As the greatest army ever assembled in the seven islands flies to the land of the dragons, everyone’s mind is haunted by the same thought: Thisbe Stowe betrayed them all.
Thisbe struggles to regain the trust of her brother Aaron and the people of Artimé after one crucial mistake forces her to abandon her intricate plan against the Revinir. Aaron is devastated by Thisbe’s actions and refuses to hear her explanation, feeling a sense of responsibility for the wrong she’s done mixed with his own deep regret and fears over his dark history. Complicating things are Thisbe’s conflicted feelings about the Revinir, leaving her wondering if she allowed herself to get too close to the dragon-woman… and if she really is more evil than good after all.
Risking everything they’d fought for since first being declared Unwanted, the people, creatures, and statues of Artimé and their allies make a final desperate attempt to take down the Revinir and bring peace to their world. But is the Revinir too powerful to defeat?
And... will the Artiméans ever find out what’s behind that last secret door?
Lisa McMann lives and writes in the Phoenix area. Her newest middle grade fantasy series is called The Forgotten Five. Book one, Map of Flames, was an instant NYT bestseller. It's about five supernatural kids, raised in a deserted hideout, who enter civilization for the first time to search for a hidden stash left behind by their missing, criminal parents.
Book two, The Invisible Spy, is on sale now! Book three, Rebel Undercover, is coming summer 2023, and book 4 will be out in spring of 2024.
Also out now: CLARICE THE BRAVE. It's a story of hope against all odds, about sibling mice who get separated in a mutiny and vow to find one another again.
Lisa's other books include the NYT bestselling THE UNWANTEDS and UNWANTEDS QUESTS series, the GOING WILD trilogy, the YA paranormal WAKE trilogy, the VISIONS trilogy, CRYER'S CROSS, DEAD TO YOU, and INFINITY RING: The Trap Door.
I’m taking deep breaths right now as I wipe my tears away. I hope Lisa is proud of herself for making me sob my eyes out harder than I ever have before with a book.
So through the series there has been a lot of gripes. A lot of downfalls and criticism that is valid and mistakes made. But at the end of the day, I’m so thankful I read this series. I’m thankful I read the Unwanteds books, and I’m thankful that I read Quests despite the flaws.
I started reading these books when I was 14. These characters and Artime made me feel at home when I was so uncertain in my teenage years. Now I’m 20, closing this final book Dragon Fury, and I am so happy I got to love this story.
This is one of my favorite book series of all time and will always be. It helped me when I felt so alone. These books taught me to be creative and to never give up on your dreams. I’m so thankful for all the people I’ve met through these books. While the ending is bittersweet since I’ve been in the fandom for around 7 years now, I know that this was the ending we were meant to have. OK TIME FOR SPOILERS!!
THE EPILOGUE ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED ME! LIKE MORE THAN CLOCKWORK PRINCESS BY CASSANDRA CLARE DESTROYED ME. My favorite character was Liam Healy, and my sobbing escalated every time I read his name or he spoke. Him and Claire playing chess was the clarification I needed to be able to live after I finished the book. Just the whole afterlife stuff made this a 5 star. Like, how could I NOT rate this 5 stars when it is the book that made me sob the hardest I’ve ever sobbed over a book in my life. Meghan having the last words was absolutely breathtaking and is going to make me have a book hangover for the rest of January.
In my past thoughts I was like “Aaron needs to kill the Revinir or Thisbe” but leaning more towards Aaron after she killed Alex and Ishibashi. BUT SPIKE BEING THE ONE TO DO THE FINAL BLOW WAS AMAZING AND I LOVED IT!! Spike killing her was the ending we didn’t expect but know we absolutely deserved. 10/10, love Spike so much.
Fifer and Dev I lowkey love now.... I know there’s a bunch of controversy with them since Fifer was ace coded it sounded like at first, but reading into the context it sounds like she’s demisexual more, and I don’t want to invalidate the demisexual’s out there since they are so valid too. I think it was a mistake Lisa made that made it sound like Fifer was ace or on the spectrum. It was a bad mistake, but we need to remember that people’s sexualities and gender identity change overtime as they discover themselves and that’s perfectly okay too. Fifer was young, and a lot of young people jump between identities since they aren’t exactly sure who they are or who they like or don’t like yet. Fifer and Dev were fine in the end for me.
Thisbe and Rohan were still eh for me but I knew they were going to be a thing so I dropped it. Like whatever— I think Lisa needed to outline the black eyed line beyond the two families for less confusion. I honestly think that was a mistake on Lisa’s part that she didn’t mean to make with the weirdness between the two.
Is this series perfect? No, it’s not. I will admit the Unwanteds is a better series overall if I’m being honest. But I think the Revinir was the best villain we saw, and that was worth reading the new series for. I am in awe at Lisa for coming up with this new and cool world she came up with in this series. I love her creativity, and she’s such an inspiration for me.
So, as I wrap up this long review (honestly it’s too long but my love for the series is so big), I just want to thank Lisa personally. I know she’ll probably never read this, but she is the reason I strongly want to be an author someday. She has helped me out more than I can express, and every interaction with her makes my day. Her writing found me when I needed it... And I want someone else to be found with my writing in the future.
I’d like to thank all the friends I’ve made along the way too! Thanks to the original Breakfast Club group chat in 2016 (nobody knows what that means but I do and the people who were in the chat know. Without the og fandom members the fandom probably wouldn’t be as big as it is now). The Unwanteds app people I’d like to thank too. A lot of you are rad over there and chill. Carry on the fandom strong! Thank you Elias for making the app as cool as it is. And all you app leaders do a lot of work as well that I don’t want to gloss over. Join the Unwanteds app if you’re over the age of 13 for sure.
I don’t know where my journey will take me next, but I know that when I become a teacher (hopefully) I’ll fight to put these books in the curriculum somehow or fight to get my future middle school students to read these. I’ll read these books to my future kids if I have them. All I know is that I’ll forever be Unwanted.
Thank you Lisa. I am with you ❤️

Ok so first of all my main complaints are *drumroll* the romance. Shocker. So the overall story of this one is pretty good. I still do love The Unwanteds, and Unwanteds Quests, and I think was a pretty good ending to the series. My problems are that Lisa McMann doesn’t seem to know how to write characters without them ending up with someone. For example Alex and Sky, Aaron and Kaylee, Fifer and Dev, Thisbe and Rohan, etc. I also don’t feel like Seth and Prindi have much development in their relationship ship at all. Also I would’ve enjoyed it if this book focused on the romance aspect a bit less.
I also think that Dev being Ashguard’s grandson was a bit too predictable. It also just kind of feels like everyone has to be descended from the old rulers or something which I don’t love.
My problem with the deaths at the end battle, were that I didn’t even remember that either of those people were alive, much less feel sad about them.
I did like that there is noticeable character development in many of the characters from the beginning of the series. I didn’t expect Spike to be the one to kill the Revinir. I felt like that was a cool thing in the book.
Although no matter how much I critique these books, I still very much enjoy them. The Unwanteds were some of my favorites, and still are, and I enjoy Quests too and love hearing about the adventures of Fifer, Thisbe, Seth, and the other characters of the next generation.

What a way to go out! 14 books, a little over a year later & we have turned the final page on this series. It was a beautiful ending. I cried a plenty.
The ending I thought was so interesting because while Quests was undoubtedly Thisbe & Fifer’s series, the author chose to close w/Aaron & I loved this because Aaron is the person who grew the most across both series. From being our villain for so long, causing the deaths of those we loved, to eventually being a hero. I thought it was a real important reminder that there can be redemption if people are truly willing to put in the work to get there & Aaron had.
I will treasure these books & the countless hours I spent reading them to my son.
I am literally crying out loud!!! This was amazing!! I am completely speechless... these characters are everything!!! The thrilling final battle!!! I was blown away!! Love everything about this fantasie serie!! A masterpiece!!! All my praise and love!!! The plottwists and the ending had me screaming!!! I can't believe the series has come to en end.... i need sooo much moreeeee
It's been about four years since I started reading the Unwanteds series,, and now I can't believe that it's over. Really enjoyed the ending to this series. It was happy and sad at the same time; bittersweet.
Whoo! This book made me have feelings, haha! I found it to be among the best in the Quests series, but multiple things in this book also left me at odds. I am still sad that this series is over, and have massive respect to Lisa as a creator, despite being upset with how certain things were represented in the books.
Moving forward,
As an asexual person, I’m not going to hide how absolutely disappointed I am with Fifer/Dev being made canon. It kinda felt like a shot to the face after acearo Fifer was hinted to the audience. I understand Lisa probably wants to show that asexual-spectrum people can be in a romantic relationship, but why toss the ONLY ace-spec character into one? Why show that Fifer was touch repulsed and not interested in romance if that was ultimately going to be tossed? I’d have something different to say if there were other acearo characters shown to be perfectly happy just being single, but there isn’t, so, that’s that I guess. To me and other ace/aro fans, it seemed that Fifer was set up to be our first mainstream single, acearo character and that the demisexual identity was ONLY used to put her in a romantic relationship.
Eagala’s death was good! I’m happy that it was Spike instead of a new character. I found it to be a creative death, lol.
Seth being in an implied relationship with Prindi was not the best, it ties into how EVERY single character in this series seems to be tossed in a romance for no reason. (Really, I think the only single people now are Reza and Ibrahim?)
AFTERLIFE!!! THIS WAS GOOD!! Honestly, this made the book for me. It reminded me of the more magical aspect of the original series. I was happy to see Marcus and Alex again, and kinda wish this aspect was explored more. Also, how in the name of Peter Pan did Marcus make a door to the afterlife??? Share your secrets Marcus!
Dev has a family now, good for him. AND, I love his real name “Ari!” It is very adorable.
Eagala calling out each pair of twins (“Twins are the worst”) made me die of laughter, very good!
I am very happy that Maiven was made queen before the time-skip, she deserved that. And, Drock as well!
Marcus and Aaron at the end were perfect.
And, Thisbe/Rohan having descendants, uh that’s kinda weird to me considering they’re legally related due to Maiven adopting Rohan at the end of Dragon Ghosts...I think unrequited Thisbe/Rohan would have worked better.
I loved how Henry/Thatcher and Clementi/Asha survived the timeskip, but neither couple really had a big impact this book? And we also didn’t get one kiss from them, while every straight couple has kissed at least twice, so that’s a bit disappointing.
Aaron was wonderful as always.
Fifer removing the labeled hallways was great, but it begs the question, where did non-binary and genderfluid Unwanteds go prior to this book? The family hallway? I really didn’t take Marcus as a transphobe considering the dude wears literal rainbow robes.
AND!! The little peak at Eagala’s backstory was cool, I enjoyed hearing about little Marcus and Justine!
And that concludes my review, I am forever sad that I’ll never view a new book in this series again, but I enjoyed the ride.

Thisbe has failed to kill the Revinir and desperately seeks to regain the trust of Aaron and her friends, but time is short as she and Fifer prepare the seven islands for one final battle against their enemy, to decide the fate of the Land of the Dragons once and for all! McMann delivers an emotional, satisfying finale to a saga overflowing with creativity and heart, a sure fire success for fantasy fans young and old. Can the Stowe twins protect their ancestral home and the people of the seven islands, or will the Revinir finally reign supreme?
I think that the series was exceptionally good, but isn't even close to as good as the Unwanteds. I may be bashing the series a bit because I had higher expectations after the previous series. I feel like it was repetitive and the ending was not one of my favorites. Spike just popping out of the water and drowning the villain was not very interesting. I feel like it would have been more interesting if Fifer had just nailed the Revinir with obliterate component.
Thisbe got kidnapped three or more times. Once for her first time in the catacombs, then her second time at the catacombs, then when she ended up at Ashguard's Palace. I did enjoy it since everyone was so hellbent on finding her, but each time she gets out by herself and people end up trying to save her.
The plan to defeat the villain was a very basic, overused one, so it was good that it failed. That added a little more to the story. The fact that they were doubting Thisbe was also a very good point in the story since usually the characters get forgiven easily because they are the main, or one of the main characters.
Fifer played her role well, as the annoying sister, the leader, and the attention seeker. She was not a very interesting character though. She hardly messed up and when she did she was easily forgiven. Dev was amazing. He was a friend and an enemy in the first few book. Then he because the ally and Fifer's love interest. He gave the story a lot of depth because the other main characters didn't like him, but didn't hate him either. Rohan was just a basic love interest. He hardly did anything and for most of the relevant things he did, he had help for. He forgave Thisbe too easily when the "turned" on them. He was overall a mediocre character. Seth was just there. He was relevant in the first book then he kind of vanished into the background after that. He was a good character and deserved more ... line time? Thisbe was just a good character and a bad one at the same time. She played her role well, but her character followed a cliche path. The good gone bad gone good one. I feel like if she had stepped into that dark persona more it would have added a lot more flavor to the story. Arron was a horrible brother, and he added drama. He was just an over the top character, but in a good way. Him not believing Thisbe and being salty to her was just amazing. The sibling bond being broken or abused is something that I found very amusing. Alex. Why did Alex have to die? I know that someone had to become the new head mage, but it would have been better if he just stepped down. He was annoying, but still one of my favorite characters in the series. Stubbs felt like a side character that was just used to add to the series. The Arthime attack was just very random and it felt unnecessary. I feel like it was just a way to get everyone to Arthime. They could have done something else such as something happening on the Island of Legends or Silence.

My name is Florence, and Thisbe has finally finished explaining her support of the Revinir. We were all convinced she had sided with the Revinir, but Fifer confirms it was all part of her plan. I still think Thisbe is hiding something, since I can't understand how her Obliterate spell missed the Revinir. She never misses a spell she's perfected, so I'm not sure that I fully trust her. We're sure the Revinir is planning an all-out attack on our crumbling castle, but we'll hopefully be able to spring a surprise attack. However, the fact remains that none of our spells or weapons have been able to kill her, so how can we end her reign of terror? The answer might be found in the message saying "water" that Thisbe received from her sister.
You should read the whole series to understand the dynamics of all the characters, and there are a lot of characters. This book brings the whole series to a satisfying conclusion, as it even touches on the characters' lives many years after the final battle. The very last chapter addresses characters you might have forgotten. The story builds the suspense for a climactic confrontation with the Revinir's dragon army. In a way, it was anticlimactic, as the twins and Florence had created a detailed plan of attack. They seemed to have considered everything and didn't encounter any significant hiccups. I was expecting a more back-and-forth battle. The characters highlight the book's appeal. The twins are becoming effective leaders, but everything depends on teamwork. If you've read the previous books, you know the team consists of humans, dragons, statues, animals and other creatures. They all have their own personalities, but it's nice to see them uniting for a common cause. The author addresses an often-ignored issue with evil characters in that they're not always entirely evil. Thisbe struggles with knowing the Revinir was once a fragile young girl, so how much punishment is warranted? Overall, you'll definitely enjoy this book if you've liked the others, so give it a shot.
I am in shock right now, I just finished the last, the final, the 7th book in the Unwanteds Quests, 14th book in the Unwanteds! I don't know what to do or say.
Ok, first of all, Dragon Fury was by far the best book in the entire 14 book long series. I started The Unwanteds in March and I am just now finishing Dragon Fury about 5 months later. Can I just say, what a journey it has been.
We've lost important people, won battles, lost battles, gone through 5 head mages, and experienced many love stories.
(I feel like I'm writing a eulogy ;) )But, THAT ENDING it was a masterpiece, so beautiful I could have cried.
I think it is time to wrap up my lengthy review and just say, IT IS WORTH THE 14 BOOK LONG JOURNEY TO GET TO THIS BOOK.
So even if you are hating the series, keep going just for this book.
This was about how I expected for this mediocre series to end. There is very little to like about the main characters in the Unwanteds Quests books. Thisbe and Fifer are both overly dramatic. There is way too much ruminating/over-explaining. There are additional nods to homosexual couples in this last installment.
The only redeeming quality in this book is the very last chapter, where both the “best” people and those who had made serious mistakes end up in the same afterlife. The themes of forgiveness are strong, which is the only thing I feel McMann does well in these.
The series is done. I feel sad it’s over but I loved this book and I especially loved the way everything wrapped up. Yes there is a solid ending to this! This book was full of adventure, the final battles, cleverness on the part of Thisby and Fifer, some losses, and lots of beautiful moments. This whole series (and I’m including the Unwanteds series in as well as the Quests) are great stories for all ages, not just middle grades.
I'm so sad that the Unwanteds series is finally coming to an end. I truly love all these characters and this amazing world with all the unique islands. The final chapter had me in tears; it's the third time I've cried while reading this series. I will forever remember all the fun I had reading these books, and would highly recommend them to anyone.
This series has been a journey for sure. I read the first book 5 years ago. When this book finally came in the mail, I was beyond excited. It didn't let me down. If you've read the inside cover, you might be wondering how McMann does all of them. Well, I can definitively say that she does all of them and more amazingly, with nothing lacking.
I sobbed through the last chapter. Both from the content, and because I knew that I was just a few pages away from having to say goodbye to the amazing world of Artimé.
This book was truly wonderful, and I had to stop myself from rereading it just an hour after I finished.
Nearly all of the events of the book felt completely right. All the remaining strings were tied up, and the end, of the book and the series, was perfectly fitting.
Wow this book was another good one. I’m sad that I finished these cause I don’t want it to end and I’m not sure what to read next. I’ve grown fond with the characters and want to be in this book. Long story short. All of artime and the seven islands come to fight the Revinir in the land of the dragons and they come up with a new and final plan to destroy the Revinir. Who new dragon broth could break the curse of the dragons being under the Revinirs curse. And that Dev has a family and is the grandson of the well and alive Ashgaurd and the brother of Asha. They eventually destroy the Revinir but their are some casualties. Cooper and Gunnar Haluki have died. But every war has casualties. Maiveen Taveer and Drock the dragon unite in leadership of the land of the dragons and bring peace. The ghost dragons finally move on as well. Everything is well and peaceful. I love the ending of this book when some other characters pass on due to old age including Sean Ranger and Ito and finally Aaron. She describes that Aaron went to the final door in the secret hallway which no one can open still. Behind that door is heaven is how I took it. Everyone that has passed in the books is behind that door and greets Aaron… even Alex is there. It is just perfect and I wouldn’t change that ending for the world. Thank you Lisa for an exciting and lovely adventure:)
Positives: beautiful magical world with unique magical creatures. Loving found family. Mischievous twin girls with strong unruly magical abilities. *fifer and dev ☺️. Basically demi sexual fifer. "This is for the Alex" Lots of closure and a look into an afterlife.
Negatives: Implied that the negative events bring out the best in people. Lack of parental guidance or appropriate adult child relationships. Inappropriately heavy leadership decisions laid on children. Idiotic adults and immature child leaders. *Arron being a hypocrite
Triggers for sensitive minds
Physically violence: inhuman treatment of prisoners human and animal, cruel tyranny, slavery (work based), illness from hunger and dehydration, civil war, description of wounds, forced drinking of magical broth that causes physical changes, isolation, various forms of coercion, fighting to escape and to rescue with some lethal force used, mind control via magical animal instincts, weaponized fire, smoke inhalation, description of swallowing throwing star. Death of magical statue who is revived, death of a mother, death of a father.
Emotional pain: loss and grief of loved one, fear of death and imprisonment, abandonment, coercion, inappropriately heavy leadership decisions laid on children, fear of grey morality.

Dragon Fury is the 14th and absolute final book in the Unwanteds + Unwanteds Quests series. To summarize the plot, Thisbe returns to Artime and her friend after they believe she's betrayed them. When Fifer wakes up after fighting with the 4 red dragons she and Dev convince the group that Thisbe is telling the truth. Then, a lot of war preparations are made in order to take down the Reviner, who is holding the land of Grimere though it isn't rightfully hers. In the final confrontation, the group weakens the Reviner enough for Spike Furious to impale her to at last kill her. At the end of this book we figure out what's happened to Alex and the rest of the Artimean dead. My favorite character is Aaron who goes through arguably the most character development in this book than any other characters, including Fifer and Thisbe, who this whole series is around. He is also the one that provides the insight of what has happened to the Artimean dead. This is one o fhe best concluding books I've ever read, it explained many of my questions about the series as well as giving me an opportunity to think that there could be another future series. Right now, unfortunately that is unlikely.

This last book in this amazing series (a total of 14 books.) It does not disappoint. As the greatest army ever assembled in the seven islands flies to the land of the dragons, everyone's mind is haunted by the same thought: Thisbe Stowe betrayed them all.
Thisbe struggles to regain the trust of her brother Aaron and the people of Artimé after one crucial mistake forces her to abandon her intricate plan against the Revinir. Aaron is devastated by Thisbe's actions and refuses to hear her explanation, feeling a sense of responsibility for the wrong she's done mixed with his own deep regret and fears over his dark history. Complicating things are Thisbe's conflicted feelings about the Revinir, leaving her wondering if she allowed herself to get too close to the dragon-woman'and if she really is more evil than good after all.
Risking everything they'd fought for since first being declared Unwanted, the people, creatures, and statues of Artimé and their allies make a final desperate attempt to take down the Revinir and bring peace to their world. But is the Revinir too powerful to defeat?
And...will the Artiméans ever find out what's behind that last secret door?
Definitely the way this series should be wrapped up. McMann returns to her full writing style with this final portion of the epic quest. The characters connect and reconnect as they gather for a final showdown with the Rivinir. Tensions flare among them as Fifer and Thisbe's plan did not work to end the last book. Readers see the aftermath when this one begins. Aaron and others believe Thisbe betrayed them. This is compounded by grief over death in the last book. The three remaining siblings finally resolve the last of their issues toward the end in the midst of the final battle. Warriors gather from all of the kingdoms to fight for peace and freedom. The battle scenes pull readers in to be part of the action. In the end, they do defeat the Rivinir and free her mind controlled dragons and people. They mourn for their dead and celebrate with their living. McMann offers a well thought out epilogue to complete the storylines and wrap up the series.

My goodness, what can I even say. This book was very bittersweet. If you’ve been here from the long run the ending will be a very special moment for you. I thought it was perfect. The plot was pretty good, however there weren’t too many dramatics (I suppose that could be either a good or bad thing). The character development was also great too. I missed the old characters and wish we got a little bit more of them, but I have enjoyed reading about Fifer and Thisbe SO MUCH and watching them grow.
I just want to give a special thanks to Lisa for making this series. It was the very first book series I absolutely fell in love with when I was little. I have to admit I was a mess at the end when I finally realized that it was all over. ❤️
You should definitely read this book, especially since it’s so important to the conclusion of the Unwanteds story. I think you’ll enjoy it!!
I’m sad to say I finished this book, meaning my journey with this series is over. But what an incredible journey it was. I love every part of these books with all my heart. I knew I’d get attached to these books as soon as I finished the first book of the Unwanteds. And do not get me started on that ending! That was the most satisfying ending I’ve ever read. I actually finished this series with a sense of somewhat finality, which surprised me. It left the books feeling complete, and done. I am aware I gave each book from both the Unwanteds and the Unwanteds Quests five stars, but each was accurate. Some I wish I could’ve given more than five. I’m sad to have finished, but I can’t wait to go back, reread, and start the journey all over again. ❤️
I didn’t mean to stay up till 3am finishing this but here I am 😭 I hit a kind of slump while reading this, so it took a lot longer to get through than all the others, but omg that epilogue made me SOB. Overall, the Unwanteds Quests series wasn’t as good as the original Unwanteds series— Thisbe and Fifer were far more bratty and immature than Alex and Aaron were at their age, but they did have their great moments. However, this sequel series maintained all the lovable characters from the first series and added some incredible new ones. Rohan and Dev, and even Maiven, were amazing additions that I loved so much.
