Behind Those Dark Eyes

Rate this book
My thoughts keep talking and I talk back. I listen too much. Too hard. Then I counter act just to fit in. But behind gritted teeth, I plaster on a smile. I regain composure and the thoughts subside. And that's not even half of what's behind those dark eyes.

Dive into this ocean of deep and raw poetry. A captivating collection of works written to capture the most intimate parts of the human psyche. Authentically written and intricately crafted from behind the dark eyes of the writer, this compilation presents a taste of the melanated, female experience. Though unpopular and at times, politically incorrect, this collection comprises of ideas that challenge the mind, the body and the soul and works to explore the unequivocal and explicit truths behind family, friends, sex and relationships. If you’ve been wounded by the harsh realities of life, there’s bound to be a poem for you. If you've loved and want to be loved the right way, it's time to explore the sapiosexual in you. This collection is for all those who’ve suffered and been left with battle scars; and for all those yearning to re-ignite the dying spark that’s faintly glowing inside; know that you are not alone.

D.J.Walters is a young, refreshing author’s voice who was born and raised in South London, England. Studying at both City University and Goldsmiths University, she has achieved qualifications in Sociology, Criminology and Education. Her studies have helped her develop an intricate understanding of people, behaviour, motives and the way that we learn. As a young child, Walters always showed a strong interest in the performing arts and poetry. And her work as a teacher re-ignited her passion for performances and creative writing that had the ability to capture the audience’s attention. Walters holds a strong belief in the power behind words. When they are used wisely, she believes words can excite, inspire and enable anyone to get whatever they desire in life.

This was an amazing, insightful and therapeutic read. I found many poems that spoke of raw experiences that we can all relate to as women and men and definitely felt like I was inside the authors mind at all times, privy to some of her deepest, darkest and honest thoughts.

D.J. Walters’ Behind Those Dark Eyes is a brilliant collection! It consists of 100 poems in five sections that explore the elements of human existence. It runs the gamut of the human experience allowing the reader to examine what lurks behind those dark eyes through poetry. She’s built a collection that feels luxe and rich; it explores the ways that life happens to us and how we respond. Walters has created a bubble that allows you to feel everything that she’s poured into these poems.
What the poet does here, is transport the reader and allows them to sink into the emotions that lurk in these poems. Pieces such as “Is Education the Key to Success?”, “Soul Mates”, “Heartbreak”, and “Coleby Path” resonate and make you want to linger a bit longer between the pages. I am new to D.J. Walters writing but as someone who loves poetry I am driven to read more of her work. Do yourself a favor and add this one to your shelves.

Wow... What a collection. I've never read poetry that rings so true and resonates deeply within. The Author invites you into 'Behind Those Dark Eyes' and takes you on a journey through the highs and lows of life and realities that we are faced with. It's bittersweet but leaves you with a sense of deeper understanding and acceptance of situations. My absolute favourite is 'Underwater' and 'Sapiosexual' This one comes highly recommended.

Such an enticing book of poetry. Every poem was thought provoking and descriptive. As I read each one I had to take a moment to digest the words and feelings that ran through my mind and body. My favorite is Sapiosexual. I keep reading that one over and over. I just want the D is hot too. Behind Those Dark Eyes is seductive, educational and real.

Behind those dark eyes is a beautiful collection of poems. I enjoyed reading the novel trilogy by D J Walters and was intrigued to read these poems, I was not disappointed! I feel like i got a chance to dive deeper into her mind and connect on a different level, Many of her poems brought me feelings of nostalgia. The poems are raw, real and relatable & there is definitely something for everyone.

Behind Those Dark Eyes evokes a rollercoaster of emotions as well as deep rooted memories, both good and bad. It’s definitely a MUST read. If you see beyond black and white, you’ll DEFINITELY get lost in it and end up in a whole new world, outside of the pages! I certainly did.

My favourite poem, probably more so because it was completely relatable, was ‘Sisterly Love’. When the book is published, I’ll definitely be sharing it with my sister to have a read.

I usually read poetry books within a day or two but this poetry had so much emotion and depth to it that I had to spread it out. This book has made a huge impact on me and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
