This is definitely sexy yet hysterically funny, starts chaste and pure but then a certain growing gong develops intense feelings for our Ling Xiao. It's not easy being a cannon fodder/mob character, they just don't have luck and it's so so funny 😂😂👍
That being said it's pretty dark too, with lots of death, getting hurt, blood, kidnapping, etc. Thankfully it does not bank on rape nor any such cliches. Chinese novels are definitely a huge breath of fresh air that I'm smitten with now. And low-key want to learn Chinese so I don't have to wait for translations TT (though by the time I would have finished learning Chinese it'd be like 5 years later and by then all these would have finished... hopefully).
Chinese writers are skillful, funny, and I dare say are much better than Japanese or Korean ones. If there's one thing Chinese have going for them is that they have raised NO WEAK BITCHES. Seriously, a lot of their plots stem around revenge, plotting, scheming, etc, and I love it! Be they females or shou's, they're not weak. They may weak physically, but EMOTIONALLY they're strong and determined. It's refreshing and I'm here for it~
That being said vol 1 and 2 are really good, but volume 3... Was a letdown in terms of plot and events :/
Plot: Guy transmigrates into a novel where the villain eventually destroys the world, and decides to solve this by being really nice to the villain so he'd be less of an edgelord.
1. Oh boy was this a trial to get through. The author was way more interested in exploring scenes of sexual intimacy between the characters than they were in the overall plot. Said scenes were fun the first couple of times, but very quickly got repetitive because nothing really changes between one scene and the next. Ling Xia is absolutely convinced he's straight and frankly my man- I realize this is something of a staple in danmei but you take it to fucking ridiculous extremes. The Love Interest Villain has one (1) character trait and that is really wanting to bone LX. People occassionally get random power-ups, but whatever worldbuilding comes up is quickly abandoned in favor of more sexual tension between the leads.
2. The first couple of volumes were mostly fun, because there was more worldbuilding and relatively little sexual tension. I have a huge soft spot for stories where middling-power characters (like Ling Xia) carve out a life of competence for themselves using their wits, elbow grease and conveniently placed mentors and helpers. I also got very fond of Red Spider Girl who is the best character in this whole book (not counting the magic beast companions who are universally excellent) fight me.
3. The third volume was mostly the Villain Love Interest forcibly pursuing LX when he's in a pretty shitty situation and can't defend himself. I can give this a pass if it's one scene in a whole book but not if it's a whole fucking volume. A lot of noise is made about how much (*sighs, checks name*) Yu ZhiYue loves him so much he would die and go on a world ending spree without him yadda yadda yadda but honestly I'm not that convinced because Volume three onwards every single scene involving them is about sex and *looks at allosexuals* y'all live like this? And Volume 4 somehow gets worse because even though there is more worldbuilding and survival (YAY!) there's also some distinctly "dubcon but not really because Ling Xia was actually into it" shit which- uh. Pass. I realize this is another danmei staple but it works better if I'm actually invested in the ship and not wishing it would go die in a fire so I can get back to the worldbuilding.
4. I don't even know what the fuck that ending was because what the fuck. The Cliche but okay it can be done well and I want to see what gets gone with it. The The Fuck? Where did that come from and boy was I glad the story ended at that point because I was in DNF territory yo~
5. I'm giving this 2 stars for the survival/worldbuilding bits and how it had me interested in the ship for a whole two volumes before shit hit the fan and rained down on my investment.
Ling Xia's favourite novel ends in a dissatisfying manner - the villain destroys the world and only a handful of people from the protagonist's heroic group survive. When he wakes up to find himself in the novel's prologue with the 10-years-old villain and hero, occupying the body of an unnamed disposable ("mob") character a few years older than them, Ling Xia resolves to guide them to better endings: prevent the villain from going dark, ensure the boys remain strong friends, and teach the hero to settle down with one girl rather than gathering a harem of half a dozen girls.
Beautiful story with lots of humour and amazing characters. This 'novel' is actually 4 novels, 3 of which have been translated by various groups. I'm incredibly saddened that the initial translator stopped after vol1 due to a multitude of thefts of their work, as their quality was incredibly high. They provided summaries of vol2 that were better (and made more sense) than full translations by another person. And vol3 was translated by yet a third person/group, whose translation wasn't quite up to par, swapped formatting often, and also had their own notes/comments throughout the chapters rather than waiting until the end of a chapter.
That being said, the story outweighs translator issues, so I would love if even the vol3 translator picked up vol4. As long as I get to read the end!
(Would be rated higher if not for the translator issues and inability to read it all in the one place.)
Nice book! Especially liked the transmigration ending! It was so surprising and emotional! But I liked the first book/part better :) It was more touching. adorable, heartwarming and heartbreaking. Which is understandable because is the book/part that lies the foundation of the relationship between the MC and ML. I didn't mind at all that there were not smut parts. I love it. Totally loved the slowly born precious affection between Ling Xian and Yu Zhiyue. I've liked for this part to last the double or triple. If the rest of the book/parts had been like the first one, I'd have loved it even more!
A nice story, but I wish it were longer and developed the main character's grey morals more. At one point, I was a bit bored with the sex scenes: there were too many at once!! Please don't forget the plot!!!
I feel like the issue here was really with the translations of vol. 3 and 4 rather than with the work itself. The story is equal parts funny, sweet and tragic but the translations of the last two volumes are subpar at best.
Another one of those novels that i forgot even existed!
I've read it two years ago at this point, and i vaguely remember actually liking it. Also, i finished it, which is always a good sign.
It consists of four volumes, but they are... unequal? I liked books 2 and 3 much more. It's one of those rare cases where begining and end are meh, but the middle part is weirdly good. I think it's the opposite most of the time?
Book 1. Three stars, maybe? I remember it being kinda boring. Something kept me reading though. Maybe the scenes where mc was physically suffering / being close to death etc. I liked graphic content at the time.
Book 2. Four stars. A lot of angst and yearning. The most tender and beautiful part of the novel, i think. The age difference slightly disturbed me though.
Book 3. Four stars. I think it's my favourite in the series (but i guess it's a controversial opinion). Well, the sex scenes were rape-y and repetitive (i liked graphic content at the time, but even i got bored). The ending however saved the volume for me, so much hopelessness, ugh, i cried.
Book 4. One star. Why did it need another volume? It was so pointless and dumb. I finished it just because i wasn't allowing myself to drop anything. Yes, even if i was reading non consensual repetitive porn fanfiction. I wish the story ended at book 3.
In overall i did like it a lot and do recommend it. However... Part 3-4 translation was much worse than part 1-2. Not only had it a lot of grammatical and stylistic mistakes but it also felt less smooth and there was a moment when i thought it is better drop it than suffer. But then i got used to it. Better this than nothing. So thanks to all translators who contributed
4/5 stars. I truly loved the first two volumes. They had such a lovely mix of budding romance and not-romance (like world events or the introduction of other characters), and that's what really hooked me from beginning to end. When the third volume started, I felt that the author lost the world elements they had set up throughout the first two volumes, and gave up on it. I would have loved to see more of the MC cultivating or refining equipment, but that never happened so it's a little disappointing. Despite that, the romance was full force and took up really the rest of the story.
Volume four was the worst (of the four volumes) in my opinion. The ML acted OOC in trying to get the MC to fall back in love with him. Throughout the story he'd always been cool, calm, and collected, but he acted like none of that was true as he tried to woo the MC into falling in love with him. I get that he's a yandere character, but he's also quick-witted and intelligent (from what I saw). Him sexually harassing the MC and raping him seemed very out of character. Not to mention, his act as "Ling Jue" wasn't great, and wasn't very genuine.
The whole "amnesia" arc was also unnecessary, because I feel like it didn't have any impact at all. It would have been better if the author cut that out and scrapped the fourth volume entirely, either leaving it at the MC dying or having an extra explain how they came together again. But that's just my opinion.
Regardless, I loved the story and the character. It deserves 4/5 stars because it's not perfect, but I can see how much effort the author put in. Thank you for such a great story!

Pretty fun, although the relationship never quite got to the point where Ling Xia 1) acknowledged that he's not straight, or 2) convinced me he actually wanted to be in the relationship, except for a while in the middle (and the end, but there was a chunk in the middle where the ML got rapey again). I liked the worldbuilding, and the characters too, until Yu Zhujue started up with the rapey-ness. Skip this story if you want to read about a safe, sane, and consensual relationship. Also, despite having literal super strength, Ling Xia is somehow physically weaker than Yu Zhujue, who doesn't. The sex scenes are also not particularly sexy.
The story flowed well though, which made up for a lot - I actually liked it quite a bit, but now that I'm reviewing, a lot of things that didn't with very well are popping up. So... *shrug emoji*
it was fairly entertaining for the first two volumes but volume 3 was just bad. seemed like the author just wanted to write smut and didnt think of a plot beforehand. like the mc is always curious and needs to know whats going on but suddenly he’s lovestruck and doesnt care to ask what happened after he was in a coma for FOUR YEARS until months later???
also before the beginning of each volume he dies and its SO ANNOYING. he gets all these levels in cultivating but constantly goes back to square one. its mentioned a-lot how hes so strong but hes so weak the next second. hes strong minded but he’s like a maiden the next moment?? i liked the ml in the first two volumes but he was borderline rap3y and i wasn’t having it. idk the main character was likable though. he was smart and wanting to get stronger, shame the plot beats his ass.

The first volume was an easy 4.5 stars. But after that... it just went downhill. Second was alright and then the third came and oh boy. It just turned into a cluster fuck of a mess.
The beginning of volume four was alright and I was actually excited. And then the fucking ML comes in and does his bullshit, and all of my excitement just went out of the fucking window.
Like bro... what the fuck man. Why you gotta do this to me?
One of my favourites scene was in volume four though. When MC was beating ML’s ass, because he honestly fucking deserved that one.
I do have some legitimate complaints though.
- What happened to the “masked master” side plot? - The way MC got his memories back was a bullshit excuse, and you can’t fight me about it.

Dnf'd in volume 3 because I'm just done. Vol 1 was fun though literally none of the characters really acted their age except the original protagonist. Vol 2 is where my difficulties with this story started because the ML is somewhere around 14-15 and the MC is 19-20. The ML starts doing a hella lot of dubcon and noncon shit, which eventually culminates in him literally threatening/attempting to murder him to force the MC to be romantically involved with him. Then in vol 3, both of our characters are finally adults and our steel straight MC agrees to be in a relationship with the ML and they have sex. The MC is in literal pain and bleeding for most of it and it just isn't fun. I'm disappointed and over trying to force myself through this. It's not worth it.
Might downgrade to two stars because of how shitty the last two Volumes were. For now, since It was an enjoyable read (altough slightly repetitive) I'll leave at three. I don't really mind a smutty volume what I do mind is the miscommunication trope and the deus-ex amnesia trope, besides the characters were.. underdeveloped? One dimensional? -not sure how to word it- And the MC went really ooc towards the end... Really weird. Conclusion: unsure. Might need to reread or ponder for a little while.

It's been a long time since I've read this but the novel suddenly popped up in my head. I remember the beginning being promising. I enjoyed the fight scenes and the whole dynamic of the ML having memories from his past life and his turmoil on whether he should trust the MC or not, but after the timeskip the ML's character completely changes and the plot devolves into constant smut scenes which made me drop it since the change was too much.
a decent read, i guess?compared to Every Day The Protagonist Wants to Capture Me, i certainly liked this one far better and it didn't really get boring nor too convoluted for my taste. .
Aside from the main character's internalised homophobia and the extremely dubious consent involved within the more erotic scenes, this was a very fun read. A lot of people have mentioned that it all goes downhill halfway through the book but I enjoyed the twists and turns personally.
This is a strong 4 star read.
Sidenote: I don't think I can ever look at a white radish the same again.
I went into this novel not expecting a lot, but I was actually surprised to catch myself enjoying it. While it is not the best in the “transmigration” genre, it was not the worst either. I actually liked the main characters, as well as the story but this review comes a long time after my read so I will probably have to read it again to update this review.
[SPOILERS AND RANT] . . . . . . . . . . I CAN'T BELIEVE THE MC DIED THREE TIMES, AUTHOR NIM DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TEARS I CRIED, AM I A JOKE TO YOU. Thank god at least there was Happy Ending otherwise I would have rioted

Fcking stop at extra 9 and you'll be fine. Tbh, the more i read, the more i want to give 1.5-2 stars but i did enjoy the 1st and 2nd volume.. 🥴 3 and 4 quite good but feels like author getting lazier and just want it to end faster. Extra is meh. For real.
