Starting out this book, especially in Effie Trinkets point of view I was wondering how the story would go. Especially with as little as we knew about Effie from the original story. However, this book has easily made its way into being my second favorite in the series, only behind The End of The World.

From the original trilogies, we get to see Effie through the perspective of Katniss Everdeen, a young girl who is both disgusted and furious with anything and everything that comes from the capital. Therefore, we only ever get to see Effie through that skewed narrative. It doesn’t mean, for a long shot however, that she wasn’t a caring escort.

So, i feel like this story does justice to her character, and is something that can truly be perceived as canon! I throughly enjoyed the way it expanded the World of Panem. I especially enjoyed how it painted an image of the underground rebellion that was occurring and also explored the citizenship of Capitol residents.

The ending of this book was exactly what I was expecting… in the worst possible way. I knew that it would have to end with Effie becoming the person we know from the Hunger Games but seeing how she ended up that way was so absolutely crushing.

I couldn’t recommend this series enough, it’s been so captivating and so exceptional in expanding Suzanne Collins world of the Hunger Games. I will never be able to look at the series the same way ever again!

"I'll do it, you know," I say. "I'll hold Indigo over your head."
I don't know if I will or not. I probably won't. But he's given this ghost-girl as an ally, and I don't have so many that I can refuse to work with any of them.

Absolutely amazing, I never thought I would like Effie’s point of view as much as I did but it was great, she’s a great character. Also getting to read about several hunger games of previous victors like Johanna and Finnick and Annie was so cool, it’s all super well written and very detailed. Also a lot of interesting developments of the relationship between Effie and Haymitch, kind of going back and forth between close and far-away, and there’s just so much good stuff here, I’m loving this fanfic series so much.

So far, the best in the series. For the first chapter, I couldn't get my head around being in Effie's POV, but once I settled in, damn. This is the story I will go back to, even if I don't read the rest of the series. The worldbuilding is so expansive, and I always wanted the second Hunger Games book to show us mentoring. This delivers fourteen years' worth of it.

And brace yourself for the ending.
