★ Do you ever wonder, “Where is God” when going through challenging times? Does He seem distant, or even non-existent? What is the biggest crisis you are experiencing right now? ★ We are currently living in extraordinary times, causing much anxiety even for the strongest temperament. There are many reasons individuals experience fear, anxiety, and even depression, and our world seems to be growing more and more fearful every day. If we ever lived in an uncertain time with an unclear future and reason to fear it is now. ★ If you are experiencing any form of anxiety, fear, depression, uncertainty, or dread, please realize that you are not alone. This is a normal phenomenon that everyone experiences, to some extent, at some point in their life. ★ Fear is a natural response for humans and has its place to help keep us safe. However, living in fear is counter-productive and is not an option if we are going to get through any difficult circumstances. We cannot allow ourselves to get stuck there and dwell on these negative issues. ★ Believe it or not, there is a way to experience peace in the midst of all of this and that is what I will be unpacking in this book. We have many choices in life. Every day we’re making more choices than we realize. Peace is another choice that we can make over fear and anxiety. It takes recognizing where our mind is going and living with the intention to make a U-turn and choosing peace. ★ In this book, I will be taking a hard look at fear, anxiety, and depression. I define them, discussing the symptoms and causes of each, and how to overcome them. One cannot read this book without being changed from the inside out if the shared truths are taken seriously, acted upon, and allowed to permeate and become a reality in the reader’s heart and mind. ★ Unfortunately, not knowing how to respond often causes one to react to their depression, anxieties, fears, etc. in ways that promote more of the same. Some are plagued a lot more than others, and some have learned to cope better than others, but there is relief for all of us if we know where to look for it. That is what I hope to accomplish through this short booklet. ★ It is a quick, easy read and well worth your time. I have learned the antidote to the fear and uncertainty that often leads to anxiety and depression. This book offers very caring and compassionate help for those experiencing adversity in their lives. The book provides definitions for various struggles readers may be facing such as adversity, discouragement, fear, depression and anxiety. It offers very clear explanations for many Bible verses and a list of Bible promises that are intended to bring comfort and hope to readers. The author provides helpful examples from her own life to encourage others. I highly recommend this book!
What a fabulous learning tool and testimony There is so much in this small book to help is understand where we are andhow to get where we need to be with God as our leader. This author doesn’t point fingers, doesn’t specifically tell you you are wrong. She gently points out wrongs that maybe happening and then points us on the right direction with scripture and explaining. I will be looking for more of her work!
I absolutely loved this book. Very inspiring. It made me look at my life differently. While building my relationship with God I was also able to identify what was causing me to feel emptiness or unsettled. I plan to reread this book and purchase her others. I recommend it to anyone who feel lost, uneasy, confused, depressed or even feel like giving up on life.
This book was very helpful and encouraging to me during a difficult time. Great reminder that God is with us and working for us even when we don't always feel it.
All of us have gone through suffering from some anxiety, depression, or fear at one time or another. Whether it be from a loss of income, taking a big test, going for a promotion, etc., we've suffered from it.
As usual, those of us who are believers in the Lord have, and knowing He's also called the Great Physician, His answer to any situation we might have His book close at hand, in the Bible. In perusing it, we find the most significant information regarding worrying about our lives as Christians in MATTHEW 6:25-34 [NKJV]
[25] Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? [26] Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? [27] Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? [28] "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; [29] and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. [30] Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? [31] Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' [32] For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. [33] But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. [34] Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
As with anything else we desire as Christians, we know we're able to pray to our Lord to obtain it; we even get told about us being anxious in PHILIPPIANS 4:6 [NKJV]:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;"
Naturally, all of this requires us to believe in the Lord's plan for each one of us and us to be willing to put our trust in Him. We need to remember that PROVERBS 3:5-6 [NKJV] reminds us of the following:
[5] "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
As you can probably tell from the above that I have a passion for sharing the words of the Lord with others regarding how the Lord, the Great Physician, is there to help those who come to Him whenever and whatever they're facing. This is what the author, Debby Sibert, is communicating through the pages of her book.
While the intent of this book has been written for Christians, it is also a wondrous reading experience for non-Christians as well, which is what Ms. Sibert is telling these individuals. Through the His love, the Lord has open arms to all those who come to Him in their suffering. Ms. Sibert systematically starts by providing definitions of adversity, anxiety, depression, discouragement, and fear are; incorporating related stories and Scripture.
With this as a basis for the rest of her book, the author then tells her readers about the plans He possesses for them and how they can deal with things such as anxiety and fear. She advises her reader, especially, those who are non-Christian, that we're never alone with the Lord's presence in our lives. Despite what is around us, Ms. Sibert provides thorough Scriptural-based advice and suggestions on working around these things. Being the Christian woman I am, I believe the Scripture she offers will reverberate with individuals like myself who know their Bible and provide reassurances of the Lord always being there for those that don't.
Given the voracious reviewer of Christian books that I am, I'm glad to give Ms. Sibert the 5 STARS she so richly deserves for her endeavor here.
Insightful and Encouraging Did you know that more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression? Christians are no exception, and this mental disorder can affect our lives more than we think. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, or fear, Debby Sibert has written a book that can help you.
God's Antidote For Depression, Anxiety, or Fear: Learn How To Experience Peace and Joy During Adversity and Uncertain Times is insightful and encouraging. Written during the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, the author gives practical, biblical insights to overcome adversity. The book is enlightening and teaches, “permanent change will only occur when you find solace in the Scriptures. Only the Word of God will give you His wisdom, guidance, and strength to persevere.”
The writing style is easy to read, and the book includes meaningful stories that relate to readers. One of the most powerful is when the author shares about losing a friend to suicide. You can appreciate the author's honesty and vulnerability in sharing her struggle.
I highly recommend this book. It provides encouraging words of wisdom to help with adversity. You will appreciate it as a great read and study.
This is an excellent book to read to encourage us to look to God for our source of love, hope, peace and strength. Perfect love casts out all fear. As a firm believer in God, I found this book to be extremely worthwhile and uplifting, through explaining all the causes of fear and anxiety and how to overcome them with God's guidance and help. Filled with wisdom and relevant Bible verses to lead us to pray and lean on God and not on our own strength. We cannot do it without Him. Highly recommended!
Well written book to help you navigate those difficult times. Biblical writings are referenced to draw from to help during tough tests in life. I found it best to read through twice to contemplate lessons. Good work.
Non-medical, Christian mental health advice for everyone
KindleUnlimited review. Fear is natural but how people emotionally react to it can have negative impacts. Instability in life and especially during troubled times causes anxiety in many people. Depression can be physical, psychological, or spiritual. Mental depression can metastasize into physical ailments and vice versa. Debby Sibert offers some spiritual advice using Christian scriptures from her personal experience with her friend’s suicide, her mother’s dementia, and her husband’s head trauma. Avoid isolation. Share your struggles. Help others. Don’t dwell on negative future events that have not occurred. Have faith in God. Believe your life has purpose.
According to the author, her book is not medical advice for clinical depression but rather biblical tips to help restore “hope to the hopeless”. Putting one’s faith in a omnipotent and omnipresent God allows people to stop seeing adversity as the enemy but instead a catalyst for positive change. Non-religious can benefit from existential perspective leading to “inner sense of peace, joy, and… contentment”. Altering one’s point of view from internal to external can transform uncertainty into opportunity. Embracing change as a gift from a benevolent God can reduce anxiety and fear. For example, Romans 5:3-5 the Apostle Paul wrote “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
This book contains non-biblical quotations and anecdotes as well. This book is not an overt evangelical pamphlet to convert the Gentiles (although that result would please the author) but a personal account of how the author’s faith in God reduced her anxiety and fear. Seeing beyond yourself is a useful technique to maintain mental health for atheists, agnostics, an undecided, or any religious adherents. As the author states “find more things you are grateful for until you develop an overall attitude of gratitude” which can transform pessimism into optimism. Thankfulness and anxiety are inversely related where an increase in one decreases the other.
How often do you cry out to God when you need help?
When you feel like you can’t handle life’s adversities, God wants us to cry out to Him. Even King David and Jesus cried out to God when they needed Him because life became unbearable. God will give you the strength to persevere because nothing is impossible for our all-powerful God. We will become stronger when we overcome our adversities because God never wastes using hardship for our good. He always has a purpose in everything He allows.
When I lost my son to a murderer’s bullet, I felt like I couldn’t go on. I was very depressed and lost all hope I had. But God didn’t let me down when I poured my heart out to Him. Even though I was afraid, He gave me strength and peace to face the murderer at the sentencing. So if you don’t believe it’s possible, put Him to the test. He will not let you down.
This book is an inspiration to anyone struggling with lost hope, fear, anxiety, or depression. You will learn to appropriately respond and cope with your problems when you open your heart and ask God for help. The more you surrender, the more Christ-like you will become, which is the goal of life. If you follow the author’s advice about the wisdom she has gained from her own experiences, God will change you like you never imagined. Don’t miss this encouraging read. Sibert does it again! This is the third book I’ve read from her and I really do want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with her and talk about life as “if” we’re close friends, because that’s how I feel while I’m reading her works.
This particular book is a raw and honest piece. I appreciate that Sibert doesn’t overstep her boundaries. She breaks down depression into three buckets: physical, psychological, and spiritual. She doesn’t deny that some depression (psychological) requires professional help and she encourages it.
The book reads from a biblical perspective and is comforting to me who relates to the many topics each chapter unpacks. It’s relatable and comforting to be reminded that no matter what, God is in control. Isaiah 41:10 (my favorite verse in all scripture)
the ending of the book especially takes the cake with additional resources/scripture to help calm your heart and refocus.
Most impactful to me was the story of a tragic fall that should've been fatal and the miracle that brought about restoration. Although this was one physical example, the book walks through the allegory of the spiritual falling and recovery as well. The source of all healing is underscored as God, through Christ His son, and the plans God has for us. For new Christians, this guide would be a great way to comprehend and fortify faith. For the long-term believer, an important reminder of the journey we've travelled as well as the travel ahead. For those who do not know God, a walk through the reasons for belief and benefits of redemption. Psalms are given clarity, and Paul's messages are applied to life today. This isn't a "self help" book, but a "God helps" book, which guarantees eternal success through Jesus.
I love to read stories of hope, which I think is the best therapy for our hearts. I appreciate the purpose behind, it since we are living in a world that is overcoming war, the constant fight against normalized pedophile behavior, intrafamilial violence, and the list goes on. The first powerful message here is… pray, sometimes the answer to your prayers may not come in the form of your expectations, but interests are always at the expense of your heart. Second, don't stress yourself with early scenarios, and don't waste energy, as things may happen or may not. Debby Sibert mentioned his husband as a living miracle, after a big injury he walked out of a hospital that gave him “paralyzed” as the best diagnosis. “God’s Antidote for Depression, Anxiety or Fear” comes with a sweet touch of hope for all of us.
In this quick read, Debby Sibert compassionately deals with the struggles all humans face throughout our lives in dealing with depression, anxiety or fear. The negative thoughts and mindsets which we allow to take up space in our heads undoubtedly affect the way we look at and resolve issues. This negativity can be replaced with truth and hope, however! The author clearly outlines and discusses Biblical verses and principles to meditate on and give us healthier, godly outlooks as we trust in God’s Word.
In summary, there are no quick, trendy “fixes”! Instead, this book offers encouragement and specific guidance in cultivating an overall lifestyle of faith in God’s promises.
"God’s Antidote for Depression, Anxiety, and Fear" by Debby Sibert is a valuable resource for anyone seeking a faith-based approach to managing mental health challenges. Its blend of personal anecdotes, biblical wisdom, and practical advice provides a comprehensive guide for readers looking to find peace and joy amid adversity.
My favorite quote from the book: “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” I also appreciated the explanation of Psalm 23. I never heard this explanation before and found it extremely enlightening.
Overall, this book is a testament to the power of faith in navigating life's difficulties. It offers readers a path to spiritual and emotional healing.
In this book, the author explores the choice of finding peace amidst life's challenges and discusses the importance of recognizing and choosing peace over fear and anxiety. The book delves into fear, anxiety, and depression, defining them, and offers insights on overcoming these challenges, emphasizing that the application of shared truths can lead to profound personal transformation.
I suffer from anxiety, depression and PTSD. I used devotionals to help get me through a lot of it. I agree with the author on most of her stance, but believe that people with mental disorders need to also seek help from a therapist. God puts these people here to help his lost. I do love the authors focus on the Psalms.
As someone who struggles with anxiety, I found this book by Debby Sibert to be a great help! It's a great guide for those who are struggling and provides helpful tips based on biblical principles. I would highly recommend anyone struggling with any of these symptoms to purchase this book in an effort to experience peace and joy during adversity.
