her life in the process. After a miraculous escape, Hollis recognizes her egregious error as the government tracks her back to the compound and launches a merciless attack on the Diseased Ones. Now a prisoner of the Diseased Ones, Hollis faces the wrath and pain of the survivors. In an effort to redeem herself, Hollis formulates a plan to reenter the Testing Center on a rescue mission with the help of a few friends and acquaintances. However, not all goes according to plan as complications and unbelievable discoveries arise.

Review: 4.8 / 5.0

Just as in the first novel of the Hollis Timewire series, the storyline of this sequel did not disappoint. Readers instantly are thrown into the action of where the first book leaves off. I love how Danielle immediately pulls you in and keeps you hooked throughout the book–I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in one day! I sympathize with Hollis (as I couldn’t in the first novel) as she carries the unbearable weight of her mistakes: causing the compound’s ruin and being responsible for the pain and deaths of countless Diseased Ones. Though Hollis is solely responsible for the destruction, my heart breaks for her as she grieves alone.

Though Hollis’ character arc greatly improved from the first novel, I still can’t seem to connect with her completely. I don’t seem to like rash teenage characters, but that is a personal preference. That being said, Danielle did a great job unraveling the consequences of Hollis’ actions and building her character from the ground up in a realistic manner. Hollis battles with internal conflict once again, except now she’s driven to prove her worth to herself, the Diseased Ones, and all of the people she disappointed.

Overall, this book is an extremely fun read–I truly enjoy this series and praise the author for excellent writing. The Unseen Ones contains more action, conflict, character movement, and surprises than the first novel. The amount of action and PLOT TWISTS in this sequel really keeps you on your toes! My favorite element of this series is how gifted the author is at keeping the reader engaged–the writing is fast-paced, absorbing, and easily understandable. Danielle’s series is a perfect example of the importance of a strong, creative storyline and solid writing techniques. And, in full Danielle fashion, The Unseen Ones leaves readers with an edge-of-your-seat cliff-hanger once again. I am now eagerly awaiting her release of the third book in the Hollis Timewire series–The Pure Ones.

Comparables:

I find this novel comparable to the heroine and enemy dynamic in the last book of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

This book picks up exactly where the last left off. The action starts high and never gives you a rest. I could not put this book down! It was so interesting to see Hollis's world expand and to finally get answers for things that had me intrigued in "The Diseased Ones". This series is getting even better. Can't wait for the next one.

Wow! Sometimes you read a book and think, “I would love to see some character growth down the road.” I felt that way with book 1, The Diseased Ones. With The Unseen Ones, Harrington took her main character, Hollis, and knocked it out of the park. We continue where book 1 left off, and we left with a doozy.

“They accepted me without question, and I was so blinded by my past that I couldn’t see it.”

Things have changed yet again for Hollis, and she must help her friends navigate the repercussions of her actions. Everyone deserves a second chance, a chance to correct their mistakes. This book, and series, draw you in with a super fun, dystopian storyline, and characters with incredible abilities. It’s imaginative and addicting, and once you start reading, you don’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to see where we go from here. Wonderfully done!

Thank you so much to the author for sending me the 2nd installment of The Hollis Timewire Series in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the first book I was intrigued what else would be in store for us in the second book! I have to say this was a rollercoaster! Completely action packed, I always love a strong start that gets me hooked from page 1, this was definitely it! Definitely, stronger plot than the first. The evolution with regards to the character development was amazing! Here we see Hollis Timewire making adult decisions although at times they were impulsive these decisions were very much needed.

I love how Hollis has grown in this book and has definitely become more of the heroine she was supposed to be. Her childish ways stayed in book one, definitely great character development! Redemption stories aren't always successful, but the way the author put Hollis redemption together had me rooting for her. Hollis goes through so many trials in this book in order to prove herself especially now that those she considered were her friends have gone against her. I loved seeing her teenage self get through these mature situations.

This series is definitely something I would (and am going to) hand my 16 year old daughter to read. She loved the divergent series and I could compare this book to that type of read. This is definitely a book for teens that are struggling to find their voice and build character!

I was immersed into the plot, descriptions continued to be strong and the flow of the story did not disappoint. The ending was a "shook" moment for me! The cliffhanger was real, must have book 3 soon!

Thanks again to Danielle for introducing me to her world! I forgot how much I enjoyed reading books in the Dystopian Genre!

Special thank you to Danielle Harrington for allowing me an early read of this book!

The Unseen Ones is a near-4 full stars for me. In this fast-paced sequel, we get a deeper look into the world and thoughts of Hollis Timewire. Her growth in this novel is tremendous, but it doesn't stop here. Hollis clearly has a lot to learn, but this time around, she's more receptive and willing to emrbace her new way of life. She's already matured so much, and I have a feeling we're going to get to see even more of that.
No longer does she dwell on wanting to return to her emotionless home. When she does think of 'home', it's more like she's realizing how terrible it really was and she's more hurt than the betrayal of her family than anything else, which is definitely understandable.

The last five or so chapters were so intense I couldn't stop, and with the handful of twists at the end, Harrington has set the stage well for the third installment!

My only *personal* issue was some of the logistical aspects. There were areas I found myself thinking:
Why wouldn't the military infiltrate the bunker once a clear point of entry was found/formed?
Why wasn't a search launched after "the Diseased Ones" fled?
How was a secure, underground bunker affected by explosions above ground when that's exactly what a bunker is made to withstand?
The scene with the extraction of the bullet was a bit hazy. With it being in the shoulder and (fairly) easily removed, we can understand it didn't bounce around and hit any vital organs, pressure was applied, and the woman's ability was able to stop the bleeding. This made it unclear as to why the wound was lethal due to extreme blood loss, combined with the fact that everything happened so quickly and medical attention was administered almost immediately. It didn't seem like the wound was packed/dressed either.

Overall, this was a really fun, exciting read, and I loved connecting with all of the characters even more! Not only did the characters in the story grow, but it's clear Harrington's writing did as well, and I already loved the first book!

This is turning into a solid YA series! Enjoyed this one a lot more than its predecessor. You can tell that the writer has grown since the last book.

Just a few comments on the writing in the hopes that book 3 is even better:

I sometimes struggle to understand who the target audience is - from the plot it feels like it would be teenagers, but sometimes a random word used is so literary that even I (an adult) need to check the dictionary - it can feel slightly out of place. Repetitions of phrases has gone down, but ‘vice-like’ remains and it was sadly driving me up the wall. The thing with using flowery phrases to describe something as common as ‘tight’ is that I wouldn’t even blink an eye if ‘tight’ was used every other sentence, but ‘vice-like’ punches me in the face every time it appears. I’d opt for more simplicity.

Some of the characters can feel like they haven’t got much personality, especially the love interest who features heavily in this book, but I still don’t think I know anything about him other than he likes her and he can fly. He’s a bit cookie-cutter-boyish-chivalric-saviour and from the start of this book I knew he was going to forgive her for anything. It would’ve been nice to have her somehow earn his trust again after she essentially betrayed him and the people he’s known all his life.

I would also have enjoyed a bit less soppy inner monologue from Hollis but I can understand that might be because I’m a little older than the target audience, who like that kind of stuff. Still, I think there is room to show more rather than tell, especially since the author is gifted!

My favourite part was the first ‘raid’ on the facility, I actually felt glued to the page during that. Love the addition of Maddy and his and Hollis’ relationship. Halfway through this book I wasn’t sure if I’d keep reading the series but after that second half I definitely will!

Danielle has crafted such an amazing and intricate continuation to The Diseased Ones Series! Hollis has a price to pay for the actions she took and pay she does. But redemption does not come without struggle or sacrifice. The Unseens Ones is such a page turner that I read it in two sittings. When I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about reading it because I needed to know what happened. Hollis made a costly decision to have her power taken away and now she must live with it, but first she must be allowed to live.

I love that despite all the heartache she has caused Hollis tried to make it right, well as right as she can. She did inadvertently cause the deaths of many, the destruction of the underground faculty, and the exposure of The Diseased Ones who have been in hiding. While on probation in order to stay alive and prove she can be a model community member. Hollis feels like there is more that she can do, more she can offer. And she can. She thinks back to what they taught her when she first arrived, that their mission their purpose is to save those with the bio marker and powers. And Hollis knows of one person that fits that description, a little boy being used as a weapon to take powers away. He did it to her, but he deserves to be rescued, saved, just like anyone else in there community. It won’t be easy, but if Hollis and her team can pull it off they just may have a leg up in the War against the government!

This book was phenomenal! I cannot say enough good things about it. I like the new characters that Danielle introduced us to, the mystery she has spun, and the something worth fighting for she gave Hollis. And that ending is just so good! You’ll have to read to find out though. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next book!

WOW! I already knew before going into this that I was going to love it. I'm a pretty slow reader, so when I first picked up the Diseased Ones I wasn't expecting to finish it as quick as I did. The Unseen Ones was no exception. Just like the first, I read this book in one sitting. I've been so busy with classes and school in general, that this was the perfect reward. And the perfect distraction. It's so atmospheric and the characters are so real and three-dimensional. It was easy to forget everything going on around me because it was so engaging. Which is something I've really been needing during this time. I'm sure everyone else does as well.

THIS SEQUEL THOUGH. My gosh. I absolutely loved everything about The Diseased Ones. But The Unseen Ones was on a whole different level. The world was expanded on, the relationships between characters were well developed, and I could feel every emotion that Hollis felt. It was so real to me. She's so different from most YA Dystopian protagonists. Most characters in this genre already feel the need to rebel against the flawed society that they live in. Hollis Timewire was actually one of the brainwashed and force-fed lies her entire life. She does not take to the world of the diseased ones well. At the end of the first book, she makes a huge mistake that puts everything at risk. A decision that I was frustrated with at first, but I eventually realized makes her so much more real.

So when I tell you that I was an emotional wreck for this entire book, I mean it. Hollis has to deal with the aftermath of her mistake. She's responsible for not only giving away the diseased ones location, but also killing thousands of people. My heart broke for her and how hurt and betrayed her friends were when it came to her decision. The way this book shaped her character through the loss and guilt made me feel as if I were living her life. Not only is this a Dystopian world that involves characters with superpowers overthrowing a corrupt government, but it's also a story about second chances. There's so much depth, emotion, and heartfelt connections between these characters. That's what makes a book for me. I'm so in love with this series and can't wait to see what happens next.

Star: 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The ’ Unseen ones ’ was a heroine redemption story that tugs at your heartstrings especially at the beginning where it left of after the dramatic ending in the first book in a run of emotions that intrigues you to read more

What l liked most about this book was the student and teacher relationship where l thought it was very touching for an older mentor guiding a student through tougher time were others have turned there back on our main character Hollis was just heartwarming and was a great read.

Now for the part l wasn’t a fan of was towards the end were l thought jumped the gun a bit on having done a heist on the capital that it would have benefited the journey more from a smaller achievement before obtaining their goal.

Overall l was pleased with the writing, world-building and thoroughly enjoyed this book much more than the first one and would recommend this book to all who love dystopian future, mutant powers and heroine redemptions.

I was so excited to pick this book up after reading the first book, The Diseased Ones. The last book's ending was a major cliffhanger, and The Unseen Ones picked up right where it left off. Harrington brought the action and surprises right out of the gate!

I loved the change of setting and easily felt the shift in the community's morale. Harrington painted a vivid picture of the aftermath following the first book. Though I couldn't see how Hollis could ever come back from her rash decisions in book one, Harrington did a realistic job untangling everything.

There were a few characters I didn't love in the first book that I grew much fonder of in book two. We got a more in-depth look into each character this go around, and I'm happy to know them all a bit better. We met some interesting new characters as well.

The author did a great job telling a unique and creative story. I followed along easily the entire time, never getting lost or confused. Everything unfolded naturally, and I wasn't able to predict what was going to happen next.

The pacing was good, especially in the beginning and the end. There was a slight lull in the middle, as books often do right before the climax, but it was still engaging all the way through.

The ending was good! There were surprises I didn't see coming, and now I need to know what happens next. Harrington knows how to end a story and keep you chomping at the bit for more!

Thanks for your time,

Wow! Where to begin? Heart-pounding, gut-wrenching, tense and fast-paced - this book carries on from the first one and boy does it deliver. I wondered how Hollis would be able to redeem herself following the actions in book one and I was thoroughly satisfied with how it resolves itself over the course of this book. Harrington pens a well-written book that delves deep into unfamiliar emotions that Hollis must feel in all their stark glory. Going from 'Diseased' to 'Unseen' Hollis must set a huge wrong right by pulling together a band of allies to go on her most dangerous quest yet! But does it all go to plan? - I urge you to read it to find out. You won't be disappointed, I certainly wasn't. Bring on book three!

I was given an ARC by the author in an exchange for an unbiased review.

WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THE UNSEEN ONES???? Hollis is back, and she doesn't disappoint! The Unseen Ones starts off right where The Diseased Ones ended. Did you all read it? I thoroughly enjoyed the Unseen Ones. Hollis has to deal with her choices and their consequences. Danielle's writing also doesn't disappoint. You can tell that her writing is even better in these pages. Hollis' character development was well written. The plot is spectacular. The words flew off the pages. I finished book 2 in less than two days. My heart was pounding the entire time. I truly felt like I was on my toes the entire time, wanting to know what was going to happen. I highly recommend book 2!

Don't miss out!

That cliffhanger from book one… is right where we start book two. It feels like an ending of an episode and starting the next. The unseen ones didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the sequel and Hollis definitely grew on me more in this book.

Hollis struggles hard in this book with her choices that she made in book one. The loneliness and emptiness is conveyed very well by the author as we are no longer surrounded by people to support. There were many casualties from the government attack that Hollis unknowingly brought upon the diseased ones and these deaths haunt Hollis. Her over coming and character growth from her actions through this book definitely allow you to connect to her more and enjoy her as a MC.

Like book one, the writing is fast paced and keeps you interested. It ends once more on a huge cliffhanger but the overall emotions of the book prepared you for such. I definitely need to know what happens next.

I really enjoy Jonah in this book and his fatherly bond with Hollis. This book gave me major Hunger Game feels and that’s totally okay. It has touched of all the huge YA dystopian reads that we love and it makes it more enjoyable.

I'd been behind on reading for a while but when I got my hands on a copy of Book Two, I had to begin this series right away. This book was just too good not to put down. I binged the first two books in one night and now I've realized I've got a long way to go for another. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It's got a touch of familiarity of a plot, but it has its own spin on this world that is just amazing to follow along with. If you love books about possible futures mixed with supernatural abilities, this is perfect. You won't regret it.

This second entry in Harrington's Hollis Timewire series brings a heavy focus on character, personal growth, and accountability. Hollis is a completely different person from the one we met in TDO, and it's a refreshing take. She's less snippy to those around her, she is much more aware of her actions, and is genuinely trying her best to be a better person. Probably the highlight of this novel is her relationship with Jonah in the classic mentor/mentee style.

Unfortunately, in my personal/professional opinion, this book didn't strike me as well as the first. TUO feels more like an extended third act that we should've gotten in Book 1; it feels both too long and too short at times. I don't have the benefit of hindsight when it comes to the next two entries, but I feel like TUO missed a great opportunity to worldbuild. By the end of this book there was still so much I didn't understand about the government, the Diseased Ones, and society in general.

We're also missing a lot of the sci-fi dystopian aesthetic the series is marketed upon. We spend most of the book in the woods with Hollis chopping wood for several chapters... Chopping wood, Danielle! lol

Despite my personal grievances, I understand why other readers enjoy this entry. Just for me, I expect a LOT from a series' second entry. That said, I still plan on continuing into Books 3 and 4.
